The US rejects UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza

0

CNN

The United States on Wednesday rejected a resolution by the UN Security Council to call for an “immediate, unconditional, permanent and permanent” ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, a Gaza militant group.

The United States was the only country opposed the resolution. Fourteen others, including the UK, voted in favor. There was no absenteeism.

US UN ambassador Dorothy Kamille Sia said the US opposed the resolution as Hamas did not ask to disarm and leave Gaza.

“(Resolution) is unacceptable for what it says, unacceptable for what it says, and unacceptable for how it has progressed,” she said in a comment before the vote was made.

The United States has taken a very clear position since the beginning of this conflict that Israel has the right to protect itself, which assures us that we will never again be in a position that will defeat Hamas and threaten Israel. In this regard, the product that undermines the security of our close allies is not a star,” she added.

This is not the first time the US has rejected a UN Security Council resolution on Gaza. In November 2024, it rejected anyone seeking an immediate, unconditional, permanent ceasefire because it failed to secure the release of hostages.

The UK said it “remorried” that the latest resolution “didn’t reach a consensus.”

“The UK voted in favor of this resolution today due to the unbearable circumstances of Gaza,” said the UK’s permanent representative in New York’s United Nations after the vote.

“We are determined to see the end of this war and to ensure the release of the hostages Hamas holds and alleviate the devastating humanitarian situation for the Palestinians in Gaza,” she added.

Palestinians will meet on May 21st at a refugee camp in central Gaza to receive hot meals at food distribution points.

Woodward described Israel’s expansion of military operations in Gaza and strict restrictions on aid as “unfair, disproportionate and counterproductive.”

In mid-May, Israel said it aims to destroy Hamas, release hostages, raise denunciations from the United Nations and aid bodies warning civilians to bear the brunt of the expanded attack.

The ambassador also denounced Hamas for its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, demanding extremist groups to “release all hostages immediately and unconditionally” and said “Hamas has no role in Gaza’s future governance.”

The ambassador also revised the UK’s position that “the two-state solution is the only way to provide long-term peace, stability and security that both Israelis and Palestinians deserve.”

Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar thanked President Donald Trump and the US administration for “taking shoulders with Israel and for rejecting this unilateral resolution at the UN Security Council.”

Protesters in Tel Aviv on May 24th demand the release of Israeli hostages lured during Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

“The proposed resolution simply strengthens Hamas and undermines America’s efforts to achieve hostage trade,” he added in X’s post shortly after the vote.

The draft text called for “an immediate, unconditional, permanent ceasefire in Gaza, respected by all parties,” and “an immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian assistance to Gaza and its safe and unhindered distribution.” They also called for “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups.”

Israel launched a war in Gaza after Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups launched a surprising attack on Southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel’s history.

Gaza’s Palestinian Health Ministry said the number of people killed in the Israeli attacks in the wake of the October 7 attacks has exceeded 54,000.

Maserati SUVs are used for less than $40,000 from Hertz

The used Maserati Grecale scores at a cheaper price than a fully loaded Toyota RAV4.

play

  • Hertz sells Maserati Grecale at the following market values:
  • Grecale has recently been added to Maserati’s portfolio and its most affordable models.
  • The Maserati Grecale has impressive performance specifications and sophisticated interiors.

Maserati cars are known for their stylish exterior, luxurious interiors and incredible performance specifications. Affordable prices are not exactly synonymous with models from Italian brands. Hertz offers Maserati’s latest SUV models for under $37,000. This is less than the new 2025 Toyota Rav4 Limited.

The company offers several models at very discount rates compared to actual market value. Is Grecale worth considering at the prices offered by Hertz?

Hertz sells Maserati Grecale SUVs for under $40,000

So, why is it amazing that Hertz sells Maserati Grecale models for under $40,000? The Grecale debuted as a 2023 small, luxurious SUV with a starting price of a whopping $63,500. According to CNBC, the price is not surprising for a Maserati luxury SUV, but it’s higher than what the average American spends on a new car (about $50,000).

Hertz has 29 Maserati Grecale Small Luxury SUVs for sale at the time of publication. According to the company’s website, the most affordable prices of these Grillishal SUVs start at just $36,540 and start at under 29,000 miles. As it is a 2023 base model, it is sold for less than 58% of the original MSRP. This is a depreciation rate of 42% in just a few years.

How much should I pay for a used Maserati galrail?

Getting used Maserati Grecale is a great way to enjoy the thrill of Maserati without paying the price of a new Maserati. A fair purchase price for the Kelley Blue Book at 2023 Maserati Grecale, under 29,000 miles from the dealership, is $38,522. Its typical list price is $39,222.

