The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified the Horizon Organic Milk Box recall as Class II due to packaging issues, with more than 63,000 cartons affected in four states.
Recall of 6 packs of 8 liquids. The Ounce Room Temperature Stable 1% Low Fat DHA Omega-3 Chocolate Milk Box was first announced on March 11th. Horizon said in a news release at the time that the recall was due to a “package seal issue” that could cause the box to swell, leak, or spoil the milk.
“We have taken corrective and preventive actions to prevent it from happening again,” Horizon said in a release.
The FDA describes a Class II recall as a situation in which “use or exposure to a violative product is likely to cause a temporary or medically reversible adverse health effect,” or a situation in which “the likelihood of a serious adverse health effect is low.”
According to the agency, Horizon Organic Dairy, LLC has initiated a recall, affecting approximately 63,396 cartons.
