According to his current employer, the tech CEO, who went viral after getting caught up in camera at a cold play concert, has resigned.

The data technology company’s astronomer issued a statement on social media platform X and job networking site LinkedIn on Saturday, July 19, saying, “Andy Byron filed for resignation and the board has accepted it.”

“As mentioned earlier, astronomers are committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” reads the astronomer’s statement. “Our leaders are expected to set standards in both conduct and accountability, and these standards have not been met recently.”

According to astronomers, its board will begin looking for an alternative to Byron, with “co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy continuing to serve as interim CEO.”

“Previously this week, we were known as pioneers in the DataOps space, helping our data teams move everything from modern analytics to production AI,” the company’s statement reads. “Our perception may have changed overnight, but our products and our work for our customers aren’t. We continue to do our best. We help our customers with the most demanding data and AI issues.”

What happened at the Cold Play concert?

On the night of July 18, astronomers identified the video couple as Byron and the company’s chief talent officer, The New York Times reported.

Previously, astronomers had issued two statements about the X. This was when Byron was on vacation and the company was conducting an investigation.

The July 16 video shows a man and a woman quickly letting go of each other when a “kiss cam” appears on a giant screen at a concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

“Um, what? They’re either cheating or very shy,” joked Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Over 76.5 million people watch videos of the incident at Gillette Stadium.

USA Today has not confirmed the identities of the male and female in the video and has contacted the company multiple times for comment after the video was shown.

Zelensky is seeking a ceasefire talk with Russia next week

CNN

Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky says he is pushing forward the ceasefire talks in pursuit of a meeting with Russia next week.

Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Defense Council, has already proposed a next meeting with the Russian side next week, Zelensky said in his daily speech on Saturday.

“The negotiation dynamics must be improved. We need to do everything possible to achieve a ceasefire. The Russians must avoid decisions regarding prisoner interaction, child return and halt killing,” Zelensky said.

“Conferences at the leadership level are truly essential to ensure peace. Ukraine is ready for such a meeting,” he added.

Meanwhile, Russian state media outlet Tass reported that sources close to the Russian negotiation team have confirmed that they have received Kiev’s proposal for the meeting.

The final round of the ceasefire talks in Istanbul ended swiftly in early June. Representatives from Russia and Ukraine barely met for over an hour before it stopped. According to Russian state media, Russia has submitted its largest territorial request as part of the prerequisite for a ceasefire. Ukraine previously refused to consider territorial concessions in exchange for peace.

Zelensky’s call for consultation has been received after President Donald Trump provided a 50-day window to provide Russian President Vladimir Putin with a 50-day window to achieve a “secondary tariff” on goods from countries purchasing Russian oil before the US implemented high tariffs on Russian goods.

“If there’s no transaction in 50 days, we’re going to put in very strict tariffs,” Trump said during a meeting with NATO executive director Mark Latte earlier this week in an oval office.

“I use trades on a lot of things,” Trump added. “But it’s perfect for solving wars.”

Trump has expressed an increase in complaints with Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent weeks, even complaining that Putin’s assurances about progress in the ceasefire are “bulk.”

However, Western analysts and Ukrainian officials say the president’s 50-day window is unlikely to stop Putin from promoting Russian summer attacks in the coming weeks. Furthermore, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed Trump’s threatened tariffs as merely a dull one.

“50 days – it used to be 24 hours,” Lavrov said. “It used to be 100 days. We’ve been through all of this.”

Is shark attacks increasing? Please see the latest data.

It also features the 50th anniversary of Jaws, the film that began its national shark obsession in 1975.

Why are people so fascinated by sharks? Perhaps it’s a mixture of charm, fear, and respect for their strength. According to the National Marine Agency’s National Marine Sanctuary, as one of the world’s top predators, sharks are essential to the marine environment, yet dangerous and beautiful.

According to NOAA, as the top ocean predators, sharks maintain their balance by eating diseased, weak or abundant animals (a rich animal such as fish, marine mammals and other marine life).

According to the World Wildlife Fund, despite its horrifying reputation, only three of the 350+ shark species are believed to be responsible for about two-thirds of all shark attacks.

How common is shark attack?

You’re much more likely to be hit by lightning than you’re attacked by a shark. Shark attacks are considered extremely rare. According to the NOAA, the state’s natural history museum, the Florida Museum, could be attacked by one in 115 million people by a shark, and one in 1.2 million people could be hit by lightning in a given year.

As of July 7th, eight shark attacks occurred in five states: Florida, Hawaii, North Carolina, New York and South Carolina, according to Trackingsharks. In 2024, there were 28 shark attacks in the US, down from 36 in 2023. Since 2021, shark attacks have been declining.

According to data released by International Shark Attack File, 2024 was a “very quiet year” for Shark Bites around the world. 47 untaunted attacks have been reported worldwide. This was 22 fewer than in 2023, and the average for 10 years was well below the age of 70. On average, six fatal attacks are reported each year.

Shark species are most frequently linked to attacks

These are the five shark species that are most frequently cited in non-fatal and provocative attacks on humans.

The US is leading the world in shark attacks

The majority of US incidents occur off the coast of Florida, according to international shark attack files. That might be too surprising given that Florida has the longest coastline in the adjacent US.

How to reduce the risk of attacks

  1. I have a swimming partner. Do not enter the water alone.
  2. Do not swim at dawn or dusk. The low light can increase the risk of sharks being mistaken for other prey.
  3. Do not enter the water where there is a fishing industry.
  4. Do not wear shiny jewels. It can grab the sunlight and glow just like a fish feeding.
  5. Please do not splash. It produces similar sounds to the sounds of struggling fish that can attract sharks.

Hurricane predictors are seeing obstruction in the Atlantic

Tropical waves interact with wide low-pressure regions to generate showers and thunderstorms in the open Atlantic Ocean.

play

The National Hurricane Centre watches a confused shower and thunderstorm east of the Caribbean.

Tropical waves interact with wide low-pressure regions to generate showers and thunderstorms in open Atlantic Oren, more than 900 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, predictors said.

The center, part of the National Weather Service, said in the update, “The environmental conditions appear to slightly encourage the progressive development of this system as they move westward at about 10am for the next few days,” said the official.

By mid-week, the predictor said it is expected that the system will be at a disadvantage for development. Accuweather said the pattern is expected to be filled with wind shears approaching the Caribbean, which could limit the intensification of the system.

Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1st and continues until the end of November.

Aggressive hurricane weather usually peaks between mid-August and mid-October.

Atlantic Hurricane Season Storm Tracker

How do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes originate in the tropical regions above warm waters. Thunderstorm clusters can develop across the ocean when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions are correct, clusters are swirling into tropical waves and storms known as tropical depression.

Tropical depression becomes a named tropical storm when its sustained wind speed reaches 39 mph. When the wind reaches 74 mph, the storm officially becomes a hurricane.

