UCLA has frozen $584 million by Trump administrators over 2024

The university is the first public institution to combat targeted government funding freezes.

play

The University of California, Los Angeles, is negotiating with the federal government to suspend more than $5 billion in research funds, according to the school.

UCLA Prime Minister Julio Frenk said in an August 6 message to campus communities that roughly $584 million has been suspended. James Milicken, president of the University of California System, said the school has pledged to “engage in dialogue with the federal administration” in hopes of ending the freeze “as soon as possible.”

On July 29, the Department of Justice notified UCLA that it had violated federal civil rights laws and allowed discrimination against Jews and Israeli students to occur if they were unable to properly respond to the protest in the spring of 2024 due to the Israeli Hama War.

Since then, grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies have been blocked, putting university research equipment at risk.

“This broad penalty in life-saving research does nothing to address suspicious discrimination,” Frenk said in a July 31 statement.

The funding freeze reflects similar behavior the federal government has taken with other prestigious universities in recent weeks and months, prompting a series of unprecedented agreements with schools such as Columbia and Brown. However, UCLA was the first major public institution, and its research support appeared on the Trump administration’s crosshairs.

“Speedway Slammer” is set in Trump’s latest immigration prison

The Trump administration is working to expand immigration detention capacity across the country using a model of Florida’s troubled facilities.

play

  • The Trump administration is increasing immigrant detention capacity amid rising immigrant arrests.
  • Critics argue that the nickname is trivial to the harsh conditions of ice detention.
  • Indiana Governor Mike Brown is helping to work with federal immigration enforcement.

The motorsports company behind the Indy 500 says it has been stolen from the guard by the Trump administration, which brands a new immigration detention center as “speedway slammers.”

Following the August 5 announcement, up to 1,000 detained migrants have detained immigrants in the largest security prison. Homeland Security has promoted the contract online with mash-up photos featuring IndyCar, which features an impressive detention center in the background.

The Republican-led state volunteered to host the next immigration detention center in the Trump administration after Florida established a detention facility called “Alligator Alcatraz.”

DHS secretary Kristi Noem has been promoting the administration’s efforts to rapidly expand immigration detention capabilities amid a surge in immigrant arrests.

“If you’re illegally in America, you can find yourself in Speedway Slammer in Indiana,” Noem said in an August 5th post on X.

The “Speedway Slammer” nickname is in line with the White House efforts to sell its growing immigration enforcement efforts to Americans. The name refers to one of the Indianapolis Motor Speedways, one of Indiana’s most famous facilities.

Speedway owner Pensuke Entertainment said in a statement to Indystar, part of the USA Today network, it “doesn’t know of any plans to incorporate our images as part of the announcement.”

“Consistent with our approach to public policy and political issues, we communicate our preference not to take advantage of IP advances in relation to this issue,” the statement mentions the company’s intellectual property.

Immigration advocates say the nickname obscures the dire situation documented in ice detention in recent months, dehumanizing the people who lived there.

According to US immigration and customs enforcement data, the average population of ice custody increased from under 40,000 in January to 57,000.

Indiana Gov. Mike Brown in January ordered national law enforcement to “completely cooperate” with the federal crackdown on illegal immigration, including undocumented immigration investigations, arrests and detention.

Indiana has already committed to using empty space at the Miami Correctional Facility at the former Grissom Air Force Base about 70 miles north of Indianapolis to use detained migrants for their homes.

According to Annie Goller, IDOC’s chief communications officer, the facility has around 3,100 beds, some of which have not been used due to a shortage of staff.

Expansion of immigrant detention

The Trump administration is looking to expand immigration detention capabilities through local partnerships, civil contracts and military bases.

Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas became the first military base to build an ice detention camp. The administration is also paying attention to bases in Indiana.

On July 15, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses outlined plans to temporarily hold detained immigrants using Camp Atterbury, south of Indianapolis. According to D-Ind’s André Carson, the Trump administration wants to hold up to 1,000 ice detainees in military facilities.

Brown said as of August 5, the Trump administration had not established a timeline on when military bases would be used for detention camps.

“When it comes to our state, we’ll work together… because we live in detainees who broke the law after they went illegal,” Brown told Indystar. “We will work with the federal government.”

French firefighters fight to contain the flames that killed an elderly woman and tore apart areas larger than Paris

0

Around 2,000 French firefighters are fighting to contain the fast-moving flames that have burned areas larger than Paris, killing older women.

The 16,000 hectares of fire is the largest year so far, local officials said Wednesday.

“We lament the death of an elderly woman of St. Laurent de la Cabreris who doesn’t seem to want to leave her home,” local official Remi Recio told CNN affiliate BFMTV.

