Drivers on the roads this weekend could face taxes of more than $5 per gallon at the pump in some parts of the country as the effects of the Iran war continue to reverberate across the United States.

According to AAA, as of Friday, April 10, the national average for a regular gallon of gas is $4.15.

In places where prices are high, that number can exceed $5 per gallon. The current lowest price is around $3.50 per gallon in some states.

The Department of Labor released the latest consumer price index for March on April 10th. According to the report, gasoline prices jumped 21.2% compared to the previous month, the largest monthly increase since records began being collected in 1967.

With the Strait of Hormuz, a Middle East waterway crucial to the global oil economy, at the center of the war between the United States and Iran, the price of crude oil, and thus gas, has soared.

Economists say that although the two countries have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, it could take months for gasoline prices to return to pre-war levels.

Which state currently has the highest gas prices?

As of Friday, April 10, California has the highest average price for a gallon of regular gasoline at $5.92, according to AAA.

Other states with prices in the $5/gallon range include Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington.

Which state currently has the lowest gas prices?

Currently, the lowest prices per AAA for a gallon of regular gasoline are in the Midwest and Southern states.

Oklahoma has the lowest average price at about $3.48 per gallon. Kansas is right behind, at about $3.50 per gallon as of April 10th.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $4.15 per AAA as of April 10th.

On February 28, when the United States first launched its strikes against Iran, the national average was $2.98 per gallon.

As of April 10, the national average price for a gallon of diesel gasoline is $5.68. For comparison, this number on February 28th was $3.76.
