New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson took to social media to slam Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton’s “undignified” comments.

Payton told reporters after the Broncos’ 33-32 come-from-behind victory over the Giants that he expected Wilson to be a permanent starter against Jackson-Dart until the team plays the Broncos.

“They found a little bit of a spark with that quarterback,” Payton said, referring to Dart. “I was talking to (Giants owner) John Mara a little while ago and I said I’m hopeful that changes will happen long after the game is over.”

Naturally, Wilson took Peyton’s comments as a disdain. Because of this, the 36-year-old quarterback fired back at his former coach, referencing Payton’s involvement in the New Orleans Saints’ infamous “Bountygate” scandal.

“Classless…but not surprised,” Wilson wrote on social media. “I had no idea that more than 15 years later, he was still a bounty hunter through the media.”

Wilson and Payton worked together for one season in Denver in 2023. Wilson started 15 games for the team, completing 66.4 percent of his passes for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, leading the Broncos to a 7-8 record.

However, Payton was not happy with the direction of Denver’s offense and opted to bench Wilson for the final two games of the 2023 season. This also came at a time when the Broncos were looking for a way to part ways with their veteran quarterback while trying to avoid triggering contractual injury guarantees, further complicating the rift between the two.

Clearly, even after nearly two years of partnership, tensions remain between the two men.