Get ready for a hurricane now

Potentially delaying preparations for salvation can mean waiting until it’s too late. “Get disaster supply while the shelves are still in stock and flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so get that insurance inspection early,” NOAA recommends.

  • Establish an evacuation plan: If you are at risk of a hurricane, you will need an evacuation plan. Now is the time to plan where you will go and how you will get there.
  • Assemble disaster supply: Whether you’re evacuating or evacuating, you’ll need supplies not only to get through the storm, but also for the potentially long aftermath.
  • Get an insurance inspection and document your property: Contact your insurance company or agent now to ask for an insurance inspection and make sure you have sufficient insurance to repair or replace your home or belongings. Remember that home insurance and tenant insurance don’t cover floods, so you’ll need a separate insurance for that. Flood insurance is available through your company, agent, or through your national flood insurance program. Flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so take action now.
  • Create a family communication plan: NOAA said he took the time to write down your hurricane plan and share it with your family. Determine where family gatherings are to be located and include out-of-town locations in the event of evacuation.
  • It strengthens your home: Now is the time to improve your home’s ability to withstand the effects of a hurricane. Trim the wood; attach storm shutters, accordion shutters, and/or impact glass. Seal the wall opening.

Vietnam: Ha Long Bay tourist boat kills dozens of people in Vietnam, rescuers search for survivors

CNN

Divers are still searching for passengers and crew who are still missing after a tourist boat that was encapsulated in Squall, a popular tourist destination in Vietnam on Saturday. At least 34 bodies were recovered and an additional 11 people were rescued.

According to VN Express, the still-missing person reported having 53 people, including 48 tourists and five crew members. The nationality of the people on board has not been stated yet.

In an interview with State Media Outlet Vietnamnet, the 64-year-old diver on the scene said much of the ship’s passenger area had been searched. However, the cockpit and engine compartment are clogged with mud, making it difficult to reach.

“At this point, I’m sure there are no more bodies in the passenger seat,” said diver Vie Kion. “I’m worried that some bodies may be floating outside.”

VN Express reported that the ship, known as the Wonder Sea, was caught in a storm around 1:30 PM local time (2:30 AM ET). They then lost their GPS signal, according to an outlet cited the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee.

VN Express was mobilized to the scene, along with navy, border guards, police, port authorities and 27 boats and two rescue vessels, adding that heavy rains from dusk and limited visibility have made rescue operations difficult.

According to VN Express, most passengers traveled as a family from the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi.

More than 20 children were on board, according to VN Express. Citing the local hospital’s director, the outlet reported that the 10-year-old was in stable condition after suffering multiple injuries.

He also reported that the 14-year-old boy survived after being trapped in the ship’s sunk cabin for four hours, citing the witness and deputy chief of the HA Long Cruise Ship Association.

The state broadcaster VTV has recovered at a local hospital and interviewed survivor Dang Thuy Linh.

“I have lost contact with my son, husband and friends’ whole family,” Dan told VTV.

“What I’m looking for now is for everyone to speed up their rescue missions and save all of them,” Dan added. “Don’t let anyone get on that boat. There’s very little air left. There’s very little chance of survival.”

The Capsys reportedly took place near the Dow Go Cave.

Halong Bay is a popular tourist hotspot and a UNESCO World Heritage Site consisting of around 1,600 limestone islands and islands.

Trump EPA cuts research and development offices

0

The research and development office was in the crosshairs of an organization that formed an alliance with President Donald Trump.

play

The Environmental Protection Agency has eliminated the Bureau of Scientific Research in the latest cuts to the federal workforce of the Trump administration.

The changes, announced on July 18, had an impact on the Research and Development Bureau and provided the EPA with information to determine human health and environmental standards. According to a news release from the agency, EPA currently owns a new office in applied science environmental solutions.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the EPA has taken a closer look at our business and has enabled our agencies to fulfill our core mission to promote America’s great American comeback while protecting human health and the environment,” agency manager Lee Zeldin said in a statement. “This power cut will allow us to better meet that mission while being the head of our hard-earned taxes.”

Authorities said with the creation of the Office of Applied Science Environmental Solutions, the EPA has said it is “at the forefront of rules making and technical assistance” for research and science.

The EPA said the organizational changes have saved nearly $750 million. The agency was already subject to cuts from the new administration. The Supreme Court ruling on July 8 allowed the Trump administration to implement sweep reductions by Elon Musk’s Office of Government Efficiency.

In January, the EPA had 16,155 employees, while the agency said it had 12,448 workers.

The number of staff members affected by the July 18 announcement is unknown, but some staff will be reassigned at the agency. In an email, an EPA spokesperson said the next step is to send notifications to individual employees.

This office includes biologists, chemists, epidemiologists and toxicologists. Scientists will deal with new pollutants, including research into environmental emergency situations such as floods, train derailment and wildfires, according to Nicole Cantello, director of the Legislative and Politician Bureau of the U.S. Government Employee Council 238, representing EPA workers.

“The EPA is plagued by destroying the world’s most important environmental research institute,” Cantello said. “It only poses dirty air, dirty water and more health risks for Americans.”

Union Chairman Justin Chen said the research and development office has also set regulatory guidelines for measuring contaminant levels. The restructuring brings scientific research closer to the administrators, the political appointees, and “can turn a blind eye to the inconveniences that are in the administration’s friends,” Chen said.

In March, Democrats on the House Science Committee said the EPA’s R&D reorganization plan had around 1,540 employees nationwide. Lawmakers warned that the plan would eliminate about 50-75% of staffing at EPA’s research and development offices. The New York Times first reported on the plan.

“The erasure of the (Research and Development Bureau) will have a generational impact on the health and safety of Americans,” said Rep. D-California Zoe Lofgren, the committee’s ranking chair, in a statement on July 18th. “This is a tragedy.”

As the Times reported, the research and development office was in the crosshairs of an organization that was allied with Trump. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, specifically cited the EPA Science Office for Project 2025. This is a blueprint for Trump to reconstruct and reduce the federal government.

Lester Holt, Stephen Colbert and other exits

0

play

TV status is changing towards the exit door as big-name anchors and late-night comics fire, cancel and career transitions.

More than dozens of well-known anchors and television hosts are separated from the gigs on major networks such as CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN. In particular, Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” was cancelled in May 2026 by effective CBS.

Anthony Adolnath, chairman of broadcast and digital journalism at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, previously told USA Today that news organizations “have “made a lot of money” and “do not focus on a lot of anchors” to make younger audiences engage in non-evangelistic content.

Let’s take a look at all the TV anchors and hosts who have recently left their roles.

Stephen Colbert, “Late Show with Stephen Colbert”

CBS has cancelled “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and its final show is scheduled for May 2026.

Host Stephen Colbert announced shocking news to studio audiences at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Thursday, July 17th. “I want to let you know what I found last night,” Colbert told the audience. “Next year will be our last season. The network will finish the ‘Late Show’ in May. ”

When the audience expressed their disappointment with a loud moan, Colbert said, “Yeah, I share your feelings.”

