University threatened with funding cuts based on proposed plans to tackle Australia’s anti-Semitism

Australian universities could lose funds if they are not determined to be sufficient to address anti-Semitic hate crimes, according to new measures proposed by the country’s first anti-Semitic envoy.

Gillian Segal was appointed to the role a year ago, in response to the surge in reports of attacks on Australian Jewish sites and property following Israel’s invasion of Gaza, and was tasked with fighting the country’s anti-Semitism.

Alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday, Segal released his nine-month report, proposing strong measures that include reviewing visa applicants for university funding threats and extremist views.

“This plan is not about special treatment of one community, it’s about restoring equal treatment,” Segal says. “It’s about ensuring that all of Australia can live, work, learn and thrive in this country, regardless of background or belief.”

Like the US, Australian campuses were once a hub for Palestinian protests led by students who pitched tents calling for action to stop Israeli attacks.

Campus protests have declined after restrictions were tightened and some protesters were threatened with expulsion. This is a move that activists have been accused of assaulting free speech.

Anti-Semitism is “infiltrated and normalized” in academia and university courses and on campus, and is subject to annual reports assessing its effectiveness in the fight against anti-Semitism.

University of Australia CEO Luke Sheehee said the organization is working “constructively” with envoys, and its members will “consider the recommendations.”

“Academic freedom and freedom of expression are central to the university’s mission, but they must be held accountable and never exercised as cover for hatred and harassment,” he said in a statement.

Anti-Semitist attacks in Australia surged 300% in the year after Israel’s invasion of Gaza in October 2023.

In the past week alone, the doors of the synagogue have been burning in Melbourne, and 20 residents have forced them to escape from the after exit as nearby protesters stormed an Israeli-owned restaurant using Israeli military initials.

A man is facing arson charges for a synagogue attack, and three people were charged on Tuesday with attacks, offray, rioting actions and detective victimization for restaurant attacks.

On July 6th, 2025, you will pass the burnt front door of the East Melbourne Synagogue in Melbourne.

The Australian Jewish Executive Council, once led by Segal and affiliated with hundreds of Jewish community groups, said the release of the report “cannot be made more timely given the recent horrifying events in Melbourne.”

However, Australia’s Jewish Council, opposed to Israel’s war in Gaza, has expressed concern about Segal’s plan, saying it has overtones from President Donald Trump’s attempt to use the funds as a means of controlling the agency.

In a statement, the council criticized the plan’s “emphasis on oversight, censorship, and punitive control over cultural and educational funds,” adding that it was “a step straight from Trump’s authoritarian playbook.”

Max Kaiser, executive officer of the group, said: “All responses that treat anti-Semitism as exceptions while ignoring Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, and other forms of hatred are destined to fail.”

Education, immigration, art

The envoy’s 20-page plan includes sweeping recommendations covering schools, immigration, the media, police and public awareness campaigns.

Segal hopes that the Holocaust and anti-Semitistic education will be burned into the national curriculum “as a major case study of where unidentified anti-Semitism can lead.”

Arts organizations can be subject to the same restrictions as universities and are threatened with withdrawing public funds if they are found to have engaged or promoted anti-Semitism.

“While freedom of expression, in particular artistic expression, is essential and should be protected for cultural richness, the funds provided by Australian taxpayers should not be used to promote division or spread false and distorted narratives,” the report states.

Under the recommendation, strict immigration screenings oust people with anti-Semitic views, and immigration law allows authorities to cancel visas for anti-Semitic conduct.

Media will be monitored to “encourage accurate, fair and responsible reporting” and to “avoid acceptance of false or distorted stories,” the report added.

At a press conference Thursday, Albanese pointed to an interview with protesters about the country’s national broadcaster, saying that the interviewees tried to justify the Melbourne restaurant attack.

“There’s absolutely no justification for that,” he said. “The idea that somehow the cause of justice for Palestinians is progressing through such actions is not only paranoid, but destructive, and is not in line with the way you raise your opinion in respectfulness to democracy,” he said.

Synagogue members will retrieve items from the Adass Israel Synagogue on December 6, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.

Asked whether the country has become more tolerant of different views and perhaps lost its ability to debate, Albanese pointed to social media.

“I think it has an impact on social media. In social media, algorithms work to enhance people’s views,” he said. “They strengthen their opinions and push people to the extreme, whether on the extreme left or the extreme right. Australians want a country at the centre.”

His comments were called by X’s AI chatbot Grok to spread the anti-Semitism ratio that the company said was “working actively to get rid of.”

Regarding anti-Semitic views, Albanese said, “Social media has a social responsibility and needs to be held to explain.”

When asked whether anti-Israel protests promote anti-Semitic attacks, the prime minister said that people should be able to express their views without resorting to hatred.

“In Israel itself, as a democracy, we should be able to protest the actions of our government, and in democracy, we should be able to express your views on events overseas in Australia,” he said. “The places where the lines cross are crossed are criticised and identified as they happen to be Jews.”

Trump Vice Dan Scabino Unloaded DJT Stocks Before Customs Announcement

The documents reveal that Donald Trump’s deputy White House chief of staff, Dan Scabino, sold up to $5 million worth of Trump media stock just before the president announced tariffs in April.

Dan Scavino has been in the process of selling up to $5 million worth of Trump Media stock after joining President Donald Trump’s administration in January as vice-Chief of Staff.

However, according to a disclosure report obtained by USA Today, Trump’s advisors chose April 1 the day before Trump announced he would make the sale to make the sale.

After the market closed on April 2nd, Trump announced tariffs on imports from countries around the world. The market plunged into the news, falling 12% by April 9, when Trump suspended tariffs. Trump’s media stock has also dropped by 11%.

The disclosure declaration also shows that Sergio Gaul, director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, sold Trump Media Securities for between $15,001 and $50,000 on March 27, just days before the tariffs were announced.

White House Taylor Rogers responded to questions about the timing of the sale, saying “Senior White House staff, including Associate Director Scabino and PPO Director GOR, are fully compliant with the enforcement department’s ethics rules, participate in the required ethics summary, and comply with profit disputes and financial reporting obligations.”