Therefore, if the Hertz price is advertised while the ink is dry on the document, you can get Maserati Grecale under market value. That said, Hertz’s Grecale model is available nationwide and companies can charge an extra fee for purchase, so they take these prices in salt grains and do their own due diligence.

At first glance, Hertz offers Grecale Small Luxury SUVs at an attractive price, but buyers still need to be careful. The typical listing price for a Kelley Blue Book is a solid benchmark of what the true market value of an SUV is. Why did Greeks drop so much in so little time? Is that a good SUV?

Is the Maserati Grecale a good SUV?

The 2025 Maserati Grecale starts at $77,900. It uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to generate 325 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The small, luxurious SUV accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds. It reaches 22 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. All-wheel drive comes standard with Grecale.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mq5gfs8rhw

Maserati SUVs feature high quality cabin materials and over 33 inches of display surfaces. The car and driver praise Greece for its “sporty yet comfortable ride.”

Maserati’s small luxury SUV offers an entry point into the ownership of the average American car buyer of Maserati. The second-hand models, which have been significantly discounted, are even more affordable, with fair market value below the average price of a new car. Grecale’s depreciation rate is not uncommon in the class of luxury SUV vehicles. Therefore, Hertz’s current Grecale offering could be a great opportunity to get behind the wheel for stakeholders.

Who is prohibited and has meaning in future travel

President Donald Trump signed a drastic new travel declaration on Wednesday, citing national security concerns, banning or restricting entry from nearly 20 countries.

The ban bans travel to the United States for foreigners from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Trump has issued travel halts in Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and the Venezuelan Nationals.

The White House stressed that the ban targets countries with “high visa overreach rates” and that there is a “sufficient screening and screening.”

Trump’s controversial 2017 “Muslim ban” has similarities, targeting several large majority of countries and facing widespread protests and legal challenges. Former President Joe Biden, a Democrat who served following Trump’s first term, repealed the ban in 2021, calling it “the stain of our people’s conscience.”

This latest ban includes exceptions for legal permanent residents, current visa holders, and certain visa categories and “individuals who are useful in the national interests of the country,” but these qualifications are not specified.

What should international travelers know?

The impact on international travelers is diverse. Tourism, workplaces and student visa applicants in affected countries may face delays or denials. Those already in the US may still be able to renew their visas, but re-entry can be complicated.

The move fulfilled one of Trump’s pledges in 2024 campaign, following the recent anti-Semitic attacks in Colorado, and the president stated in the True Society, “and yet another example of why we must keep our borders safe and hire illegal anti-American extremists from our hometown.”

Travelers should consult the US Department of State website or immigration attorney for the latest guidance, particularly if they have origins or family members in any of the listed countries.

Which citizens are prohibited from entering the United States?

The complete travel ban applies to citizens of the following 12 countries:

  • Afghanistan
  • Burma (Myanmar)
  • Chad
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iran
  • Libya
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

Additionally, partial restrictions will be imposed on the following citizens:

  • Burundi
  • Cuba
  • Laos
  • Sierra Leone
  • Take home
  • Turkmenistan
  • Venezuela

When will the travel ban begin?

Travel restrictions will come into effect at 12:01am on Monday, June 9, 2025, according to a report by NBC News.

What happens to travelers from these countries when they arrive at the airport?

Travelers from a completely banned country attempting to enter the United States after the ban comes into effect could be denied airline boarding or denied upon arrival in the United States.

What happens to people who already have tickets?

Individuals from affected countries who have already purchased tickets to travel to the United States should consult with the airline or the nearest US embassy or consulate. Although there are a few exceptions, most travelers in countries that are completely banned are expected to be denied entry. People in partially restricted countries may be allowed to travel subject to additional screenings and requirements.

Travelers are encouraged to review the latest guidance from the US Department of State and consult with an immigration lawyer if they are concerned about their eligibility to enter the US under the new declaration.

Argentina’s president denies that the new intelligence news plan could enable surveillance of journalists and politicians

0

CNN

Argentine President Javier Mairay’s Bureau has denied a series of reports claiming it had approved a new plan that would allow oversight for journalists, politicians and economists.

A report by newspaper LaNación’s journalist Hugo Alconada Mon examined leaked national intelligence plans by the Argentina National Intelligence Secretariat, which outlines the goals of general intelligence reports, such as terrorist prevention and the fight against organized crime, but states that it “outlines goals of general intelligence reports, such as generalization, gray, gray areas, and ambiguity.”

“For example, the side has the power to gather information about all those who try to “erode” the public’s trust in the person responsible for ensuring the country’s security,” but whether it refers to foreign agents or experts, journalists and citizens who question the actions of the Minister of National Security continues, an article from Alconada Mon continues.