The Blaze, which occurred Tuesday afternoon near Ribaute in the Aude division, injured two civilians and seven firefighters, Recio added.

“This is an unprecedented proportion of catastrophe,” said French Prime Minister François Bailloux. Bayrou stressed at a press conference that the event was “related to climate change and drought.”

Approximately 1,250 firefighters are fighting the flames. More resources, including three helicopters and dozens of soldiers, will also be mobilized Thursday, Retero said at the same event.

Smoke from the wildfires can be seen on Tuesday from Banyuls-Sur-Mer in France.
The fire delay agent will be dropped on a wildfire near Von John Kauss, France on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition said in a press release that the fire “indicates the scale of the outcome of climate change,” saying, “it alone represents the equivalent of all hectares burned in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024, doubled in 2023.”

He added that 25 homes have been affected, dozens of vehicles have been burned, and the drought conditions are accelerating the spread of the fire.

Firefighters briefings on Wednesday Bayrou and Retailleau said within an hour the fire had burned more than 1,500 hectares. The flame then consumed about 1,000 hectares per hour, firefighters added.

Christophe Manny, head of the Ode Regional Fire Force, told BFMTV that extreme weather conditions, combining extreme humidity (25%), winds above 30 km/h and temperatures of around 35 degrees Celsius, created the ideal conditions for the fire to spread.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday morning that “the Ode wildfire is ongoing” and that “in this ordeal, everyone must follow the directions of the authorities with the utmost care.”

On Wednesday morning, air operations resumed with heavy helicopters that could carry four tons of water, and four Canadia water bombers that could support ground crews with four dash aircraft.

This is a “disaster of an unprecedented scale,” firefighter spokesman Eric Brocardi told RTL Radio on Wednesday.

“The very tentative material toll shows around 30 vehicles burned out and 25 homes affected by the flames. Currently, 2,500 homes are not powered,” Aude County said in a press release Wednesday. “The fire remains very active and weather conditions will still be at a disadvantage on August 6th.”

Firefighters work at the scene of a wildfire near St. Rent de la Cabreris, France on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, Dutch tourist Renate Koot, who is on vacation in San Laurent de la Cabreris, fled the area with her partner.

“At one moment we were on the phone with the kids… thinking, ‘Look, fire!’ We then jumped into the car and left, praying for protection. “We’re fine. Miraculously.”

“It’s incredible. It’s a catastrophe,” said Issa Medina, a Spanish national who was with the family of San Laurent de la Cabreris.

Officials and experts warn that winds could change, complicating efforts to combat wildfires.

The hot, dry summers in the Mediterranean make the area particularly vulnerable to wildfires, scientists say. When fired, local fires can escalate quickly due to their abundance of dry vegetation and strong winds, making them difficult to contain.

“Climate change is expected to increase the risk of wildfires over the summer, but it will extend into autumn and spring, spreading towards the southwest, the Centre and northern France.”

According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Services, Europe is the fastest continent in the world, with temperatures rising twice the global average since the 1980s.

Stanford University student paper calls for the threat of deportation from the Trump administration

The complaint accuses the Trump administration of turning freedom of speech into a “privilege that is on the whimsical terms of federal bureaucrats.”

play

  • The case was filed on August 6th in federal court in Northern California.
  • The lawsuit accuses the Trump administration of violating the First and Fifth Amendments in an attempt to use immigration law to target pro-Palestinian speeches.

Stanford University Student Newspaper sued the Trump administration for attempts to revoke non-citizen visas and to force Palestinian speeches using federal immigration laws, saying such policies violate the first and fifth amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation, which runs Stanford University’s student newspaper, Stanford Daily, and two unnamed plaintiffs, filed a lawsuit on August 6th in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a national free speech group, represents student publications.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Christie Noem of the Department of Homeland Security have been appointed defendants.

The complaint alleges that non-citizen writers from the student newspaper “self-censored” by avoiding topics related to Palestinian protests and Israeli war in Gaza and attempting to remove previous articles on the issue.

Other plaintiffs, called Jane Daw and John Do, are legally non-citizens in the United States, the complaint said. Neither of them were charged with or convicted of crimes, but the lawsuit said their fear of possible retaliation by President Donald Trump’s administration has prompted them to refrain from giving Palestinian speeches.

According to the complaint, one individual “resumed his journalism and Palestinian advocacy, putting him at risk of revoking his visa and deporting him.”

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Trump administration are trying to turn the human rights of free speech into a privilege that comes with the whimsical privilege of federal officials, and are attempting to raise deportation lawsuits against non-citizens who reside in the country for protected political speeches on US and Israeli foreign policy,” the complaint said.

Homeland Security Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin called it “a baseless political lawsuit” in an email to USA Today.

