After the semi-truck crashed, search and rescue operations were ongoing and said they jumped into the river from Delaware’s Memorial Bridge on early July 11.

At about 3:40am local time on Friday, a bobtail tractor crossing the bridge passed three lanes and hit a concrete wall, the Delaware River & Bay Bureau said in a press release.

The impact collapsed the wall and the truck “reached the Delaware River,” Drba said.

Just after 11am, the crew retrieved a taxi in about 20 feet of water.

“The diving crew is currently assessing the safety of the area where cabs are located for further investigation by taxi,” Salmon wrote in a statement.

It is unclear how many residents were in the truck at the time of the collision. After the taxi was retrieved, there were no additional details regarding the residents, Salmon said. Other vehicles were not affected.

What happened during the Delaware Memorial Bridge crash?

The DRBA said the truck was moving south to Delaware when the accident occurred on the downhill road of the bridge.

According to DRBA, the dive team was on the scene to make a search effort. They included units from local and state emergency responders and members of the U.S. Coast Guard air and marine units, according to the agency.

According to the DRBA, the accident is under investigation.

Over 10,000 feet, the Delaware Memorial Bridge crosses the Delaware River and connects Delaware to the state of New Jersey. According to the DRBA, more than 100,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day.

Traffic lanes were temporarily closed after the Delaware Memorial Bridge crashed

Some traffic lanes at the Delaware Memorial Bridge are expected to be temporarily closed during morning commutes, causing “severe delays,” the DRBA said.

The left lane where the accident occurred was closed “due to police activities,” but by 8:30am local time, traffic delays had been cleared, the DRBA said.

The right lane was also temporarily closed for construction, but reopened around 8am local time.

Live traffic cam from DRBA showed no significant traffic as of 9am
