December’s supermoon lit up night skies around the world on Thursday, Dec. 4, making it the last full moon of 2025.

The world witnessed December’s full moon reach its peak around 6:14 PM ET.

This month’s full moon was a supermoon, appearing 30% brighter and up to 14% larger than normal, NASA said. According to NASA, supermoons occur each month when a new or full moon is closest to Earth. This phenomenon is known as “perigee.”

Although the moon peaks on December 4th, it will still look bright and beautiful on Friday, December 5th, and will appear full for several days after the peak.

December’s full moon is known as the Cold Moon, and its name comes from the Mohawk tribe.according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Also known as the Winter Maker Moon, Little Spirit Moon, and Long Night Moon.