On May 25, Milei’s office confirmed the existence of a new information plan, but denied it being used for such purposes.

Alconada Mon, one of Argentina’s most well-known investigative reporters and assistant editor of Lanasion, said he confirmed the reliability of the 170-page document in two independent sources.

Journalist, researcher, author, for the launch of his new spy book, Hugo Alconda Mon,

“It’s written in a vague way so that you can apply it in a correct or disturbing way,” he told CNN.

The CNN could not access the document, nor could the CNN independently validate it.

Alconada Mon said the plan aims to counter potential actions from foreign forces, including Russia’s alleged attempts to influence elections in other countries.

“So, as a sovereign state, we must ensure that other foreign powers don’t try this, and in this case the objective is valid. But it could actually refer to an analyst, a politician, a journalist, or someone else who might offer their opinions.

The President’s Office rejected the concept by saying in a statement: “This is the first government in decades that have made a political decision not to use sides to avoid persecuting enemies, journalists and political enemies,” he said.

Trump bans Harvard University from recognizing new international students

0

play

President Donald Trump has revoked Harvard’s permission to host incoming international students, the latest escalation in the ongoing battle between the White House and the country’s oldest university.

In an executive order issued on June 4th, Trump declared that hospitalizations of Harvard international students pose a threat to the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem had previously threatened to suspend Harvard’s international programs, but a federal judge temporarily prevented her from following.

With his new order, Trump listed a string of complaints against the university. He accused it of failing to protect Jewish students from pro-Palestinian protesters. He also noted that Harvard has long used races as a factor in enrollment, saying that in 2023 the Supreme Court began to break down race-based admissions policies across the country.

“It is not in the US’s interest to further exacerbate Harvard’s discrimination against non-preferred lace, national origin, shared ancestry, or religion. “In light of these facts, I have determined that it is necessary to limit the entry of foreigners who are trying to participate in research courses at Harvard or in exchange visitor programs sponsored by Harvard University, or primarily seeking to participate in the United States.”

The White House repeatedly clashed with Harvard University, refusing to reject information about student protesters and requests for external reviews of classes and instructors.

Over 25% of Harvard’s total student population is international students, with approximately 6,800 students from around 140 counties enrolling this grade. Trump’s order applies to new students arriving to study at Harvard University, asking Secretary of State Marco Rubio to consider whether to cancel the visa for current international students.

“In my opinion, Harvard’s actions made it an inappropriate destination for international students and researchers,” Trump said.

There are approximately 1.2 million international students in the United States. The two largest home countries are India and China, according to federal records.

Over 550,000 Ford vehicles were recalled due to airbags and structural issues that could increase the risk of collisions and injuries.

According to two notifications reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on May 27, the recall covers 556,043 cars in model years 2016, 2017 and 2025.

The first recall is about a 63,898 2025 Ford Maverick vehicle. Affected cars may have airbag indicator lights that can loosen or fall off. This means that the passenger is at increased risk of injury because he doesn’t know if the passenger’s airbag is on or off.

The second recall is 492,145 2016-2017 Ford Explorers. The B-pillar trims on the driver and passenger seat, or the frame separating the front seat window and the rear seat window, may peel off while driving. This can cause debris to jump into the road, pose a danger to drivers of these and other vehicles.

Here’s what you need to know.

Which Ford cars have been recalled?

  • 2025 Ford Maverick
  • 2016-2017 Ford Explorer

What should I do if I have a recalled Ford vehicle?

Anyone who owns a recalled Maverick model can take their vehicle to a Ford dealership and install a new airbag indicator light retention clip for free.

Treatments for the Explorer model are still under development.

The owner notification letter for both recalls is scheduled to be mailed on June 9, 2025. A second letter will be sent when a remedy is available. Owners may also contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 with recall numbers 25C17 and 25S53.

Check if your car has been recalled

Car owners who are attempting to check the status of their vehicle, car parts, or car accessories can enter information into the NHTSA recall database or check the recall of a car or car in the USA Today recall database.

All Wes Anderson movies ranked

play

You’ll know right away when you’re watching Wes Anderson’s movies.

Signature images, eccentricity, wide camera shots, and regular suspects (from Bill Murray to Owen Wilson) are all distinctive features of Anderson’s film production. And over the past 30 years, Oscar-nominated Ooter has made films about dysfunctional families, fellow thieves, stray dog islands, young children in love, adventurous hotel lobby boys, and more colorful personalities.