Deboraneville, “Inside Edition”

After hosting “Inside Edition” for 30 years, Deboranaville bid another goodbye to viewers in May 2025.

The longtime anchor held her final episode on May 21, where she thanked her Los Angeles colleagues for their immeasurable work ethic and for their fans to welcome her into the house for years.

“I’m literally swimming with gratitude,” Norbill said. “I stayed so long because you welcomed me and the stories we told. I know that many of you are a lot of your companions, and you said you missed our daily visit. I’m going to miss them too.”

Lester Holt, “NBC Nightly News”

In a note to staff in February 2025, Leicester Holt confirmed he will be leaving as anchor for “NBC Nightly News,” which he has served since 2015.

“With ‘Nightly News’ and ‘Dateline’, a smile comes to my face when I think I’m now pinning two of the most successful and iconic TV news shows in broadcast history,” Holt said. “A 20-year-old police radio reporter beat me through broken news around San Francisco, so I couldn’t have imagined my career path would unfold as it had. What a great ride.”

Holt made his final remarks and expressed his gratitude to his dedicated audience on May 30th. “For the past decade we have shared a dark and miserable day and night in our country.” After that, Holt wanted his successor, Tom Lamas, to be “a great success.”

“Oh, my goodness, it’s quite a ride. Thank you guys,” he said at the end of the highlights at the end of the montage surrounded by his 42-year-old wife, Carol Hagen and his colleagues.

Joy Reid, “Reidout”

In February 2025, MSNBC announced numerous changes to its lineup, including cancellation of Joyreid’s show “The Reidout.” Reid, who had hosted shows on the network for over a decade, has also left MSNBC.

The network said Reid’s 7pm time slot will be replaced by a show set for Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez after being filled with a series of rotating anchors.

She is currently hosting “Joy Reid Show” which is available on YouTube.

NBC News, Chuck Todd

Chief political analyst and former “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd announced he would be leaving NBC News in January 2025.

“There’s never been a best time to leave a place that’s been a professional home for a long time, but I’m pretty excited about some new projects in the cusp of going from ’empty pie’ to ‘near real life’,” he said in a note to staff. “So I’m grateful for the opportunity to start my jump in the next chapter at this important moment.”

He went on to say, “I feel worried about this moment in history, but feel at ease with the standards that others at NBC worked so hard to set.”

He currently hosts the “The Chuck Toddcast” podcast and the weekly interview show “Sunday Night With Chuck Todd” on the Noosphere platform.

Jim Acosta, CNN

CNN domestic correspondent Jim Acosta announced the exit from the currently airing network in January 2025. He told viewers, “After carefully considering all of this and considering the alternative time slots that CNN offers me, I decided to move on.”

Acosta, who has been with CNN since 2007 and is known as a critic of President Donald Trump, said in a farewell message, “It’s never a good time to bow to a tyrant.”

He is currently hosting “The Jim Acosta Show.”

Nora O’Donnell, “CBS Evening News”

Nora O’Donnell signed off in January 2025 as an anchor for “CBS Evening News.” She previously announced that she would leave her role after the presidential election, despite being a contributor to CBS.

“I spent 12 years in the anchor chair here at CBS News, leading to the harshness of daily broadcasts and the ruthless news cycle,” she said in July 2024.

“This presidential election is my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business, we tend to see our careers in terms of events at these milestones.”

Hoda Kotb, “Today” Show

Hoda Kotb officially left the “Today” show in January after announcing the exit in September 2024.

Kotb said he turned 60 in 2024 and realized that he “turning the page” and “try something new.” Kotb has been co-anchor for “Today” with Savannah Guthrie since 2018 after Matt Lauer was fired for allegations of sexual misconduct. She has also hosted the fourth hour of the show since 2007.

Kotb was replaced by Craig Melvin’s “Today” show. On the 4-hour block, Jenna Bush Hager leads the program on the spin list of co-hosts

Neil Kabuto, Fox News

Neil Kabuto announced in December that he would leave Fox News almost 30 years later. Kabuto, who has been on the network since its release in 1996, fixed “Your World” at 4pm on weekdays.

Alisyn Camerota, CNN

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota announced the exit from the network in December 2024. She joined CNN in 2014 and previously anchored the “New Day” morning show.

In the final broadcast, Camerata said “It was an honor to be in your home through some of the biggest stories of our life of the last decade,” adding, “I always touch on it when I told viewers got up and helped me get through these challenging times.”

Chris Wallace, CNN

A few days after the 2024 presidential election, Chris Wallace confirmed he would be leaving CNN more than two years later. He joined the network almost 20 years later with Fox News. Wallace told the Daily Beast that he planned to move on to streaming or podcasting.

“We appreciate the dedication and wisdom he brings to all of his work at CNN and hope he is the perfect future,” said Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN.

Andrea Mitchell, “Andrea Mitchell reports”

Andrea Mitchell announced in October 2024 that she would be closing the MSNBC show, The Andrea Mitchell Report, since 2008. She has been hosting since 2008.

“As we prepare to cover the new administration, Andrea’s expertise and reporting is more necessary than ever,” the NBC News leader said in a staff memo at the time. “Please join us for the continued work of work at NBC News, who has congratulated Andrea for 16 years at MSNBC’s anchor desk and is preparing to cover this historic election.”

Jorge Ramos, News Univision

In September 2024, “Noticiero Univision” co-host Jorge Ramos announced the exit from Univision 40 years later. He continued to pinned “Noticiero Univision” until December.

“I am deeply grateful for these 40 years at Univision and am extremely proud to be part of a team that has established strong leadership over the years,” he said. Prior to his final broadcast, Ramos posted to X, “It was quite a ride. I’m very grateful.”

As an independent journalist, Ramos has launched his YouTube channel, “I see things.”

Congo and Rwanda-backed rebels sign a declaration of the principle of permanent ceasefire in the East

0

AP

Congo and Rwandan-backed rebels signed a declaration of principles in Qatar on Saturday, ending decades of fighting in eastern Congo and committed to a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement a month later.

The final peace agreement is to be signed by August 18th, and according to a copy of the declaration seen by the Associated Press, it “conforms to the peace agreement between the Congo and Rwanda” promoted by the United States in June.

The Principles Agreement touches on most of the highlights of Rwanda, signed on June 27th. This is the first direct commitment by both sides since the rebels seized two major cities in eastern Congo with major advances.

Backed by neighbouring Rwanda, the M23 is the most prominent of over 100 armed groups fighting for domination in the Congolese mineral-rich East. With seven million people displaced in the Congo, the UN calls the conflict in eastern Congo “one of the most prolonged, complex and serious humanitarian crises on the planet.”

It was not immediately clear what specific terms and conditions of the final peace agreement would be or what concessions would be made. The M23 had sought the release of members held by the Congolese army, many of whom faced death sentences. The Congo had called for the rebels to withdraw from the territory that had been seized.

