England star Harry Kane has admitted he played golf with US President Donald Trump “about 18 months ago”.
President Trump said he played golf with Kaine earlier this week.
President Trump said, “I think Cain is a great player.” “I played golf with him and I really like him. He’s a good golfer.”
At a press conference in Miami on Friday, July 10, ahead of the World Cup quarter-finals between England and Norway, Mr. Cain admitted that he had played golf with Mr. Trump – likely at Trump’s International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Honestly, I played okay,” Kane said. “We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was in Palm Beach. So when the president invites you somewhere… it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and play golf with him.”
“Honestly, he plays pretty good golf. I wish I could play golf as well as he does when I’m his age, that’s for sure. So (it was) a unique experience and I’m just grateful that he invited me to play.”
Kane has scored six goals at the World Cup so far, leading England to a quarter-final showdown with Norway at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
This isn’t the first time President Trump has been in the news this week for a World Cup-related topic.
President Trump has contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino in an effort to overturn the one-match suspension of U.S. men’s national team striker Folarin Balogun for his red card.
Although Infantino insisted that President Trump’s summons had no influence on FIFA’s decision, Balogun’s suspension was eventually changed to a suspended sentence, making him eligible to play against Belgium in the Round of 16.
Despite Balogun being in the lineup, the United States lost 4-1 on Monday, July 6 and was eliminated from the tournament.
