What does May 26 mean? What’s closed

play

Falling Day – The day known as the English anniversary not only points to the informal beginnings of the US summer, but also represents a moment of national pause to honor members of the military who served.

This federal holiday means that many offices and services, including Banks, US Postal Service (USPS), FedEx and UPS, will reschedule or suspend operations during this day. Here we will explain which services are open and which services are not May 26th.

Why is the falling day celebrated in 2025?

This day will always be commemorated on the last Monday of May, which will be held on May 26th. The origins of the day date back to the American Civil War, originally established as a decorative day to honor the soldiers who adorn the tombs.

Now it’s a day that not only honors those who fell in battle, but also invites them to look back at the sacrifices of thousands of military families across the country.

Does the Postal Service (USPS) run the day you collapse?

no. The USPS Post Office was closed on May 26th and there will be no regular mail delivery. This includes text, packaging and standard shipping.

The only exception is the preferred Mail Express service that works for 365 days a year, including federal holidays. This means that if you need to send something urgent, this service will remain available for a higher price.

Will the bank open on May 26th?

It’s not either. Because it is a federal holiday, the country’s major banking institutions, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank and Wells Fargo, will close physical branches at daytime monuments.

Other banks such as Capital One, PNC, TD Bank and Truist could also suspend face-to-face operations. However, ATMs (ATMs), mobile applications, and online platforms continue to function properly, allowing you to create basic transactions without any issues.

Will UPS be streamed on Memorial Day?

No. On May 26th, UPS will suspend regular distribution and collection services. Additionally, many UPS stores will close or work in a short time depending on the location.

The only active service is UPS Express critical, a premium option available 365 days a year for emergency shipping. To request, go to mnx.com or call customer service number 1-800-714-8779.

Will FedEx be run on the day it collapses?

It’s not the whole thing. Most of its collection and delivery services will be suspended on Monday, May 26th, according to the company. This includes delivery of FedEx Ground, FedEx Express and FedEx homes.

Additionally, the FedEx Office Store can operate on a modified schedule or be closed completely, depending on the town. It is recommended to check directly at the nearest branch.

As with UPS, the only active service is FedEx Custom Critical, designed for emergency delivery with ongoing national compensation.

Are supermarkets open on the day they collapse?

Mainly, yes. Unlike banks and mail, the majority of groceries and supermarkets will continue to operate during the collapsed day, but some people can change their featured schedules.

This means you can buy roasted meat, family reunions, or picnics without any major inconvenience. Next, we will explain in detail the status of the main supermarket chain.

Which stores will be open or closed on May 26th?

  • Walmart: Opens the regular regular. This is usually from 6am to 11pm
  • Costco: Daytime monuments have been completely closed.
  • Sam’s Club: It’s open, but the time is short. Plus members are from 8am to 6pm, and standard members are from 10am to 6pm.
  • Kroger and affiliate marketing: Open. Check your local specific schedule.
    • Includes: Baker, City Market, Dillon, Food 4 Wrestle, Food CO, Fred Meyer, Fry, Jeybes, Jay C, Kingsawpers, Mariano, Metro Market, Ralph, Smith, Entreotras.

Casson funeral reopens at Arlington Cemetery

0

From rubber mats to nearby areas, Army horse equipment has been improved.

Arlington National Cemetery – At 6:30am, fertilizer shovel rubs and horse hoof shuffles echoed through the red brick stables in Fort. Meyer. Soldiers in caisson detachments in blue jeans, black shirts and white cowboy hats crushed the food stall. Kennedy, Lance and Truman – a statuesque, dark horse – thrust his head between the steel bars.

The unit is on the last day of practice, preparing for the return on June 2nd, carrying the army dead to the grave by a horse-drawn caisson wagon.th century. USA Today has access to soldiers, facilities and horses from Caison Detachment, part of the Army 3rd The infantry regiment, known as the “old security guards,” is one of the final rehearsals.

“It’s been two years since I attended the funeral,” said Lt. Col. Jason Crawford, a veterinarian and former rodeo rider who directs the unit. “We’re regaining those muscle memories.”

For decades, soldiers have been offering caissons and funerals in cemeteries. The wagon once carried supplies to the front and brought downed troops home. It stopped in May 2023 after two horses, Mickey and Tony, died after eating gravel. Army investigations found that four horses died in a year, the army flocks aged, and training and facilities were outdated.

Since then, the Army has spent more than $28 million on stable upgrades, horse rehabilitation, buying new young people, and hiring professionals to advise on care and training. From rubber mats to hooves to custom-made saddles, their equipment has been improved, from rubber mats to custom-made saddles for their backs.

Caisson Detachment passed its first major test in January, transporting former President Jimmy Carter’s cas to the White House during state funerals. Over the next few months, soldiers adapted their horses to vehicles and people visiting the winding hills of Arlington National Cemetery, as well as the country’s finest military burial sites.

Army officials believe that two soldiers and horses are trained so that two caisson funerals can be held in a day. That number increases as more soldiers and horses are trained.

It wasn’t all smooth. Earlier this spring, something scared the horse, bolting about 100 yards before a few people could control it. Army spokesman Major Wes Strickland said the soldier’s legs had broken and one horse needed rest to recover from the chaos.

And, in the opinion of an influential senator, the Army should have suspended its old traditions. Sen. Tom Cotton, a veteran old security guard who helped hold the Army funeral as a young officer, said in an interview that while improving the caisson program was appropriate, the funeral tradition was “sad and frustrating” that it was interrupted for two years.

“The Caisson Platoon has been running for decades without closing, and frankly, the horses have been pulling wagons since the dawn of history,” Cotton said. “This is not a complicated task.”

He said the Army should take good care of the horses and accept that some people will be injured or killed.

“We must be realistic for the horse to die and the horse to be injured,” Cotton said. “That’s the nature of the work they do. Like the elite horses on the racecourse, we want to look after these horses. And I can promise that no one will train with them and care better about these horses than the young jockey soldiers who have lived with them for years.”