The key question is whether Rwanda will draw support for rebels, including thousands of troops that UN experts say are in eastern Congo.

When Rwanda and the Congo signed a peace agreement in Washington, Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Ndungayre said Rwanda agreed to lift “defensive measures.”

Analysts say it will be difficult for the M23 rebels to withdraw from the eastern cities of Congo and Bukabu, which were seized earlier this year.

Epstein Juice records that it is unlikely to satisfy critics

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump admitted on July 19 that he would unlikely meet his cry for details about Jeffrey Epstein.

That alone isn’t enough, Trump said on social media, if the court fully approves his request to release his big ju trial testimony about dishonest financiers and convicted sex offenders.

“There will be nothing enough for troublemakers and radical left madmen to make demands,” the president wrote. “It’s always more, more, more. Maga!”

Trump previously accused the Biden administration of hiding Epstein’s client list.

The Justice Department teased that more files will come out, but on July 7 Attorney General Pam Bondy said there is no client list and no further disclosure is required.

It led to a wave of backlash from Trump’s Maga base.

“No one believes there’s a client list,” Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) posted on X on July 8th.

On July 18, federal prosecutors asked federal court in Manhattan to establish a grand ju judge transcript in a criminal case against Epstein and his former fellow Gislaine Maxwell. Epstein’s federal sex trafficking case was still pending when it was found dead in prison in 2019.

“Based on the outrageous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I asked Attorney General Pam Bondy to generate all relevant large ju court testimony, subject to court approval,” Trump wrote on social media.

Rep. Thomas Massey, a Kentucky Republican who introduced the law to make all the government’s Epstein records public, wrote in a social media post that Trump’s moves indicate that the pressure campaign is “at work.”

“But you need all the files,” Massie added.

It may take some time for the court to release the records, and the large juice documents are only part of an unpublished file.

“How about video, photos and other recordings?” Democrat Daniel Goldman, a former prosecutor, wrote on social media in response to Bondi, saying he was seeking the release of the testimony of the Great Juice. “What about the FBI… (an interview with an eyewitness)? What about texts and emails?”

More than 30 people have been killed after Israeli forces fired fire on people seeking food in Gaza, the Ministry of Health says

0

CNN

Israeli forces fired fire on Gazas in search of food aid on the territory, killing at least 32 people, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and witnesses said.

The ministry said the bodies were brought to the Nasser Medical Complex, along with dozens of injured people.

CNN videos from the hospital showed the body lines. One man holding his dead son said, “He just wanted to eat, what can I do?”

It is not clear exactly where the filming took place. Witness Hisham Dalgam said about four kilometers (2.5 miles) have emerged from the aid distribution point run by the controversial Israeli-US aid organization, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

“The gunshots erupted from the soldiers and tanks, as if they were in a fight with us,” he said.

The Israeli military said the forces “identified suspects who approached them during operational activities in the Rafa area.”

The Israeli Defense Force said the troops fired warning shots and were investigating reports of the victims.

The GHF denied that there was an incident on Saturday that was “or near” the distribution site.

“The reported IDF activity died several hours before the site opened, resulting in casualties a few kilometers away from the GHF site, which is most of our understanding.” The GHF added that people seeking assistance have repeatedly warned people not to travel to the site overnight or early in the morning.

However, many Gazans tell CNN that they must move to distribution points a few hours before opening to get the chance to receive assistance. According to multiple UN assessments, food in the strip is scarce and people are hungry.

Most Gazans do not have the means of transport to travel to the GHF centre, so you will need to walk long distances to reach the site.

The Palestinians will recite a prayer for the body of Nasser Hospital on July 19, 2025.

Travis Mellin, a doctor at Nasser Hospital, said Saturday that many of the victims suffered “serious” gunshot wounds to the torso and head.

Hundreds of people have been killed while trying to access aid in Gaza, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said since the GHF (private group) began operating on the strip in May. He said nearly 800 people died this way between late May and July 7th. Of these, 615 people were killed near the GHF site.

“The food here is a privileged luxury,” Dr. Mellin told CNN. “If you’re lucky enough to leave some money behind, you’re the only people who can afford real food. Everyone else will go to these massacre sites.

The communications director for UNRWA, a UN agency that provides relief to Palestinian refugees, told CNN that Gaza’s current aid distribution system is “a death trap to starve Palestinians,” and that the organization is asking for once again to lead aid efforts.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has put on an optimistic note about the ongoing ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.

“In Gaza, we’ve regained most of the hostages,” he said Friday evening. “We will soon be reaching another 10, and we hope that it will end pretty quickly.

Despite Trump’s positive outlook, the two parties in the conflict once again denounced another round of ceasefire speech, releasing a statement on Friday, accusing others of limping in negotiations.

Hamas warned that if Israel does not agree to work fully towards war in its current lecture, it cannot “guaranteed” that it will agree to a suspension of future conflict.

In the past, Israel has not been keen to agree to a permanent ceasefire and has said it would like to continue fighting in the Gaza Strip until Hamas is eradicated.

Hamas spokesman Abu Obaida said if Israel fails to comply with its demands, the extremist groups can’t guarantee that 10 living hostages will be released as part of a ceasefire deal.

“It has become clear that (Israel Prime Minister Benjamin) the Netanyahu government is not really worried about prisoners just because they are soldiers,” he continued.

Israeli officials told reporters that one of the key obsessions in negotiations was that the negotiators called “release keys,” the criteria and ratios identified for release in swaps — the Israeli government refused to discuss until there was a final agreement on where Israel would place Israel.

Israel accused Hamas of “drinking his legs” and said it was willing to respond flexibly to consultations.

Epstein Saga you need to know about Trump’s latest twist

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is under attack after defending his administration’s handling of disclosures regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case.

In a lawsuit filed on July 18, Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages for the publication of a Wall Street Journal article, and said the future president wrote an indecent letter to Epstein on his 50th birthday.

“We have just filed a great power lawsuit against anyone involved in publishing “useless “shattered,” or “fake news,” in the Wall Street Journal, “fake news,” “fake news,” articles,” Trump wrote on social media.

He filed the lawsuit the day after he directed Attorney General Pam Bondy to produce more Epstein documents in the public cry of the records – the charming Trump said he didn’t understand what he called a “pretty boring” incident.

And on July 19, Trump doubted that upcoming record releases would satisfy his critics.

“It’s always more, more, more,” Trump told social media.

Here’s what you need to know about Trump’s latest developments in the dealings of embarrassing financiers and convicted sex offenders who died in a Manhattan prison in 2019, awaiting federal sex trafficking trials.

What does Trump want?

Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages from the parent company, owner and two reporters who claim honorable lib and slander.

According to Reuters, the $10 billion award in recent history will far outweigh the biggest honour and settlement in recent history.

To win, Trump must prove that the Wall Street Journal acted in 1964, which acted on “actual malicious” set by the Supreme Court.

The court in March refused to appeal from top Republican donors and former casino tycoon Steve Wynn, asking the court to overturn the ruling.

