Antonio Brown downplays his gorgeous lifestyle during a bankruptcy case

In a social media post, Antonio Brown appears to be living a luxurious life in the United Arab Emirates.

However, he said the reality is different in the appearance that the court mandated as part of his bankruptcy case.

Brown poses questions about his finances and social media activities during the August 1 Creditors’ Meeting in his Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Case, and downplays the gorgeous lifestyle that he appears to have lived in Dubai for the past seven weeks. The former NFL wide receiver said he doesn’t have a cryptocurrency account, does not own jewelry, does not own an expensive sports car he saw driving in a social media post, and does not pay rent in the UAE.

“I actually stay here with some people, my siblings,” Brown said when asked about his life arrangements.

The 37-year-old refused to specify who owns the property he is staying in, or who is paying rent, but he said the person is not an American citizen.

Brown also showed that he could soon return to the US. There is a warrant for his arrest after being charged with attempted second-degree murder on June 11th. The charges stem from alleged altercations outside an amateur boxing event held in Miami on May 16th.

“Hopefully, yes,” Brown said when asked if he plans to return to the US at some point in the near future.

As Brown is asked to be required to be deposited in a bankruptcy case, the questions came in the scheduling context. He has an aggressive warrant for his arrest, so he will likely be detained by customs and border protection when he returns to the US.

A State Department spokesman declined to comment earlier this week when USA Today Sports asked if Brown could be handed over from the United Arab Emirates. The spokesman cited the department’s longstanding policy not to comment on the possible existence of extradition requests.

Brown filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024, according to court records, and his case was converted to Chapter 7 – a form of bankruptcy in which the court can seize assets, earn wages, and pay off creditors. The longtime Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has publicly estimated he made more than $100 million during his NFL career, and now owes more than $3.5 million to a small number of creditors.

Brown was ordered to appear at creditors meeting on Friday. This is also known as the 341 Conference after failing to provide the necessary financial documents to the US trustee who oversees his case, Leslie Osborne. Brown joined the meeting minutes later than what looked like a hotel room in Dubai.

Creditor meetings are not court hearings and are not supervised by judges. But nonetheless, they play a key role in the early stages of the bankruptcy process, requiring the debtor to answer questions about finances under perjury penalties. Friday’s meeting was held to the public.

Osborne’s lawyer, D. Brett Marks, asked some questions about his life at Brown Dubai and some of his activities on social media. This includes a June 26 post from X, in which the former NFL Wideout posted a screenshot of its account balance over $24 million with the caption “Bankruptcy.” Brown replied that it was an old post and that he doesn’t have a $24 million account.

Brown also provided an unclear answer when asked about how he is making money and paying for his current lifestyle. When asked about his video clips driving a gorgeous sports car that he posted on social media, he refused to own a UAE car, suggesting that such clips could have been manufactured by artificial intelligence. When asked further, Brown said that sports cars may be accessible as part of a promotional arrangement with car rental companies.

Osborne, the trustee tasked with helping Brown pay off his debts, said at the start of the meeting he received only two of the bank statements requested from seven pro bowlers. Brown told Osborne he would work with his lawyer to provide the requested document, including the original deed for one of the homes he owns in Florida.

During the latest court hearing in Brown’s bankruptcy case on July 24, Judge Peter Rassin said Brown’s case “hangs in the balance” if it did not provide financial documents and followed court rules.

“He really wants to explain to him that he has his future in his hands,” Rasin said at the hearing. “He can resolve all this very simply by doing what he has to do anyway, and leave his financial situation in general.”

How a watch stolen from Keanu Reeves in Los Angeles went into the hands of Chilean gangsters

0

Six watches stolen from Los Angeles actor Keanu Reeves were handed over to the FBI this week at the US embassy, nearly 9,000 kilometres, and returned to its owners.

The discovery of the gorgeous watch was “situational,” the embassy said it happened during a broader police investigation into the robbery of a home in the eastern part of the Chilean capital. Authorities were targeting criminal groups, but they never imagined the impact would extend to Hollywood.

“In 2023, the gang was committing robbery crimes. As they were fenced and widely reported for the violence (cases) used, some of these individuals migrated and began committing crimes overseas using the same tricks. Balas explained that if the gang tried to break into an empty house, they would act violently.

During the operation and the attack, investigators found one of the suspects at the house of the commune in Penaloren. There, we found some valuable items, including watches.

“One of the detectives who liked the John Wick movie series managed to recognize the item,” Ballas said. “He was reading stories about (stunt) doubles. Each one was given a clock. We followed them and actually played the game,” he added.

In 2021, Reeves presented the Rolex submarine to the stunt crew he worked with in John Wick: Chapter 4. Each had his name on his back with a caption. “Thank you, JW4, 2021, John Wick Five.”

Prosecutor Claudia Balaza said at the embassy’s handover ceremony there was no evidence that the criminal group that broke into Reeves’s home was the same as the one that brought their watch to Chile.

But Ballas pointed out that authorities seized a cell phone used by individuals allegedly robbed. With that device, they found photos taken in the US showing the watch, gun and the actor’s driver’s license in question.

Details of the seized Rolex Watch with the name Keene Reeves and reference to John Wick in the film.

Ballas said that due to legal issues, he had to wait for the actor to make sure he was his possessions and recognized them from photos from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ironically, in John Wick Saga, Reeves plays the original hitman in search of revenge after his house was robbed (and his dog was killed). However, the 2023 incident is not the only intrusion the movie star has experienced. In 2014, months before the release of the series’ first film, Los Angeles police reported two break-ins at home in three days, but no robbery was reported in these cases.

According to Hugo Hager, assistant director of Chilean police and criminal investigations, the 2023 robbery was believed to have resulted in Reeves’ losses of $7 million.

CNN has contacted the FBI for details on the case.

Varas says it is “always” coordinated with security agencies in other countries. This includes exchanging information.

One aspect of the investigation is determining how the stolen items entered Chile. The lieutenant governor has shown that gangs most commonly use the parcel system or send items through tourists with no criminal history. Therefore, the clock could have easily passed airport security on the wrists of travelers who did not raise any doubt.

“Watches are valuable possessions. There are people who are dedicated to collecting them. If it’s a brand, it’s important to be unique or it’s a well-known actor, they want that even more,” Balas said. For Reeves’ Rolex Submariner, this model is offered at its official store for over $10,000, but with the actor’s name on the black market, it’s even more valuable.

The fates of other suspicious gang members vary. The brother of the Los Angeles robber perpetrator was convicted of robbery in blackmail and customs fraud. Another suspect, Balas, said he died in a conflict between criminal gangs. Investigators also said that one person traveled to the United States and continued to commit crimes, while another traveled to Argentina where he was arrested for a home robbery in Buenos Aires.

“Unfortunately, we export this type of crime, but we also provide information to law enforcement agencies,” Balas said.