Soldiers in the squad appear enthusiastic about caring for horses. They squeeze poop from the stall into a wheelbarrow, wipe out the final wooden chips from the aisle, and place fresh bedding. The soft and soothing words of horses and horses and pat are soft and soothing.

Sergeant. Natalie Silva, 23, went through a morning ritual. Stalls were cleaned, bowls of water were buried, hay was raised, and horses were inspected for bumps and cuts. She grew up in Gillette, grew up around Wyoming horses, and enjoys spending time with them.

Lance is her favorite. “I and he have a connection,” she said. She scratched Lance’s neck and once found a mite.

Along the way, Truman was spreading out of the wood shavings from his bed.

“I know he’ll work for a few hours. You have to be patient with him. He can get mad in the morning,” Private 1 said.st Class Joshua Allen, 19, from Houston. “We’ll get him ready for the mission right away.”

Soldiers like Allen and Silva apply for caisson separation. About half of the candidates will interview, throw a hay bale and make a cut after calming down with the horse. After that, the training will begin. A 12-week basic equestrian course is followed by a six-week boot camp at the Equestrian Sports Facility in Ocala, Florida.

The horse experience is great, but not necessary, Sgt. said. 1st Crust lever carlin. Approximately two-thirds of the soldiers in the unit, including Allen, did not grow around them. He asks questions and searches for soldiers he wants to learn. Core strength is also important. Carin said because the soldiers need to guide the horse while maintaining an upright position.

“We need very independent, super fit soldiers,” he said.

Soldiers like Staff Sergeant. Isaac Melton. He led the rehearsals and advanced ahead of what is called a section hose. It was a 5-year-old Truman, who finally saw him relax at his food stall. Now Truman was tall and had a heart of gold on his chest.

All business.

“Truman and I have similar personalities,” said Melton, 34, of Mackenzie, Louisiana.

Joint base Meyer Henderson Hall is adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. Melton took Truman and the Caisson team through the gate into the shade of oak trees that lined up above a row of white marble gravestones. Tow a caisson along with six horses and three riders.

At a moderate pace of walking, the horse clipped up the hill past the Arlington home.th Century Home was erected as a memorial to George Washington and later inherited by Robert E. Lee. Tourists took photos and horses were pushed against them.

Melton stopped the queue with a shady stretch, a rest area designated by a green metal hitching post for horses. The unit is ready to hold a funeral, he said.

“100%,” Melton said. “We’ve been trained for a long time, and we don’t turn the stones over. Every day, the horses get a little more calm. They’re in their own vibe.”

In the stable after a practice run, soldiers washed their horses under fans hanging from the roof of their gables. They cleaned and stowed the equipment, and Kennedy bites at Freshhay.

Cotton, who oversaw the funeral as an officer, said the Caisson ceremony had special significance for fallen relatives. The first funeral with Caisson is limited to troops, Medal of Honor, or POW Medals, and high-ranking service members who were killed during the action.

The approximately 25 service members who the family had been waiting for during the two-year suspension are also taken to the grave by Caissons.

“That’s something I think those family moments will become even more moments,” Cotton said.

USA Men’s Hockey team wins the IIHF World Championship for the first time in over 90 years

0

CNN

For the first time since 1933, the US Men’s Hockey Team won the IIHF World Championship Tournament.

Team USA beat Switzerland 1-0 in Sunday overtime at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, in order to win the gold medal.

The Americans were playing in the IIHF Gold Medal Game for the first time in over 90 years, but were trapped in a defensive struggle against a stubborn Swiss team. Despite having a great advantage in goal shots, the US failed to pass Swiss goaltender Leonardo Genoni through a 60-minute regulated play.

However, just two minutes after the overtime, the Buffalo Sabres robbed Lister by passing Genoni for the winner of a sudden death. The goal was supported by Utah Mammoth Logan Cooley and Nashville Predators Brady Skaray.

Boston Bruins American goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman stopped all 25 shots he faced to keep the Swiss team out.

Thompson flocked to his jubilant teammates after winning the game’s winner, so many of the Swiss players could be seen hanging their heads in disappointment following a heartbreaking loss.

However, Switzerland was elegant in defeat as they shook hands with the Americans before the medal ceremony.

After receiving the gold medal, the US national anthem was played as the American flag raised in the Avicii Arena. The stars and stripes straddled the Swiss flag and the Swedish flag.

During the trophy presentation, Team USA embraced the hardware while embracing Johnny Gaudlow’s 13th jersey, who tragically passed away along with his brother Matthew last year after the pair was fatally hit by a suspected drunk driver while riding a bike on a new jersey road.

The importance of ending the nine-year IIHF World Championship drought was not lost to American athletes.

“It’s a great feeling. I mean, it took a very long time for the US. It was a great feeling to put this jersey back on, and it was a long time for me. I’ve now been able to win gold medals. “And in overtime there’s no better way to win the game.”

“Obviously we know how long it’s been,” American forward Drew O’Connor told Reuters. “And as you know, we are looking forward to finally trying to get it done. I’m really looking forward to doing it with this group.”

The victory may represent a good thing that will come to Team USA ahead of next year’s Winter Olympics at Italy’s Milan and Cortina Da Pezzo, where NHL players will be in the game for the first time since 2014.

álex Palou won the Indianapolis 500, and Kyle Larson’s quest for “double” ended after the wreck

0

CNN

“Racing’s biggest sight” certainly came to that name after Alex Pallow won the checkered flag on Sunday to win his 109th run of the Indianapolis 500.

The 28-year-old overtook Marcus Erickson and entered turn 1 with 187 laps of 200, securing the Indy 500 victory of his first career, making history at the same time.

The Barcelona native became the first Spaniard to win a valuable race, adding yet another trophy to his impressive resume.

After the checkered flag, Palou pulled up past the brick garden, climbed from ten yellow and red cars, waving fists at the cheering crowd, gloves from his hands, then made a long sprint to celebrate with his team and his father.

