Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris in a September 24 appearance on Fox News in response to questions about a section of her new memoir explaining why she didn’t choose Pete Battizieg as her running companion in 2024.

In one of the more controversial parts of her candid memoir, “107 Days,” Harris writes that she didn’t choose Buttigigue, the then-secretary of Transportation, who was gay.

“We were already asking a lot of America: accepting women, black women, black women who have married Jews,” she wrote. “A part of me wanted to say, “Screw it in, just try it out.”.“But knowing what was at stake, that was too risky.”

Also, openly gay, Bescent denounced both Harris and Battigigue when asked about the decision to be a former Democratic presidential candidate.

“First, it shows her focus on identity politics and the American people have moved forward,” Bescent told Fox business host Maria Bartiromo. “It shows how lowly she holds American people.”

Bescent went on to call Harris a “bad candidate” and writes “the worst transport secretary in history.”

“She judges him about his identity, his sexuality… Let’s see if he did a good job,” Bescent said. “Let’s look at the merit. And he says he’s a failure and that merit is a failure.”

Bescent was a hedge fund manager who once served as the chief investment officer of Soros Fund Management before being nominated for the Cabinet-level position of Treasury Secretary in November 2024 by President Donald Trump in the then presidential election.

In her memoir, Harris wrote that Buttigieg was the “first choice” on her list of potential running peers in the top 8, and he said he was “well qualified in so many ways.”

This section also attracted the attention of MSNBC host and commentator Rachel Madow. Rachel Madow became the first openly gay anchor to host the Primetime News program in 2008.

Harris said he didn’t say Battigeg couldn’t be on the ticket because he was gay, pushed him back and denied any bias in making the decision.

“My point is, as I write in the book, in 107 days, it was clear that in one of the most enthusiastic elections for the US president, a black woman running for the US president, against someone like Donald Trump who doesn’t know the floor.