In the filmmaker’s latest all-star effort, “The Phoenician Scheme” (currently on June 6th nationwide, in theaters nationwide), Benicio Dello plays a wealthy businessman who gives birth to his nun’s daughter (Kate Winslet’s daughter Mia Slepton) to Company and Fortune.

In honor of this quirky new job, we rank every outing for the director.

13. ‘Bottle Rocket’ (1996)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjpq-nnjzr0

Luke and Owen Wilson star as friends who plan to stop robbing a lot until one of them falls in love with a hotel maid before joining the crime landscape gang (James Kern). Anderson’s first film, and the debut of both Wilson brothers, is rough around the edges, but the possibilities for all three talents are there from the start.

12.

Bill Murray plays the Jacques Cousteau-esque title character, a famous oceanographer and documentary looking for the Jaguar shark who once killed his best friend. His very strange quest for “white whale” also includes a triangle of love between Zissou, a pregnant reporter (Cate Blanchett), and a man who claims to be his son (Owen Wilson).

11. “Asteroid City” (2023)

The sci-fi drama is pretty much there, even in Anderson’s jam. Featuring songs from the kick-away era and fantastic production design, the film stars Jason Schwartzmann, Scarlett Johansson and others, starring as parents of talented children who gather for science conventions and are segregated by the government when UFOs appear. However, “city” has stories that distract us from the story more than it becomes deeper, so that’s a small story.

10. “Inujima” (2018)

Anderson pays homage to the poor nature of Japanese films and the underdogs in this whimsical stop-motion animated comedy. The dog flu leads the big city, expels the dog (speaks up by Bill Murray, Edward Norton, and others), on an island full of garbage, and the orphan boy who is seeking his best friend becomes friends with a grumpy wandering (speaks up by Brian Cranston).

9. “The Darjeeling Limited” (2007)

A year after his father’s death, a trio of estranged brothers (Adrian Brody, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman) meet up to ride a spiritual journey/train through India. On a humorous yet thoughtful trip of their brothers, they argue with the Himalayan mercury mother (Angelica Houston), fight, save, and search for some people.

8. “The Great Story of Henry Sugar” (2023)

Former military officer in Top Salvador declared for murdering a Dutch journalist during the war

The ju judge in El Salvador sentenced three retired high-ranking officers to 15 years in prison in 1982 for the murder of four Dutch journalists.

The three were charged with the murders of journalists Koos Joster, Jan Kuiper Joop, Johannes Jan Wilemsen and Hans Ter Laag on Tuesday.

Eleven years later, the United Nations Truth Committee discovered that the ambush “deliberately planned to surprise and kill journalists.”

The trial has been closed and details regarding the defendant’s plea and debate have not been made public.

The Civil War in El Salvador was extended from 1980 to 1992, raising left-wing guerrillas in US-backed Salvadoran forces, killing 75,000 people and an additional 8,000 people missing.

Former Defence Minister Jose Guillermo Garcia was declared along with two colonels, a ju-secret from the town of northern Charatenango and two colonels: former chief of finance police Francisco Moran and former commander of the infantry brigade, Mario Reyes.

The journalists will wait at the entrance to the Charatenango Judicial Centre, where a hearing is being held against a former military officer accused of ordering the murder of four Dutch journalists during the El Salvador Civil War (1980-1992) held in Charatenango, El Salvador on June 3, 2025.

All three, ages 91, 93 and 85, were sentenced in absentia. Garcia and Moran are in a hospital in custody, and Reyes currently resides in the United States, while El Salvador is seeking his return.

“Truth and justice have won, we have won,” Oscar Perez, president of the Communicationsdonos Foundation, who represents the relatives, told reporters. “The victim is the focus now. It’s not the perpetrator.”

Prosecutors had requested a 15-year sentence, taking into account the age and health of military officers.

The ju judge also issued a civil denunciation to the Salvador state for delays in implementing justice. This is a symbolic measure that mandates commander Naive Bukere, the military commander, to publicly seek forgiveness from the victims’ families.

Kia recalled more than 80,000 cars after discovering that the car’s parking lights didn’t work properly.

The recall applies to approximately 82,000 Kia K5 vehicles in the 2025 model year, according to a recall notice submitted by the automaker in late May and posted this week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to recall notifications, car parking lights can cause software issues that cause them to flicker, which can reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of crashes.

According to the recall notification, this issue can be fixed either by a “over-the-air” software update downloaded to your dealer or KIA vehicle.

Here’s what you need to know.

Where are the ice detainees in the Florida attack? Even the family doesn’t know.