The celebration of winning the Indy 500 was not complete for Parow, without drinking from a milk bottle before kissing the bricks.

Palou celebrates the fifth victory of the 2025 IndyCar season.

Palou said his racing career would not be perfect with an Indy 500 victory.

“I can’t believe it. What a great day, what a great race,” Pallow told Fox’s broadcast. “…it’s amazing. It’s amazing to be here. It’s amazing to win. There were some really good moments in the race, but I wasn’t sure if I could pass Marcus (Ericson) in the end.

Paloo later added that he didn’t know what victory meant for Spain, but he hoped they were celebrating.

“Hopefully they’re celebrating as much as I’m here,” Palou told reporters. “It’s special to be the first Spanish driver to win it, but honestly, if I were the 50th Spanish driver to win it, I would be as happy as I am now and as proud as now.

“But I hope it will gain more fans, more people. There were a lot of Spanish flags here today. This was a parade lap we had before the race started, where we were greeting the fans. We could see the crowd. There were lots of Spanish flags.”

Chip Ganassi racing driver, who won three IndyCar titles in four years, has raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with four wins in the first five races of the season, and is now fifth in his place.

Chip Ganassi Racing secured its sixth Indy 500 victory and its first since 2022.

It was sixth in the Indy 500 wins in the Ganassi race, and team owner Chip Ganassi called his driver “unbelievable.”

“I don’t know what else to say,” Ganassi said. “It’s incredible. It was going to make Alex Pallow’s career and make his life, and it certainly became mine.”

It was a heartbreak for Ericsson, the 2022 Indy 500 winner, who finished second in Andretti Global. The Swedish driver expressed disappointment by placing his hand on his face after failing to earn his second career victory in the race.

Erickson didn’t write the words, but called him finishing the second runner in his career, “painful.”

“I covered the race,” Erickson said. “I need to look again, it plays in my head millions of times after the finish and wonders what’s different.

David Malukas was third in AJ Foyt Racing.

America’s Josef New Garden was about to win the Indy 500 for the third consecutive time, but his race ended early after a fuel pump issue.

His team Pensuke teammates finished 19th in a disastrous week for a team that scored a 20-time record in the Indy 500. Both Newgarden and Powers began at the back of the field after failing inspections before qualifying.

Earlier in the week, team owner Roger Pensuke fired three of his team IndyCar executives. In the case of a second technical violation in just one year.

Kyle Larson could not be completed

For the second year in a row, NASCAR star Kyle Larson’s quest to complete the famous “double” finishing both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina, ended an unfortunate end on the same day.

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion crashed on lap 91 after his car spun into the infield, crashing on turn 2 soon after the reboot, eventually finishing in 27th place.

Drivers Sting Ray Robb and Kyffin Simpson also participated in the crash.

“It’s a little crazy on reboot,” Larson said. “I started to get tight behind Takuma (Sato). I was really close… I came all over the place, relaxed, and yeah, it spun.

“Try to get through this quickly and go to Charlotte. Forget that and try to beat the next one.”

This was the second consecutive attempt by Larson to become the second driver to achieve it, first being 2001 Tony Stewart.

Last year, weather in Indiana and North Carolina prevented him from completing the unusual 1,100-mile feat.

In 1994, John Andretti became the first driver to complete the Indy 500 Coca-Cola 600 Double at Stewart, and Robbie Gordon and Kurt Bush attempted that later.

The “double” is considered one of the toughest challenges in motorsports due to the mental and physical sacrifice of driving 1,100 miles per day and navigating the differences between open wheels and stock cars and the fatigued travel schedule.

For Larson, despite having enough time to spend, it didn’t make it easy for him.

Larson crashed on lap 246 and was unable to finish the race.

When asked if he was going to try a “double” for the third year in a row, Larson wasn’t sure.

“Doubles are tough jobs,” Larson said. “The window of time is too tight.”

North Korea arrests a failed warship launch as images show containers protected from prying eyes

0

Seoul, Korea
CNN

North Korea arrested four people. State media reports that leader Kim Jong’s latest warship has been partially submerged at the shipyard.

The four people detained included the son of Ri Hyong, deputy director of the Munitions Industry Division of the Party Central Committee. “We were very responsible for the occurrence of serious accidents,” a report from the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Monday.

On Sunday, the KCNA said three other people were taken into custody: Kang Jong Chol, chief engineer at the Chongjin Shipyard where the accident occurred, is Han Kyong Hak, head of Hull Construction Workshop, and Kim Yong Hak, assistant manager of administrative affairs.

Last week, Kim called He witnessed “criminal conduct” and vowed to punish those responsible.

Last Wednesday’s accident was caused by a malfunction of the startup mechanism. KCNA reported on Thursday with a rare hospitalization of a fault from a very secret condition as the stern of a still-unknown 5,000-ton destroyer slipped prematurely into the water, crushing parts of the hull and leaving the ship tied to the ship.

State media reported on Friday that the damage to the warship was less than North Korea’s original estimate, saying that the hull had no holes in the hull but had been scratched along the right board side. He also said, “a certain amount of seawater has flowed into the stern section.”

The report says repairs can take around 10 days. Analysts are skeptical though.

Kim ordered the destroyers to be restored before a meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party in late June, calling the issue one of the national honors.

Satellite images show most of the warships covered in blue waterproof ships at launch sites, making it difficult for experts to determine the full extent of damage suffered.

But analyst Carl Schuster, a former US Navy captain, said repair work could take up to six months, far beyond Kim’s June target.

“If the hull damage spreads to the port side of a tarp-covered ship, we’re looking at four to six months of repair work,” he said.

According to Schuster, repairs can be complicated depending on the amount of seawater entered the warship.

The interior of the ship must be thoroughly washed away with fresh water and dried to prevent the “salted crust” from forming on the metal surface, he said.

“When it gets into joints and things, it gets destructive,” Schuster said.

However, the flushing operation cannot be started until the ship is correct and the holes in the hull are patched, he said.

