Comedian Laura Crery crushed by 600 pound refrigerator at home

Date:

Comedian Laura Crery has revealed how she nearly died when a 600-pound refrigerator fell on her while she was at home with her two young children.

Clery, a comedian and actor who has appeared on shows such as “Two Broke Girls,” posted on Instagram on May 21 that she had “the scariest night of my life as a single mom” after a refrigerator “slammed into me and pushed me against the counter.”

In a video clip, Clery filmed herself being carried away on a stretcher. Another video showed her getting into an ambulance after the accident and asking firefighters to see what happened.

She shared the details on her Patreon page. Ms Clery said it was her “worst nightmare” to be seriously injured when she was the only adult with children in the house, explaining that she had a “huge French door fridge” that was “supposed to be mounted on the wall” and that she saw it start moving after her son climbed into it. When he tried to put the refrigerator back in its original position, the refrigerator fell on top of him.

“It wasn’t in a way that I could catch it or jump it out of the way,” she wrote. “It just fell down. Its full weight slammed me backwards into the kitchen island, pinning me by the waist. I couldn’t move. I tried to push it off, but it didn’t budge at all. It felt like I was pushing against a building.”

Ms Clery said she immediately felt “harder to breathe” and recalled being trapped and thinking “this is the stupidest way to die that has ever happened”. But she said she managed to get her cell phone out of her pocket and called 911, and it took three firefighters to finally pull the refrigerator apart.

Mr Clery said when he arrived at the hospital, doctors were shocked to find there were no broken bones.

“I’m home now, bruised and sore, it hurts to walk, and I feel like I was hit by a truck living in the kitchen. But I’m okay. The kids are okay, too. And I can’t help but think about how differently this could have gone,” she wrote. “If my phone wasn’t in my pocket, I don’t know what would have happened.”

Clery thanked the firefighters for “saving my life” on Instagram, saying they “treated everything like absolute heroes” and said she was “eternally grateful to them.”

However, in a Facebook post, she said she would like to sue the contractor who installed the refrigerator because it was “not properly attached” to the wall. “I almost died,” she posted. “And it definitely could have killed my child. That could never have happened. This was negligence.”

Clery has appeared in episodes of shows such as “Till Death,” “The League,” and “2 Broke Girls,” as well as the film “The Longest Week,” starring Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde.

She is also the host of the podcast “IDIOT” and the author of three books, including the upcoming “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Makes You Hotter.” According to Simon & Schuster, her latest work is a collection of essays about “finding the funny even when your life is falling apart.”