“The plaintiff’s premise is wrong because DHS does not arrest people based on protected speeches,” McLaughlin said. “DHS plays a role in seriously eliminating the threats to the public and our community. The idea of enforcing federal law in that respect constitutes some kind of prior restraint on speech.”

“We have no room in the United States for sympathizers of terrorists around the world, so we have no obligation to acknowledge them or stay here,” McLaughlin said.

“Sec. Noem has made it clear that anyone who thinks that they can come to America and hide behind the original amendment to defend anti-American and anti-Semitic violence and terrorism is thinking again,” she said.

Among other requests, the complaint asks the court to grant both preliminary and permanent injunctions prohibiting Rubio and NOEM from attempting to use provisions in the Immigration and Nationality Act to deport or retaliate plaintiffs based on their speech.

The American Association of University Professors and various university chapters filed similar lawsuits in Boston over the administration’s actions against non-citizens in Palestinian speech. The judge has not yet issued a judgment in the case.

Amazon Refund Text Scam: FTC Issue Warning

0

play

Authorities are warning the public to be aware of texts that impersonate Amazon and offer refunds.

“The scammers are pretending to be Amazon again,” the Federal Trade Commission said in a recent press recommendation. “This time they’re sending you texts claiming there’s a problem with what you bought.”

The agent asked the scammer to click on the link for a refund, but said, “It’s a scam.”

What is Amazon Refund Scam?

According to the FTC Advisory issued on July 24th, the winners received “unexpected text that appears to be from Amazon” and claimed “the company has done a ‘regular quality inspection’ and that items recently purchased do not meet Amazon’s standards or have not been recalled.”

“The text says that you don’t need to return the item, as long as you click on the link and request the money,” the advisory says. Added that there is no refund, and instead the link is a “phishing scam” to steal money and personal information.

How to avoid fraud

The FTC recommends keeping the following in mind to avoid fraud:

  • Do not click or respond to unexpected text links. If you believe your message is legal, please contact the company via a verified phone number, email or website, rather than information from the text.
  • For more information, check your Amazon account on the app or website to see if there are any issues or recalls for what you ordered. Do not use text links.
  • Transfer unnecessary text to 7726 (spam) or use the “Report Junk” option on your phone. Once you have reported it, delete the message.

The FTC also encourages the public to report fraud to agents at Reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Additionally, Amazon has information on its website about how to identify fake text messages.

What should I do if my information is compromised?

If you are incorrectly involved in a link and are afraid that your personal information has been compromised, the FTC recommends that you follow the steps below to ensure that you and your information:

  • Warn banks and credit card companies and freeze all accounts immediately
  • Change the password for potentially affected accounts
  • Keep an eye on suspicious fees and ready to challenge them
  • If you have given a social security number to a scammer, go to Identityththeft.gov to see what steps you can take, including how to monitor your credits.
  • Report the scam to the FTC

What will happen to Trump’s White House legacy? It’s not policy or politics.

0

Executive orders go back and forth. Law too. But a 90,000-square-foot ballroom? It stays here.

play

  • In the first six months of his second term, President Trump moved to leave the biggest traces on the president’s White House complex.
  • Think Supersized Flags, a paved rose garden, an oval office decorated with gold and gold leaf, and a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom.
  • Not everyone is a fan of Trump’s redesign. “What’s next, Spa?” Skeptic posted on social media platform X.

Regarding all their rage, the executive order signed by President Donald Trump could be overturned by the signature of his successor. If Democrats are controlled in Washington, the law passed at his request could be repealed.

But what about the 90,000-square-foot ballroom planted on the east side of the White House?

It will stay here.

Whatever Trump’s political legacy, in the first six months of his second term, he moved to leave the biggest traces of the President’s White House complex since John Adams first moved on November 1, 1800.

Twenty-five years later, 25 years after rising on new 88-foot poles on the north and south grass, they were a little taller than the White House itself.

The iconic Rose Garden, designed by Jacqueline Kennedy, is paved with what Trump deserves praise as “very white” stones, creating a resort patio over a lush retreat.

The oval office features fireplaces, walls and even ceilings with gold leaf and gold. “You know, we handle it in great love and 24 carat gold,” he boasted of visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Kearney.

And the Ballroom is looming as the biggest project of all of them, and as a project that is hard to imagine turning it around. Construction of the $200 million structure is scheduled to begin in September, with funding that the president says will come from himself and “patriot” donors. He promises it will be completed to celebrate his lease on January 20, 2029 on the real estate before it expires.

If the addition of a second floor to the White House residence in 1948 is universally referred to as the Truman Balcony, it appears likely that a future president will hold national dinners and other flashy issues that will forever be known as the Trump Ballroom.