In December, Sheriff Mike Bouchard told Fox 2 that the Chilean “very well trained” was responsible, following the robbery of a home in a wealthy area of Oakland County, Michigan. He demanded that participation in Chile’s visa waiver program be put to an end. This allows citizens to enter the United States without a visa for travelling up to 90 days for tourism and business. His comments sparked a stir in the South American country.

During his recent visit to Chile, Homeland Security Director Christi Noem signed a letter of intent to expand biometric identification with Chile, claiming it was necessary to track off criminals. Regarding visas, she said, “The continued cooperation with Chile’s visa waiver program is invaluable to our country and we are grateful for their partnership in that respect.”

Meanwhile, Blaine Freestone, the assistant law accompaniment to the US Embassy, was responsible for personally presenting the watch to Reeves, emphasizing that “justice is being delivered to victims of cross-border crimes thanks to continued cooperation with Chilean authorities.”

Varas argued that the Visa Waiver Program would generate continued cooperation from law enforcement. “They need our information,” he said.

According to a police report obtained by USA Today Sports, Sha’carri Richardson was arrested after alleged incidents at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Richardson was arrested Sunday for domestic violence, according to the report.

Richardson and his male companions were involved in the verbal altercation when they left the airport through security, the police report said. According to the Seattle Police Department, Richardson allegedly pushed the man and he fell into a nearby column.

According to the report, police saw security footage from the airport, but the video reportedly showed the man trying to leave Richardson, but she continued to bump into him. Police also say Richardson threw headphones at the man.

Richardson was booked Sunday at the Southern Corrections Group in Des Moines, Washington, and was released Monday, prison records show.

“We are aware of this report and have no comments at this time,” Athletics told USA Today Sports.

Richardson ran 11.07 and finished second in the heat in the 100 metres, reaching Friday’s semi-finals at the US track and field championships. Richardson later retreated from the 100 semi-finals and will not run even at 200.

The US Championships will serve as a qualifying tournament for the World Championships. Richardson has goodbye to 100 people at this year’s World Championships, as she is the defending champion.

Richardson won a silver medal in 100 at the 2024 Parisiolmème. She was also part of the 4×100 relay team that won the Team USA gold medal.

Epstein’s house in Florida was the place

The minor girls told investigators that they were assaulted not only in his home in New York, New Mexico and the Virgin Islands, but also in Epstein’s Florida mansion.

The home of deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein can be found on news and on real estate sites.

The 6-bedroom, 7 1/2 bathroom Lake front mansion in Palm Beach, Florida was once owned by Epstein. After his death in 2019, the multi-million dollar home was demolished. Palm Beach Daily News, USA Today Network News.

In 2021, Palm Beach Daily News and Palm Beach Post took photos and videos of the demolition of the Epstein home in Florida.

However, photos of the White House, with crystal blue pools and waterfront views, are still available on sites such as Homes.com and Realtor.com. The site was destroyed and the address was changed. The property website contains details of the property, a public record.

Built in 1952 and sold for $18.5 million in 2021, the Epstein home was a key site where many of the crimes committed by financial operators occurred, investigators said. Minor girls in Palm Beach County told investigators they were attacked at Palm Beach Mansions and at Epstein’s homes in New York, New Mexico and the US Virgin Islands.

When he died of suicide in 2019, Epstein was facing federal charges of conspiracy and sex trafficking. In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to two Florida felony counts, including solicitation of minors. He served almost 13 months at the Palm Beach County Jail before being released on a one-year probation on house arrest until August 2010.

His accomplice and ex-girlfriend Gislaine Maxwell is sentenced to 20 years in prison on federal sexual personnel charges.

Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has been sentenced to house arrest for 12 years

0

Former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe was sentenced to 12 years of house arrest on Friday after being pleaded guilty to procedural fraud and bribery of witnesses.

Uribe had pleaded not guilty. His defense attorneys previously announced they would file an appeal.

Judge Sandra Heredia of the 44th Crown Court in Bogota announced the sentence four days after the former president was convicted of the crime. Heredia has acquitted Uribe, who has another charge against the prosecutor’s suspected bribery.

Uribe, 73, who ruled Colombia from 2002 to 2010, is the country’s first former president to be criminally convicted.

The incident began in 2012 when Uribe, the upcoming Centro Democrats, accused Sen. Ivan Sepeda of the Control Historical Agreement of trying to link him to the creation of a paramilitary group. Cepeda denied the charges.

This changed in 2018 when the Supreme Court of Columbia decided to begin an investigation into Uribe for tampering with eyewitnesses.

After years of investigation and legal appeal in Uribe’s defense, in May 2024, the Colombian prosecutor’s office officially charged with three crimes: procedural fraud, criminal bribery and bribery.

The charges resulted in a 67-day trial, ending this week.

Uribe remained innocent throughout the lawsuit, a position supported by politicians such as former President Ivan Duquet and other opposition politicians. In contrast, figures close to the government celebrated the ruling.

On Tuesday, Cepeda celebrated the decision, informing CNN that she knows there are other means to pursue. “We still have a long way to go,” the senator said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

American Eagle Statement released in Jeans Advertising Drama

American Eagle Outfitters is working on a controversial ad starring actress Sidney Sweeney.

After several days of discourse about an ad campaign starring the “Euphoria” actress, the clothing retailer spoke out in an Instagram post shared on August 1, doubled it.

“‘Sidney Sweeney has great jeans'” has been about jeans up until now. Her jeans. Her story. We will continue to celebrate the way everyone wears AE jeans with confidence,” the statement read. “Amazing jeans look good on everyone.”

The company’s clarification was intended for critics who called Promotion Blitz a veiled attempt to support eugenics.

What was Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad?

The apparel brand’s statement comes more than a week after the brand launched a new campaign starring Sweeney on July 23rd.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based retailer described the fashion campaign as “a return to essential denim dressing,” while Sweeney, who paired 1970s-style flared jeans and denim jackets, described it as “essential denim dressing.”

In one of the several videos in the campaign, Sweeney, dressed in a denim-on-denim fit, dabbles in several word plays and tells the camera:

“My jeans are blue,” Sweeney said in the video.

The Fall 2025 denim campaign featuring Hollywood’s 27-year-old Rising Star will close with each promotional video, “Sydney Sweeney Have Great Jeans.”

As part of the campaign, American Eagle announced that 100% of the purchase price from “Sydney Jean” will go to the Crisis Textline, which provides secret mental health support to those who are obligated to those in need 24/7 by sending a text message to 741741. This collection supports another cause.

Sydney Sweeney ads split social media and pull support from Trump’s White House

Some shoppers found the advertising characterization of blonde hair blue-eyed women with “great genes” a subtle nod to eugenics, a highly controversial and unreliable belief that the population can improve or advance itself through selective breeding.

All over the internet, parody videos began to pop up, enjoying Sweeney and the campaign content.

Musician Dojane took part in and laughed at the “good gene” monologue that caused the original controversy with a hyperbolic “country” accent.

Sweeney has not spoken about the controversy yet, but several prominent GOP members have ringed for her, including Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Vice President JD Vance.