KCNA reported on Monday that “work is being actively carried out to fully restore the warship’s balance,” but that didn’t give a timeline.

Satellite images of Maxar Technologies, taken Sunday and supplied to CNN, showed the ship still covered on its side, but are almost covered with a blue tarp as small boats flock around it.

South Korean lawmaker and defense analyst Yoo Yong Wang said last week he quickly led to problems he encountered on Wednesday, and he warned that the rush to repairs could cause more problems.

Schuster reflected that idea by saying that optics are more important to the Kim administration than military values.

“If Kim Jong-un says, ‘I want to install a ship in six months,’ they’ll take a shortcut to make that happen. And usually, when you do, do you end up with a ship that says you are not the best for the ship? But it meets the standards of propaganda. ”

CNN’s YoonjungSeo and Gawon Bae contributed to this report.

The singer ties the knot with the Jordanian “jute” route

0

Demi Lovato’s “Ever” with the Jordan Route has officially begun.

Pop star, 32, and musician boyfriend Jordan “Jute” tied the knot at a ceremony in California on May 25th. The wedding comes a year and a half after the couple announces their involvement on social media.

To celebrate the Lovato and Lute aisles, Vogue shared a photo of Lovato’s charming bridal gown on Instagram. The corsetted off-shoulder flocks were custom made by British design brand Vivienne Westwood.

USA Today contacted Lovato’s representative for comment.

For the wedding reception, Lovato wore another Westwood piece. An ivory silk satin column dress with a draped corset top featuring broken pearls along the neckline.

“There was a lot of attention to detail on the reception dress beads,” Lovato told Vogue. “The pearl details and drapes were very special, each strand was draped one by one and attached by hand. It’s a unique piece that makes me feel very special.”

Lovato and Lutes met while creating their 2022 album “Holy FV-,” which was inspired by the singer’s rock. In an August 2022 interview on Apple Music, Lovato revealed how his romance with Lutes influenced LP’s closing track, 4 Ever 4 Me.

“I haven’t actually written love songs for a long time,” Lovato told host Zane Lowe. “I began to feel these feelings, and it seemed like I had to remove them from my breasts… my heart lies in that song.”

Lovato and Lutes gave a preview of the couple’s bliss in a Valentine’s Day photo shoot shared on Instagram. The couple at the time kept their classics as Lutes wore a black and white tuxedo and Lovato wore a white dress that was off the shoulders and a matching head scarf.

“Jordan, I can’t wait to marry you!!” Lovato wrote at the time. “The past three years have been the best three years of my life. I thank you. I am obsessed with your heart, your love and your light.

Jake Wood: Head of the controversial US-backed Gaza Aid Group has stepped down, citing concerns about independence and fairness

0

CNN

The head of Gaza’s new US- and Israel-backed aid distribution programme resigned after weeks of controversy, citing concerns about equity and urged Israel to allow more aid to enclaves blocked in Israel.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aims to implement a new, strictly controlled mechanism for the delivery of aid to Gaza, which has been criticized by the United Nations and others, risking further evacuation of Palestinians and putting their citizens at risk.

US military veteran Jake Wood left GHF executive director within weeks with an organization that was released by the US in early May.

“I’m proud of the work I overseen, such as developing practical plans that can feed hungry people, address security concerns about diversion and complement the work of long-standing NGOs in Gaza,” Wood said in a statement.

“But it is clear that this plan is not possible, and that it adheres to the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, equity and independence.

In a statement, the GHF criticized the enemy for being “disappointed” by Wood’s resignation and saying he “focuses on tearing it apart rather than getting assistance.”

The organization said it would begin deliveries on Monday, adding that it plans to supply “the whole population of the population in the coming weeks,” adding that “the trucks are loaded and ready” on Sunday.

GHF’s plans to provide assistance have been approved by Israel and the United States. Both countries say it is designed to prevent Hamas from “stealing” aid.

It is set to begin operating four distribution sites in southern and central Gaza, but has received intense criticism from top humanitarian officials as the United Nations and other organizations have refused to cooperate with the new group.

The UN warned that the fact that the first locations were only in southern and central Gaza As the Israeli Defense Minister said earlier this month, it could be encouraged to encourage Israel’s publicly stated goal of enforcing “all Gazan” from North Gaza.

It is painful to say that both the US and the GHF, despite Israel’s support, is not an Israeli initiative.

Speaking to CNN in early May, Wood urged the United Nations and other groups to reconsider their opposition, acknowledging that the plan would “not perfect” but would allow serious aid and food supplies to Gazans who desperately need it.

He added in May that “clearly… not part of what forces the Palestinian population to dislocate or displace.”

JakeWood.jpg

Gaza Humanitarian Foundation Director explains plans to get assistance to Gaza

03:52

In a statement of resignation on Sunday, he said that while as executive director, he had sought to establish the foundation “as a truly independent and humanitarian entity.”

Wood said he was “terribly saddened by Gaza’s hunger crisis,” and “we were forced to do everything we could to alleviate our suffering.”

“I urge Israel to significantly expand its provision of aid to Gaza through all mechanisms, and urge all stakeholders to continue to explore innovative new ways to provide aid without delay, appropriation or discrimination,” Wood said.

The GHF is expected to be able to feed about 60% of Gaza’s population in the first few weeks.

Private American security contractors are responsible for protecting aid trucks from the Gaza border to distribution sites and are not involved in the distribution of aid to civilians, Wood said.

Gaza faces widespread hunger amid a serious shortage of essential humanitarian aid. Gaza’s Palestinian Ministry of Health has recorded 58 deaths from malnutrition and 242 deaths from food and medical shortages since the Israeli aid lockdown began in March.

The miscarriages of more than 300 were attributed to nutrient deficiencies, the department told CNN on Sunday.

Last week, Israel said it would allow “basic amounts of food” to enter Gaza due to “operational needs” as the troops push for something offensive called “Gideon’s Tanks.” The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said Gaza’s hunger crisis could put operations at risk.