After Trump’s announcement about what he called “liberation day,” there was a widespread market sale that lasted until April 9, when tariffs were suspended. Since then, the market has rebounded, recovering these losses and hitting record highs. However, Trump Media stocks are still falling from the price of $20.26 per share on April 1st. The shares closed on July 8th at $19.25 per share.

The Congressional Knowledge or Stock Trading Suspension Act of 2012 prohibits federal and Congress officials from trading securities based on non-public information. Authorities must disclose trading activities when buying and selling securities worth more than $1,000.

“We must look at stock transactions by senior White House staff over the period just before the announcement of the release date,” said Virginia Kanter, lead lawyer for Defenders Action, a group co-founded by former Obama Ethics official Norman Eisen.

“The facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction determine whether an insider trading investigation is valuable,” said Kanter, former White House deputy lawyer for President Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

USA Today found no evidence that Scavino or Gor had prior knowledge of the tariff announcement. But ethics experts say trade approaches a major news event from the White House, they raise ethical issues and concerns about fraud.

“White House officials are supposed to avoid even the emergence of conflicts of interest, but owning or selling shares in the incumbent president’s media company is the exact opposite,” said Cynthia Brown, senior citizen ethics advisor for responsibility and ethics, a progressive Watchdog nonprofit.

Usually, a well-timed trade allows individuals to reduce losses and reinvest their revenues with less risky investments.

Ethics experts have long advocated stricter rules for stock trading by government officials. This includes requirements for placing holdings in blind trusts and allowing only highly diverse index funds to be held.

Because of their position, officials are always aware of private information, but experts say it is difficult to prove whether that knowledge will inform the movement of the transaction.

The Government Ethics spokesman’s Office said the office could not comment specifically on transactions by Scabino, GOR or other officials.

“Oge will issue ethics disclosures, related documents and website surveillance responses as soon as possible,” said spokesman Patrick Shepherd.

With the sale of Scavino and Gor, three Trump administration officials sold from the president’s social media company, selling just before the announcement of tariffs caused a broader stock market sale.

Attorney General Pam Bondy disclosed a sale of up to $5 million on Trump Media on April 2. After the market closed that day, a tariff announcement was made.

Propublica first reported the sale in May. The Department of Justice did not respond to requests for comment from multiple media outlets at the time.

In Bondi’s case, she was obliged to sell her shares within 90 days of confirmation by the Senate, subject to the terms of the ethics agreement with the Government Ethics Bureau.

Financial disclosures by these officials also confirmed that the president brought people into his administration, where he worked for his publicly listed company. For example, Scavino worked as a consultant for the company from 2021 to January 2025 and received a consulting fee of $860,000.

“These disclosures show that the investments of Trump’s senior advisers are tied to his superior’s media company,” says Brown, a civic ethics advisor for responsibility and ethics.

“It may not be forbidden by law, but coupled with the extent to which Trump’s media is integrated into the administration’s agenda, I ask the question of whether this is another mechanism for the president and his advisors to personally benefit financially from the government’s agenda,” Brown said.

The president himself has billions in the stock market through his cryptocurrency venture and social media company Truth Social. Bloomberg News reported in May that the president’s net worth more than doubled since reelection to about $5.4 billion.

His recent financial disclosures revealed that he has won millions of crypto venture ventures and earned royalties from selling Bibles and watches.

FIFA Club World Cup: PSG slashes Real Madrid 4-0 to enter the final

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final will be set after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals at MetLife Stadium.

Two goals from Spanish midfielder Fabian Lewis and the first half of the goals from Osmane Dembele put Parisian in the driver’s seat early on.

And in the final minutes of the game, Gonzalo Ramos added a quarter to place the icing on a simmering hot PSG cake that reached 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) in New Jersey.

PSG will face Chelsea in the final on Sunday after the Premier League side defeated Brazil’s Fulminence in Tuesday’s semi-finals.

He won the UEFA Champions League title in May – Premier Club Competition in European Football – PSG has the chance to win 12 months by becoming a world champion.

After Wednesday’s victory, PSG manager Luis Enrique emphasized how important this run to this final is for everyone connected to the club.

“For the Parisians, all our supporters, the whole club, it’s a very special moment for us,” the Spaniard said. “I think we did a really good job and we played a great game.

“We’re happy, we’re in the finals, and it’s been an incredible season. We want to win this final. Everyone saw the stifling heat. I think it had an impact on both teams, but we continued playing and fighting.

Ramos scored PSG's fourth goal against Real Madrid, paying tribute to his former Portuguese teammate, Diogo Jota.

In the semi-finals of PSG and Real Madrid, two heavyweights from European football face to face, with spots in the Club World Cup finals.

The dominant topic was how French star Killian Mbappe played against his previous club for the first time.

But for the 77,542 fans present, despite all the offensive talent on display at MetLife Stadium, it was a mistake by the Real Madrid defender in the opening minutes and proved crucial.

6 minutes Raul Asensio – fill for a hanging Dean Huissen – too long for the ball to clear in his own penalty area, allowing Dembele to steal and take ownership. After Dembele was defeated by real goalkeeper Thibaud Kourdois, referee Simon Marciniac returned home in comfort as the ball fell on Lewis’s foot.

Things quickly got worse and worse white Just three minutes later, Antonio Rudiger accidentally transferred the ball, giving Dembele enough time to steal it, and sprinting clears past the rifle without beating the defender.

Despite having a two-goal lead, PSG did not give up in the 24th minute. Parisian After the trademark sharp passing moves have sweeped through the real team, there is another goal, and Achraf Hakimi has become the easiest task to set up Ruiz for his second game.

Real grew into the game and created a unique opportunity, but the offensive talent Alei failed to break through the PSG defense, which lost two of the key contributors of Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez who showed red cards in the quarter finals.

In the end, it was PSG that concluded a fast counterattack by Ramos. His celebration mimicked him playing video games. This is a homage to former Portuguese teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident last week.

PSG maintains the electric form that was displayed at the Club World Cup during the Champions League-winning campaign, making it seem like the best team at some distance.

All of the team’s final six victories came without acknowledging goals, Dembele’s goal was his 35th time of the season, with his previous high of the year at 14.

Currently, PSG will close out its special season with another silverware in the final against Chelsea at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

PSG fans were far ahead within MetLife Stadium by their Real Madrid counterparts, but Paris supporters remained vocal in their support.

