David Beckham has given a cryptic response to his son Brooklyn Peltz Beckham’s lengthy social media diatribe against his family.

During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Jan. 20, Beckham, 50, said social media can be a breeding ground for people to make “mistakes.”

“I’ve always talked about social media and the power of social media, both good and bad,” said the famous soccer player. “The bad thing we’ve been talking about about what kids have access to these days is that it can be dangerous.”

“What I’ve personally discovered, especially when it comes to my children, is that you need to use it for the right reasons,” he continued. “I was able to leverage my platform and my following for UNICEF, and it was the biggest tool to let people know what was going on for children around the world.”

Beckham then raised their children. He and his wife Victoria Beckham have three children: Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.

“I’ve tried to educate my kids to do the same thing,” Beckham added. “They make mistakes, but kids are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how kids learn. That’s what I try to teach kids. Sometimes you have to let kids make mistakes.”

Beckham’s comments follow an extensive statement posted on social media by his eldest son Brooklyn over the weekend. Brooklyn Beckham has broken his silence after years of rumors about a rift between him and his parents, writing on Instagram: “I don’t want to reconcile with my family.”

A series of articles posted on January 19 went on to say that he has been “quiet for many years and has made every effort to keep these matters secret”, alluding to speculation that he is estranged from his family because of his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham.

“My parents have been endlessly trying to destroy our relationship since before my wedding, and they just haven’t stopped,” she continued, claiming her fashion designer mother quit making Nicola’s wedding dress at the “eleventh hour”. He also said that she danced inappropriately and ruined their first dance at their wedding.

Brooklyn Beckham continued, “No matter how hard we try to be together, my wife has consistently been treated with contempt by her family.” “My mother has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”

Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham married in 2022 and renewed their vows in August 2025. Brooklyn’s parents attended the wedding, but not the vow renewal.
