NBA Finals, Knicks’ Game 4 comeback is shattered
Lorenzo Reyes talks about how the Knicks turned a bad game around and handed the Spurs a victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Charles Barkley doubled down on his criticism of the San Antonio Spurs after they blew a 29-point lead against the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, but he made it clear who he was talking about.
Barkley called the Spurs “the stupidest basketball team in the history of civilization” during a postgame on Inside the NBA after the Knicks won 107-106, giving New York a 3-1 series lead.
“That was the most mismanaged, stupidest basketball game,” Barkley said. “When you blow a 29-point lead, the other team has to help you out. The San Antonio Spurs helped the New York Knicks win this game by doing some of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen on a basketball court.”
On the pregame show before Game 5, Barkley said he received calls from several NBA coaches, then made it clear who he was angry at.
Relive the Knicks’ glorious NBA title with a new book
“When I said the other day, ‘That was some really crappy basketball,’ I was talking about the players,” Barkley said. “I want to make it clear that I’m not talking about coach (Mitch Johnson).”
Johnson and his players were criticized for their response in the second half, particularly for poor shot selection and lack of awareness late in the game.