“Playing in the Finals is a source of pride,” said PSG midfielder Senny Mile. “You can’t play one thing every day, so we’re going to really enjoy it.

“We qualified with a big win. We are very pleased with it. We take time to enjoy it, but we’re not finished yet, so we’ll prepare for the final. We’re really happy to be able to participate in this final once again.”

The result marked the end of the era when Madrid legend Luka Modric played the club’s final game and closed the chapter boasting the trophy of Croatian stars in the Spanish capital.

Modrić is the most decorated player at the Spanish club after making 597 appearances, featuring 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles. He also won a spell at the 2018 Barondoor at the club.

The 39-year-old continues his playing career by signing Italian giant AC Milan.

“This is not a desirable ending. It’s a bitter ending, but he’s not reminiscent of other great games, not today’s games,” said real manager Xabi Alonso afterwards. “He is a legend of world football and Real Madrid.”

The attack on the eternal ship by the Houthi rebels killed at least four people, and many “tooks”

Reuters

Rescuers pulled six crew members from the Red Sea after Houthi extremists attacked this week and sunk a second ship, but the fate of another 15 was unknown after a group lined up in Iran said they held some of the crew.

Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack that maritime officials say they killed four of the 25 people on the Eternal C before the rest abandoned the cargo ship. Sources from the security company involved in the rescue operation said Eternity C had dropped Wednesday morning after the previous two days of attacks.

Six rescued seafarers spent more than 24 hours in the water, those companies said.

Yemen’s US mission accused Houthis of luring many of the surviving crews from the eternal C, calling for immediate and unconditional safe release.

“The Yemeni Navy responded to rescue many ship crews, provide medical care and transport them to safe locations,” a military spokesman for the group said at a television address.

Houthis released a video in which they said they portrayed an eternal attack. It included a sound of a Yemeni Navy’s call for crews to evacuate for rescue, indicating an explosion on the ship before it sinks. Reuters were unable to independently verify the audio or ship location.

Houthis also claims responsibility for a similar attack on Sunday, targeting another ship, the magical sea. All the crew from the magical sea were rescued before sinking.

The strike on the two ships revived a campaign by fighter jets deployed in Iran that attacked more than 100 ships from November 2023 to December 2024, calling them solidarity with the Palestinians. In May, the US announced a surprising deal with Houthis, agreeing to halt the bombing campaign against them in exchange for the end of the attack, but Houthis said the deal did not include Israeli savings.

Large shipping industry associations, including International Maritime Transport and BIMCO, denounced the fatal operations and called for the region’s robust maritime security through a joint statement on Wednesday.

“These vessels are being attacked with merciless ignorance of the lives of innocent civilian sailors,” they said.

“This tragedy reveals the need for the nation to maintain robust support in protecting maritime and important sea lines.”

The crew is said to have come from Etern C, a cargo ship found in the sea during rescue operations off Yemen in the handout, released on July 9, 2025.

The Eternal C and the Magical Sea both flew Liberian flags and were run by Greek companies. Some of the sister ships of each broader fleet had called Israeli ports over the past year, shipment data analysis showed.

“We will continue to search for the remaining crew until the last light,” said an official at Diaplous, a Greece-based maritime risk management company.

The EU volunteered for a naval mission to protect transport in the Red Sea, confirming in a statement that six people have been pulled out of the sea.

The Red Sea, passing through Yemen’s coast, has long been a key waterway for world oil and commodities, but since the start of the Houthi attack, traffic has been dropping sharply.

Data from Maritime Data Group Lloyd’s List Intelligence showed that 30 vessels were counted on July 6th and July 1st on July 8th, counting daily sailings through the narrow Bab Almandav Strait, located at the southern tip of the Red Sea and the gateway to the Gulf of Aden.

Oil prices rose on Wednesday, continuing to their highest level since June 23rd. This has maintained its highest level due to recent attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

Smoke feathers rise from what is said to be MV Magic Seas, a Greek-operated bulk carrier packed with Liberia. This screen grab is taken from handout video released on July 8, 2025.

Eternity C was first attacked Monday afternoon after sea drones and rocket-propelled rena shots fired from a speedboat due to suspicions of Houthi extremists, maritime security sources said. The lifeship was destroyed during the attack. By Tuesday morning, the ship was on a list with a drift.

Two security sources told Reuters that the ship was attacked with seedrones again on Tuesday, forcing the crew and armed guards to abandon it. Houthis remained on the boat until early Wednesday, one source said.

Skiff was in the area as rescue operations were underway.

The crew consisted of 21 Filipinos and one Russian. Three armed guards also boarded, including a Greek and one Indian.

Space Management, the operator of the vessel, has not responded to requests for confirmation of casualties or injuries. If confirmed, the four reported deaths are the first deaths since June 2024 from attacks on transport in the Red Sea.

Sources say Greece is in talks with Saudi Arabia, the region’s leading player.

The assassination attempt changed politics with Trump a year ago

0

play

  • All modern presidents target assassins, but none of the failed attempts resonate with more.
  • Trump’s response in Butler, Pennsylvania, may have fueled his big Election Day benefits among male voters.
  • “It was God’s hand,” Trump said of his survival. “He was there.”

What will become legendary?

The list is an assassination attempt that grazes the ears of former and nutritional presidents, prompting a flash of rebellion that spits out his instantly symbolic fist.

A year ago, Donald Trump’s shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was an extraordinary news story of the moment, an event that echoed over him and the American landscape.

Of course, violence is nothing new to national politics. Abraham Lincoln and James Garfield were assassinated in the 19th century, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy were assassinated in the office in the 20th century, and William McKinley and John F. Kennedy were assassinated in the 20th century.

Ronald Reagan was seriously injured. Over the course of 17 days, Gerald Ford faced two separate attempts by a woman with a gun.

However, the failed attempts and unforatile attempts have not attracted much continued impact and attention as they were filmed on July 13, 2024.

Trump’s response helped him win a campaign that began his path. He has grown his height with prominent figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, not to mention the number of male voters. After he returned to his oval office, the new president himself was brave, surviving such a close call.

And it reinforced the views of Trump and some of his supporters.