Real estate renovations, set renovations

Perhaps it’s no surprise that the president, who has become a prominent real estate developer and reality TV star, is keen to put his stamp around him. He has renovated the basis for running the presidency business in front of television cameras that stream scenes, and has remodeled offices.

“They’ve been hoping for a ballroom in the White House for over 150 years, but there’s never a president who’s good at ballroom,” he said in response to a question raised recently by Joey Garrison of USA Today. Trump said his golf resort in Turnbury, Scotland, has a new “incredible” ballroom, adding that “I’m good at building things.”

His inspiration? There is a clear similarity to Mar-a-Lago in his Palm Beach Club and voting address. There, Donald J. Trump’s Grand Ballroom was completed in 2005, and his first event was his wedding to Melania Knaus. The room features a reported $7 million gold leaf and crystal chandelier.

The new White House ballroom also includes a crystal chandelier, rated ceiling, arched windows, Corinthian pillars and rooms for 650 dinner guests.

Trump’s stately love of love may have been built when he sat with his Scottish-born mother at age 6 and saw the coral crown of Queen Elizabeth II in London in 1953. In his book, The Art of the Deal, he called it one of his earliest memories.

His father was “very brick and mortar,” he later said, but his mother “loved rituals and beauty because no one was doing anything like English.”

Among the presidents, the most not, not the first

Not everyone is keen to redesign Trump.

Critics complain that he transformed his rose garden into a parking lot and his oval office into a sparkling sea. Social media memes ridiculous new ballroom. One portrays it as a giant McDonald’s. “What’s next, Spa?” Skeptic posted on Platform X.

Still, other presidents have made major changes to the White House, prompting protests from traditionalists who are often concerned about costs and aesthetics.

Second President and first resident John Adams is commemorated by a blessing engraved on the fireplaces of the state’s dining hall. “I pray that heaven will give this house the best blessing. “A person who is honest and wise will not rule under this roof.”

However, he did not order the inscription of a quote taken from a letter he wrote to his wife, Abigail Adams. It was done in 1945 by Franklin Roosevelt.

Thomas Jefferson added Colonnade, Andrew Jackson the North Portico and Theodore Roosevelt the West Wing to provide an oval office for the space for the president and staff. FDR oversees the construction of the East Wing, creates an office for the First Ladies, and also hides the construction of underground bunkers.

(The Presidential Emergency Business Center, known as the PEOC, was where Vice President Dick Cheney and First Lady Laura Bush were in a hurry after the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks.)

But none of them coincides with the number and size of changes Trump has launched. His personal involvement is also worth noting. This includes a surprising visit to the White House roof on August 5th, where you can “take a little walk” and see the area where the latest additions will be built.

Think of this: the area of the ballroom is not just a small accessory to the Eastern Wing. The size of the West Wing is almost triple. It’s two-thirds larger than the 55,000 square feet of the White House itself, and all six floors are combined.

Tim Cook pushes back Apple Intelligence in Race

0

Other tech companies push AI tools at full speed, but Apple is taking the time. Apple Intelligence features displayed in WWDC will not reach most users until at least 2025 or 2026. This is what Apple thinks is behind, but the company’s track record suggests it prefers to launch only when the product is ready.

In contrast, competitors such as Microsoft, Openai and Google have already shipped AI features widely. Often there are bugs and unreliable consequences, usually whether the user wants them. Today’s AI assistants still struggle with accuracy, consistency and usefulness for many tasks.

Apple is looking from the sidelines and appears to be waiting for the technology to mature. Instead of flooding iOS with half-working tools, it’s been suppressed. That strategy could be rewarded if users lose patience with over-recruitment or under-delivery AI.

Apple has done this before – they launched smartwatches and tablets late, but there are stronger products. You can also afford to wait as you already own the hardware and software and control your own app store.

If current AI tools don’t improve anytime soon, Apple’s slow, more careful rollout may seem like a smart plan rather than a hesitant one.

That measured approach doesn’t mean Apple is sitting still. Behind the scenes, the company is stepping up investments, employment and internal coordination to prepare for the AI shift. The strategy was fully on display during a recent all-hand meeting at Apple’s headquarters, where CEO Tim Cook gathered employees and laid out the company’s AI ambitions.

Apple is serious about artificial intelligence, and Cook wants everyone in the company on board. As reported by Bloombergduring a rare all-company gathering at Cupertino headquarters, he spoke to employees in person about: His message was clear. Apple has to win with AI. And now is the time to make it happen.

Cook called AI a generation shift and compared its impact to the effects of the Internet, smartphones and cloud computing. “Apple has to do this. Apple does this. This is ours,” he said. He promised that Apple would spend what it takes to compete.

