What you need to know about Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate’s extradition fight in the UK
Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in Miami following an extradition request from British authorities.
Newly released court documents reveal violent charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate, who have been at loggerheads over the internet, for raping, strangling and punching a woman.
The social media influencers remain detained in Florida after contesting an extradition request from the United Kingdom. In the UK, the brothers have been accused of sexual and physical abuse, including rape and sex trafficking. They have denied all charges, and their lawyers have claimed, without providing supporting details, that the arrests were politically motivated.
A federal filing released late July 20 details complaints made by three women to British authorities against both brothers. Two women who met Andrew Tate, 39, one through his webcam business and the other on a dating app, have accused him of rape and assault in incidents in the UK dating back to 2014 and 2015. Another woman accused Tristan Tate, 38, of rape and assault during a long-term relationship that began in 2012. The women claim that the brothers frequently choked them and at times nearly knocked them unconscious. I was raped.
One of the alleged victims said she met Andrew Tate on a dating app in 2014 and they had consensual sex. Later, when he visited his girlfriend’s home in Manchester, England, he pinned her down during sex. She claimed she couldn’t breathe and “feared he wouldn’t stop and was going to kill her,” according to the filing.
One woman said Andrew Tate “choke her, made her unable to breathe and she lost consciousness.” Another woman claimed that Tristan Tate strangled her until she was unconscious, then slapped her awake.
The women’s names are not listed in court documents.
U.S. Judge Lauren Lewis has set a hearing for July 27 to consider whether prominent members of the so-called manosphere, who appeared in federal court in Miami on July 20, meet extradition conditions. If so, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has the authority to halt such extradition. They are not eligible for bail.
The State Department did not respond to requests for comment on Rubio’s possible intervention.
Records show Andrew and Tristan Tate were being held at a federal detention center in downtown Miami.
While claiming to respect women, the Tate brothers promote fitness, lifestyle, and get-rich-quick advice along with a toxic mix of misogynistic and anti-feminist rhetoric. Their exhortations to get rich quick, drive fast cars, and actively treat women as property are supported by millions online.
Joseph McBride, a defense attorney representing the Tate brothers, told reporters outside the Miami courthouse that the case “feels political” and vowed to fight the extradition request.
“They’ve never done anything wrong,” McBride said. “They shouldn’t be extradited for a crime they didn’t commit.”
Mr McBride offered no further explanation, insisting that the Tates incident was closely linked to the recent resignation of former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He also insisted that his brother’s arrest so soon after meeting with “friends from Washington, D.C.” was no mere coincidence.
Andrew Tate is a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump.
The New York Times reported in December 2025 that the Tates have long cultivated friendships and influence with allies of the president, including his youngest son, Barron Trump, who communicated with Andrew Tate over Zoom. But the Trump administration called the report “fake news” and denied any connection to the Tates.
Lawsuits erupt against Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate
The Tates are the subject of numerous civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and criminal charges in the UK and Romania, which is investigating the Tates and may soon announce separate indictments.
A Los Angeles model who claims to have dated Andrew Tate for 10 months alleged in a 2025 lawsuit that he threatened and abused her during violent sexual encounters. He denies the charges.
The Tates arrived in Florida on a commercial flight in February 2025 after Romanian prosecutors lifted a travel ban. At the time, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Florida was “not a place where that type of conduct is welcome” and that the Florida attorney general was considering in which jurisdiction Florida should “address this issue.”
The new UK charges against Andrew Tate include seven new charges of rape, three charges of inducing or aiding human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 additional charges relating to indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of inducing or aiding human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The new charges were announced by the British Crown Prosecution Service on July 18, shortly before federal marshals arrested the brothers. These charges are in addition to 21 previous charges in the UK, following allegations made by four British women against Andrew Tate, a dual US-British national who lived in the UK between 2013 and 2015 and was in the early stages of setting up an adult webcam business.
Tristan Tate is not a defendant in the earlier lawsuit brought by four British women, which includes charges of rape and human trafficking, which Andrew Tate also denies. There are currently 59 charges against both brothers.
In one of the early cases against Andrew Tate, made public in British court documents in April 2025, two women accused him of strangling themselves too often and with too much force, leaving red spots in their eyes indicating capillary bleeding. One of the women, who said she was strangled, also accused him of rape, including being whipped with a belt and having a gun pointed at her face.
“I’m just thinking about whether or not I’m going to rape you,” Andrew Tate told one of the women in the earlier suit, according to court filings. Tate asked as he put his hand around his neck. He then raped her, the filing states. Tate has denied that incident and all other charges, according to court filings.
British prosecutors say they have witness statements, electronic messages and photographs to back up the allegations against the Tates.
In a 2019 YouTube video cited in early filings as evidence of Andrew Tate’s conduct with women, he told viewers, “Strangle her, barely able to breathe. Tell her she’s yours forever. They’ll believe it. You can program them.”