Like Teddy Roosevelt, Trump’s miraculous luck

As Teddy Roosevelt embraced the present or former president who survived an attempt to assassinate with such enthusiasm as a sign of something meaningful and important.

In 1912, Roosevelt was called the Bull Moose Party, a former Republican president campaigner, seeking another term as a candidate for the Progressive Party he formed. He avoided serious injuries when the bullet fired by the assassin slowed down by passing through the candidate’s metal glasses case and a thick copy of his speech (“more progressive causes than any individual”) before penetrating his chest.

“I don’t know if I fully understand that I was just shot,” he told the crowd outside the Gilpatrick Hotel in Milwaukee.

He gave a full speech before he saw a doctor and carried bullets in his body for the rest of his life after he decided that it was too risky for the doctor to remove it.

More than a century later, another former Republican president seeking a second term, Trump was seriously injured by his own seemingly miraculous twist of fate. He happened to turn his head to point to a chart showing an illegal boundary intersection with a bullet fired by a sniper on a nearby rooftop, shaking his ears and firing his ears.

If it had been a little closer, the injury could have been devastating. Instead, he only needed seams and bandages, but he says his ears sometimes purr. A man in the audience was struck and killed by a series of gunshots before the Secret Service sniper killed the shooter.

A few days later, in his acceptance speech to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Roosevelt’s near miss location, just three blocks from the location in front of the Gilpatrick Hotel – Trump spoke dramatic details of his assassination attempt. His right ear was covered in folded white bandages.

“I stand before you by the grace of Almighty God,” he told the audience of the spell. He vowed not to talk about the shooting again. He was a promise to break within a few weeks.

Now, all visitors are on tours of the White House, walking by a painting depicting the moment he rose after being worked on by an agent of the Secret Service, pumping his fist into the air. He cried out, shaking his face, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

“Some new artwork at the White House” is the official White House account posted on social media platform X, serving as the emoji eye. The official portrait of President Barack Obama was moved to clear the main spaces of the state floor foyer for a new painting.

High-top sneakers and expensive perfumes remind you of the day

“It was God’s hand,” Trump told journalist Sarena Jeet the day after filming. “He was there.”

In her new book, Butler: An Untold Tale of the Nearly Assassination of Donald Trump and the Battle of America’s Heartland, Zito, published by the conservative Imprint Center Street on July 8, writes that the shooting encouraged more during his fierce first period of time that the 78-year-old boy’s resolve burned.

At the time of the shooting, President Joe Biden had fallen free-fall after a volatile performance in the June 27 presidential debate. He eventually retreated as the standard representative for the Democrats.

Two weeks after the debate, Trump’s extraordinary response to the shooting prompted some skeptics to reconsider him. Later that day, Musk announced he was in support of Trump. His Matismo may have been particularly appealing to some male voters.. On Election Day, the Pew Research Center calculates that he scored 12% points on the man after it broke even in 2020.

And there is this. The Trump-owned company sold out from its limited edition high-top sneakers for $299, showing images of bloody faces on each side – “eye catching and acquiescence.” Last week, the site began offering $249 bottled cologne, with names that are unique to perfumes, but apparently offered a “battle of battle” for Trump.

Russian Ukrainian bombardment will fatally strike Kiev

Kiev, Ukraine
CNN

Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukrainian capital Kiev early on Thursday, marking the second consecutive night of ferocious attacks on the country as Russia increased its bombings in the war for more than three years.

At least two people have been killed and more than a dozen were injured in the attack, Kyiv authorities said.

According to Kyiv’s CNN staff, who filmed the strike, a massive, fiery explosion illuminated the night sky. Smoke filled the air, creating a burning smell, obscuring the views of the city centre.

According to Ukrainian officials, the attack will be one night after Russia fired 13 missiles on a strike that launched 728 drones and 13 missiles since the start of a full-scale invasion.

The damage on Thursday morning looked quite significant.

City officials said homes, homes, cars, warehouse facilities, warehouse facilities, offices and other buildings were damaged and caused a fire. Healthcare clinics have been almost completely destroyed on strike, mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko I said.

Russia has significantly expanded its air attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, launching close range attacks, including hundreds of drones and missiles.

People are resting Thursday morning at a metro station used as a bomb shelter in Kiev.

Efforts for a peace deal were slowing at the same time, causing frustration in the White House, with the US president on Tuesday targeting Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“If we want to know the truth, we’re throwing lots of burs* at Putin,” Trump told the cabinet meeting. “He’s always so lovely, but it turns out to be pointless.”

As the Trump administration pledged to send additional defensive weapons to Kiev in an apparent return to policy, Russia’s sustained attacks inject new urgency into questions surrounding Washington’s commitment to defending Ukraine.

Moscow downplayed Trump’s harsh words at a press conference Wednesday. A Kremlin spokesman said he was responding “serenely” to Trump’s criticism of Putin. “Trump generally tends to use rather tough style and expression,” Dmitry Peskov said, adding that Moscow wants to continue his dialogue with Washington.

Fires burn in a residential building on Thursday, July 10th, 2025 after a Russian attack in Kiev, Ukraine.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of Malaysia’s ASEAN summit on Thursday.

Following the record-breaking drone attack on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymeazelensky said “There have been so many attempts to achieve peace and stop the fire, but Russia has rejected everything.”

Thursday’s attack on Kiev followed a landmark ruling by the top European courts of top human rights on Wednesday, revealing that Russia has committed major international law violations in Ukraine.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled four lawsuits in relation to Russian military operations in Ukraine since 2022, as well as the conflict in eastern Ukraine that began in 2014, including the collapse of MH17’s Malaysia Airlines flight.

It has been discovered that Russia has committed a pattern of human rights abuses in Ukraine since the start of a full-scale invasion in February 2022.

The ECHR also ruled that Russia was responsible for the collapse of the 2014 flight MH17. Moscow repeatedly denied responsibility for the destruction of MH17, killing 298 people.

Openai will try Google Chrome with a new AI-powered web browser

0

play

Openai is approaching the release of an AI-powered web browser that challenges Google Chrome, which controls Alphabet’s Google.o market.

The browser is expected to be released in the coming weeks, the three say, and aims to fundamentally change the way consumers browse the web using artificial intelligence. Openai provides more direct access to user data, the basis of Google’s success.