0

Family members of Florida’s detained immigrants say they had trouble finding them in ice facilities, county jail.

play

  • What we know: More than 100 construction workers have been detained in Tallahassee, Florida.
  • Detainees have been sent to various locations, including Baker County in Florida, Miami and Texas, with some already deported to Mexico.
  • The location of some detainees remains unknown, causing pain for family and friends.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Friends of more than 100 construction workers’ family and friends say they’re having trouble finding their loved ones, detained in what was considered Florida’s biggest immigration attack this year.

Some of the workers were sent to immigration and customs enforcement facilities in Baker County, while some workers went to Chrome Detention Center in Miami. Others quickly flew to El Paso, Texas, but as of June 3rd they were still waiting for removal.

And some are already in Mexico. Just five days after being detained, he is taking a bus from the scene in Tallahassee, the state capital.

However, others are still silent, their friends and family are worried and waiting for a call to find out where they are and whether they are safe.

Questions about where detainees are heading and the facilities in which detention facilities are being detained have been pending with federal authorities since May 29th. Questions about how often detainees are transferred are also pending.

State records show that many of the statewide county detention facilities are already capable.

“There’s no obvious rhyme or reason where people are sent,” said Elizabeth Rich, a Florida immigration lawyer. Her company, Rambana & Ricci, represents clients who were detained in an attack on a construction site of a seven-storey multi-development known as Perla in Enclave.

Texas is thought to be better off sending detainees

Immigration attorneys say detainees are often sent to Texas. Judges are even tougher because they approach the US-Mexico border, are easier to remove, making it difficult for lawyers and families to track them down and block their removal.

According to Ricci, some of the workers were heading to Texas the day after the attack, as Ice’s online Detainee Locator system has not been reliable for the past few months, but no one could find friends or family.

“It’s very likely we’re on the phone waiting for a planned bond hearing, and anyone unknown to us has been sent to another facility,” Rich said. If a detainee is sent to another court’s jurisdiction, the attorney must re-publish the client’s documents in that district.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Republican leaders have criticized a federal judge who ruled against President Donald Trump’s massive deportation agenda. They describe it as “law” and refer to the use (or misuse) of the legal system to attack, trust, or obstruct the enemy.

They publicly condemned a Florida judge who found one of Florida’s latest immigration laws unconstitutional, saying she ruled beyond jurisdiction.

Florida’s “The Severeest” Reputation for Illegal Immigration

Florida officials also called on the federal government to have more room to establish their own brick-and-mortar facilities to detain and house more migrants.

They say exemptions from federal standards allow states to accommodate more people, and now they have no capacity to keep up with the president and Florida governor’s massive deportation obligations.

According to the state’s immigration enforcement operational plan, “There are big choke points in terms of detention. In the current state, ice is overwhelmed by the number of detainees arrested before assisting the process.”

Supporters say this led to migrants moving out of state and back to the ice custody, from the county jail.

There were 1,984 prison beds at the county detention facility at the end of March, according to a report on vacant beds on Larry Keefe, executive director of the State Affairs Committee.

However, some of the facilities, the 27 facilities are the only detention facility in the county, according to the report, do not have any available beds.

Mariana Blanco, director of operations at the Guatemala Mayan Center in Palm Beach County, has been tracking the detention of people in her community since March. .

Blanco said many detainees have been detained in Chrome and have been recognized as America’s oldest immigrant detention facility for weeks and even months. However, more and more detainees are constantly being transported from one detention facility to another, making it difficult to warn their family and their lawyers when they have family members or lawyers.

“We have people who have been detained for months. Within 24 hours, we have people who have already sent them back to their country, and the kid they were born,” Blanco said.

“There is no way to track detention and deportation jobs.”

For example, Blanco data shows that one client was held in Krome and then moved to the Broward County Detention Facility, where he is now at a Corrections Center in Northeast Ohio. The other took place in Stuart, Florida, then moved to Louisiana, then returned to Chrome and later exiled.

One client was forwarded nine times, Blanco said.

The constant relocation allowed the government to place some migrants on deportation services before they could speak to their families and lawyers, she added.

Most of her daily calls come from desperate families seeking help in finding detained families.

Before 8am, Rich receives a desperate call from a client who says his family hearing has been rescheduled for the day.

“It’s all part of this intentional system to make it even more difficult for people to defend,” Rich said.

The UN calls for an investigation after dozens of bodies are found at Libyan detention site

0

CNN

The UN is calling for an independent investigation after discovering dozens of bodies and evidence of human rights abuses in a militia-run detention facility in Libya’s capital, Tripoli.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said on Wednesday he was “shocked” by the revelation of significant human rights abuses revealed on a site run by the Libyan militia SSA. He called for the site to be “sealed” quickly and Libyan authorities to carry out a “quick, independent, fair and transparent investigation.”

