Skygators can look to the horizon This week you can get a glimpse of the full moon around its peak lighting.

According to Earthsky, this month’s full moon is also known as the Buck Moon, and will be maximized at around 4:37pm on Thursdays. That’s what the old farmer yearbook says is that at a time when the moon was below the horizon for North Americans a few hours after sunset, the moon was below the horizon for North Americans.

According to NASA, Venus, Jupiter and Mars are not visible during the full moon, but Venus, Jupiter and Mars appear in the night sky towards the end of the moon.

On July 21st and 22nd, Venus and Jupiter will be visible on the horizon before sunrise. According to Earthsky, the planets appear alongside clusters of stars in the Pleiades and Hyades and the star Aldebaran. The Stargazers need to plan to wake up early to see the seductive morning scene.

The following week, Mars will appear right next door. According to NASA, the crescent moon on July 28th will be held on July 28th and will be displayed during the first hour or two after sunset.

Solar Eclipse of the Moon and Sun in 2025

As summer ends, two solar eclipse events appear in the sky.

According to date and time, on September 7th and 8th, a total lunar eclipse will be visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, eastern South America, Alaska and parts of Antarctica.

A moon solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly into the shadow of the Earth, with three celestial objects (the sun, the earth, and the moon) lined up. This will make the moon look dark or dark.

When tragedy falls into the news – natural disasters, plane crashes, fires – parents respond by responding naturally by thinking about what will happen to their children. And the children turn to worry about what will happen to them.

The flash flood that killed more than 100 people last week along the Guadalupe River in central Texas, bringing a family nightmare to life, including dozens of campers and counselors at Camp Mystic. Every summer, the children have their parents bid farewell to the camp. Both sides are filled with anxiety about the meaning of children leaving their homes and their families.

These normal concerns are amplified by news from Texas, so what should parents and children do?

Children planning to camp should go camping, even if they find it difficult, said Dr. Gale Salz, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Weil Cornell Medical College’s New York Presbyterian Hospital. “If we don’t act in anxious, it tends to limit us even more and actually make us more anxious.”

Though fear is understandable, it is important to recognize when it is irrational and unnecessary limitations. The devastation at Camp Mystic is particularly painful as summer camps are places people have chosen to go to and often retain their favorite memories.

The nature of overnight camping removes the sense of control that many parents feel when their children are at home. “It’s a transition to something new and different. It evokes separation anxiety for both parents and children, even for older children,” Salz said.

Looking at the tragedy of unfolding on this scale, it can trigger what Saltz calls “irrational and catastrophic fear” and a deep feeling of helplessness.

No matter how unprecedented the incident may be, hearing it makes you feel like it’s likely to happen again. “It’s important to remember that it’s oddly rare.”

The fatal flood occurred after drought conditions and heavy rain. This is another example of extreme weather events that are becoming more frequent amid rising global temperatures.

“It adds this element of helplessness, the same kind of helplessness that a lot of people feel about guns and school shootings,” Salz said. “And the feeling of being stuck increases the feeling of uncontrolled, painful and helplessness.”

Bob Ditter, a clinical social worker at the American Camp Association, said Camp Mystic Alumni’s story has been around for nearly 100 years and reflects where people are safe and feel a strong sense of belonging.

“The reason this resonates with so many people is that the fairies of driving us out of our safe and happy spaces are unimaginable,” he said.

Dr. Leslie Paris, an associate professor at the University of British Columbia who studies childhood in America, said the camp has historically been treated as a safe haven for crime and illness. They also encourage tradition and nostalgia, attracting generations of parents. “I want to provide similar opportunities to my children.”

Going to camp was never completely safe. Fatal owner deaths, illness outbreaks, and lightning strikes have been happening for generations, but have driven out campers so widely or often.

“The scale of the tragedy at Camp Mystic is particularly important,” Paris said. “I think we’re collectively shocked because these are so deeply broken down and fundamentally wrong.”

Parents and caregivers must acknowledge their fears, but they must resist the temptation to avoid anxiety and discomfort. They can do due diligence on safety, such as asking camps about emergency plans and how to communicate with children.

But they need to accept that there is always some degree of uncertainty. Parents who acknowledge and tolerate uncertainty as a model for children, Salz said.

“You’re working as a family. If you can’t tolerate any risks at all, there are millions of things in life,” Salz said. “You can’t cross the street, you can’t fly to a holiday. Everything has a slight (of uncertainty), so it’s important to resilience, experience, manage new tasks, and make it acceptable.”

For parents with uneasy children, Salz suggests removing news from family discussions and letters to camp.

