The Spanish national soccer team shared on social media on Sunday, July 19, photos from the team’s celebration after winning the 2026 World Cup. Notably, US President Donald Trump was absent from the photo.
As expected, President Trump helped FIFA president Gianni Infantino award Spain the World Cup trophy after La Roja won the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Argentina on Sunday.
But despite Infantino’s efforts to coax him away from a stage set up in the center of the pitch, Trump remained on the podium as part of Spain’s celebrations.
As such, many expected President Trump to be featured in Spain’s jubilant moment. Instead, he was out of frame in images shared to social media.
It was not immediately clear whether President Trump was Photoshopped from the photo posted by Spain, or whether the team simply took a shot from the second half of the celebration, after Mr. Trump and Mr. Infantino finally left the stage, to post on its main account.
In any case, the Spanish national team and its fans will remain satisfied after the overwhelming victory against Lionel Messi and Argentina. La Roja defeated La Albiceleste 20-2, clinching an overtime victory with a goal from Ferran Torres in the 106th minute and a header from Nico Williams.
Spain is now the seventh country to win the World Cup multiple times, joining Brazil (5 times), Germany (4 times), Italy (4 times), Argentina (3 times), France (2 times) and Uruguay (2 times). They won this tournament in 2010, beating the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time, with Andres Iniesta scoring the winning goal in the 116th minute.
