President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the nation on Thursday, July 16, in the wake of renewed tensions in Iran, an election season that could result in a shift in the balance of power in Congress, two deadly shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, and the death of ally Sen. Lindsey Graham.
When radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump to preview his speech, the president said it would be similar to recent speeches he gave on Mount Rushmore on July 3 and the National Mall on July 4 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
“It’s going to be a speech similar to many of my speeches,” Trump said. “We’re doing pretty well in that regard.”
Here’s what you need to know about President Trump’s speech and how to watch it.
What time is President Trump’s national address tonight?
The White House announced on social media on July 13 that President Trump would “address the nation” on Thursday, July 16 at 9pm ET.
Why does Trump address the nation?
The White House and President Trump did not elaborate on the reason for their address to the nation, but said they would discuss “free and fair elections” during the prime-time address, USA TODAY reported earlier.
President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on July 14 when asked if he would mention election integrity in his remarks: “I’d rather save it, but this is really big news.” “This is really, really big news and our country has to get in shape. That’s what we’re going to be talking about on Thursday. We don’t have a country without free and fair elections, so the problem can’t get any bigger.”
“We’ll be talking about other things as well, but it will be a very big announcement,” he added.
Trump’s speech comes as he continues to make baseless claims that the 2020 election he lost to former President Joe Biden was stolen, and also alleges, without evidence, that Democrats were “rigged” to win ahead of November’s election.

The speech will also be livestreamed on the White House’s website and YouTube channel.