The company is slower than others to deploy AI tools. Apple Intelligence (its major AI product) was introduced long after companies like Openai, Google and Microsoft launched their own products. And even when Apple finally announced its plans, the response was overwhelming.

See: Why Apple plays it slowly with AI

However, Cook noted that Apple often appeared late in new technology. “I had a PC in front of my Mac, I had a smartphone in front of my iPhone,” he reminded the staff. “There were many tablets before the iPad.” Apple didn’t invent these categories, he said, it only made them better.

Building the future of Siri

Much of the company’s current AI work is focused on Siri, the voice assistant. Apple originally planned a major overhaul as part of Apple Intelligence, so it added features with a large language model. However, its development was slow, leading to internal shakeups and a system-wide rethink.

Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi told employees that trying to merge older and newer versions of Siri doesn’t work. The team tried to maintain the original system for basic tasks such as setting timers, and added generation AI capabilities for more complex requests. However, the hybrid setup did not meet Apple’s standards. “We realized that our approach will not be led by Apple’s quality,” he said.

Now, the team is rebuilding Siri from scratch. A completely new version is currently underway, which is expected as early as spring 2026. Federigi said the results so far have been strong and could lead to more improvements than originally planned. “There’s no project that people take more seriously,” he told staff.

The key figure behind this new direction is Mike Rockwell, the executive who led the development of Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Rockwell and his software team are currently leading the Siri redesign. Federighi said they “supercharged” the work, bringing a new level of focus.

Investing in AI talent and tools

Apple is also rapidly expanding its AI team. Cook said the company has hired 12,000 people over the past year, with 40% of them participating in research and development, and many of those adoptions focused on AI.

Part of the work involves hardware. Apple is building new chips specifically designed specifically for AI, including a more powerful server chip internally known as “Baltra.” The company also opens an AI server farm in Houston to support future projects.

Beyond Siri, Apple is quietly building what could become the main AI tool. According to BloombergApple, Mark Gurman, formed a team called “Answers, Knowledge and Information” (AKI). The group’s job is to create searches that work like ChatGpt. This is not just about showing the link, but about giving a direct answer.

The AKI team is led by Robby Walker, who has reported to AI Chief John Giannandrea, and Apple already employs engineers from the group. Details are still limited, but the project appears to include backend systems, search algorithms, and even standalone apps.

Push to move faster

Cook also encouraged employees to start using AI more in their work. “We all already use AI in a critical way, so we have to use it as a company as well,” he said. He told employees to bring ideas to their managers and find ways to put AI tools into their products faster.

A sense of urgency was reflected during Apple’s recent revenue call. The company announced strong results, with a growth of around 10% in the June quarter, growing enough to ease concerns about slowing iPhone sales and weak outcomes in the Chinese market. Cook told investors that Apple is “significantly” increasing spending on AI.

However, the challenges remain. Apple expects to face a $1.1 billion hit from tariffs this quarter, and continues to deal with anti-trust pressure in the US and Europe. Regulators are checking how the company operates its app store and processes user data.

Cook acknowledged these issues at a staff meeting, saying Apple will continue to push regulators to adopt rules that do not undermine privacy or user experience. “We need to continue to push the regulatory intent,” he said.

New stores, new markets

Beyond AI, Cook touched on Apple’s retail strategy. The company plans to open new stores in emerging markets such as India, the United Arab Emirates and China. There’s a Saudi Arabian store on the way. Apple also focuses more on online stores.

“We need to be in more countries,” Cook said, adding that most of Apple’s future growth will come from new markets. That doesn’t mean that existing regions will be ignored, but the company has more opportunities to expand its global footprint.

What’s next for Apple products?

Cook did not reveal any details about the product, but he said, “I’ve never felt that excited or that energy before.”

The report suggests that Apple is working on several new devices, including a foldable iPhone, new smart glasses, updated home devices, and robotics. A major iPhone redesign is also being rumoured to mark next year’s 20th anniversary.

Cook didn’t confirm this, but he hinted at the big things ahead. “Product pipeline, I can’t speak. That’s amazing, guys. That’s amazing,” he said. “Some things will be seen soon, some will come later, but there’s a lot to see.”

Cautious but confident

Aph’s careful approach to AI may have slowed it down, but internally it appears that the company believes it has a slow and stable chance of winning the race. The message to Cook’s employees was clear. Apple can still define what a useful and responsible AI looks like. And everything that gets there is a deck.

Israeli military chiefs warn Gaza’s acquisition as Netanyahu considers “complete conquest” of the besieged territory

0

The Israeli military chief warned against the full acquisition of Gaza, according to three Israeli sources familiar with the debate, as he believes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ordering “conquest” of the besieged territory.

At a meeting with top officials on Tuesday evening, Israeli Defence Force (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir warned that a complete conquest of Gaza would lock up troops within the enclave and put the remaining hostages in danger, sources said.