Stephen Chong, White House communications director, a longtime adviser to President Donald Trump, also exacerbated the criticism and called it a “cancelling culture run amok.” He wrote on July 29 that people are “tired” by this idea, saying, “This distorted, moronic, dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024.”

Marcus Collins, a clinical assistant professor of marketing at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, previously told USA Today that scrutiny might be the key when it comes to launching several brands. According to Collins, in 2025, the language takes on an era defined by major brands rolling back diversity and inclusive initiatives.

“This has been quite felt by (corporate) brands these days,” Collins said.

The fear of weakening of the labor market and recession

0

play

The unfortunate July work report threw a bucket of cold water at the economic outlook that appears to be enduring surprisingly well despite President Donald Trump’s high import duties, immigration crackdowns and widespread federal layoffs.

Not only did the employer add a disappointing 73,000 jobs, but it was well below the expected 105,000, but the salary increase in May and June was revised downward at a whopping 258,000. That added 19,000 in May, and 14,000 in June. This is the weakest performance since the country rose from the Covid-19 recession in December 2020.

Until late August 1st, Trump announced that he had ordered the firing of U.S. Labor Statistics Commissioner Erica Mantelfer. The president of the social media post accused Mentarfer of manipulating numbers for “political purposes,” but he did not provide evidence.

Early in the afternoon, the Dow Jones industrial average fell by about 607 points, with the benchmark S&P 500 index being 1.5% off

Over the past three months, the economy has on average earned just 35,000 job benefits.

Here are some takeaways:

This was not a blip

Economists say the poor don’t think they were probably outliers, but they said healthy jobs will resume in the coming months. Consumers are curbing some spending and pulling back travel and recreational activities amid concerns about Trump’s tariffs pushing prices. As more import fees collide with store shelves, Americans will likely lower their spending even further, Pantheon Macroeconomics wrote in a note to clients.

It should lead to weaker jobs benefits, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing, retail, trucking and warehouse, the research firm said.

And on July 31, Trump escalated his global trade battle with a massive round of import taxation.

Meanwhile, executive confidence in the business outlook has been shaken in recent months by tariffs that are narrowing down profitability, which is expected to spell a more pronounced decline in business investment, the Pantheon said.

“Sadly, it appears that employment is set for a summer slowdown as companies facing new cost volatility due to escalating trade tensions focus on managing labor costs through reduced employment, performance-based layoffs, reduced wage growth, and entry-level wage declines.”

And the decline in federal employment will also attract more momentum in the coming months after the Supreme Court recently lifted its stay in the mass federal layoffs,” the Pantheon said.

The Labor Bureau tracked 84,000 federal job losses this year, but the number of acquisitions and job cuts announced was far greater.

Work sector figures show employment across the economy reached its lowest level in 12 months in June.

Will there be a recession in 2025?

After waning over the past few months as Trump delayed many tariffs and reached deals with several countries, the horrifying words have returned to conversation.

“For me, today’s work reporting is going into a recession,” said Josh Bivens, chief economist at the left-leaning Institute for Economic Policy, in a statement. “Certainly, can we lift up? But if we look back and date an official recession that begins three or six months from now, this is what it looks like today.

The recession appears to be “very, very likely” unless Trump lowers tariffs by Labor Day, according to Moody’s analysis chief economist Mark Zandy.

Can slipping through the economy and stock markets lead Trump to the reverse course?

Zandi said the economic outlook and tumbling stock markets are shaking, which could encourage Trump to try to soften import fees. “He’s going to try to pull it back,” he said.

But if he doesn’t act before Labor Day, it would “it’ll be too late,” Zandi said, saying the job will ripple too dramatically, rippling as retail prices and consumer and business sentiment are revoked.

There is a possibility of a Fed rate reduction in September

Following the Fed’s decision to maintain stable interest rates for the Fed’s fifth meeting, at a press conference on July 30, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell described the labor market as solid and balanced. He also said the authorities will focus primarily on unemployment as they decide whether to cut interest rates in September.

The unemployment rate was up to 4.2% in July. That’s still low as Trump’s immigration constraints, particularly deportation, have reduced the workforce, and despite declining demand for employees.

In other words, job seekers are contracted at the same time, ensuring that the unemployment rate is almost stable.

But Morgan Stanley suggested that the acquisition of weak jobs over the past three months would spur the Fed to act in September despite stable unemployment.

“The slower pay pace increases negative side risk and reduces September to the table,” Morgan Stanley said in a research note.

Fed Fund Futures Markets is now at 85% chance that the September rate has risen by 85% from 45% after Powell’s July 30th statement.

AI is beginning to crimulate the profits of work

Professional and business services took over 14,000 jobs in July, and salary increases in the vast white-collar sector have been stagnating for more than two years. The July show included unemployment in computer and technical roles. Staff executives say businesses are replacing many entry-level information technology workers with artificial intelligence.

“It’s happening,” Goldman Sachs chief economist Jan Hatzius said of CNBC after the release of his employment report in July. “This is not the main driving force of the labour market…but we see early signs.”

Putin said Russian Hi-sonic missiles will enter service and be deployed in Belarus

0

Moscow
AP

President Vladimir Putin said Friday that Russia has reaffirmed its plans to launch production of its latest hypersonic missiles and deploy them to allies later this year.

Putin sat with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Valaam Island near St. Petersburg and said the military had already selected Belarusian deployment sites for ballistic missiles in the Oleshnik intermediate range.

“Preparation work is ongoing and we will probably do that by the end of the year,” Putin said, adding that Oleshnik and the first series of his system have been produced and entered military service.

Russia first used Oleshnik, the Russian word for “hazelnut tree,” against Ukraine in November when it launched experimental weapons at a Dnipro factory where it built missiles when it was part of the Soviet Union.

Putin praises Oreshnik’s capabilities, saying multiple warheads plunging into targets at speeds up to Mach 10 will be intercepted, and using some of them on one traditional strike could be as devastating as a nuclear attack.

He warned the West that it could be used against Ukrainian NATO allies, which allowed Moscow to attack with longer-range missiles within Russia.

The chief of the Russian missile forces declared that Oleshnik, who can carry a conventional or nuclear warhead, had the scope to reach all of Europe.

Medium-range missiles can fly between 500 and 5,500 kilometers (310 to 3,400 miles). Such weapons were banned under Soviet-era treaties that Washington and Moscow abandoned in 2019.

Last fall, Putin and Lukashenko signed a treaty ensuring Moscow’s security guarantee to Belarus, including the possibility of the use of Russian nuclear weapons to repel attacks. The agreement follows the revision of the Kremlin of the nuclear doctrine, which for the first time placed Belarus under the Russian nuclear umbrella amid tensions with the West over the Ukrainian conflict.

Having ruled Belarus by iron for over 30 years and relied on Kremlin subsidies and support, Lukashenko has allowed Russia to send troops to Ukraine in 2022 and use its own territory to host some of its tactical nuclear weapons. Russia has not made it clear that a number of such weapons have been deployed, but Lukashenko said in December there were dozens of them in their country.