What did the Wall Street Journal report?

In a story released on July 17, IST was part of a leather-bound birthday book that described a letter written by the journal from Trump and contained dozens of other letters presented to Epstein in 2003. Trump’s letter ends with “Happy Birthday.”

According to the journal, the Trump signature, written in the form of text within the hand-drawn outline of a naked woman, is written in the hand-drawn outline of a naked woman, “Donald” beneath the waist, mimicking pubic hair.”

How did the Wall Street Journal respond to Trump’s lawsuit?

A Dow Jones spokesperson said on July 18 that the Wall Street Journal would endure the story. “We are completely confident in the strictness and accuracy of our reporting and will strongly defend any lawsuit,” the spokesman said.

What new Epstein files does Trump want to release?

After Trump instructed Bondi to prepare more Epstein documents on July 17, federal prosecutors followed up a motion filed in federal court in Manhattan on July 18 to establish a major ju court transcript in a criminal case against Epstein and his former associate Githlane Maxwell.

“Based on the outrageous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I asked Attorney General Pam Bondy to generate all relevant large ju court testimony, subject to court approval,” Trump wrote on social media.

Epstein’s federal sex trafficking case was still pending when it was found dead in prison in 2019.

It was partially troublesome for Trump after his Justice Department released the memo on July 7th. He said that Epstein’s further disclosures were not justified. However, it is not clear which parts of the government’s Epstein file are being addressed by its testimony.

When will new information be released?

It may take some time for the court to release the records, and the large juice documents are only part of an unpublished file.

“How about video, photos and other recordings?” Democrat Daniel Goldman, a former prosecutor, wrote on social media in response to Bondi, saying he was seeking the release of the testimony of the Great Juice. “What about the FBI… (an interview with an eyewitness)? What about texts and emails?”

Meanwhile, Congress is also considering another, non-binding solution that calls for the release of Epstein records. The House Rules Committee proceeded with the resolution in a partisan vote on July 17th. Democrats opposed the measure because it was not binding.

What information about Epstein released previously?

Trump previously accused the Biden administration of hiding Epstein’s client list.

The Justice Department teased that more files would come out, but then on July 7th, Bondi said there was no client list and no further disclosure needed.

It led to a wave of backlash from Trump’s Maga base.

What was Trump’s relationship with Epstein?

His relationship with Trump with Epstein, which he socially knew, drove him out since his first term. In 2019, Trump said he “falls out” with Epstein, which he described as a “palm beach fixture” in the mid-2000s.

Trump hasn’t explained why, but the 2019 Washington Post story explains the power struggles that two men had over the Oceanfront Palm Beach Mansion that year.

In 2022, Trump called Epstein a “great man.”

“He’s so much fun being with him,” Trump told New York Magazine. “He likes beautiful women just like me, and it’s been said that many of them are on the younger side.”

Is the Trumps in the Epstein Files?

Trump has already appeared in Epstein’s crime legal documents, but it’s not a way to imply him.

In the 1990s, Trump rode an aircraft owned by Epstein, according to flight logs released in two lawsuits. But that was over 30 years ago.

Palm Beach County State Attorney’s documents featured images of message pad communications seized during a Palm Beach police search, but it is just Trump’s name and phone number.

Scotty Schaeffler made the most of the second round and led the third day of the 153rd Open Championship.

The world’s No. 1 and tournament favourite was in the second round at Royal Port Rush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, shooting a 7-under par 64 when zoomed to the top of the leaderboard. Schaeffler will be sitting on -10 entering the third round on Saturday, July 19th. One stroke is better than Matt Fitzpatrick.

Schaeffler shot a 3-under 68 on the first day, shooting one shot from the lead in the first round. He grabbed Fitzpatrick and lead share in the second round after a 17-foot birdie putt in the 16-foot hole.

Two different groups are bundled behind them. Brian Herman and Haotong Lee are tied up at 8 under, with five other people sitting in -5 in the third round. Hometown’s favorite, Rory McIlroy, opens day 3 tied up on the 12th day at -3.

USA Today Sports will host full round 3 coverage from Royal Portrush, so be sure to check out live updates.

Scotty Schaeffler took the lead again on the 7th on the Eagle putt, while Fitzpatrick continued walking into the same hole with birdie putts. Schaeffler is currently 12 under and has a pair of Perfleurs to close his first nine holes. Rory McIlroy is back five times after another long putt for the Eagle in par 5 12th place for 532 yards.

McIlroy’s tee shot in No. 1 escaped off the fairway, but he made up for it with the second shot, earning a reasonable shot on birdie. His 36-foot birdie putt is true, and he repeated feats in the second hole, winning the Masters Champion 5-under for the tournament.

Canada’s Corey Connors had their third round to sneak up towards the top of the leaderboard to get a chance with a top 10 finish. The Connors jumped to 41 locations since the start of the third round, with second round leader Scotty Schaeffler having 4 unders and six shots from the set set.

John Parry, who had a hole-in-one at 192 yards No. 13, also moved to the tie in 10th place in the round 5-under. Bryson DeDanbaugh finishes his third round and will begin playing on Sunday at 2 under after the age of 68 on Saturday.

Virus Tiktok tells us the truth about ghosts

0

play

Match that perfect paper person on dating app. You interact for a few days, butterflies flap in your stomach. A great first date comes quickly. Check in for the third date and then check the crickets. Nada. Jillch. What gives?

You’ve been ghosted. It is a too common phenomenon in the digital age, and your dates will lose interest and reduce communication. Yes, you’re crazy for you, but is that terrible for your loved one too?

The recent virus Tiktok, who has seen 1.6 million views, said, “I just know that when you ghost me, you’re not punishing me. You’re punishing my best friend. You’re talking about all the scenarios that led you and me to ghost 150,000 times, so they have to listen to it, so I’m going to talk about all the scenarios that led you and you.

Just like Tiktok, those who are stupid will encourage mental health professionals to frame your feelings as punishment to loved ones, discouraging “ghoster” from protecting you.

“It’s important to remember that Ghoster’s behavior ultimately reflects your emotional handicap and impairment in your value system,” said Cecille Ahrens, a licensed clinical social worker. “They often get themselves injured and lack the right relationships and communication tools to navigate more complex emotions.”

“Ghosts prevent the development of these important relationship skills.”

Date long enough, and you’ve probably been ghosted and/or ghosted yourself. Press the “Mute” button on your phone to block the number and ignore that notification bubble. Everything is easy. But actions have consequences.

“The ghosts in my clinical opinion are a form of emotional neglect and a form of conflict avoidance,” says Arlenth. “In extreme cases, it could be part of a larger pattern of emotional abuse on the part of Ghosters.”

Sometimes ghosts can be understood, even if they are rude. “It makes sense to have a hard time communicating if you are experiencing a depression episode or are burned out and you can’t put your thoughts together,” says Shashoua, a licensed clinical social worker. “Ideally, it’s to let people know that you’re struggling and that response will be delayed.”