If adopted by ChatGPT’s 400 million active users, Openai’s browser could put pressure on key components of rival Google’s ad money spigot. Chrome is an important pillar of Alphabet’s advertising business, accounting for nearly three-quarters of revenue as Chrome provides Alphabet Target Ad with more effective and profitable user information and gives Google a way to route search traffic to its own engine by default.

Instead of clicking on a website, Openai’s browser is designed to preserve user interaction within a native chat interface like ChatGPT.

Browsers are part of Openai’s broad strategy for weaving consumers’ personal and professional lives, one source said.

Openai declined to comment.

The source refused to be identified as he was not permitted to speak publicly about the matter.

Leading by entrepreneur Sam Altman, Openai overturned the tech industry in late 2022 with the launch of AI Chatbot ChatGPT. After initial success, Openai faces tough competition from rivals such as Google and Startup Anthropic, looking for new areas of growth.

In May, Openai said it would enter the hardware domain and pay $6.5 billion to buy IO, an AI device startup from Jony Ive, former design chief of Apple’s AAPL.O.

Using a web browser allows OpenAI to integrate AI agent products, such as operators, directly into the browsing experience, allowing the browser to perform tasks on behalf of the user, people said.

Accessing browser users’ web activity makes it an ideal platform for AI “agents” that can take actions directly within the website they use, such as booking reservations and filling out forms.

Tough competition

According to Web Analytics Firm StatceCounter, Openai has over 3 billion people’s Google Chrome, which is used by over 3 billion people, and now has more than two-thirds of the global browser market. Apple’s AAPL.O No. 2 Safari lags behind with a 16% share. Last month, Openai said ChatGpt had 3 million paid business users.

Other AI startups such as Browser Company and Brave have announced AI-powered browsers that can perform actions on behalf of users this year. Perplexity, a funded startup known for search engines, also launched AI browser Comet on Wednesday.

Chrome’s role in providing user information to target Alphabet’s targeted ads more effectively and profitably has been a very successful decision to sell the Department of Justice after a US judge ruled that Google’s parents held an illegal monopoly in online searches.

Openai’s browser is built on Chromium, Google’s own open source browser code, two sources say. Chromium is the source code for Google Chrome and is a number of competitive browsers, including Microsoft’s MSFT.O Edge and Opera Opra.O.

Last year, Openai hired two longtime vice-presidents of Google who were part of the original team that developed Google Chrome. The information first reported their employment, and Openai reported that he had previously considered building a browser.

An Openai executive testified in April that the company would be interested in purchasing Chrome if antitrust enforcers succeeded in enforcing sales.

Google does not sell Chrome. The company says it plans to appeal the ruling that it holds its monopoly.

Openai has decided to build its own browser rather than simply “plugin” on top of other company browsers.

Increase Social Security benefits with three smart moves

0

play

There is a reason why people are generally advised not to leave on Social Security alone. The average benefits are not far from helping seniors cover their costs.

As of May 2025, the average monthly Social Security benefit for retired workers was $2,002.39 for the last month, when data was available at the time of writing. That would cost over $24,000 a year, but this isn’t much money to live on.

That’s why it’s important to try and retire from savings with you. However, we recommend increasing your monthly Social Security check. And with these three moves, you might be able to bring home much more money than $2,002.39 a month.

1. Increase wages while working

The more money you earn during your year of work, the more social security you can earn when you retire. At least up to the point. Each year there is a wage cap that counts in Social Security and determines the amount of income that is subject to Social Security tax. However, the cap is generally quite expensive.

For example, this year, the Social Security wage cap is $176,100. Revenues above that threshold will not increase monthly profits on the line.

However, if someone who earns $70,000 a year can get a promotion to raise their salary to $75,000, it could lead to massive Social Security checks during their retirement. Similarly, padding your income with $3,000 side hustle revenues could also lead to more generous Social Security benefits.

2. I’ll work for at least 35 years

Social Security benefits during retirement are based on the workforce’s highest 35 year revenue. However, it doesn’t mean that you will need to work fully for 35 years to qualify for Social Security, and many people do not.

However, if you don’t have a 35-year job history, you can earn $0 for your annual benefit calculations that you don’t make any money. Additionally, social security checks may be small for several years to earn zero.

On the other hand, if you insist on working for at least 35 years, you may be able to qualify for a greater Social Security benefit upon retirement. And if you’ve been working for more than 35 years, the same may apply.

Many people see incomes increase at the tail edge of their career. So let’s say you have reached the age of 67 (the full social security retirement age for those born after 1960). And you’ve already worked for 35 years. If you’re making more than ever, pushing yourself to earn another 12 months could mean replacing a year’s low wage with a higher wage, which results in an increase in monthly social security checks.

3. Delay your claim past the full retirement age

Waiting until full retirement age to claim Social Security helps avoid monthly profit cuts as you can sign up at any point from the age of 62. However, if you are willing to sit longer, delaying your Social Security claim will increase your benefits by 8% per year until your 70th birthday.

Of course, delaying social security has its drawbacks. Not only might it force you to work longer, but if you don’t end up spending a very long lifetime, delayed claims could also have fewer lifetime benefits. But if your health is strong and you are eager to get more social security each month, it’s a guaranteed way for them to give you a boost.

It is best to be able to utilize retirement income available outside of Social Security, such as individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and 401(k) plans, but with larger monthly benefits, senior self can be put into a world of goodness. By following these steps and paying to grasp more generous profits, you can feel financially stable in your senior year.

The Bishop of California has suspended its massive duty against immigration fear

0

play

The Catholic bishop, who oversees major Southern California parishes, has officially allowed parishioners to formally miss the weekly public amid fears of immigration raids throughout the region.

Bishop of San Bernardino, Alberto Rojas, announced on July 8 that parishioners who have “real fear” about US immigration and customs enforcement attacks have been distributed from their obligation to attend the masses on other holy days, such as Sunday and Christmas. Rojas said, “Such fear constitutes a serious inconvenience that may hinder the spiritual good of the faithful.”

“In issuing this order, I am led by the Church’s mission to care for the spiritual welfare of all those entrusted to me, especially those facing fear and hardship,” Rojas wrote.