“There’s no reason why kids in a Vermont camp are hearing about this camp in Texas,” she said. “In the pre-internet era when camps were around, they didn’t have it.”

Still, the words spread. And when it does, “The most important thing is to point out how unusual it is to tell them that they can absolutely talk to you about it,” Salz said. “They can ask you any questions. You may not know the answer, but you try to find them for them.”

“Parents said they need to emphasize that there is a difference in what happened to someone else that resonates with us, but that is a difference in what hasn’t happened to us,” a Ditter from the American Camp Association said.

Salz emphasizes that neither parents nor children should be immersed in the news.

“I advise parents who have learned about stories to avoid continuing to watch news stories over and over again,” she said. “There’s no profit, but there’s a repetitive trigger.”

Even if they feel uncomfortable, children with mild anxiety disorders, mood issues, or separation anxiety still benefit from taking risks and developing away from the normal home routine.

But sleepway camps may not be the case for everyone, including children who have experienced panic, mood disorders, phobia, or recent tragedy or trauma.

“If you send them to places they can’t get medical treatment, you could do harm to them,” Salz said.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has cancelled future meetings of preventive healthcare expert advisors, raising questions about the future of long-standing non-political advisory groups.

A HHS spokesperson confirmed with CNN that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which has set up recommendations for cancer screening, STI testing and other preventive care, will not meet on the previously scheduled Thursday.

On Monday afternoon, a notice was sent that the office of HHS Executive Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had postponed its July meeting.

“Now, HHS looks forward to engaging with the task force to promote the health and well-being of the American people,” the notification continued.

But cancellations also arrive when Kennedy restructures the health agency and pushes them to erase what he calls long-standing healthcare industry impacts on policy. Kennedy rejected the Center for the US 17 Disease Control and Prevention Vaccine Advisory Committee last month, and appointed eight new picks two days later to guide the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Several new members have questioned the safety of the vaccine. The two have testified in court against vaccine manufacturers.

“Among those associated with the task force that it is about to be rejected, as ACIP did, “There is an extraordinary concern,” said someone familiar with the meeting.

Kennedy’s control over the task force was recently solidified by the US Supreme Court. Last month, in a case that challenged the general provisions of the Affordable Care Act, the judge supported the constitutionality of a task force that recommends preventive health services that insurers must cover at a non-cost basis. Both the Biden and Trump administrations have argued that the task force is properly set up. Therefore, the recommendation should be supported as the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services was able to name and fire that member.

The 16-member task force was established in 1984 and provides recommendations on preventive services such as cancer, various disorders and counseling. This helps Americans become aware of illnesses and conditions early when treatment can be easier and cheaper. Affordable Care Act requires that these services be provided free of charge to patients.

Consumer advocates supported the Supreme Court’s decision, but they warned that Kennedy would give more power than recommendations for preventive care.

“The big point here is that the Task Force recommendations are binding, as intended by the ACA drafters,” University of Michigan law professor Nicholas Bagley posted on X last month. “But this scheme is constitutional because Sec Kennedy has almost complete control over the task force recommendations. Mixed bags!”

The agenda for Thursday’s meeting was to include discussions on recommendations for “preventing cardiovascular disease in adults for healthy diet, physical activity, and/or weight loss.” This focuses on “behavioral counseling interventions.” panel Usually, they could meet in person three times a year, and they met in person on Thursdays. Healthy behaviors such as nutritious diet and strength training are important to live longer, but loneliness and social isolation are also important factors in getting older and enjoying them, says Dr. Kelly Burnnight, a California-based gerontologist.

“They’re also known as the geriatric medicine department,” said Dr. John Batis, associate professor of geriatric medicine at the School of Global Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Geriatricians are doctors focused on care for the elderly, and geronologists are studying aging studies from biological and social and psychological perspectives, Burnite said.

There are four factors that Burnight considers most important to bring out the most joy from a longer, healthier year. It’s about growing, connecting, adapting, and giving. And fortunately, she says she can resolve your inner strength to improve your connection and sense of purpose so that you can exercise every day to keep your body healthy.

It’s never too early or too late to start creating a life that you enjoy.

If you haven’t retired yet, I recommend starting to think about what your day will look like when you quit your job, Batsis said.

“A retirement cliff, so to speak, is extremely difficult for individuals who work for life,” he added.

Suddenly, you can feel like you’re losing everything. A sense of purpose, how to fill your days and who to connect with — when you don’t get into work every day, especially if you don’t have a plan. Instead of making such a dramatic change, Batsis advises people to start taking on the hobbies and activities they want to do while you are still working.