In a healthy and safe relationship, honest communication in advance is still the course of best action. “Learning how to tackle difficult situations and have rewarding conversations is an emotional skill required in a healthy relationship,” adds Laura Pettiford, a licensed marriage and family therapist. “Entering ghosts will hinder the development of these important relationship skills.”

Yes, it’s okay to talk to friends and family for support.

How a ghost responds depends on your trauma. “In my experience, when a ghost has a particular history of abandonment, abuse or rejection, they tend to suffer a lot, and often tend to internalize and personalize Ghoster’s behavior,” adds Ahrens.

So it’s no wonder people reach out to their loved ones to lick their wounds. But don’t let this viral (although uncomfortable) tiktok cloud your thoughts.

However, there is no problem seeking expert help if you notice that you are ghosts over and over again, especially if you find yourself overly engrossed and significantly tormented by the ghost act.”

Please wait the next time you are waiting for that text. Take a deep breath. They will text you back or won’t. And that’s fine.

19 injured after a fireworks show failed at a German fair

Berlin
AP

German authorities say at least 19 people have been injured and four have been seriously injured after a failed fair in a western city in Dusseldorf.

Firefighters and emergency services unfolded after the incident at the Rainkilms event along the Rhine River late Friday. There, images of the site show fireworks approaching at the ground level along the bank.

The child was among the injured, DPA news agency reported.

The Dusseldorf Fire Forces said police were investigating the cause of the accident.

“Our idea is with the affected people and their families. We hope that all people will have an impact on a rapid recovery from the outcome of the accident. We deeply regret the accident.”

Organizers had concluded the fair early in the day and had decided whether to continue with traditional fireworks at next year’s event, he said.

The 10-day fair features amusement park rides, drones, firework shows, and other entertainment with hundreds of staff along the left bank of the Rhine, opposite the city’s historic district. The fair is held by the St. Sebaschanas Rifle Club, which traces its history up to 1316.

Move the first female director of the Hegseth Navy Academy to new post

If confirmed by the Senate, the new leader of the Naval Academy will be the first Marine General to hold the post.

play

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Pete Hegses is changing leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy, replacing the first woman and moving the honorable post to be placed on the first Marine General.

Hegses announced Friday that Vice Admiral Michael J. Borglug’s Marine Corps has been appointed superintendent of the Naval Academy by President Donald Trump, who hopes that current superintendent Vice President Yvette David will replace him as head of the Naval Operations Staff.

The move is the latest change in the military’s top since the confirmation of Hegses. He and Trump fired Air Force General CQ Brown, the military’s most senior officer. There was also Vice-General Lisa Francetti, the first woman to lead the Navy.

Before being appointed Secretary of Defense, Heggs said in a podcast interview that “Straight” does not belong to the military combat role. He overturned his position a few weeks later as he faced a difficult path to confirming the Senate.

David, who has overseen the Naval Academy since January 2024, has been moved from his premier position than his usual tenure. However, unless Congress approves the exemption, she has not retired, as is necessary for a former supervisor.

In a statement, Navy’s secretary John C. Phelan said that both David and Borgschult “represent the finest naval service.”

David is honored to have been appointed vice chief of naval operations and looks forward to “continuing to serve alongside America’s most powerful fighter planes.”

Both David and Borgulte must be confirmed by the Senate.

“Nothing has changed”: Iran tries to boost proxy groups when the US speaks stalls

0

CNN

Iran’s armed proxies are putting pressure on key points in the Middle East as Tehran is trying to restructure its regional impact.

Yemen’s Tehran’s Hooti allies last week ended a few months of calm in the Red Sea, and took a strike on two commercial vessels driving through key waterways. Iraqi proxies are suspected of disruptions in oil production in the Kurdish region, and the shipments of hundreds of rockets bound by Lebanon’s Hezbollah have been intercepted by Syrian forces over the past few months.

The increased activity by proxy reflects Iran’s determination to continue supporting a network of destructive armed groups, despite not stopping the recent US attack on Israeli soil. But so far, neither the US nor Iran appears to be trying to make a big compromise.

“Iran never tried to stop the group supply,” said Michael Knights, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute, specializing in military and security issues in Iraq, Iran and the Gulf countries.

“They may not be able to send this on a large or regular basis — more may be intercepted, but if you are now a QUDS force of revolutionary security (Iranian) then what you are trying to show is, “We are still there, we are unharmed, nothing has changed.”

Last month, Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran, targeting and killing key military figures, including head of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Hossein Salami, who is important to maintain and expand the Islamic Republic’s regional proxy network.

But even if Iran is upset by the loss of key military figures, it shows that it is still keen to arm those proxies, which still sees it as strategic assets to expand regional leverage.

Smoke will rise in North Tehran on June 23, 2025.

Just three days after a ceasefire was declared between Iran and Israel, the ship carrying 750 tons of Iran missiles and military equipment, including missiles, drone engines and radar systems, was intercepted in the Red Sea by forces loyal to Yemen’s exiled government, the US Central Command said Wednesday. He added that “large Iranian weapons shipping” is doomed to the Houtis.

The intercept marked the “largest weapon attack” in the history of the Yemeni National Resistance Force (NRF), according to the US military.

Iran’s foreign ministry denied that it sent weapons and called it a “deceived attempt” by the US to “distract public opinion.”

Yemeni Houtis used Iranian weapons to launch attacks on both Israel and commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Last week, attacks on a Greek-owned ship killed four crews, wounded others, and 11 people disappeared, European Union Naval Operations told CNN. The six on board were captured by Houthis, who told CNN by Vanguard Tech, a UK-based maritime risk management company.

A screen glove shot from a handout video released on July 8th. Liberia packed in Greek-operated bulk carriers, a smoke plume that is said to be the MV Magic Seas attacked from southwest Yemen.

A few days ago, Houthis used unmanned boats, missiles and drones to target the magical sea, a bulk carrier in the Liberian Formation.

The attack that sunk two ships appeared to indicate an escalation of force, first recorded this year after months of calm in busy waterways.

Over the past few months, suspected groups of Iranian support groups have increased attacks on Iraq’s western allies, destabilizing oil production in the country’s Kurdish-controlled regions.

The two oil fields run by US companies said on Wednesday that Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) official Aziz Ahmad was attacked after a “satch of drone attacks” by “criminal militias.”

“KRG welcomed US investments and businesses. Now, the same investors are pushed out in a calculated campaign to strangle us financially,” Ahmad said in X.

A wave of smoke from damaged oil installations at the Sarsan oil field after a drone attack in Shamanke district, near Dohuk, the Kurdish city of northern Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region.

A spokesman for KRG Peshawa Hawramani told CNN that the drone attack was “intentionally to destroy energy infrastructure,” and that KRG “cannot use this as a leverage for contracts or rely on it as a source of revenue, as it ensures that it is not capable of producing oil and gas.”

