WBC women’s featherweight boxer Hannah Rupp died Saturday morning when she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas, according to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.

Rapp died in an apparent road rage incident. The sheriff’s office said a car that passed her on the highway stopped, then backed up and passed her. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police identified Charles Medina, 31, as the driver of the vehicle. He was arrested and charged with manslaughter and is being held in the Brazos County Jail.

“We are heartbroken by the death of Hannah Rupp,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said in a statement. “She was an extraordinary boxer, but above all an irreplaceable member of our boxing family. We join in the overwhelming sadness of her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her illustrious career.”

Rupp was a track and field athlete at Purdue University before turning to boxing. Originally from Yorktown, Indiana, she moved to College Station, Texas and turned pro in 2024.

Rupp began her boxing career with an 8-0-1 record and challenged Tiara Brown for the WBC women’s featherweight title in June at the Caribe Royal Resort in Orlando, Florida. She lost by unanimous decision.

Brown praised Rupp on social media, calling him “the best dance partner I’ve ever had professionally.”

“My heart was filled when she asked for my autograph, because even though we were starting to prepare for war, she still wanted my autograph,” Brown wrote. “It made me smile so much. She gave a great fight for the fans from the first bell until the end! It was an honor to share the ring with her.”