Such a move will increase the burden on Israeli forces when the troops are already struggling with rates of attrition and burnout among the reserve forces, Zamir said.

According to two sources, Zamir’s plan called for the city of Gaza and other areas where hostages could be held while Netanyahu was pushing for a more disturbing operation into the region’s centre.

Netanyahu urged a security cabinet meeting on Thursday to support a full “strip conquest,” CNN previously reported.

The latest differences underscore the growing discrepancy between Israeli military leaders and their political hierarchies. While Israeli forces recommend pursuing diplomacy to end the war, Netanyahu and his government are seeking the biggest war goal.

Israeli forces have already controlled about 75% of Gaza after nearly two years of war, saying that the majority of the territory has left in abolished, causing a humanitarian crisis. Israel withdrew from Gaza 20 years ago, but Zamir warned that a full military occupation could tempt the IDF anew.

Zamir’s warnings opposed the far-right party of Israel’s government and once again the new military chief. They have repeatedly called for Israeli bombings and Gaza attacks to destroy Hamas.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gwil demanded on social media that Zamir has publicly stated “even if decisions are made regarding conquest and decisive actions,” “in his own voice,” and “in his own voice.”

After Tuesday’s meeting, the Prime Minister’s Office issued an official statement saying, “The IDF is ready to implement the decisions made by the Security Cabinet.”

On Wednesday, Netanyahu met with Yair Lapid, the opposing leader of Israel. He later issued a video statement calling the conquest of Gaza “a very bad idea.”

“You won’t be in that kind of move unless most of the country is behind you,” Rapid said. The people of Israel are not interested in this war – we will pay a price for it too. ”

Polls have repeatedly shown that the majority of Israelis support the end of the war in exchange for the release of the remaining 50 hostages in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry reported the highest death toll in weeks on Wednesday, with 138 people dead in the last 24 hours.

Five people have died of hunger in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Wednesday that it has brought about the total number of people who have died of hunger and malnutrition to 193 people, including 96 children.

Cogat, an Israeli agency responsible for bringing aid to Gaza, added that nearly 300 trucks entered Gaza and were collected and distributed by the United Nations and international organisations on Tuesday, with 110 aid being administered air in cooperation with the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Germany, Germany, Canada and Canada.

However, Hamas Control’s media office said only 84 trucks entered the enclave on Tuesday, adding that the strip requires at least 600 bailouts and fuel trucks to meet the basic needs of the population.

Former Elon Musk staff member was assaulted in DC during an attempted carjacking

Early staff from the government’s Department of Efficiency were assaulted in Washington, D.C., during a carjacking attempt on Sunday night.

According to a police report obtained by USA Today, officers observed a group of about 10 children surrounding Edward Colistine’s car and attacked him around 3am Sunday. According to the report, officers immediately got out of the car when they saw the incident and the children fled.

Coristin, who worked for one of Elon Musk’s companies before joining Doge, became an infamous government official due to the colorful nickname he once used online. Musk left the government in May, and many of his staff joined other parts of the government.

According to a police report, Coristine told police he saw the suspect approach the vehicle and commented on taking it. He was with his important others, but he relied on him to deal with the suspect who began attacking him after pushing him into the car for her safety, the police report said.

President Donald Trump posted a photo on social media of the bloody shirtless man Tuesday afternoon.

“Crime in Washington, DC is completely out of control,” Trump wrote. “Local ‘young people’ and gang members, only 14, 15 and 16 years old, are randomly attacking, robbing, suffering and shooting innocent citizens. ”

Police reports do not show that colistin was shot.

“If this continues, I will put my strength into my own way and federalize the city,” Trump wrote.

Local prosecutors will be dealt with primarily by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., and the Senate confirmed that Trump candidate Janine Piro ordered the role earlier this week.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced Tuesday that it had arrested two 15-year-old children from Maryland. They were charged with unarmed carjacking.

Trump announces new US investment of $100 billion

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is set to host Apple CEO Tim Cook at the White House on August 6th as Tech Giant, the company’s latest move to boost domestic production to protect popular iPhones from Trump’s sudden tariffs, announces a new $100 billion US investment.

Trump is expected to welcome the announcement confirmed by White House officials and first reported by Bloomberg. This brings Apple’s planned investment to $600 billion over the next four years.

Apple’s announcement includes a new “American manufacturing program” that seeks to provide Apple’s supply chain and sophisticated manufacturing to the United States, White House officials said in a preview of the president’s remarks.

“Today’s announcement with Apple is another manufacturing victory and will help us reswim the production of key components to protect America’s economic and national security,” Taylor Rogers, assistant secretary for White House spokesperson, said in a statement.