The KRG’s Home Ministry condemned the attack earlier this month on a popular mobilising unit, a paramilitary force based in Iraq, supported by mainly Shia Iran.

“These attacks are being carried out with the aim of creating chaos,” the Interior Ministry said earlier this month after a bomb-bearing drone landed near KRG Capital Erbil.

Regional impacts in Iran have been significantly weakened since the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023 and the subsequent Israeli campaign from the region.

Iran’s key allies in Lebanon, Hezbollah, have tried to support Hamas by launching rockets across the border since October 7th and opening a second front against Israel. Since then, the group has been heavily weakened, losing its once dominant influence in Lebanon, and its fighter planes have been targeted by an almost day Israeli strike, facing internal and western demands for disarming.

Hassan Nasrara, the group’s respected leader, was killed in an Israeli strike last year, and the key supply route in Syria was lost in the fall of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s important ally, President Bashar al-Assad.

He holds a photo of the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrara, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last year on the day of the public funeral held in Beirut, Lebanon, on February 23rd.

“Hezbollah has lost its shaking and they have lost credibility at their base. Of course, Iranians are trying to strengthen some of their proxies to strengthen their negotiation hands, but they have not made much progress,” a local official told CNN.

Still, sources from another region told CNN that Hezbollah could “reorganize over the next few weeks” for fear of escalation from Israel. Hezbollah feels that he is in a “existential situation” due to the loss of Syria and the increasing pressures inside Lebanon.

Attempts to drive away Iran’s Hezbollah have been ongoing for the past year. According to the Syrian Ministry of Interior, the new Syrian government, stubbornly opposed to Iran, seized some cargo of Lebanon-bound weapons.

Last month, Syrian Home Affairs Ministry said in a statement that it had attempted to smuggle anti-tank cornet missiles, the same type that Hezbollah used to target Israeli tanks in southern Lebanon. Syrian police said the weapons were hidden in trucks carrying vegetables to the countryside of Homs, adjacent to Lebanon.

The first local sources to speak to CNN questioned Tehran’s purpose in arming a proxy group that proved ineffective in protecting Iran or that they had achieved the stated mission of “liberating Jerusalem.”

“Why is Hezbollah still armed? What is their arms giving them? It doesn’t give them protection, did it not bring them nearly an inch to Jerusalem? What are these weapons doing except that it causes misery to civilians?” the source said.

Soldiers with Syrian Ministry of Defense were soldiers in the home that Militias who supported Hezbollah and Iran used as weapon storage for Palmyra in Syria in March 2025.

The restructuring of groups across Iran’s Middle East is because US President Donald Trump demonstrates his declining interest in negotiations with Tehran.

“They want to negotiate badly. We’re not in a hurry… We’ve bombed hell from various places around them. If they want to negotiate, we’re here,” Trump said Wednesday.

Ali Larijani, senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, dismissed the idea that the story is imminent and downplayed their importance.

“Now is not time for meetings. Negotiations are tactics… We’ll wait and see if the Supreme Leader thinks it is useful,” Larijani said in a television statement Friday.

The sixth round of negotiations was scheduled for June 15th, but the Israeli surprise attack disrupted plans the day before.

Experts say restructuring of local armed groups and introducing destructive capabilities could serve as leverage for Iran, as it appears to negotiate from its strength status despite recent losses.

“In theory, they’ll strengthen their hands to show that they’re just rolling and not subordinate. They want to look rebellious, but the US isn’t just bumping into them,” Knights said.

Has Pam Bondy indicted Jeffrey Epstein as Florida AG?

0

play

  • Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondy could have legally indicted Jeffrey Epstein for child sex offences while in office, but whether she felt she should be forced is another question.
  • Despite evidence from numerous minor victims, Epstein was charged with a single count of solicitation for prostitution in 2006, and ultimately served only in prison for 13 months.

When U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy was Florida’s Chief Justice Officer, did she indict Jeffrey Epstein’s fellow child sex crimes?

Legally, yes, she may have, legal experts say. But the bigger question is whether she should have felt compelled to do so.

Bondi’s Justice Department announced on July 7 that there is no evidence of Epstein’s “client list” and further documents about the late wealthy palm beecher and sexual predators will be released despite her previous promises.

President Donald Trump has tried to survive the subsequent political fires after some of his MAGA supporters sought more transparency in the Epstein case.

What happened to the Jeffrey Epstein incident in Palm Beach County?

Epstein was charged in 2006 by the Palm Beach County Grand Ju Trial for one count of solicitation for prostitution, despite hearing only from two minor victims.

Prosecutors of then-state attorney Barry Christture had been blocking his case during a secret case. The Palm Beach Post fought in court for nearly five years to release his transcript. They were released in July 2024.

Palm Beach police found dozens of girls and young women who spoke similar stories of sexual abuse at an Epstein Island mansion. When police chief Michael Writer at the time saw that Christian prosecutors were not in line with the lawsuits his department had built, he sent his evidence to the federal government. If the charges had reflected that evidence, Epstein would have faced decades in prison.

Ultimately, Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to just two prostitution-related felonies in a “deal of the century” arranged by both Christian and federal prosecutors. He was sentenced to 18 months in the county jail, serving 13 of which. He went out in July 2009.

Who is Pam Bondi?

Bondy became Florida’s first female attorney general in 2011. She worked until 2019, representing Trump in his first bounce each procedure later that year.

Born in the Tampa area, she worked as an assistant state attorney for Hillsboro County. In other cases, Major League pitcher Dwight pleaded guilty to speeding from a police DUI traffic stop in 2005 before violating his probation.

Was it Pam Bondy’s negligence not to investigate Epstein?

Despite the fact that Epstein had already been convicted of a Palm Beach County crime, federal prosecutors in New York leveled up sex trafficking charges against Epstein in July 2019. Epstein died less than a month after his arrest in a Manhattan prison.

Bondi had to consider Epstein’s crimes during his prison release in 2009 and during his filing of the 2019 criminal charges.

That’s not necessarily the case, says Robert Jarvis, a law professor at Nova Southeaston University.

“There was no reason to start a new investigation,” he said, unless someone brought it to Bondi.

Some of the 2019 cases were also based in Florida. At least two Palm Beach County victims testified in the Githrain Maxwell case.

“Of course, the federal and state governments are two different political groups, both of which have the power to use their respective laws to test the same person with the same crime,” Jarvis said. “So Pam Bondy might have tried Epstein.”

But what about her?

“I wouldn’t criticize her for doing nothing because of what appears to have been ruled, dealt with and punishment being handed out,” Jarvis said.

Volcanoes in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii

0

play

Volcanoes in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii are spitting out lava enough to cause a swarm of news stories. But despite the shock and intense heartbeat, geologists say there is no cause for the alarm.

“Volcanoes are unpredictable and there is always a chance that something bad can happen, but these recent seismic events along the Pacific Ring from Alaska to Washington to offshore Oregon probably don’t directly relate to each other.

