President Donald Trump announced on December 25 that the US military had attacked Islamic State targets in Nigeria.

In a post on Truth Social, the president said he had directed the military to launch “a strong and deadly attack against the ISIS terrorist scum in northwestern Nigeria that is targeting and brutally killing mainly innocent Christians at levels not seen in years, or even centuries.”

“I have previously warned these terrorists that they will face hell if they do not stop their slaughter of Christians, and tonight that is exactly what happened,” Trump continued, adding that the Pentagon carried out “numerous” attacks against ISIS targets in the region.

The announcement came after the US military began airstrikes on multiple ISIS targets in Syria on December 19, following the deaths of two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter.

This is a developing story.
