Happy new year! Welcome back to this year’s edition of The Daily Money newsletter!This is Betty Lynn Fisher for the Friday Consumer Edition.

Whether you’re filing in 2025 or planning for the next tax year, it’s never too early to start talking about taxes.

We have both a primer on income taxes and tax season and a story outlining when the IRS starts accepting returns. For some people, their 2026 tax refund could be much larger than expected due to major tax changes.

Some tariffs are delayed

President Donald Trump is delaying increased tariffs on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets and vanities amid growing concerns about affordability.

Is Australia on your once-in-a-lifetime travel list?

I look out the window of my home office in Ohio at a snow-covered garden and forest. The weather is 23 degrees. The weather is great, but according to the weather app it’s 13 degrees. So I’ve been daydreaming about some travel destinations. Travel writer Zach Wictor recently visited Sydney, Australia and shares his experience. By the way, according to the weather app, today’s temperature is 65 degrees. I don’t care about that!
