In today’s forecast feed, Accuweather’s Bernie Rayno breaks down the final 25% of the 2025 hurricane season.
After Hurricanes Humbel and Imelda dissipate in the Atlantic, forecasters are looking at the tropical tropics due to signs of a storm that could affect the United States, but things are relatively quiet at this point.
Although only two months into the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, moderate cyclone formations are still far apart, the low pressure region of the US Gulf, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, is unlikely to form towards the Texas coast, the National Hurricane Center said on April 4.
Another area that could develop near Florida’s coast took off the predictor’s watchlist on the afternoon of October 4th, but Accuweather’s lead hurricane expert Alex Dasilva said there are still heavy rains expected over the southeastern weekend.

Things to brew in the Atlantic Ocean
Low pressure weak areas form in the central Gulf Coast, creating chaotic showers and thunderstorms off the coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The system is expected to move slowly northwest the following day or two days, reaching the Texas coast by Monday. The development of this system is not expected due to strong top winds.
Tropical waves between Africa’s west coast and the Cabo Verde Islands produce a wide area of confused showers and thunderstorms. The progressive development of the waves will be possible over the next few days, with the possibility of tropical depression by the middle to the second half of next week.
If that tropical wave lasts, it could begin to slowly begin to organize east of the Caribbean islands, and later approach a potential island called the Storm, Accuweather forecaster said.
Home stretching during hurricane season
This is the first year in 10 years that the US has not been hit directly by a hurricane by a hurricane by the end of September, Accuweather reported.
“So far, the season has run a little down in the case of named storms and hurricanes, but not usually in major hurricanes,” Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Krozbach told USA Today.
Still, experts say it’s wise to stay vigilant for future activities in the Atlantic. Seven storms formed last year during the final two months of the season, including four hurricanes.
Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1st and continues until the end of November. Aggressive hurricane weather usually peaks between mid-August and mid-October.