Formed in 2021, the SSA (Stabilization Support Device) is a militia umbrella group that is prominent in western Libya and is facing previous allegations that they committed abuse and human rights abuse in the violence that has taken Libya since the collapse of Moremargadafi.

“The findings confirm the findings of years of investigations from the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the previous UN Independent fact-discovery mission, and relating to the existence of such places and the extent of violations committed in connection with them, including torture and the loss of death that was carried out,” Türk said.

Reports received by his office between May 18th and May 21st detail the excavations of 10 “charging agencies” at the SSA headquarters in Absalim district of Tripoli. Another 67 bodies were found in the refrigerators of the capital Absalim and Alkadra Hospital, with some bodies said to be in high decomposition due to power outages.

It is also reported that a burial site was found at Tripoli Zoo, which is under SSA control. The identity of the victim remains unknown. Alongside the bodies, “a measure of suspected torture and abuse, and potential evidence of extrajudicial killings” was revealed. “Our worst fears have been confirmed,” Türk said.

Türk emphasized the important need to maintain the evidence. “These sites must seal all potential evidence stored to support immediate accountability efforts. Those responsible for these heinous conduct must be brought to trial without delay in accordance with international standards.”

He expressed concern that Libyan forensic authorities being tasked with excavating and identifying has not yet been granted access to the site, prompting full and unhindered access. Türk also called on Libya to grant UN access to the United Nations to document violations as part of its mission.

The High Commissioner condemned the distribution of “terrifying images and video footage” on social media sites, claiming that “we must respect the dignity and privacy of the victims and the rights of their families.”

The harsh discoveries follow the killing of SSA leader Abdulgani Kikuri in May and the subsequent clash between national security forces and armed groups. These clashes sparked protests calling for an end to the violence in Tripoli. This reportedly led to Turk’s death and damage to property, including the hospital, as well as civilians and police officers.

This raises “serious concerns about assuring the fundamental rights of freedom of expression and assembly and the need to protect citizen spaces.”

Libya has been caught up in a political crisis since the overthrow of long-time dictator Gaddafi in 2011, causing a surge in armed groups across the country.

The October 2020 ceasefire agreement provided temporary relief, but Libya remains divided from various rival armed groups seeking to control the capital.

A Ford recall could force drivers to return to this safety technology

0

The problem with the Blue Oval software suggests a bigger problem for automakers.

play

  • The Ford model is recalled over software issues affecting the rear camera.
  • The recall will affect more than 1 million vehicles, including the bestselling F-150 pickup truck.
  • Modern vehicles include some standard safety and driver assistance features that drivers rely on.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently issued notifications for more than 1 million vehicles under the umbrella of Ford Motor Company, including Ford and Lincoln Neameplates.

The giant Ford recall is due to major software issues spanning several bestselling models, including the 2021-2024 Ford F-150 and the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco. This software issue raises a major issue for American drivers. Can cars move too far towards our own good, and simplify driving to the point where driver skills are sluggish? What’s more, is it potentially dangerous to rely on new safety and driver assistance features?

Ford drivers may have to resort to this technique to safely turn the car back

Before the arrival of rearview cameras in the US, many drivers had to turn their heads to look over the rear windows or rely on the rearview mirror to turn around. Drivers of older vehicles still rely on this technology, and the more than 1 million Ford owners affected by this recall could be forced as well (until the vehicle is repaired).

Therefore, Ford drivers operating affected vehicles may benefit from using the same technology that drivers use during licence road testing. Adding a flickering stage through the rear window during a reversal (as the driver did the pre-back-up cam) can help reduce the risk of crashes.

Ford recall expands to over 1 million vehicles due to back camera issues

Why do NHTSA’s recent recall notifications include over 1 million Ford models? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration safety report, “images from refrigerated or back-view cameras can reduce the view of drivers behind the vehicle and increase the risk of crashes.” A whopping 1,075,299 units could be affected by the issue, making this recall one of the biggest of 2025.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bccrwifvekw

Ford corrects this issue by updating the vehicle software at an authorized dealer or by updating the airline updates for free. A letter notifying the owner of a potential safety risk is expected to be mailed by June 16th. Why is this such a serious problem for American drivers?

The rise of backup cameras: how driving backup cams have changed for Americans

Driver assistance and safety features have evolved over the past decade. Today, many American drivers have access to standard technologies such as front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitors, lane keeping assist, and even rear cross-traffic alerts with automatic braking. These features have made driving safer than in the past few years, thanks to the increased auto braking and alert/recognition, but what did the driver do before these features became so popular?