An Apple representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In May, Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on mobile phones manufactured by Apple and other companies in other countries. In a social media post on May 23, Trump produced more than half of India’s mobile phones, avoiding Chinese tariffs and picked out comments made during the call to revenue.

As part of a new wave of mutual tariffs set to take effect on August 7th, Trump signed an executive order last week to impose a 25% tariff on imports from India.

The White House has aggressively touted manufacturing investments from private companies as evidence that Trump’s tariff strategy is working.

Apple said in February that it would spend $500 billion on US investment over the next four years, including a huge factory for Texas artificial intelligence servers, adding around 20,000 R&D jobs nationwide. However, the Washington Post reported that a large portion of the $500 billion covers the usual costs of running its business.

LLMS, Data Scaling and Enterprise Adoption

Generating AI is entering a more mature stage in 2025. Models are refined for accuracy and efficiency, and companies incorporate them into their everyday workflows.

The focus is shifting from what these systems can do to how they can be applied reliably and at scale. What is emerging is a clear picture of what is needed to build a reliable generative AI that is not merely powerful.

New Generation of LLM

Large-scale language models abandon their reputation as resource-hungry giants. The cost of generating responses from models has dropped by 1,000 times over the past two years, in line with the costs of basic web searches. This shift makes real-time AI much more feasible for everyday business tasks.

This year’s priorities are also under control. The main models (Claude Sonnet 4, Gemini Flash 2.5, Grok 4, Deepseek V3) are still bigger, but are built to respond faster, more clearly and more efficiently. Size alone is no longer a differentiator. What’s important is whether the model can still handle complex inputs, support integration, and provide reliable outputs, even when complexity increases.

Last year, we saw a lot of criticism about the trends in hallucination in AI. In one well-known case, a New York state lawyer faced sanctions for citing a legal case invented by ChatGpt. Similar failures across the delicate sector have pushed this issue into the spotlight.

This is what LLM companies are fighting for this year. Higher Generation (RAG) of search, combining search and generation with grounded output of actual data, has become a common approach. It helps reduce hallucinations, but does not eliminate them. The model may continue to conflict with the retrieved content. New benchmarks such as RGB and Ragtruth have been used to track and quantify these obstacles, marking a shift towards treating hallucinations as measurable engineering problems rather than acceptable defects.

Navigate rapid innovation

One of the decisive trends for 2025 is the speed of change. Model releases are accelerated, features shift monthly, and what counts as cutting edge is always redefine. For enterprise leaders, this creates knowledge gaps that can quickly turn into something competitive.

To move on means to maintain information. Events like AI and Big Data Expo Europe provide an unusual opportunity to see where technology is moving forward through real-world demonstrations, direct conversations and insights from those building and deploying these systems at scale.

Enterprise Adoption

In 2025, the shift is moving towards autonomy. Many companies already use generated AI across their core systems, but now the focus is on agent AI. These are models designed to not only generate content, but also perform actions.

According to a recent survey, 78% of executives agree that they need to build a digital ecosystem for AI agents, just like people for the next three to five years. The expectation is to shape how the platform is designed and deployed. Here, AI is integrated as an operator. It can trigger workflows, interact with software, and process tasks with minimal human input.

Break the data wall

One of the biggest barriers to advances in generating AI is data. Training large-scale models traditionally relied on cutting down a huge amount of real-world text from the Internet. But in 2025, it’s dry wells. High quality, diverse, ethically usable data is difficult to find, and processing is more expensive.

This is why synthetic data is becoming a strategic asset. Rather than pulling it from the web, synthetic data is generated by the model and simulates realistic patterns. Until recently, it was not clear whether synthetic data could support large-scale training, but research from Microsoft’s Synthllm project has confirmed that it is possible (if used correctly).

Their findings show that synthetic datasets can be tuned for predictable performance. Importantly, they also found that larger models needed less data to effectively learn. It allows teams to optimize their training approach, rather than throwing resources into issues.

Make it work

Generation AI for 2025 is growing. Smarter LLM, coordinated AI agents, and scalable data strategies have become central to real-world adoption. For leaders navigating this shift, AI & Big Data Expo Europe has a clear view of how these technologies are applied and what they need to do to make them work.

American Indians and Native Americans in the state constitution

0

Recent U.S. Supreme Court cases have highlighted the permanent legal triads of the American Indians, state and federal governments. 2020s McGurt, Oklahomathe court has limited the ability of Oklahoma to prosecute major crimes committed on Muscogee (Cleek) state’s reservations. Two years later, in Oklahoma vs Castro Fuertathe court has made clear that there is simultaneous state and federal jurisdiction over certain criminal prosecutions in American Indian countries. And 2023 Haallandv. Brackenthe court upheld the federal Indian Child Welfare Act in the face of challenges added by several states that argued that the law violated the 10th Amendment.

