Some Indiana Lottery players are upset that they thought they won big money because of their scratch-off tickets, only to find out the actual prize was much smaller.

The Hoosier Lottery has since suspended sales of its new $5 Space Invaders Cash Invasion scratch-off game after reports surfaced that some players were told they had won significantly different amounts than what was listed on their tickets, the lottery confirmed to USA TODAY.

Hoosier Lottery spokesman Jared Bond said in a statement that the lottery “has become aware of a technical issue” with the recently launched scratch-off on June 2.

“We have suspended ticket sales to ensure the integrity of the gaming experience we strive to provide our players,” Bond said in a statement.

Man thought he won $100,000, but the scanner showed $20

One of those players, Indiana resident Mike Fields, told FOX59 he believes he won a $100,000 prize after purchasing four new scratch-off tickets. Fields and his wife were stunned when the scanner later showed the ticket was worth just $20, according to a Facebook post by FOX59 anchor Angela Ganote.

Ganote reported that Fields visited the Hoosier Lottery office in downtown Indianapolis, where he met other players who said they were facing similar problems involving thousands of dollars in winnings. Ganote’s post said lottery officials told players the matter was being investigated and they would be contacted by mail within four to six weeks.

What players need to know

The Hoosier Lottery added a disclaimer to the game’s webpage advising players who wish to complain or appeal their tickets to fill out a formal claim form or contact a lottery representative directly.

Players experiencing issues with the Space Invaders Cache Invasion scratch-off are directed to call 1-800-955-6886 or email Info@HoosierLottery.com. The lottery states that the $5 Space Invaders Fast Play game and associated second chance promotion remain available.