The deployment of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, with a 1,084-kilometer (673 miles) boundary with Ukraine, will allow Russian aircraft and missiles to reach potential targets easily and quickly if Moscow decides to use them. It also expands Russia’s ability to target several NATO allies in Eastern and Central Europe.

The improved nuclear doctrine Putin signed last fall officially lowered the threshold for the use of Russian nuclear weapons. The document states that Moscow can use nuclear weapons “in response to the use of nuclear and other types of weapons of mass destruction” against Russia and its allies, and that “aggression and Belarus can use “aggression” and “threatening sovereignty and/or territorial integrity” against Russia and Belarus “in the case of aggression.”

Governor Coogler resigns and resigns to fill Trump’s early vacancies

0

Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Coogler has stepped down and is giving President Donald Trump an opening to fill.

play

Federal Reserve Gov. Adriana Kugler has stepped down from the central bank’s board, and President Donald Trump is giving Badger Fed officials the opportunity to appoint early replacements in a month-long campaign to cut interest rates.

The announcement comes just two days after the Fed said it would stabilize key interest rates despite increasing pressure from Trump to trim. Two Trump-appointed board members, lower fees, Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller opposed the decision. Coogler missed the vote.

Coogler’s resignation gives Trump the opportunity to at least partially shape his Fed’s makeup to his preferences before her original departure date. Biden-appointed governor, Coogler, was scheduled to join the seven-member committee in 2023 and serve until January 2026.

Coogler did not provide a reason for their departure on August 8th. A statement from the Fed said she will return to Georgetown University this fall as a professor.

In a letter to President Donald Trump, Coogler said it was a “lifelong honor” to serve the Fed’s board.

“I am particularly honored to serve at a critical time in order to achieve the dual mission of lowering prices and maintaining a strong and resilient labor market,” Kugler said. “The Federal Reserve has done a vital job of promoting a healthy economy and it has been a privilege to work towards that goal on behalf of all Americans for nearly two years.”

In a July 30 memo, Comerica Bank chief economist Bill Adams noted that Trump may use the opening of the cooler to appoint a replacement chair for Jerome Powell.

Powell, who was appointed Trump in 2017, will serve as chairman of the Federal Reserve in May 2026. In June, Trump said he was looking for a new Fed chair and narrowed his search to “three or four.”

Adams said Trump’s next choice for chairs could be a member of the current Federal Open Market Committee or external employment.

“The next chair will probably take a different approach to monetary policy than Powell, but it’s hard to say. It discourages Powell himself from being Trump’s appointee,” Adams wrote on July 30. “In any case, the Fed seems likely to cut interest rates between now and when Powell’s term ends, which makes it difficult to move.”

The Smithsonian responds after Trump is removed from the bullet each

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, has removed a reference to President Donald Trump in an exhibit on the blast each, despite being the first and only president in American history where Trump has been each two shots each. However, the museum says the move is temporary.

The Washington Post first reported the changes on Thursday, July 31st. On Friday, August 1st, the Smithsonian announced the removal of the museum. This is what we know.

Smithsonian: A display restored to its 2008 appearance

The “Barge Each” display is housed in a larger permanent gallery that opened in 2000, called the “President of the United States,” according to a statement emailed by the Smithsonian. Information and artifacts about Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon are featured, according to the Display Companion website. Nixon resigned before he officially got fired off.

In September 2021, a “temporary label on content related to Donald J. Trump’s blast each” was added, according to a statement by the Smithsonian. “It was intended to be a short-term measure to address the current event at the time, but the label remained intact until July 2025.”

According to a statement from the Smithsonian and a report by the Washington Post, the exhibit has been reverted to how it appeared nearly 20 years ago.

“Reviewing recent legacy content has made it clear that the “Limitations of Presidential Forces” section of the “American Presidential Employment: A Glorious Burden” exhibition needs to be addressed,” the museum’s statement said. “The decision was made to restore the ‘burn each’ cases in 2008, as other topics in this section have not been updated since 2008. ”

The display’s companion website does not include a dedicated section of Trump’s bounce each, but “In 1868, the House of Representatives fired each Andrew Johnson in 1998, and in 2019, Donald Trump each, in 2021.”

This includes sections on Johnson’s bullet each, including tickets and newspaper clips from the time. Nixon’s Senate hearing and resignation. Photos from testimony documents and minutes. Clinton’s trial, including tickets and Senate question cards.

“All bullets each” will come in the future

“The future and updated exhibits will include all the ammo each,” the Smithsonian statement said that permanent gallery updates and updates “need a considerable amount of time and funding.”

The Smithsonian refused to answer further questions about the updated exhibition changes and timeline.

The controversy over the Smithsonian change to display comes after the White House in May promoted art director Kim Sadgett’s removal from her role as director of Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, citing “strong support” for “Day.”

In March, Trump also signed an executive order calling for the removal of “anti-American ideology” from the Smithsonian and other cultural institutions.

The shooting in Anaconda, Montana left four dead, suspected

Authorities were searching for suspects after four people were fatally shot and killed in Montana’s business, authorities said on August 1.

The Montana Criminal Investigation Department confirmed with USA Today that four people were killed in the shooting at Owl Bar, Anaconda, about 108 miles west of Bozeman, around 10.30am.

The Granite County Sheriff’s Office said the suspects related to the shooting are still large. Subsequent post offices from the sheriff’s office said the suspect’s home had been cleared by the SWAT team.

“Without the Anaconda area,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”

In a Facebook post, the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center identified the suspect as Michael Paul Brown and said he believed he was armed and dangerous.

“Public recommends you stay away from the Stamptown area and its surrounding area. If you see it, don’t come near,” the official said.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte said he was monitoring officials’ reactions to the shooting on Friday afternoon, August 1st.

“Pray for Susan and me for the victims, their loved ones, and for the brave law enforcement officers who respond to this tragedy,” he said.

This is a developing story.

The risks of common allergic drugs outweigh their usefulness, experts say

0

Dr. Anna Wolfson says she sees dangerous misuse of the allergic drug diphenhydramine every day at her clinic.

“If someone is having an allergic reaction to food, people will say, ‘Don’t worry, I have diphenhydramine in my wallet’, and then say, ‘Really, epinephrine is the first line treatment for food allergies’.”

Diphenhydramine can be harmful if people take it after they have an allergic reaction to food, she said.

“It’s time to move on. For all the signs that people are using diphenhydramine, there are better medications that are more effective in treating the symptoms people are trying to treat with fewer side effects,” she said. “I have had a patient who was worried that diphenhydramine might be impairing his ability to drive and fully participate in everyday life.”

Wolfson doesn’t just like alternatives. In a review published in February, San Diego, an allergy expert at Johns Hopkins University and the University of California, called for the removal of diphenhydramine from the US commercial and prescription markets.

First generation antihistamines, approved in 1946, are widely used for allergies, sleep aids and cold symptoms. According to the American Association of Pharmacists, it is a common over-the-counter drug in the United States, and it has increased in summer months to use sneezing and watery nose caused by grass and pollen allergies.

