A relatively wide range of salaries in Miami meet middle-class income standards, according to a recent report.
The study, released earlier this year by SmartAsset, ranks all 50 U.S. states and 100 largest cities by middle income range. The report reviewed 2024 U.S. Census Bureau data on median household income and applied “a variation of Pew Research’s middle-income household definition, which defines the middle-class salary range as two-thirds to twice the U.S. median salary” to arrive at that number.
According to the study, the “upper end” of middle-class income in Miami is $132,674 and the “lower end” is $44,225. Median household income is $66,337, the report added.
According to the 2026 income limits established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the median household income in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall HUD Metro Fair Market rental area is $89,800.
When ranked by the “upper end” of the middle class, Florida ranked 26th overall. The upper end of the state’s middle-class income range was $155,470, and the “lower end” was $51,823. Median household income was $77,735. In contrast, the state with the highest middle-class income limit was Massachusetts, at $209,656. The state’s minimum income was $69,885, and the median household income was $104,828.
