Former President Barack Obama condemned the shooting that led to the death of conservative and influential Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, September 10th.

“We don’t know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of sleazy violence has no place in our democracy,” Obama wrote in an X post.

Kirk, 31, was filmed during a Q&A session with students during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

President Donald Trump wrote that the character of the right wing and “not even great and legendary. Vice President JD Vance wrote after the announcement of his death, “Lord, give him an eternal break.”

Former President Joe Biden reflected Obama’s message, saying in X, “We have no place in our country for this kind of violence. We have to end now.”

Other Democrats said California Gov. Gavin Newsom felt “deeply feeling sadness and anger over the horrifying violence.”

“In democracy, ideas are tested through words and honest discussion.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris added that she was “deeply disturbed” by the shooting and that “there is no place in America for political violence.”

“This is something we should hate, what happened,” Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters before a moment of silence in the room.

“Political violence has become so common in American society that it’s not us,” Johnson added. “We must be able to resolve disagreements and conflicts in a civil way, and we must invoke political violence, and that must be stopped.”