“Backup cameras, also known as reverse cameras and rear cameras, have been the safety features needed for all new American-made cars since May 1, 2018,” according to American auto lifestyle and membership company Hagerty.

The rear-view camera simplified the process that drivers had practiced for decades, which changed the way Americans drive. The rearview camera provides better adaptation of proximity than the rearview mirror, making both sudden parallel parking and reversal easier and safer for the driver.

Adding front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitors and 360-degree cameras makes flipping even easier. Valvue cameras reduce crash rate reversal, and the Highway Safety Insurance Institute says sudden loss of accessibility of rear-camera can lead to the collision rate being reversed.

Is driving too simplified?

The Ford recall suggests a broader problem for the industry as a whole and for the American drivers. Is driving too easy in the eyes of Americans due to innovative new features? Driver warnings are standard on many popular nameplates as drivers can be distracted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpugh0qaqwa

Operating a car has been easier over the past decades, perhaps to the disadvantages of the driver. Vehicles can now be parked remotely and driven semi-autonomously (focusing on “semi”). According to a 2024 report on vehicle safety testing by CBS News, most semi-automobile systems are “lack in safety.”

Between all new sensors, warning indicators, automatic braking and advanced cruise control, drivers are increasingly relying on technology to make driving safer and more convenient. What happens if the technology or software fails?

Trump Administrators Can Rescue $4 billion for California High Speed Rail Project

0

Trump’s administration said there is no viable path for California’s high-speed rail projects, giving the state a response by mid-July

play

WASHINGTON, June 4 (Reuters) – The Trump administration said there is no viable path for California’s high-speed rail projects and warned that it could withdraw $4 billion in government funds in the coming weeks.

The U.S. Department of Transport released a 315-page report from the Federal Railroad Administration on June 4th. One important issue cited is that California has not identified $7 billion in additional funds needed to build the first 171-mile segment between Merced and Bakersfield, California.

USDOT gave California to respond until mid-July, after which the administration was able to end the grant. Trump said last month that the US government would not pay for the project.

The FRA report said California “contains taxpayers from a $4 billion investment, so there is no viable plan to provide a partial segment of that on time.”

The California High Speed Rail System is a planned two-phase, 800-mile system with speeds of 220 mph, intended to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim.

The California High Speed Railroad Administration said it is strongly opposed to the administration’s conclusion that “reflects substantial progress in delivering high speed rails in California.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s budget proposal said Congress will extend funding at least $1 billion a year for the next 20 years and “providing the resources needed to complete the initial operational segment of the project.”

Authorities said in May there was active civil construction along 119 miles in the central valley of the state.

Voters approved $10 billion for the project in 2008, but costs have risen sharply. The Transportation Department under former President Joe Biden has awarded the project about $4 billion.

The entire San Francisco to Los Angeles project was originally supposed to be completed at $33 billion by 2020, but now jumps from $89 billion to $128 billion.

In 2021, Biden recovered a $929 million grant for California’s high-speed rail that Trump cancelled in 2019 after a Republican president called the project a “disaster.”

Trump’s fast start hit some speed bumps

From Gaza to Ukraine, and from federal judges to the Federal Reserve, President Donald Trump has seen his early White House success take the backseat in a new struggle.

play

Washington – Reign? It’s more difficult than it looks.

Just as Donald Trump pushes him to pass the central presence of his domestic agenda, former BFF Elon Musk is destroying his “big, beautiful bill” as “nasty hatred.” The president’s prediction that Vladimir Putin will listen to his pleading to end the Ukrainian war in 24 hours has grown in the fifth month.

The judge he appointed to the bench is bold in controlling him.

From cutting federal spending, deporting illegal immigrants, reaching nuclear deals with Iran, to negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza, Team Trump bumps into obstacles that make it difficult to do with confidence before moving to the White House.

There are several skid marks where rubber has come across the road.

Certainly, some of the Trump issues come from the surplus of early success and the breadth of his ambitions. Through a flood of executive orders and actions, he began to transform the American approach to the American world and the role of the federal government in American life.

Congressional Democrats still struggle to create a consistent and consistent strategy against him.

But pushbacks from other forces are increasingly problematic for the White House – increasingly problematic for skeptical judges, foreign leaders with their own priorities, the stable Federal Reserve system, and the reality of budget arithmetic.

If Trump’s first 100 days are roller coasters, the second 100 days, the span that ends on August 8th, has proven to be a bit slow.

Ukraine: “It will take place within 24 hours.”

Trump’s question – for many of his predecessors in the White House – is how he chooses whether to double or adjust his goals and tactics when obstacles are looming, and how he responds.

Consider Ukraine.