Such a parish-wide distribution is usually issued in response to a serious situation or in times of crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and social or political unrest. According to Roman Catholic Catechism, observers must attend Mass every Sunday and on the Holy Day of Holy Duties.

According to a national Catholic reporter, Rojas’ announcement comes after he detained immigrants last month on two of the parish’s parish property. A spokesperson for the Parish of San Bernardino told the newspaper that it occurred in Our Lady of Lourdes, Montreasure, California, where several men were detained in St. Adelaide Parish in Highlands, California, on June 20, and “long-time parishioners” were detained.

After his detention, Rojas said in a letter to the parish that the immigration enforcement action “creates an incredible amount of fear, confusion and anxiety for many.” The bishop urged civil servants to “rethink these tactics immediately and stop.”

“We have seen changes and increases in immigration enforcement in our area, particularly in our parish,” Rojas wrote in the letter. “The authorities are now indiscriminately seizing brothers and sisters without respecting their rights to legitimate procedures and their dignity as children of God.”

The Parish of San Bernardino in eastern Los Angeles was founded in 1978 and, according to its website, is the sixth largest parish in the United States. The parish says it serves around 1 million Catholics in 56.4% Latinos San Bernardino County and 52.5% Latinos Riverside County, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Special orders come amid objections to Trump’s immigration agenda

San Bernardino’s commander comes amid growing opposition from Roman Catholic bishops across the United States over President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. Many bishops reflect the sentiment of Pope Leo XIV and the late Pope Francis, both criticizing Trump’s stance on immigration.

After taking office in January, Trump dropped long-standing federal policies against immigration enforcement in sensitive places such as schools and places of worship. Several religious groups have sued the Trump administration over a policy change in February.

However, in April, federal judges ruled over religious groups and refused to restrict the administration’s enforcement activities, according to Reuters.

After the 2024 presidential election, the Congress of Catholic Bishops said it was in “steady solidarity with immigrant brothers and sisters.” Several other Catholic leaders have also expressed solidarity with immigration, reported Nashville Tennessee, part of the USA Today Network.

The Parish of San Bernardino appears to have first issued a formal distribution over immigration enforcement. In May, the Nashville Diocese of Tennessee recommended caution about attending Mass, according to the state of Tennessee.

“We are extremely concerned that immigration enforcement activities in the Nashville area far exceed efforts to target individuals accused of serious and dangerous crimes,” the Nashville Diocese said in a statement to Tennessee. “Concerns about the lack of legal due process for those featured in our current environment create even greater fear within our community, including fears of being faced or detained while attending the masses of our parish and other events.”

Trump immigration crackdown in California

In recent months, the Trump administration has stepped up deportation efforts in California, promoting workplace immigration attacks, traffic stops and routine legal check-in. A string of attacks throughout Los Angeles County sparked violent protests in June.

After protests that predominately occurred in a small area of downtown Los Angeles, starting on June 6th, Trump took several quick actions, including calling 4,000 California National Guard troops and 700 Marines. The decision sparked anger from California officials who accused the president of stealing tensions and intensifying anxiety.

State and local officials have also repeatedly condemned federal immigrant attacks. Earlier this week, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass denounced federal agents and National Guard troops for getting off at city parks.

Armored vehicles, cavalry and armed forces temporarily flocked MacArthur Park in Los Angeles’ Westlake area before leaving. Bass said 20 children were playing in the park, with the military surgently sharing footage of federal officials running through the park.

“Frankie, it’s ridiculous that there are armed federal vehicles when nothing is happening in our park, and not American,” Bus said at a July 7 press conference. “It’s outrageous and non-Americans that the federal government seized the state’s National Guard. It’s outrageous and Americans that there are US Marines trained to kill overseas soldiers deployed in American cities.”

Sierra of Love Island apologises to “Asian Community”

play

A few days after suddenly leaving the “Love Island USA” villa, Sierra Ortega is working on why he was taken from the show.

In the week leading up to her departure, some social media users expressed anger over screenshots of Instagram posts and messages in recent years, showing that Ortega used racist slur towards Asians to show that Ortega looked at her eyes negatively.

The 25-year-old said on July 9, wearing a sweater decorated in front of her “empathy” sweater, “Not only those who hurt or deeply offended me, but also the entire Asian community, I am deeply, truly, honestly, sorry.

“While I was in the villa, there were several posts that resurfaced from my past. “I had no idea that the words had a lot of pain, harmfulness, and that they had brought to the history they had made or that they had never used it. When I was using it, I was not malicious, but that’s absolutely not an excuse because intentions do not excuse ignorance.”

She called the post “not an apology video” and rather an “accountability video.”

On July 6th, she was phased out from the Peacock Romance Competition Show, which first appeared at the end of the June 3rd premiere episode.

She and her partner Nic Vansteenberghe were the only couple to label themselves as exclusive. Their fellow islanders appeared to think they would win the front line as the season ends on Sunday, July 13th.

Sierra said the slur she used was racist

Ortega said she didn’t know the racist origins of the words she used in multiple social media posts, saying, “I hope I know I didn’t really know it was a slur. It didn’t make sense to me.”

Slur “was quickly removed from my vocabulary” in 2024, she said.

She shared screenshots of direct message exchanges and rejected the “story” that she doubled with the use of words, as she allegedly got the screen of the exchange circulated on social media.

Gold Gala Day: John M. Chu celebrates Asian achievements

While attending the Gold Gala, director John M. Chu reflected the importance of Asian media representatives in his conversation with USA Today.

Sierra: “I totally agree” “Decision to remove me from the villa”

Ortega was not opposed to the choice of “Love Island USA” producers.

“I fully agree with the network’s decision to remove me from the villa. This is a punishment worthy of it, and I think the punishment was certainly absolutely received,” she said.

Ortega continues to blame the backlash from viewers, as the family is a Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage family.

“My family doesn’t feel safe in their homes. I’m under death threat,” she said. “There’s no need to fight hatred and hatred. I don’t think that’s justice.”

Before Ortega’s video, on July 6, her family posted a statement on Ortega’s Instagram Story, which criticized the actions of several of the show’s viewers.

“We’re not here to justify or ignore what’s surfaced. We understand why people are upset and we know the issue of accountability. But what’s going on online is far beyond that.”