Despite its long-standing presence in American homes, the authors of the new review say it poses more disproportionate risks than new antihistamines, especially for children and older adults.

“Patients should test alternatives like loratadine, zyrtec, cetirizine, or allegra, fexofenadine,” said Dr. James Clark, who was a prime faculty at CNN, to alleviate allergic symptoms.

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association, a leading figure in the OTC medical industry, says the label reveals common side effects associated with products containing diphenhydramine. However, he states, “these products are not intended for long-term use.”

“When used according to the instructions, these medications offer established therapeutic benefits for common health diseases such as allergies, colds, exercise sickness, mild skin irritation, and occasional insomnia,” the group said in a statement on behalf of Benadril manufacturer Kemb. “As with all medicines, responsible use is essential, and consumers should always follow the instructions and warnings on the drug fact label and consult their healthcare provider if they have questions.”

Antihistamines work by blocking receptors called H1, which are part of the body’s system, to respond to allergens that cause symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose. However, older drugs like diphenhydramine not only block allergy-related receptors, they can also affect other parts of the brain. Diphenhydramine often causes sedation, cognitive impairment and, in some cases, dangerous cardiac effects, the authors write.

In older people, the drug can remain in the body for up to 18 hours, resulting in increased risk of drowsiness, disorientation and decline. This review also highlighted possible links between long-term diphenhydramine use and dementia.

In children, the risks can be even more pronounced. The review authors quote the case studies Paradoxical responses such as accidental overdose; agitating, extreme sedation, coma. And especially in pediatric preparations, death occurs due to accidental ingestion. The drug was associated with hospitalization and deaths of several children during the Tiktok virus “Benadril Challenge.”

Dr. Manuela Murray, director of general pediatrics and emergency medicine at the University of Texas Department of Medicine, said diphenhydramine should not be used lightly.

“It should always be used under the guidance of a medical professional and is shown only to treat allergic reactions and movement intoxication,” Murray wrote in an email.

Drug therapy is often misused and “is not a safe sleeping pill medicine that does not benefit treatment for cold symptoms,” she said. In fact, it can have the opposite effect on children, leading to hyperactivity.

Dr. Alyssa Kuban, pediatrician and associate medical director for Texas Pediatric Pediatrics, said he found that Diphenhydramine was overused because of symptoms that had no direct treatment and had a safer alternative.

“Some families who use diphenhydramine when their children have colds or upper respiratory tract infections believe it helps them with crowds and sleep at night,” she said. “This is not effective against cold symptoms and is very insecure.”

She recommends over-the-counter cetirizine to treat children with hives, seasonal allergies, or itchy rashes. Cetiridine also lasts longer, and is not as sedative as diphenhydramine, she says.

Murray agrees that loratadine and cetirizine are safer for children over six months, and saline drops and aspiration are better alternatives for babies.

Diphenhydramine appears in over 300 OTC formulations and is often mixed in combination with cough, cold and influenza. The authors of this review state that, like products containing pseudoephedrine, they need to move behind the counter with minimal diphenhydramine, allowing pharmacists to guide patients to second generation alternatives.

The American Association of Pharmacists says patients should pay attention to concomitant cough and cold products that contain diphenhydramine.

Pharmacists may recommend alternative medications to older people who have a history of being cognitively affected by certain medications. The group “encourages patients and parents/caregivers to ask patients and parents/caregivers to request the pharmacist for the most appropriate treatment recommendations for the amount of the lowest side effects.”

The review authors also emphasize that there is no strong clinical data to suggest that diphenhydramine works better than other options. It can reduce symptoms such as sneezing and itching, but it has minimal impact on nasal traffic jams and does not outweigh second-generation medications in randomized trials. New options such as oral cetirizine provide 24-hour coverage with fewer adverse events.

However, in the US, medicine remains a staple diet. Reviews show that over 1.5 million prescriptions are still written each year, not counting untracked OTC purchases.

“In the past, it has been a useful drug that has helped millions of patients, but the current treatment ratio is consistent or exceeded with second-generation antihistamines, particularly due to significant reductions in side effects.

Netanyahu will postpone its decision on military action in Gaza next week, sources say

0

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed the decision on what his country’s troops will do in Gaza if Hamas does not agree to the ceasefire agreement.

Sources say there is no longer a decision this week.

This is about a favorable course of action in the enclave amid internal disagreements of the Israeli government.

If extremist groups disagree with the deal, one idea on the table is to surround Gaza city and other population centres, but another idea is to “conquer” the city, sources said. Different ministers support the different plans, the source added.

On Thursday, Israeli officials said Israel and the US are shaping new understandings about Gaza as Hamas reportedly withdraws from negotiations on ceasefire and hostage trade.

“At the same time, Israel and the United States will work to increase humanitarian aid while continuing its military operations in Gaza,” the official added.

This change occurs as Hamas was released from ceasefire and hostage negotiations, according to two sources familiar with the issue.

Hamas’ departure The US and Israel are pulling delegations from their talks in Doha, Qatar. Despite the move, a senior Israeli official told CNN that if Hamas changes its position, he is ready to return to Doha.

On Thursday, Hamas said it is working on negotiations for a permanent ceasefire and ongoing negotiations towards a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, but the terms of the enclave will need to be improved “significantly” first.

Peace negotiations occur in the devastating humanitarian situation of Gaza, where many people are hungry.

All 2.1 million people in Gaza are food insecurity without reliable access to well-appointed, nutritious, healthy foods, the United Nations said this week. According to the Enclave’s Health Ministry, 900,000 children are hungry and show signs of malnutrition in 70,000 people.

“It is essential to significantly improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation and get written responses from our enemies regarding our response,” Basmem Naim, a senior member of Hamas Politics Bureau, told CNN. “This is a condition for us to return to negotiations.”

In another statement, Hamas said, “We are ready to immediately participate in negotiations upon the arrival of aid to those in need, once again and end the humanitarian crisis and hunger in Gaza.”

The statement added that “continuous negotiations under the terms of starvation will lose their substance and effectiveness.”

CNN previously reported that Hamas is considering strengthening its position in negotiations. Hamas official Mahmoud Maldawi said on Wednesday there was no point in continuing to engage in negotiations as long as Gaza’s starvation crisis continues.

Trump envoy visits a problematic Gaza aid operation

0

Steve Witkoff, what he said, was an effort to visit a site run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation for US support, and to develop a new aid plan.

play

  • Trump envoy Steve Witkoff said that Rafa’s visit to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation site was to help put together Gaza’s new aid plan.
  • Witkov’s visit was first made by well-known US officials in Gaza since the start of the war.
  • Medic says dozens of Gaza people have recently died of malnutrition as hunger spreads.
  • Israel has locked down Gaza for several months and now receives more assistance. The United Nations says that it’s not enough.

CAIRO – President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy became the first famous US official to visit Gaza since the war began, and toured a US aid operation on Friday that the UN said will blame the fatal situation.

Steve Witkov visited a site run by the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in Rapha, saying it was an effort to create a new aid plan for Palestinian territory shattered in the war that Israel is fighting the militant group Hamas.