In dozens of campaign speeches, Trump nominees said he would resolve the war in Ukraine once he takes office, perhaps before he moves out.

“I know Zelensky, I know Putin,” he said at a rally in Pennsylvania. It happens very quickly. ”

But Putin has taken Trump’s demands for a quick ceasefire, and the Ukrainian forces have designed a spectacular drone attack on Russian troops. The end of the war seems to be nowhere to be seen. “I’m extremely disappointed,” Trump said on May 28th.

What will he do next?

Trump is threatening sanctions against Russia, but he clearly doesn’t want to impose them. He also suggests that the US might just leave, leaving the conflict to grasp two fighting parties and Europeans.

He faces similar calculations on tariffs, where he delayed or reduced his most widespread threat to China and elsewhere, which appear to rattle the stock market. He is following his deadline for trading partners to either make a deal on July 8th or suffer the toughest tariffs in nearly a century?

And in Gaza, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a longtime ally, resisted the administration’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire. “Let’s get through that, go back to peace and stop killing people,” Trump vowed during his 2024 campaign. However, the region has been plagued by confusion and violence over the distribution of food aid recently.

A familiar problem for the president

Trump is not the first president to find himself hampered by the frustration of the balance of governance and power.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was very furious at the Supreme Court decision to cover his new contract in 1937, and he proposed cramming the court with additional, perhaps friendly judiciary. The High Court began to welcome his initiative more, but the idea went nowhere.

More than half a century later, Bill Clinton adopted a strategy of cooperation with new Republican House Speaker Newt Ginrich when Democrats lost control of Congress in the 1994 midterm elections. The policy, known as “triangulation,” has discouraged liberal Democrats, but has led to a balanced budget with welfare reform.

After a democratic set-off in the midterm of 2014, Barack Obama said he still has the ability to deploy “pen and phone” — meaning signing executive action and energizing external allies.

Trump enjoys considerable political assets, including a downsizing of Democratic leadership and Congressional Republican loyalty.

It is being tested by the fight over a bill known as settlement. The vast measure will expand and expand tax cuts from Trump’s first term, adding billions of dollars for border security, and cutting billions of dollars from Medicaid and Clean Energy tax credits.

And, an updated estimate by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said it would increase national debt by budgeting $2.4 trillion over a decade.

In previous showdowns, Trump won in Congress. This is because GOP members see that if the unfortunate president supports a major challenger against them, they are at risk of their re-election. He is lobbying the bill as “arguably the most important legislation that signs the history of our country.”

But Musk, who led Trump’s Doge budget cut initiative until May 27, has been heavier on the other side, warning that the law will generate “overwhelmingly unsustainable debt.” His warnings have been cited by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and a handful of other GOP senators who have been involved in the bill’s impact on the federal deficit.

The tech billionaire posted his own election threat to X. Social media platforms are also political assets. Not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars that the world’s wealthiest people have spent in political campaigns in the past.

“Next November,” he proposed, “We will fire all the politicians who betray the American people.”

At least 11 people have been killed and more than 30 have been injured after crowds were crushed outside a cricket stadium in Karnataka, South India, authorities said.

The crash happened when tens of thousands of cricket fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru city to celebrate the winner of the Indian Premier League, the world’s most popular T20 cricket tournament.

Karnataka Prime Minister Siddharamaia said the crowds had tried to take part in the celebration by destroying one of the stadium’s gates.

Eleven people have been killed and 33 others have been injured, adding that Siddharamaiah has only used one name, most of the injured are stable and are being treated at the hospital.

“At the time of the celebration, this unfortunate event should not happen. We are saddened by this,” he told reporters. “No one expected this crowd.”

Cricket fans came out on Tuesday to celebrate Bengaluru’s first Indian Premier League title victory. The team gave fans a free pass for the event through the website, urging them to follow guidelines set by police and authorities.

The statement’s team said it was “deeply suffering.”

Local TV news channels saw some people reach the ground, taking paramedics to the ambulances, and celebrations continued in the stadium.

Karnataka’s deputy prime minister, Dk Shivakumar, told reporters, “The crowd is very out of control.”

The Indian Cricket Committee, which organizes the IPL, issues a statement in a statement called “Unhappiness.”

“This is the negative aspect of popularity. People are obsessed with cricketers. The organizers should have planned it better,” said Devajit Saikia of BCCI.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “heart-grabbing” and said his thoughts were “with all those who have lost their loved ones.”

Stampedes have happened before in India, where large crowds gather. In January, at least 30 people were killed as tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to bathe in the sacred river during the Mahakumbh Festival, the world’s largest religious gathering.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