“It’s heartbreaking, even her family, her friends, her supporters. It’s not said, and no one deserves such hatred, no matter what mistake they make.”

A survey of more than 1,000 people across the United States identified as Asian Americans and/or Pacific Islanders said 72% of young people aged 18 to 29 have experienced hate, according to a report by Stop AAPI Hate and the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center released in June.

Over half of adults aged 30-44, as well as 46% of those aged 45-59 and over 44% of those aged 60 and over reported such experiences, including harassment and institutional discrimination.

FTC Click to cancel rules blocked by the Court of Appeal

0

play

The federal court of appeals has blocked a new rule that forces businesses to make it easier to cancel unnecessary subscriptions and memberships.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit broke the Federal Trade Commission rules just days before it was due to take effect, saying that a “fatal” procedural error had been made in the rulemaking process.

The FTC could not be reached for comment.

The “Click to Cancel” rule announced in October required that companies create a company that cancel services in the same way they sign up, saying it was “at least easy.” The companies would also have had to agree to a free exam that would be converted to subscriptions, auto-renewal and paid memberships.

The rules that were part of the Biden administration’s “time is money” initiative were initiatives to crack down on “junk fees” and other consumer headaches, and two Republican commissioners at the FTC voted against it, passing 3-2.

“It’s so easy to sign up for a subscription, and it’s miraculous. That’s why I know that the difficulty of canceling is not an accident. It’s an option. And it’s a choice that’s causing real harm to consumers.”

Consumer groups have been praised as a much-needed protection for consumers who have paid for services they no longer want. In 2024, the FTC said it received an average of 70 complaints per day.

But click to cancel,” he quickly faced political and legal challenges.

Republican and new FCC president Andrew Ferguson voted against “Click To Cancel” as FTC commissioner.

The rule was also opposed by business groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who accused the FTC of over-statutory authorities and unfairly saddled businesses with high costs and unnecessary regulatory hurdles.

“The court ruled that federal agencies must follow the rulemaking process, including conducting a thorough analysis of how much the proposed regulations cost consumers and businesses,” the Chamber of Commerce said in a statement. “This decision provides safeguards against rushed rulemaking and strengthens the importance of agencies addressing public concerns.”

Erin Witte, director of Consumer Protection for the American Consumer Federation, said the court’s decision was “another handout to businesses that have done everything they can to hurt consumers and kill the rules.”

“Click to Cancel Rule was a candid, common sense approach that empowered Americans to break up with subscriptions without jumping over the outrageous hoops,” Witte said. “Subscription traps allow large businesses to make profits at the expense of Americans who want their freedom to choose where they spend their money.”

Teresa Murray, consumer watchdog director for the Public Interest Research Group, pointed to the long delayed silver lining caused by legal proceedings. Forecasting the rules has been enabled, and she said that in some states, many businesses changed their cancellation policies a few months ago, if they had similar rules.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a seldom going back to the old ways that companies have already made changes to their websites and interfaces, at least in the short term,” Murray said. “Many businesses think they’ve noticed that compliance standards are pretty low. They make it easy for customers to cancel subscriptions and repetitive purchases, and become transparent about costs, cancellation deadlines and other basic details. That sounds like a good business.”

Trump praises President Liberian’s “good English” and urges criticism across Africa

0

CNN

US President Donald Trump praised Liberian President Joseph Boachey on Wednesday for his strong grasp of English. However, African leaders were educated in Liberia, where English is the official language.

When he hosted five African leaders in the White House, Trump asked Boaches:

Bokai informed Trump of his education and urged him to express his curiosity. “It’s very interesting,” he said. “There are people at this table who can barely speak to us.”

Liberia was founded in 1822 by the American Colonization Association. The goal was to resettle freed slaves in Africa. The country declared its independence from the American Colonization Association in 1847, and today English is the official language and various languages are spoken domestically.

Several Liberians have expressed their crimes against Trump’s comments on Boaches, taking into account the US President’s past statements on African countries and the colonial legacy left behind by the US organizations in Liberia.

“We felt humiliated because our country is an English-speaking country,” Liberian youth advocate Archie Tammel Harris told CNN.

“I don’t see it as a compliment because he asks that question. I feel that the US President and the people of the West are looking at Africans as villagers who are not yet educated.”

A Liberian diplomat who asked not to name him told CNN he felt it was “not appropriate.” The diplomat added, “It was a bit mean to an African president from an English-speaking country.”

South African politician Veronica Mente asked about X.

White House press defended Trump’s statement on Wednesday.

“I was at the meeting and everyone was deeply grateful for the president’s time and effort. There has never been a friend like that in the White House on the continent like President Trump,” Massad Boulos, a senior African adviser to the Trump administration, said in a statement to CNN.

White House assistant reporter Anna Kelly said Trump’s comments were “a heartfelt tribute” and that “President Trump should recognize that he is already doing more to restore global stability and uplifting countries in Africa and around the world than Joe Biden has done in four years.”

Liberian Foreign Minister Sarah Bethorrow Nyanti told CNN that “there was no crime” from the Liberian president’s point of view, “Many people do not understand the linguistic boundaries and linguistic demographics of the African continent.”

“What President Trump has heard clearly is the US influence on our English in Liberia, and the President of Liberia is not angry about it,” Nyanti said.

“We know that there are a variety of accents and forms in English, so he was picking up a clear intonation that has its roots in American English for us.

Trump has previously praised other leaders for their English proficiency during diplomatic meetings. At a press conference with German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, Trump compiled his “good English” and asked if it was as good as his German.

Merz laughed, saying, “Let’s get almost everything,” and said he was trying to “get the best possible story.”

The US President has focused English as part of this “America First” platform. During the presidential debate in 2015, Trump argued that the United States is “a country where we speak English.” In March he signed an executive order to make English the official language of the United States.

Trump previously landed in hot water for what he said about African countries. In 2018, the president called immigrants from African countries and other countries coming from “sithole countries.”

In May he spoke to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with false claims that white South African farmers were victims of the massacre.

Trump hit another tone on Wednesday when he met leaders in Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal, celebrating the country as “a very vibrant place of all that has incredibly precious land, great minerals, great oil deposits, great people.”

He then met with the approval of African leaders. African leaders praised the president, urging them to invest in their country and develop their wealth of natural resources.