Palestinians wait for them to receive their food prepared in a charity kitchen in Jabariya, northern Gaza on May 19, 2025.

Ahmad Al Banna, who owns a bakery in Dale Al Bala, Gaza, said on Sunday it reopened on Wednesday, only to close in three days after its flour stock was gone.

“Gaza is tired,” he said. “There are hungry people on the streets.”

Another resident, Um Jamal Musleh, said she and her two children rely on a local charity-run kitchen. “Today, we were shocked to see a sign saying it was the last day in the kitchen. That means we’re hungry,” she said.

Asmaa al-Caffarne, who was waiting in the kitchen on Sunday, said she had not eaten bread two months later. “If they don’t die in an Israeli airstrike, they’ll die of hunger,” she said.

Israel said it allowed 107 aid trucks to be put into the territory on Sunday, but the UN said that that wasn’t enough.

Unrwa, the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency in Gaza, says that as civilians face a severe shortage of supplies like food and medicine, Enclaves need at least 500-600 trucks each day. The United Nations also advocated for humanitarian assistance travelling along unstable routes, preventing many aid trucks from safely reaching their destinations.

Professional hunter and television personality Phil Robertson, best known for his role in the series “The Duck Dynasty,” has passed away. He was 79 years old.

In an emotional Instagram post on May 25th, Robertson’s son Willie Robertson and daughter-in-law Corey Robertson confirmed that Phil died after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

“We celebrate today with our father, husband and grandfather Phil Robertson being with the Lord,” the couple wrote. “He frequently reminded me of Paul’s words: “You will not grieve like people who have no hope. I believe that Jesus died and rose again, so I believe that God will bring Jesus with those who have fallen asleep.”

Robertson’s other son, Jace Robertson, confirmed in December 2024 that the TV personality and founder of Duck Commander were in the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s disease, adding that his brain condition joined a series of other health issues “provoking problems throughout his body.”

“Phil isn’t doing well,” Jace said at the time on the “Embarrassment with the Robertson Family” podcast. “We were trying to find a diagnosis, but I’m sure they have some kind of blood disorder that is causing all sorts of problems,” according to the doctors.

Robertson, whose family-owned hunting goods business, was the focus of the “Duck Dynasty,” starred in the first four seasons of the A&E series, which debuted in 2012.

In 2013, Robertson sparked controversy after making a statement in GQ Magazine that led to A&E being placed on an “indefinite hiatus.” He was temporarily on the sidelines from the series, but the suspension was later aborted.

“I am grateful for the love and prayer of many who have brought his life to life through grace, bold faith, and his desire to share the good news of Jesus with everyone,” Willie and Cory Robertson wrote on Instagram. “We are grateful for his life on earth and continue our legacy of love for God and to others.

Robertson’s death is because the duck dynasty franchise is set to return with the reboot of “Duck Dynasty: Resurrection.” The spin-off follows Willie and Corey Robertson and his six family, “working to map Commander Duck’s future.” A&E ordered two seasons of the show, each consisting of 20 episodes.

Willie and Corey Robertson said the private service will be held in Robertson’s honor, but said “the public celebration of his life” would soon be announced.

Texas House Approves Bill Requiring 10 Commandments in Public Schools

0

play

The Texas House has advanced a bill that requires all public schools in the state to display 10 commandments in classrooms.

The Republican-controlled House voted 82-46 on May 25th to approve a version of Senate Bill 10 after about a week of debate and several attempts by Democrats to amend a bill requiring other religious texts from Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. These modifications were denied.

The bill was passed with amendments to make it clear that states defend and pay legal challenges to the law on behalf of schools and districts.

The law may face legal action as critics raise concerns about a potential violation of the First Amendment establishment provision and prohibit public schools from “providing religious guidance in a dedicated way or stating “prayers recited by students or school authorities.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to sign a measure that will take effect in September. The state Senate passed the bill in March with a 20-11 vote.

Under this bill, all public classrooms must display posters or framed copies of the Ten Commandments, which are at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall. The bill is not exempt from the bill, and schools that do not post Christian doctrines must “accept offers for personal donated posters or framed copies.”

Republican-led states promote religion in public schools

Conservative lawmakers across the country have led efforts to spread religious teaching in public school classrooms, including introducing the Bible to reading lessons and requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in classrooms.

In states where evangelical Christians make up a significant portion of their constituents, the incorporation of biblical teaching into their curriculum has gained traction.

In Louisiana, Republican Gov. Jeff Landry signed a law in June 2024 that directs all public classrooms to display 10 commandments. The law was later blocked by federal judges who declared it unconstitutional and was also challenged by parents and several civil rights groups.

A similar law was recently passed in Arkansas, Little Rock Public Radio reported in April. In November 2024, Texas officials proposed a curriculum that incorporates teachings from the school’s Bible.

In July 2024, top education officials in Oklahoma ordered public schools to teach the Bible. Despite the state’s Republican-controlled Congress rejecting his $3 million request to fund the effort, state school principal Ryan Walters claimed that his classroom will have the Bible by fall 2025.

School administrators and civil rights advocates are retreating by saying these duties violate students’ rights.

“The court has repeatedly ruled that it is unconstitutional for public schools to force them to support or participate in religion or their exercises,” the Oklahoma ACLU’s legal director said in a statement last year in response to Walters’ orders.

Joseph Neumeyer: Americans indicted for plot throwing Molotov cocktails at the US embassy in Israel

CNN

An American man was arrested Sunday after allegedly planned to throw a Molotov cocktail at a branch of the US embassy in Israel, according to the US Department of Justice.

Authorities arrested 28-year-old Joseph Neumeyer at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, at John F. Kennedy Airport, New York, according to a Justice Department news release.

The DOJ, a German citizen, Neumayer, also arrived at the US embassy in Tel Aviv on May 19th and was allegedly spitting on the embassy security guards without provocation.

Neumeyer said the guards tried to detain him and left his backpack and somehow broke freely, DOJ said, citing the complaint.

