General Mills recalls Pillsbury rolls due to possible glass risk

Date:

General Mills has recalled more than 730,000 Pillsbury rolls sold to Walmart because they may contain glass shards.

The voluntary recall, posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s website on July 13, reports that General Mills began recalling 3,800 cases of Pillsbury Bread Rolls Hard Roll Dough and 1,260 cases of Pillsbury Bread Rolls Kaiser Roll Dough on June 19. The rolls may contain “potential foreign material (glass),” the notice said.

The dough was sold to Walmart, which makes rolls for sale in its bakeries, and was recalled from the 19 states where it was distributed. General Mills said the baked rolls have been removed from bakery shelves.

“Out of an abundance of caution, in mid-June, we voluntarily recalled two frozen dough products that were baked on-site and sold only in Walmart in-store bakeries in the U.S.,” General Mills said in a statement to media outlets including Fox Business News. “This voluntary recall is limited in scope and highly contained, and all potentially affected products have been removed.”

General Mills did not immediately respond to a request for comment from USA TODAY.

The FDA classified General Mills Pillsbury’s voluntary recall as a Class II recall. This means that ingestion of the product is “likely to cause temporary or medically reversible health harm” or is “unlikely to cause serious health harm”.

Here’s what I was reminded of:

  • Pillsbury Bread Roll Hard Roll Dough 3,080 cases, 180 units each, or 554,000 rolls (best used by October 12, 2026, recall number H-1154-2026).
  • Pillsbury Bread Rolls, 1,260 cases of Kaiser Roll Dough, 114 pieces each – or 181,440 rolls (best used by October 12, 2026; H-1155-2026).
