WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security has conducted its first voluntary charter flight for 64 undocumented immigrants who have “chosen to self-report to their country,” according to a press release.

The flight departs from Houston and dropped 38 immigrants from Honduras and 26 immigrants from Colombia, the department said. All immigrants were given a $1,000 scholarship.

The move comes after the Trump administration deployed the CBP Home app in March. This allows immigrants to report their self-motivation intentions as they are illegally staying in the United States. The administration reused one CBP app from the former Biden administration, allowing immigrants to schedule an asylum hearing.

“Today, DHS has conducted its first project Homecoming Charter Flight of 64 individuals who have voluntarily chosen to self-abolize their home counties in Honduras and Colombia,” Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said in a statement.

“If you are here illegally, you will be using the CBP Home App to control your departure and receive financial support to return home.

The press release noted that migrants who landed in Honduras also received support from the government, including food vouchers.