The security guards discovered three Molotov cocktails in their backpacks, the department said. Law enforcement tracked Neumeyer down to his hotel in Israel where he was arrested.

Authorities searched Neumayer’s social media. This is said to have included posts before that day. His pages are said to have included the phrase “death to America, death to Americans” and the threat of assassinating US President Donald Trump.

“The defendant is being charged with planning a catastrophic attack targeting our embassy in Israel and threatening death to the lives of Americans and President Trump,” Attorney General Pamela Bondy said.

Kash Patel, director of the FBI, said: “This mean and violent behavior is not tolerated at home or abroad, and the FBI will work with our partners to bring him to face justice for his dangerous behavior.”

Neumeyer is said to have arrived in Israel last month. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, according to the Justice Department.

The revelation of Neumayer’s accusation comes shortly after the fatal shootings of two Israeli embassy staff in Washington, D.C. The killing is being investigated as a terrorist act, police said, after the shooting cried out “free Palestine” and told law enforcement that he “did it for Gaza.”

Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem is meeting with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after the shooting.

A flight from Tokyo detoured to Seattle after passengers tried to open the door.

Authorities said all Japan Airlines flights from Tokyo to Houston were decoupled to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as passengers reportedly tried to fly through the plane’s exit doors.

According to Flightaware, the flight from Haneda Tokyo Airport to Houston Intercontinental Airport took about nine hours to a 12-hour journey. The flight safely landed at 4:19am local time, with Seattle police and the FBI Port of Seattle.

Seattle Port spokesman Chris Giazlo said:

In a statement to USA Today, all Nippon Airways confirmed the incident, saying that Ana Flight 114 was “repurposed during flight to Seattle due to unruly passengers.”

FBI Seattle spokesperson Amy Alexander said fellow passengers and crew members were holding the man while the plane was in the air. Upon arrival, the Seattle Police Port conducted an assessment and determined it was experiencing a medical crisis.

He was then taken to a local hospital by emergency medical services for further treatment, police said.

While the plane was sitting on the runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, another passenger was “frustrated” by the repurposed use and punched the toilet door. The second individual was exhausted due to “uncontrollable behavior,” and the flight resumed in Houston and landed about four hours after its expected arrival time.

At this time, neither passenger has been charged, the FBI said.

“The safety of passengers and crews is our number one priority and we praise the efforts of local law enforcement agencies to support,” said All Nippon Airways.

All Japan Airlines, a Japanese airline based in Tokyo, serves several US destinations, including Los Angeles, Seattle, Honolulu and New York, and features flights to Asia. In 2024, a very drunk passenger on all Nippon Airways flights from Tokyo to Seattle reportedly bit the flight attendant in his arm an hour after takeoff.

The unidentified passenger was detained by the flight crew, Kyoda News reported.

As of May 18th, there were 597 unruly passenger reports to the Federal Aviation Administration in 2025.

Pope Leo prays for Catholics in China, hinting at how he approaches one of the church’s most troublesome issues

0

Rome
AP

Pope Leo XIV asked Chinese Catholics to pray for fellowship with Holy Shi.

The first American Pope in history recalled that on Saturday the Catholic Church marked a special East Feast Day to pray for the Chinese Church. Pope Benedict XVI began the feast as part of an effort to unify the estimated 12 million Catholics in China, split between the official state-controlled church that did not recognize the papal authority and the underground church that remained faithful to Rome through decades of persecution.

“Prayer was raised by God as a sign of solicitation and affection for Chinese Catholics and fellowship with the universal church,” Leo said.

Speaking through the studio window during the noon blessing, Leo prayed that Catholics in China and elsewhere would “have the blessings to be strong and joyous witnesses of the gospel, in order to promote peace and harmony, even in the midst of trial.”

Pope Francis has further taken Benedict’s unifying efforts by approving a controversial deal over a bishop nomination in 2018. Although details of the contract were never released, Francis claimed he had a veto over the ultimate choice, but the state-controlled churches are given a say to the church leaders.

The deal has been criticized by some for falling into Beijing’s demands, particularly for Catholic rights, and for selling out loyal Chinese underground people. The Vatican says it is the best deal you can get and has been updated regularly since.

Leo will need to decide whether to continue updating the agreement. On the Beijing side there were unilateral appointments that occurred without the consent of the Pope, and there were several obvious violations. The issue came to mind just before Conclave, who elected Leopop, as the Chinese Church advanced the primary election for the two bishops.

Leo told the Archbishop of Hong Kong, Stephen Chow, Cardinal of Cardinal, that he had visited China several times and learned about Chinese culture and reality.

Chou added that he expects Leo to follow the directions of Francis of the Chinese church. He said he gave Leo a small statue of Our Lady of Sheshan. Sheshan is a statue of Madonna, particularly respected by Chinese followers and celebrated on May 24th on the Day of East Feast.

Jesuit Chow said he begged Leo “to forget about the Chinese and the church of the Chinese people,” according to the newsletter. “He nodded his head to show that he would never forget,” according to Fides.

The Vatican has worked for many years to improve relations with China, which was officially cut off more than 70 years before the communists came to power. The Vatican had claimed the exclusive right of the Pope to name the successors of the original apostles, but the Vatican had long been hampered by China’s claims about the exclusive right to naming bishops as a matter of national sovereignty.

The 2018 deal was intended to consolidate the flock, normalize the status of seven bishops that were not recognized by Rome, and to thaw decades of alienation between China and the Vatican.

Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin is “mad” after the Ukraine attack

0

play

President Donald Trump expressed his confusion after the latest bombing of Russian Ukraine, saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “absolutely crazy.”

“I’ve always said that he wants everything about Ukraine, and not only that, but also proves that it’s right, but if that’s the case, it’s going to lead to Russia’s downfall!” Trump said in a true social post about the Russian leader on May 25th. “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin from Russia, but something happened to him. He’s absolutely crazy!

Trump added that Putin is “unnecessarily killing many people.” “I’m not just talking about soldiers,” he added, “the missiles and drones have been shot by Ukrainian cities for no reason.”

