Sen. Bob Menendez began sentenced to 11 years in a federal prison in Pennsylvania on June 17th for bribery.

The 71-year-old was convicted of 16 counts in July 2024, including coercion, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and acting as a foreign agent. The prison inmate search shows Menendez’s prisoner number 67277-050, but he is not yet in custody.

The former senior New Jersey senator and the chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee have been found guilty of joining a bribery scheme that was rewarded with hundreds of thousands of dollars of gold and a pile of cash.

In exchange, the senator took action, including affecting businessmen in New Jersey and criminal investigations that benefited the governments of Egypt and Qatar.

His co-defendants, businessmen Wael Hana and Fred Dave, were also found guilty of all counts.

He is the first US Senator to be convicted of acting as a representative of a foreign government. Menendez represented New Jersey in the US Senate for over 18 years. He resigned after his conviction.

Nadine Menendez was found guilty in another trial. Her case was isolated for cancer diagnosis. Her sentence is scheduled for September.