Humanitarian organisations and many foreign governments were strongly critical of the GHF, which launched operations in late May. Global Hunger Monitor warned this week that Hunger is rolling out in Gaza.

Hours after Witkov’s visit, Palestinian medical professionals reported that Israeli forces had shot and killed three Palestinians near one of the city’s groups at the southern tip of Gaza. Reuters could not immediately confirm whether it was in the same location.

Israeli forces said they are still considering an incident in which soldiers fired warning shots of what they called “aggregations of suspects” approaching the army hundreds of metres from the aid site.

The UN says more than 1,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the GHF began operating there.

The Israeli army admits that its forces killed Palestinians seeking assistance, which gave the troops new orders to improve their response.

The UN has refused to cooperate with the GHF, saying that it is inherently dangerous, distributing aid in a way that violates the principle of humanitarian neutrality and contributes to the territorial hunger crisis.

GHF says no one has been killed at its distribution point and they do a better job protecting the delivery of aid than the UN.

Israel has introduced a GHF distribution system, denounced Hamas and the United Nations for failing to reach the desperate Palestinians in Gaza and cited it to hinder the supply of aid seized by Hamas. Hamas denys any assistance to steal.

The US ambassador of Israeli Mike Huckabee, who traveled to Gaza with Witkov on Friday, posted a photo on X showing the hungry Gazan behind the Razorwire on a GHF poster carrying a large American flag that read “100,000,000 meals delivered.”

“President Trump understands Gaza’s interests, and the civilians who feed, not Hamas, must be a priority,” GHF spokesman Chapin Faye said in a statement, accompanied by a gray camouflage top, flack jacket and a baseball cap with Trump’s name sewn onto his back, accompanied by an image of “Make America Great Again.”

“We were honored to briefly describe his delegation, share his business and demonstrate the impact of delivering 100 million meals to those who need it most,” Fay said.

Witkov said at X that he had met with other institutions as well.

“The purpose of the visit was to help @potus (Trump) to clearly understand the humanitarian situation and develop a plan to bring food and medical aid to the people of Gaza,” Witkov said.

He visited Gaza a day after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Since the start of the war in October 2023, Israel has been subject to international pressure on Gaza’s devastation, expanding hunger among its 2.2 million residents.

I’ll starve to die

Gaza Medic says that after Israel shut down all supplies to the enclave for almost three months from March to May, dozens of people died of malnutrition when hunger began.

Israel says it is taking steps to accept more aid, including suspending combat for part of the day in some regions and announcing protection routes for aid squads.

The worsening humanitarian crisis has urged France, the UK and Canada to announce plans to potentially recognize the Palestinian state.

Israeli military statistics show that an average of around 140 aid trucks entered Gaza every day during the war.

On Friday, Israeli forces said 200 trucks of aid were distributed Thursday by the United Nations and other organisations, with hundreds more people being distributed from border crossings in Gaza.

The UN says that if Israel lets them in without strict security measures that it says are blocking entry to much needed humanitarian aid during the war, thousands of trucks are still waiting.

Israel began allowing food air to be softened this week, but UN agencies say these are poor alternatives to ingesting more trucks. On Friday, Israeli forces said 126 food packages had been aired by six countries, including France, Spain and Germany for the first time.

“If there is a political will to allow airdrops that are very expensive, inadequate and inefficient, there should be a similar political will to open road intersections,” Palestinian aid agency chief Philip Lazarini wrote in X.

In addition to three shots near the GHF site, Medics said at least 12 Palestinians were killed in airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Friday. The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

The Gaza War, which began after Hamas killed more than 1,200 people and captured 251 hostages in an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killed more than 60,000 Palestinians.

The ceasefire talks in Qatar ended with a deadlock last week.

Covid-19 Vaccine Policy Changes As the summer waves rise, raise questions and concerns to our adults

0

With Covid-19 transmission rising in the US, recent changes to federal vaccine guidance have led many Americans to be confused about the latest policies and are concerned about access to the shot this fall.

The US has been causing a summer surge every year due to Covid-19 incidents since the pandemic began. However, this year, experts say the seasonal waves start later than expected and are relatively restrained. Surveillance data from Wastewaterscan shows median Covid-19 concentrations were chopped in June and July and were etched at high levels in parts of the country, but overall, last year was far below this period.

“My hypothesis was that a weak winter wave would set the stage for a bigger summer because many people don’t have the immunity these days. So far, activity has been sedating more than I had expected,” epidemiologist Caitlyn Rivers wrote in her newsletter. “I remain open to what August will bring. My best guess is a continuous increase until early September, but I am uncertain.”

It’s too early to know how much the current rise will be, or how long it will be, but Dr. Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist and director of the Pandemic Center at Brown University School of Public Health, says her key concern is whether the COVID-19 vaccine “will have time to protect people, especially high-risk people.”

“My biggest worry at this point is the uncertainty about when the updated Covid vaccines will be available and who will get them,” Nuzzo said.

New research data from KFF, released Friday, shows that most adults in the US are not planning on getting the Covid-19 vaccine this fall, but most of those planning to get the shot share concerns that the vaccine is not available and insurance won’t cover the costs.

Over the past few months, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that Covid-19 shots are no longer recommended for healthy children or pregnant women, and that on behalf of the Federal Vaccine Advisory Board, plans to look into established federal childhood vaccine schedules.

In the latest survey, KFF voted for a nationally representative sample of nearly 1,300 adults between July 8th and 14th, at least two weeks after each of these events.

About a quarter of US adults say Kennedy has made a “big” change in US vaccine policy, but another 40% “do not have enough knowledge to say it,” a KFF poll found.

This fall, most likely seniors and Democrats, about two-thirds of those planning to get the Covid-19 vaccine this fall say they are worried that they may not be available. And more than 60% of insureds who plan to get a shot are worried that their insurance won’t cover it.

According to new KFF data, it is unclear whether about half of parents are currently recommending that the federal health agency receive the Covid-19 vaccine this fall.

Kennedy announced that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would not officially recommend a COVID-19 vaccine for healthy children, leaving the decision to take place between parents and their health care providers.

KFF has found that individual physicians or healthcare providers continue to be the most reliable source of information about vaccines.

Trust in the local health department and CDC has been eroded over the past two years, but most adults still say they trust these sources for vaccine information.

But far fewer people say Kennedy trusts at least “a significant amount” of money to provide information about the vaccine, according to KFF. When asked about the impact of changes to federal vaccine policies, more than a third of adults said they weren’t making people safe. Only one in five people said the change was making people safer.

Rivers says it encourages anyone hoping for the annual Covid-19 to get it sooner than later.

“The big drawback is that it hasn’t been updated yet. The new formulation will be released near the fall,” she said, but once you get the shot now you’ll be protected from unpredictable summer waves and stay ahead of any potential access concerns that may occur in the future.

Are you actually hindering your 401(k)?

0

play

Contributing to a 401(k) is one of the best ways to save money for retirement, and this type of account has some clear advantages.