Russian forces have killed at least 12 people and injured dozens more in Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kiev, in the largest air attack of the war so far, officials said. Trump tried to agree to a ceasefire in a war three years ago in Ukraine, and gave a speech with Putin for more than two hours earlier this month.

After the conversation, Trump said it would begin “quickly” after his Russian counterpart refused to attend negotiations with Ukrainian Voldy Mie Zelensky on May 15th.

In his post on May 25th, Trump also denounced Zelensky for the ongoing war, saying that he “has not benefited his country by speaking like him.”

“Everything from his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, it stops better,” Trump wrote in the Society of Truth.

This was not the first time Zelensky has denounced Zelensky for not preventing Trump from blocking Russian invasion. Trump denounced Ukraine for the war in February, and an oval office with Zelensky caused a conflict, leading to a collapse of talks between the two countries.

“He’s always trying to buy missiles,” Trump said of Zelensky in April. “When you start a war, you need to know that you can win a war. You don’t start a war with someone 20 times your size.

In a conversation with a reporter at an airport in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump has increased the likelihood of imposing more sanctions on Russia in response to an ongoing attack.

The best way to make a big splash in the pool (it’s very difficult)

0

New Zealand’s Maori has completed a unique and troublesome, difficult diving. Can shoot a 32-foot water jet.

play

Certainly there is a belly flop. Cannonball. bomb. But there’s nothing better than “pop the manu,” a unique and difficult type of diving completed by New Zealand’s Maori, which can shoot a 32-foot water jet for all the biggest pool splashes.

The cultural traditions of decades have become so popular that Auckland’s annual World Championships are held at cash awards, with the latest in some such events over the past 20 years.

Now, Georgia Tech scientists are organizing exactly what these divers are doing to create large-scale splashes.

“It’s extremely difficult to master, very dangerous and requires millisecond control,” said Pankaji Rohira, a post-doctor researcher and co-author, who is co-author of the paper “Learn Manu.”

A Georgia Tech team of experts in liquid dynamics and biomechanics spent several months tackling the issue.

Mechanics learned involves analyzing over 75 videos of people doing manoo jumps, taking lab members to the Georgia Tech pool and making over 50 trial jumps.

Finally, researcher and co-author Daehyun Choi has built a hand-sized robot called “Manubot”, which can mimic the body movement of a diver during a Manu jump and test the exact angle that is optimal for creating the maximum water movement.

Allows maximum splash

The completed Maori jumpers are found to contain certain movements made within just 0.14 seconds, as seen every four years during the Olympics.

“It’s all about making a V-shaped body during water intrusion and creating a specific set of body dynamics underwater,” Rohira said.

Specifically, the best manu jumpers form the perfect 45° V with a body in the air. Then, as soon as they touch the surface of the water, the diver will return and kick, straighten their bodies.

This expands the cavity that forms when the body enters water. The height of the splash corresponds to the size of the cavity. The time of cavity collapse is known as the “pinch-off time.” Gravity pushes water back vertically, creating an upward jet of water.

“It’s basically the amount of energy trapped in the water,” Rohira said.

Technically, the first splash created by the body of a diver entering the water is called the crown splash, while the second is called the warthington jet, which is caused by the collapsed cavity.

Extreme body control and split second timing are required. The V-shaped body must be at a 45-degree angle to create the fastest and best Worthington jet, while ensuring diver safety.

Rohilla said when a diver is jumping from 3 meters, the rollback and kick motion must occur within 0.14-0.15 seconds of entering the water. It is about 10 feet tall.

The higher the jump, the less time the diver has to perform the rollback and kick.

“It looks easy, but it’s actually very challenging,” he said.

Manudiving can be damaged

Researchers warn that Manu Manuver can be not only difficult, but also dangerous and painful.

“The more you jump, the faster the reaction time, so it can be very dangerous,” Rohira said.

In particular, if you miss a 45-degree landing type, the water can slap the diver’s back with a lot of force.

“It hurt some of our teammates. It was extremely painful,” Rohira said. “It can be a dangerous sport because it can even damage the spine.”

Some pools in New Zealand do not allow manu diving, including one area where a child was injured.

a Maori Cultural sports

The sport dates back at least decades ago and has become an important cultural tradition in New Zealand.

The name most likely comes from the Maori word “manu,” meaning bird, but suggests that the sport is a shortened form of Mangere, a popular Auckland suburb.

It’s gone from what people did for fun to show off their talent as a competitive sport. In 2024, the first Manu World Championships took place in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. Other competitions appeared to go back at least back to 2011.

This year, Wellington has more than $23,000 in prize money. The jump height ranges from 3 feet of water for children to 16 feet for adults.

Divers can compete in the traditional manu style of V-bomb, but new styles have also been introduced, such as Gorilla, Cannonball and Co.

Competition uses high-tech cameras to calculate the splash height of each diver to ensure fair scoring.

“Thousands of hours of practice”

The fun of manu diving is making things people love on a large scale, given the amount of splash observed in places where kids play in the pool.

It is also the exact opposite of the clean and minimal splash required for competitive diving, and scoring in part depends on generating as little splash as possible as divers plunges into the water.

“We call it ‘ripping’,” said Filtonne, a dive coach at the University of California, Davis. “The minimum amount of splash correlates with the highest score.”

Making a splash is just as difficult as making a big splash. “You want to be as streamlined as you can get,” Tonne said. “It will take thousands of hours.”

The Pacers returned with less than seven minutes left in less than four minutes ahead of Aaron Nesmith, who went to the locker room with his right ankle sprained in the third quarter.

The Pacers produced a 6-0 scoring run to maintain a 68-52 lead in the third quarter with eight minutes remaining.

The Knicks produced their own scoring run and ended the quarter with an outscore of a 7-2 run.

Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith returned to the locker room after suffering a sprain in his right ankle in the third quarter. According to TNT, he is suspected of returning.

The New York Knicks are on the brink.