Boakai even said that Liberia “will (believe) in the policy that will make America great again.”

Samantha Waldenberg of CNN contributed to this story.

Teen suspected of starting a wildfire in Southern California with fireworks

0

play

The 13-year-old was arrested this week on suspicion of illuminating fireworks that likely caused a revamp on the coast of Southern California, urging evacuation and causing power outages in the area, authorities said.

The flame, known as the Zarangcho Fire, caught fire on July 7 at about 2:06pm local time in the Hillside area of Laguna Beach, the city said in a statement. The fire burned dry brushes and vegetation in the area, growing to about four acres, threatening a nearby Canyon home, according to the Orange County Fire Department.

According to a preliminary report, the fire may have started with illegal fireworks, the Laguna Beach Police Department said in a July 8 statement. He said the flames spread along the hillsides of Rancho Laguna, making it a neighbourhood above the village area overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Police say Laguna Beach Police Rangers initially detained two boys and two boys. Officers later obtained video evidence that they said they had shown “the boy was lit up the fireworks and fled the scene.”

After further investigation, police identified the suspect as a 13-year-old boy and said they had obtained a search warrant for arrest and seizure of electronic devices. The boy was then detained on suspicion of reckless burning of a felony of a forest land.

“Because of the absence of injuries or immediate threat to the structure, Orange County Juvenile Hall will not accept suspects on the reservation,” police said. “He was edited at the Laguna Beach Police Station and released by his parents’ administrators.”

The case was filed with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for review, and there is a possibility of criminal charges being filed, police added.

Laguna Beach, a city in Tony Southern California known for its vibrant beach scene and art gallery district, is about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. As of 2024, the city’s population is over 22,500, according to the US Census Bureau.

Laguna Beach Fire is included by July 9th

Laguna Beach Police said detectives are working with the Laguna Beach Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Department to continue investigating the origins of the firefighters. Laguna Beach Fire Chief Nico King said about 200 firefighters, five helicopters, two planes and a drone were used to fight the flames.

Laguna Beach Mayor Alex Raunagi said no injuries or damages have been reported, but the flames forced the evacuation of about 100 homes in the Arch Beach Heights area. In an update on July 7th, the mayor said a fire broke out in the Bluebird Canyon area, which was recently approved for fuel reduction work through hand crews.

In addition to evacuation, several roads have been closed and the city has reported intermittent power losses in the area. The evacuation order was lifted on July 7th at about 7:30pm, according to the city.

The 4.6 acres mapped fire was fully included by 8am on July 9th, with all closed roads reopening to traffic, the city said.

Laguna Beach officials have spent $25 million over the past few years in compliance with the 2019 fire program, the Los Angeles Times reported. Following the Palisade and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County earlier this year, city officials have updated their plans and aimed to improve fire safety.

“The effectiveness of the city’s Fuel Correction Zone (FMZ) was also clear. The vegetation was cleaned along the Ridgeline and helped slow the progress of the fire,” according to the city. “In particular, the FMZ closest to the fire has been recently approved and installed.”

Fires occur while the risk of fire increases

Laguna Beach Fire had residents enrolled after a series of flames in Los Angeles County ravaged earlier this year. According to the latest Cal Fire data, the flame was one of more than dozens of wildfires that sparked across California in recent weeks.

The fast-moving wildfire in Central California, known as the Madre Fire, has become the largest in the state so far this year. A fire broke out on July 2nd, burning a remote area in southeastern San Luis Obispo County.

As of July 9, the Madre fire had grown to over 80,600 acres, with about 62% contained, according to Cal Fire.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles warned on July 9 that temperatures are expected to be between 95 and 105 degrees inland. The agency said it could “promote serious fire risks” in southwestern and southwest Santa Barbara County.

“Next Tuesday to Friday, especially the dangerous heat away from the coast,” the Weather Bureau said in a post on X.

Do you think it’s too late to buy Nvidia with a $4 trillion valuation? Think again

Nvidia stocks aren’t as expensive as they look

NVIDIA designs graphics processing units (GPUs) that provide the processing power needed to support the latest AI and machine learning software. The company’s total margin is approximately 60% Almost twice as many competitors as Intel It reflects the comparison of cutting edge chips with rival offerings. Nvidia can claim more products for its products, primarily due to its performance advantage and the value of its widely used software platform. This allows developers to easily program chips for specific tasks.

Nvidia’s hardware is essentially powering the AI revolution. Most analysts believe they currently have a market share of 85% to 90% on AI accelerator chips. With AI infrastructure spending expected to increase by more than 30% per year through 2033, Nvidia could actively grow its sales base over the next decade at least.

NVIDIA shares are currently trading at around 51x revenues. It’s still quite premium. However, revenues are rising so rapidly that the stock will trade just 36.9 times its earnings next year. If we can maintain our total margin, our stock valuations could continue to improve dramatically year by year due to rapid sales growth. Nvidia’s ratings look quite reasonable compared to competitors like Intel, which have lost money in each of the last three quarters.

President Donald Trump was visibly impressed by how well Liberian President Joseph Boachey spoke the official language of West African country, the country he visited the White House on July 9th to discuss potential trade transactions.

“Liberia is a longtime friend of the United States and believes in policies that make America great again,” Boaches told the president, according to Reuters.

“Well, thank you, and such good English,” replied Trump. “It’s beautiful. Where did you learn to speak so beautifully? Where did you get an education? Where? Liberia?”

“In Liberia?” asked Trump. “Yes, teacher,” Boaches said.

“That’s very interesting,” Trump said. “There are people at this table who can barely speak to us.”

After Boachey’s visit to the White House, several people, including at least one elected official, took him to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Trump’s comments and called them inappropriate.

“Trump is racist and never miss an opportunity to be wrong. Every day he finds embarrassing new ways,” Texas Sen. Jasmine Crockett posted on his previous Twitter. “To ask the president of Liberia where he learned English when he was literally at the peak of his official language. I am sure being blatantly offensive is not a way to do diplomacy…”

“This is an example of a microattack and highlights Trump’s views on Africans,” reads one X-Post. “Many Africans who were born, raised and educated in Africa communicate in ‘beautiful English’. ”

USA Today contacted the White House to comment on the interaction.

When did Liberia use English as Japanese?