If you’re already retired, you can find opportunities to build something new that you love, Burnight said. If you’re always looking to publish your book, 80 isn’t too old to start writing. In fact, you may have more time than you can invest in your passion, she said.

“It’s never too late at all. In fact, it’s the perfect time to really lean and redefine it,” said Burnight, author of the upcoming book, “Joyspan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life.”

Daily Crossword Puzzles or Sudoku are a good way to attract your brain, but it’s important to do the difficult things to keep cognitively sharp and increase the fun of your age, Burning said.

“New experiences activate neuroplasticity… that’s the ability of our brains to continue growing,” she said. “If you do the same thing you always did, you’re not really setting yourself up for continuous growth.”

One of Batsis patients began playing golf after he retired, but he also began playing the instrumental guitar. That’s not something he’d done before, and he didn’t think of himself as musically leaning, but his activities opened up a whole new world for him, Batsis said.

Now, the patient will play the guitar and attend local concerts he may not be, he added.

Batsis recommends finding hobbies that will keep you physically active. The less you move, the weaker you become, so he said it helps you make more use of activities as you get older.

But the key is to find what you enjoy. It’s not about pushing yourself into activities you think you should do at your age, Batsis said. If you didn’t like the book, you probably wouldn’t be motivated to become a retired reader, he added.

“Individuals need to find something of interest, because the more interesting they are, the more willing they are willing to engage in such activities,” Batis said.

For caregivers, Barnight warns against doing what you can for yourself for your loved one. This depends on your skill set and physical limitations. Doing challenging things is important and helpful, she said.

Once a month, Parker meets with the group she calls “Young” and plays Canasta.

“Young” is a group of women in their 60s whom they met through their stepdaughter. They are much younger than her, but Parker said it was worth it that she has a diverse group of friends. That’s especially true as she has lived long lives in other close connections with her husband, she said.

“Like the way we diversify our financial portfolio, socially we want to have friends of different ages, friends from your neighborhood, friends from past,” she said.

If you want to connect with more people in the past, Barnight encourages you to use social media to reach out to people who may have lost contact over the years. She said people are usually happy to hear from old friends.

Even small interactions at neighbors and coffee shops often lead to more meaningful relationships, she said.

Her most important advice is to become a friend, Barnite said. Loneliness is dangerous to longevity, so investing in relationships is important.

“You need to call to make plans, remember your birthday, sit by someone’s hospital bed, or drive to chemo,” she said.

Find joy and purpose

Parker has a lot of joy in the 90s, but it’s not that she came without the need to adapt, she said.

She had to give up tennis years ago, but she missed it, but now she has to use her walkers to roam around from time to time, she said. However, these changes have not prevented her from laughing with her family, spending time in the garden, or even being at a local parade on her July 4th holiday.

“We have constantly changing circumstances and getting older brings a lot of challenges,” Burnite said. “Not only are they denying it or saying, ‘Oh, my life is not great right now, my life is not great,’ but people who are often older are people who are adapted and can even embrace or accept change. ”

“The way you adapt is to realize that it’s not wrong to have something difficult. That’s how you deal with that tough,” she said.

Research suggests how you think about aging can have a big impact on how you actually get older, she said.

“People who believe that aging is a period of continuous growth live seven years longer than those who think, ‘Oh, I’m getting older, I’m going to retire and knit with women,'” Bernieate said. Of course, unless you enjoy knitting or want to pick it up as a new hobby.

Instead, she recommends bringing your attention to everything you have to give. Evidence also suggests that it reports a higher level of pleasure, purpose and lifespan, Burning said.

Does it sound like a lot to do everything at once? Don’t worry. You can start small.

Maybe it’s delivering lemons from your tree to a friend or offering to see the young children of your neighbors while they run errands, she said. Creating art, planting a garden, and calling someone who is sick is even giving, Burnight said.

“The purpose is small, it’s everyday, it’s a decision,” she said. “Well, today I’m going to use the fact that I’m alive, and how am I going to use the fact that I have something to give?” ”

Thousands of millions of fly flies falling from airplanes may sound like a horrifying nightmare, but experts say such a flock could be the livestock industry’s best defense against the carnivorous threat poised to invade the US southwestern border.

New World Screwworm Outbreaks – The form of a species of fly larvae known to nest and eat slowly in the wounds of warm-blooded animals has spread across Central America since early 2023, with invasions recorded in Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and El Salvador. Most Central America countries have not seen an outbreak in 20 years.

The fly reached southern Mexico in November, causing concern among US agricultural industry officials, causing the closure of cattle, horse and bison trading ports in several border areas.