One has a much higher contribution limit range than many other retirement accounts. In 2025, you can invest up to $23,500 a year in your 401(k), but the contribution limit for traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs (individual retirement accounts) is only $7,000 a year.

However, if you are making enough contributions to make the most of your 401(k), you can put yourself at a disadvantage in a way. This is the way.

Limited investment options can also limit your profits

When investing in a 401(k), there are generally a few investment options set by the company plan, such as target date and other types of mutual funds.

There’s not necessarily a mistake in these investments, but it offers little flexibility, especially where you invest. If you prefer a more practical approach that is more likely to get above average returns, changing your investment within 401(k) can be difficult and sometimes even impossible.

There are far more options for other investment accounts, including IRAs. From large market index funds to industry-specific exchange trade funds (ETFs) to individual stocks, there are plenty of investments that most 401(k) simply don’t offer. With a good strategy, these investments could significantly outperform many mutual funds in the 401(k) plan.

Also, many mutual funds found in the 401(k) have far higher fees compared to index funds and ETFs. Investing in accounts other than 401(k) can not only earn you more, but you could also save thousands of dollars.

Early (and late) retirements can be more expensive

If you plan to retire outside of your 60s and most or all of your savings are tied up at a 401(k), you may throw a wrench into your plan.

59 If you withdraw money from a 401(k) before 1/2 years old, you will usually get a 10% penalty on the withdrawal amount. Individuals at least 55 years old may avoid these fees, but that applies only to 401(k) plans through modern employers. This is not all the old plans from previous work.

At the other end of the spectrum, hiccups can occur if you delay retirement sufficiently in the ’70s. At age 73, the elderly must begin taking the required minimum distribution (RMD) from the 401(k) account. This is because the 401(k) contributions are tax-free and tax-deferred, and the forced withdrawal ensures that the government will ultimately acquire tax revenue.

There are also RMD exceptions for those who are still working. If you own less than 5% of the company you work for, you may be delaying your RMD until you retire. However, as with early withdrawals, this applies only to 401(k) sponsored by the current company, not to previous accounts.

If you plan to retire much earlier than most traditional workers, it may make more sense to contribute to a Ross IRA, Ross 401(k), or a taxable brokerage. These options provide more flexibility with drawers and more options when you leave.

When rewarding sticking to 401(k)

There is still a great reason to continue to contribute, even if the 401(k) is not ideal. Employers match contributions. If the employer matches a 401(k) donation, it is essentially free money and could increase your savings by several thousand dollars a year.

Also, please note that there is no reason why you cannot contribute to multiple accounts. For example, with enough investment to make enough investments in the 401(k), get a full match for your employer and hide the rest from the Roth IRA to avoid RMD. If you make the most of your IRA, you can choose to put the rest in a brokerage in search of more investment options.

The 401(k) is a very powerful tool. However, if you’ve put all your eggs in one basket by maximizing this account, you may miss some great perks from other types of accounts. A more balanced approach allows you to earn more, save more, and set yourself up for better retirement.

Trump’s orders labor statistics fired after reporting weak work

0

Trump ordered the firing of U.S. Secretary of Labor Statistics, Erica Mantelfer, and denounced her without evidence to manipulate work figures.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has said he ordered the firing of U.S. Secretary of Labor Statistics, Erica Mantelfer.

On August 1, Trump announced the move in a post on social media app Truth Social, writing that “we are informed that our country’s “employment numbers” are being produced by Biden’s appointee, Dr. Erika McEntarfer.”

“We need accurate work numbers. I have told the team to fire this Biden political appointee right away. She will be replaced by someone more capable and qualified,” Trump said. “These important figures must be fair and accurate. They cannot be manipulated for political purposes.”

The Senate confirmed Mantelfer, the appointment of former President Joe Biden, in January 2024. Labor economist McEntarfer has worked for the federal government for 20 years, including previous stints at the US Census Bureau and the Treasury Department.

In addition to the release of the July employment report on Friday, this was far below the estimated 105,000 new jobs, but the increase in employment at the Labor Bureau in May and June increased by 258,000, portraying a labor market that is far weaker than they believed in spring and early summer.

“McEntarfer has only added 73,000 jobs (shocking!), but more importantly, over the past two months, 258,000 jobs have occurred,” Trump said. “The same thing happened in the first part of the year. It’s always been negative.”

Trump also accused Mentarfer of “falsifying work numbers before the election (2024)” in support of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Trump pointed to robust employment reports in March, August and September 2024, which was later revised low.

Storm was expected to become a hurricane

play

The tropical storm gil continues to be strengthened in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to reach hurricane conditions soon, but Iona is expected to remain in tropical storm conditions before gradually weakening.

In a recommendation issued at 5am Hawaii standard time on Friday, August 1st, the National Hurricane Center said Gill is located about 920 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula and heads towards West Northwest.

GIL is expected to become a hurricane on Friday, August 1st, with high gusts and maximum sustained winds of nearly 65 mph, with further strengthening forecasts. A gradual weakening is expected over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Iona is located about 1,295 miles west-southwest of Honolulu, Hawaii, with its largest sustained winds close to 40 mph and gusts. The storm is moving towards the west-northwest, and this movement is expected to continue for the next few days, with a gradual decrease in forward velocity.

“There is little forecast of any change in strength until Saturday,” the Hurricane Centre said of Iona, adding that “the gradual weakening is expected to begin on Sunday.”

This predicted track shows the most likely pathway in the center of the storm. The full width of the storm or its impact is not shown, and the storm center can move out of the cone for up to 33% of the time.

NHC tracks three other systems brewing with Pacific

In its July 31 advisory, the Hurricane Center said it also maintains tabs on three other systems in the Pacific.

The first system is now a low-pressure trough located about 650 miles north and south of Hiro, Hawaii, linked to turbulent showers and thunderstorms.

“Currently, the system does not have a well-defined low-level center, but some developments are possible the next day or so,” the NHC said, but environmental conditions are expected to encourage further development by the end of this weekend. The Hurricane Center gives the system 10% molding potential over the next 7 days.

Additionally, the Hurricane Center expects a low pressure area to form southwest of Mexico within the next day or two days. Environmental conditions appear to encourage the progressive development of this system. Also, tropical depression could form this weekend or early next week as the system moves westwards northwest.

The NHC gives the system an 80% chance of formation over the next 7 days.

Finally, low-pressure areas are projected to form offshore Central America and southern Mexico coasts by mid-term next week. As the system then moves westward and northwest, environmental conditions appear to help in some development. According to the NHC, the system could form 20% over the next seven days.

How do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes originate in the tropical regions above warm waters. Thunderstorm clusters can develop across the ocean when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions are correct, clusters are swirling into tropical waves and storms known as tropical depression.

Tropical depression becomes a named tropical storm when its sustained wind speed reaches 39 mph. When the wind reaches 74 mph, the storm officially becomes a hurricane.