“This is what a volcano does,” she said. “They come back to life for a while. Sometimes seismic activity leads to eruptions, sometimes not.”

Most of the US volcanoes that had been signaling themselves since spring woke up, shaking and falling asleep.

Two in Hawaii and the other in Alaska, are in the middle of active, but relatively small, non-threatening eruptions.

It may all look ominous, but it’s not. It is simply a part of the life of a dynamic and seismically active planet.

There is no direct connection to any of these, Rupert said. “The distance between these (earthquake) activity centers is thousands of miles.”

Recent US volcanic activity

Volcanoes have always been part of the geography of the West Coast, but this may seem to be a particularly busy time for these mountains, caused by cracks in the Earth’s crust, for these mountains descending into the mantle below.

But seismologists and volcanologists are paying attention to them, Rupert said. “This is why the federal government funds earthquake and volcano monitoring efforts internally and through the USGS sector.”

Consider these events:

  • Over 300 earthquakes were hit by Mount Rainier in Washington in early July. This is the largest earthquake swarm ever recorded on a volcano. The herd, a cluster of earthquakes in the same area, began on July 8th. Within two days, 334 earthquakes were identified by the Pacific Northwest Earthquake Network. But that’s not so unusual for a majestic volcano about 70 miles southeast of Seattle. Seattle registered a similar earthquake in 2009. However, Rainier’s final eruption was about 1,000 years ago, Ruppert said.
  • In northern Washington, Alaska has three volcanoes that make you feel yourself now.
    • As of July 10th, Alaska’s great Sitkin volcano in the Aleu Islands was at alert level for lava erupting clocks in the Summit Crater. The level of earthquakes was sometimes low with small earthquakes, according to the USGS. The eruption began in May 2021. Lava has been erupting at the summit since July 2021.
    • On Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula, there was a gust of wind from a small earthquake that shook the Iliamna volcano on June 15th. However, on July 1st, the volcano was set to the normal warning code.
    • Mount Sprue, another Alaska volcano north of Iliamna, has been experiencing shallow earthquake swarms since February. It is currently at the normal level of advisory. For now, there are few concerns, Rupert said.
  • Seismicians are also monitoring the sailors on the axis, a huge undersea volcano 300 miles off the coast, down the west coast. It has been attracting attention for several months as scientists prepare for the expected eruption in 2025. It’s underwater so far, so only scientists using a series of instruments know about the eruption.

The volcano is a seismically active region that stretches from the southern tip of South America, known as The Ring of Fire, what is called The Ring of Fire, a 25,000-mile horseshoe volcano, and extends along the US west coast, Alaska’s west coast, from Japan to New Zealand.

According to the US Geological Survey, it is the world’s most seismic and volcanic active zone, created by the Pacific upper plates sinking beneath the North American plate.

Eruptions in Hawaii

To the west of Hawaii, Mount Kilauea continues to erupt, but as of July 11th it does not show the lava fountain seen at the beginning of the month. On July 9, the USGS said the recent eruption had ended.

Hawaiian volcanoes are not part of the ring of fire. The island’s chains were formed by volcanic hotspots that produced 15 volcanoes extending 3,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean (still is).

In Hawaii, volcanoes are the result of heat sources deep in the Earth’s mantle. Magma plumes coming from underwater hotspots move slowly over the Pacific plate (2-4 inches per year).

That’s why the oldest volcano in Hawaii in Kauai is 5.5 million years old, and the most recent big island is “only 700,000 years” and is still growing.

The Syrian government says it is deploying its troops to rise south a week after the violence

Syrian security forces are beginning to move to the restful province of Sweida a few days after the joint battle, where hundreds of people were killed, the country’s interior ministry says.

The clashes between the Druze Groups and the Bedouin tribe have continued in Suwayda since last week, threatening the stability of the Damascus government, seeking to control the complex and unstable sectarian landscape of Syria.

The violence has led Israel to carry out a strike against Syrian government forces. This is said to protect the Druze, a significant minority in both countries. Israel has also expressed vigilance about Syria’s new Islamic-led government despite contact between the two to ensure security.

There were reports of sporadic violence that continued on Saturday. Both the Bedouin and Druze groups issued a statement indicating they were ready to accept a ceasefire, but one Druze fact demanded that the Bedouin leave Sweida.

“Following the bloody events caused by outlaw groups, we have begun the deployment of internal security forces as part of our national mission with the main goal of protecting civilians and restoring order,” Interior Ministry spokesman Noor Al Dean Baba said.

On Saturday, black smoke rises above a building in Sweida city in southern Syria.

After some time, the Syrian presidency declares what is called an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire for the state, asking the nation to allow it to “enforce this ceasefire, ensure stability and stop bloodshed.”

In a TV statement on Saturday, Syrian President Ahmed Arshala said the events in Sweida “marked a dangerous turning point in Syria’s security and political landscape.”

Alshara also mentioned Israeli airstrikes in Sweida and Damascus last week. He said it “has rekindled tensions and pushed the country into a critical phase that threatens its current stability.”

Referring to Israel’s support for several Druze groups in Sweida, Arshala said, “Several figures encouraged by foreign support showed separatist ambitions and leading groups that committed murder and abuse.”

He once again promised to protect Druze, who had been wary of his government, and called for the unity of the people.

“Syria is not a playground for separatism or sectarian instigation. Now, more than ever, it is essential to return to the path of reason and gather in a unified national foundation,” Al Shara said.

After US mediation aimed at ending violence and halting Israeli airstrikes, Alshara thanked the Trump administration for its “commitment to country’s stability.”

Alshara’s statement said Syria and Israel agreed to a new ceasefire in Sweida late on Friday following an announcement by US envoys to Thomas Barrack in Syria.

A video of Earth Reclamation from the city of Sweeda early Saturday showed dark smoke rising pillars and sporadic gunfire sounds. However, Druze and Bedouin groups have shown that they will accept a ceasefire once government forces are deployed.

Beduin fighters gather in the northern part of Sweida, the Druze majority province in southern Syria.

A Bedouin group, represented by a gathering of southern tribes, said it had declared a “immediate and comprehensive halt of all military actions,” calling it “ensures that channels for dialogue and coordination will not recur.”

One Druze group, deeply involved in the conflict, said it was ready to accept the ceasefire on Saturday. The spiritual leadership faction led by Hikmat Al-Hijri said it is updating its call to “return to our shared humanity.”

However, al-Hijri, who refused the previous ceasefire, later called on the Bedouins to leave the state for altogether, demanding that Syrian security forces be deployed only at the state’s borders.

The Israeli government argued that Sweida should be a non-armed zone with no boundaries for government forces.

But amid ongoing violence, Israel said Friday that a limited presence of internal security forces would allow for order to be restored in Sweida.

On Friday, the Syrian Human Rights Network said it had recorded at least 321 deaths in Sweida since last Sunday when the clashes began. It said there were “extrajudicial killings, mutual artillery fire, similar to airstrikes carried out by Israeli occupation forces.”