It was not the first time the US had to fight these invasive bugs. The country largely eradicated New World screwworm populations by breeding sterile male species in the 1960s and 1970s, dispersing them from planes and mating with wild female fly.

The strategy essentially fights flies with flies – slowly degrades insect populations by preventing more eggs from laying. Now, as insects continue to spread, Northern officials hope that the approach will work again.

But today, only one facility in Panama breeds New World screwworms sterilized for dispersion, and according to a June 17 letter from 80 US lawmakers, hundreds of millions of sterile flies are needed to slow the outbreak.

The next day, the USDA announced plans to open a “Fly Factory” in a town that has not yet been decided near the Texas-Mexico border. However, the process of killing a screw worm may not be quick.

New World Screwworms are parasitic larvae of metallic blue blowfly A species called Cochliomyia hominivorax. Dr. Philip Kaufman, professor and director of the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University, unlike all other blowflies native to the Western Hemisphere, New World Screwworms feed the meat of live animals rather than dead animals.

Carnivorous maggots go for most warm-blooded animals, including horses and cows.
They are also known to infect household pets and humans in rare cases, Kaufman said.

“After mating, the female fly finds a living host, lands on the wound, lays up to 200-300 eggs,” Kaufmann explained. “After 12-24 hours, all those eggs will hatch and soon begin to burrow into the animal’s tissue, creating a very large wound.”

After the larvae eat tissue with sharp mouth hooks for several days, they fall to the ground and appear later, according to Thomas Lansford, the Associate Executive Director and Assistant State Veterinarian of the Texas Animal Health Board.

Since the outbreak began in 2023, statistics registered with the Panama -United States Commission Committee have reported invasions of over 35,000 New World Screwworms, according to statistics listed in the Eradication and Prevention Committee on the Livestock (COPEG) website. In such cases, cattle account for about 83% of the affected animal species.

Treatment of invaded cows often includes washing, preservative treatment and wound covering, Lansford said.

If left untreated, the fly will kill the animal within a week or two, spreading it to others, pose a threat to the rancher’s livelihood.

“They’re the first to be able to live in,” said Stephen Diebel, rancher and first vice president of the Texas and Southwestern Cow Razors Association. “We know the incredible economic impacts that intrusions cause.”

According to Diebel, there are no known vaccinations or effective repellent methods to prevent invasion. Instead, he recommended that during warm months, ranchers should avoid branding, tagging and other procedures that create potential entry points for domesticated screwworms. Tropical flies are less active in the winter.

While local cattle trade is considered to be the main way fly populations move, Diebel says invasions can also affect wildlife such as deer, birds and rodents, making monitoring of parasite spread even more challenging.

Just as the caterpillar enters coco before it becomes a butterfly, the new world’s screwworm becomes a black pill-sized tobacco before it appears as an adult fly, Kaufman explained.

According to the USDA, in sterile fly production facilities, co receives high-energy gamma rays that destroy male DNA, causing damage to sex chromosomes. The result: helpless adult fly to lay eggs that are not immersed in female companions.

According to the USDA, the amount of radiation exposed to male fly is not poses a danger to animals or humans. However, women mate only once with a short 20-day life expectancy when the population is exposed to infertile men, so depending on the size of their departure, the population disappears over a few months or years.

It is unclear how dispersion will work in the US if it occurs, but Kaufman said adult flies are usually loaded into temperature-controlled vessels and dropped from the plane. But you don’t need to panic about flydrops coming to your nearby suburbs, he said – they are usually not interested in urban environments, so they target sparsely populated rural areas.

The Copeg facility produces about 100 million sterile flies each week and is dispersed in the air.

Currently, according to Copeg’s website, dispersal efforts are focused across Mexico’s southern region and Central America.

The new US dispersed facility is located at Moore Air Force Base in Hidalgo County, Texas, and is expected to cost $8.5 million per release. The location and price tag of the production facility, or the “fly factory” itself, have not been revealed, but lawmakers estimate it will cost around $300 million.

In addition to the new sterilized fly facility, the USDA has also announced a $21 million plan to renovate an old Mexican fly factory by the end of 2025.

The plan is expensive, but it’s a price worth paying to save the billion-dollar livestock industry, Diebel said.

“It’s a simple trade-off to understand that these fly offset $300 million in economic impacts,” Diebel said.

Shortly after its June 18th announcement, the USDA shared plans to begin reopening livestock trading ports in Arizona, Texas and New Mexico, which were closed last year, citing surveillance across Mexico and dispersing sterile fly.

Copeg did not immediately respond to a request for comment on details regarding current progress in the US distributed initiative.