Get ready for a hurricane now

Potentially delaying preparations for salvation can mean waiting until it’s too late. “Get disaster supply while the shelves are still in stock and flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so get that insurance inspection early,” NOAA recommends.

  • Establish an evacuation plan: If you are at risk of a hurricane, you will need an evacuation plan. Now is the time to plan where you will go and how you will get there.
  • Assemble disaster supply: Whether you’re evacuating or evacuating, you’ll need supplies not only to get through the storm, but also for the potentially long aftermath.
  • Get an insurance inspection and document your property: Contact your insurance company or agent now to ask for an insurance inspection and make sure you have sufficient insurance to repair or replace your home or belongings. Remember that home insurance and tenant insurance don’t cover floods, so you’ll need a separate insurance for that. Flood insurance is available through your company, agent, or through your national flood insurance program. Flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so take action now.
  • Create a family communication plan: NOAA said he took the time to write down your hurricane plan and share it with your family. Determine where family gatherings are to be located and include out-of-town locations in the event of evacuation.
  • It strengthens your home: Now is the time to improve your home’s ability to withstand the effects of a hurricane. Trim the wood; attach storm shutters, accordion shutters, and/or impact glass. Seal the wall opening.

A record share of kindergarten children missed the vaccinations they needed last year ahead of the surge in measles incidents

0

The record share of U.S. kindergarten children was exempt from required vaccinations last year, with coverage of all reported vaccines, including the measles vaccine, being lower than in previous years.

Around 3.6% of kindergarten children from 2024-25 received a required vaccine exemption, leaving around 138,000 new school children without fully covering at least one nationally mandated vaccine, new data shows. The exemption jumped above the full percentage point over the past four years, CDC data shows, with the majority (all but 0.2%) being due to non-medical reasons.

Approximately 286,000 kindergarteners had not completed the 2024-25 measles-mampsulvera (MMR) vaccination series.

According to CDC data, MMR coverage has dropped to 92.5%, falling 95% below the federal government’s target for the fifth consecutive year. The majority of this year’s measles incident is with children who have not been vaccinated.

“Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect children from serious illnesses such as measles and pertussis, and can lead to hospitalization and long-term health complications,” the CDC said in a statement. “The CDC is committed to working closely with state and local partners by providing the tools, resources and data that will help communities promote vaccine access and awareness.”

However, the statement reflects the language commonly used by US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who states, “the vaccine decision is personal. Parents should consult their healthcare provider about family options.”

45 states allow religious beliefs to be used as the basis for vaccine exemptions for children starting schools, and 15 states allow exemptions for other personal or philosophical reasons, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“As pediatricians, we help children vaccinating children stay healthy and everyone knows it’s difficult for them to spread disease in our community,” AAP president Dr. Susan Cresley said in a statement. “In this moment when preventable diseases are on the rise, we need clear and effective communication from government leaders who recommend vaccination as the best way for children’s immune systems to combat dangerous diseases.”

This week, the organization reaffirmed its longstanding position that non-healthcare exemptions should be eliminated for school vaccination requirements.

“The science behind vaccines shows that their benefits outweigh the potential risks,” said Dr. Sean O’Leary, a pediatric infectious disease expert and chair of the AAP Infectious Diseases Committee. “There’s really no good reason to opt out.”

However, between 2024 and 25, vaccine exemptions increased in 36 states, according to new CDC data. In 17 states, more than 5% of kindergarten children received exemptions. This is not sufficient to apply to a 95% target for MMR vaccines that have been set up two MMR vaccines by HHS, in a reminder from the administrator to a document or doctor’s visit.

“We’ve seen a lot of trouble with our children,” said Dr. Josh Williams, a pediatrician with Denver Health and Associate Professor at the Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. “So we are in a situation where we are currently in many states, and certainly many communities within certain states, where there is not enough herd immunity to protect against diseases that can be prevented by these vaccines, particularly measles outbreaks.”

In a 2019 study, Williams and fellow researchers discovered an interesting pattern of vaccine exemptions. If exemptions for both religious and personal beliefs are available in the state, religious exemptions tend to be low, but when the exemptions for personal beliefs disappear, the proportion of religious exemptions increases significantly.

“That leads to the kind of recommendations you see from organizations like AAP. Essentially, they say that these exemption policies don’t seem to actually do what they’re trying to do.

According to California, Connecticut, Maine, New York and West Virginia, they limit vaccine exemptions to medical reasons. While figures on West Virginia’s MMR coverage were not available in the latest CDC data, the other four states are one of a small group in 10 states that have reached a federal target of 95% coverage among kindergarteners.

In 2023, federal courts paved the way for religious exemptions to be added to Mississippi school vaccination policies. The exemption rate quickly jumped into the state, with MMR coverage dropping by about 1 percentage point, according to CDC data.

Raynard Covarrubio will manage the MMR vaccine on March 1st at a vaccine clinic in Lubbock, Texas.

Overall, according to the CDC, national MMR coverage for kindergarteners has decreased from 92.7% for the 2023-24 grade to 92.5% for the 2024-25 grade.

Experts say that such changes may appear small, but they can significantly increase risk.

“It’s a small percentage point change that we’ll add up if it happened year over year, and that’s what we’ve seen,” Williams said, and the changes aren’t evenly distributed. “People who tend to reject the vaccine tend to come together. …Perhaps areas where there are low intakes are getting worse, and areas where there are more reasonable intakes continue to be reasonable.”

The majority of measles cases reported in this record-breaking year are concentrated in Texas.

MMR coverage in the state has been popular for at least the past decade with just 93.2% coverage among kindergarteners for at least the past decade. The exemptions have skyrocketed above 4%, significantly exceeding national fares. The law passed by the state legislature this year will make exemptions even easier. Starting in September, the affidavit form applying for the exemption can be printed from the state health department’s website without the need to submit a written request.

Dr. Philip Fan, director of the Dallas County Health Department, said there were many testimonies against the change.

“We were all insisting that there was a need for a consistent message of clear support for vaccinations from above,” he said. “We’re very concerned about what’s going on with HHS and what sort of message that undermines it.”

Experts say vaccines can sometimes be “a victim of their own success.” People don’t realize how much protection they provide until they see the possible pain they may have when they are not used.

This year’s measles outbreak has led to three deaths and dozens of hospitalizations, primarily among children, but experts say it could encourage the need to get vaccinated and start changing trends.

“There’s always been concern about the decline in seeing measles and other vaccines, but I think that in one context of our larger measles outbreak in recent memory, many people are in mind returning to school this fall,” Williams said. “In my clinical practice here in Denver, I have received requests from families who are worried about measles transmission at schools and daycare. Families who want to receive that protection come before the grade have come and have been able to take care of their children as much as possible before returning to school this fall.”

Williams says he likes to remind his parents that most people support vaccinations and that they work hard to gain the trust of their hesitant parents.

“It’s always good to remember that the majority of parents will vaccinate their children on time and on recommended schedules,” he said. “When that’s not true in schools or in the community, I think it’s an opportunity for supporters to talk to other parents and become partners in the process of improving vaccine trust.”