Already 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks were sputtered in the second quarter of Game 3 and are currently facing a 13-point deficit with a break of 58-45.

The Pacers exploded late in the quarter, with a 13-0 run caused by their defense, but Indiana’s offense has contributed from everywhere. Each of the 10 pacers who participated in the game scored. However, the second quarter run was led by All-Star Point Guard Tyrees Halliburton.

New York finished 8-2 runs just minutes after Indiana opened the biggest lead of the game with 20 points.

Knicks Center’s Karl Anthony Towns struggled with both shot choices and discipline in the first half. The town picked up an inadvertent foul with three seconds remaining in the first quarter, and was blown two more times at the next 5:50 in the second quarter. Towns only had four points in seven shootings.

He is not the only player in foul trouble. What’s even more unsettling for New York is Jalen Brunson, the team’s unsuspecting leader and top offensive threat, earned his fourth foul in the second half.

Branson led all Knicks scorers with 11 points in two-nine shots, with Mikal Bridge and OG Anunoby chipping with 7 and 10 points respectively.

The Knicks started the quarter fast, taking their biggest 11-6 lead in the first quarter and passed it. They are on the trail, 30-26.

Indiana scored a 10-4 run to take the first lead of the game after Ben Shepherd put on a three-point shot from an assist from Tyreese Halliburton.

Miles Turner scored five points after shooting 2-3 from the field. Halliburton had four points, two assists and two rebounds.

The Pacers’ bench contributed 13 points, but the Knicks’ reserves were nearly scoreless before Josh Hart added two points late.

Jalen Brunson scored 11 points for the Knicks after shooting 6-for-6 from the field.

Known for being a high energy player with glass and pushing the ball up to the floor, Hart found it difficult to influence the Pacers.

Robinson has been steadily sparking from Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau’s bench, particularly with offensive rebounds and defensive rotations.

Alex Pallow, who wore a Tyrees Halliburton jersey during the Indy 500 parade through downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, planned a possible Game 3 trip.

The Indy 500 winner greeted the Gainbridge Field House crowd in the second quarter wearing the winner’s rings and wreaths. His attendance came just hours after becoming the first Spaniard to win a legendary race in Indianapolis since 1911.

Alex Pallow finally lost one piece to his IndyCar resume, the Indianapolis 500 victory.

The three-time IndyCar Series champion passed Marcus Erickson for the remainder of the 14 laps, holding back the 2022 Indy 500 winner and the 2023 runner-up, earning “the biggest spectacle in the race” as Nolan Siegel before the coach took the checkered flag.

Paulou drove the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda and became the first Spaniard to win a legendary race dating back to 1911.

“I can’t believe it. It’s amazing to be here. It’s amazing to win,” the overwhelmed Palou said after climbing out of his car. “The first oval victory. What a good place.” – – Ellen J. Flow

Venezuela held elections in oil-rich regions. The main problem is that it belongs to other countries, Guyana

0

CNN

Venezuelans He was elected to governor and other lawmakers for the first time on Sunday. For Essequibo, Venezuela is an oil-rich area that Venezuela claims, despite its widespread recognition as part of its neighbourhood Guyana.

Essequibo’s 125,000 residents, which account for more than 15% of the English-speaking country’s population, did not take part in the election on Sunday.

The vote, which was widely criticized by Guyanese officials, instead was elected by the Venezuelans, six agents to the Venezuelan parliament, and seven to the local legislative assembly. It is unclear how the officials were elected as to how Guyana-controlled territory will be elected.

The election is the latest provocation in a long-term territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana.

More than a year has come when Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ordered the creation of a new state in a territory that is roughly the size of Florida, known as “Guayana Esekiva,” following a referendum in which Venezuelan voters approved the move.

Guyana called Venezuela’s actions a step towards annexation, a “existent” threat when the ghosts of armed conflict loomed on the region.

Maduro announced in January that the vote would be held in the region as part of a larger election for governors and lawmakers across the country. “I want freedom of conscience to help people and people choose the best governor of 24 states,” Maduro told Telegram ahead of Sunday’s election, calling Essequibo the country’s 24th state.

The vote brought Guyana to watch out, and on Saturday President Irfan Ali called the poll “scandalous, false, propaganda (and) opportunistic.”

Guyana has a huge amount of oil reserves and is on track to become the world’s highest per capita oil producer. However, it has an army estimated to be less than 5,000 soldiers, and there is a shortage of hardware and talent to face Venezuela’s aggression.

Meanwhile, the country has sought closer military cooperation with the United States amidst the threat from Venezuela.

On Sunday, the US State Department’s Western Hemisphere Bureau called the election “false” of X.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez opposed the criticism on Sunday, saying “we are supported by historical, legal and moral grounds regarding its territory.”

Venezuela has for decades claimed Essequibo to be unique, claiming it was within Spanish colonial borders. It dismissed a 1899 ruling by an international arbitrator who set the current boundaries when Guyana was still a British colony.

The Essekibo River runs through the Kurupukari intersection on November 19, 2023 in Guyana. Venezuela has long been claiming the Essequibo region of Guyana, a territory larger than Greece and rich in oil and minerals.

Guyana has dominated the region since gaining independence in 1966. Recent discoveries of vast offshore oil fields in the region have heightened conflict interests.

In 2018, Guyana filed an application with the International Court of Justice to verify the 1899 decision. The case is still under review. With the final decision on its own, the court ordered Venezuela to refrain from holding elections on the territory earlier this month. However, Caracas refused the court’s jurisdiction over the matter.

On the eve of Venezuela’s election, two days before Guyana’s Independence Day, Guyana officials held a national patriotic concert in Essequibo to affirm their sovereignty over the land.

The event brought together thousands of people who saw them waving a Guyana flag and wearing shirts that read “Essekibo belongs to Guyana.”

“Essequibo belongs to Guyana and we’re going to do everything to ensure that Essequibo will become part of the 83,000 square miles,” President Ali told a crowd of cheer supporters.
