California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office announced that after he was invited to speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 21, he was denied entry to the venue due to “pressure” from the Trump administration.

Mr. Newsom was scheduled to speak with Mr. Fortune at Davos USA House, a private event hosted by the World Economic Forum, which is recognized by the U.S. government as the national headquarters in Davos.

According to Politico, Newsom was scheduled to speak at an event on January 22, the day after President Trump’s speech, but the event was later removed from the schedule. However, messages obtained by Politico allege that U.S. House leadership was under pressure from the U.S. State Department.

When asked why Newsom was not allowed to attend the event, his office told the Los Angeles Times it was a “venue decision” not to include “elected U.S. officials” in the event’s program.

The White House has not issued a statement regarding Newsom’s post.