In most cases, these cases acknowledge the broad federal power over the American Indian issue, based on constitutional provisions such as the Indian Commercial Clause, Treaty Clause, and Supreme Clause. However, American Indians are national citizens too, and each of these cases envisages the ongoing need to balance the interests of national and tribal governments. As a result, both Supporters and Scholar It rethinks the obligations the state has to American Indian citizens and how the National Constitution enlists to protect the interests of American Indians.

State constitutional provisions regarding general applicability are certainly available to American Indians along with other national citizens. For example, the groundbreaking environmental case for 2023 v. Montana Includes Feet Peck Assiniboine and Sioux youth plaintiffs. However, the constitutions of some states go further with provisions that explicitly address the issue of American Indians. The regulations fall into approximately six categories: land, taxation, games, voting, culture and governance.

Due to the legal complexity of tribal, state and federal relations, the following summary should not be considered a conclusive statement of the law, but as a starting point for further research.

Regulations for managing land

American Indian land status is often addressed by the constitutions of several states in a language derived from the original validation laws of states that secured entry into the United States. These provisions make it clear that federally recognized tribal lands within state boundaries are under federal control. Examples of such state constitutional clauses are as follows: Section XXI of Idaho, Section 19provided in the related parts:

The people of Idaho agree and declare that we will forever waived rights and titles on wasteful public lands within their boundaries and to all lands within the above restrictions owned or held by Indian or Indian tribes. He then said that the same would be subject to US disposal until the title for it was extinct by the United States, and that Indian land would remain under the absolute jurisdiction and control of the US Congress.

Similar provisions will be displayed in the state’s constitution under, Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahora, South Dakota, Yuta, Washingtonand Wyomingthere are several state-specific variations. for example, Article XII, Section 12 The Alaska constitution dealing with federal land within the state indicates that “fishing rights” are included in the definition of “property, or property held for India, Eskimo, or Allue, or its community.” Article XII, Section 1 of the Oklahoma Constitution It contains provisions that preserve Native American rights under the state’s own Homestead Act.

Native Hawaiians have legal recognition as Indigenous people, but as defined by the federal government, they are not members of recognized tribes. Hawaii’s constitution, in contrast to land clauses from other states Provided Specific lands in the state – It is equivalent to about 200,000 acres – “”The state shall hold it as public trust for native Hawaiians and the general public. ”

The Nebraska Constitution addresses the land rights of American Indians in a particularly narrow way: limit Acquisitions of farmland companies in the state exempt Indian tribal companies, particularly those who may engage in commercial agriculture. In contrast, Kansas’ agreement with the federal government to establish the state; Incorporated The state constitution imposes restrictions on the use of American Indian land by specifying that parts of each town include “.The land of reservations and trusts in India shall be granted to the State for the exclusive use of the general school. ”

Taxation and other finances

Some state constitutions specify that American Indian land is exempt from state taxation. For example, the Alaska Constitution Provided that No tax will be imposed on federal property, including American Indian land, “until Congress provides it.” New Mexico’s “Compact with the United States” governs the country’s membership and was incorporated as Article XXI of the state’s constitution, Similar regulationsThe same is true of the constitution of Arizona, South Dakota, Yutaand Washington. Some of these states’ constitutional provisions make it clear that Native Americans who have severed his or her tribal ties may be subject to state taxation. (Of course, the constitutional language of a state is a small part of the tax puzzle. More detailed information about federal taxation is available here,Information on state and local taxation that differs from location to location requires state-specific research. )

Beyond tax laws, Article IX of the Maine Constitution I will specify That the state may not be able to use “funds held in trust for the tribes of India” along with issuing bonds on behalf of the state. At the same time, the constitution permission The Congress will provide mortgage assistance to “members of two tribes on several Indian reservations.” (But be aware that there is now Four federally recognized American Indian tribes in Maine – Collectively known as Maliseet, Micmac, Penobscot, and Passamaquoddy, Wabanaki.

Voting rights

nThe debate when voting based on race was an important part of many states’ acts of efficacy when they joined the union. The lack of clarity regarding American Indian voting rights should have been eliminated in 1924, when Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act and granted citizenship and the right to vote for all Native Americans born within the United States.

Additionally, the constitutions of some states speak directly to the status of American Indians as voters. Main Constitution “eVery Indians who reside in tribal reservations and otherwise qualify will be elected in all county, state and national elections. ” The New Mexico Constitution addresses access to voters in the context of amendments to the state constitution. Statement “The Secretary of State will also make reasonable efforts to minority language groups to inform the electors of the amendments to provide notice of the content and purpose of the constitutional amendment legislated in Indigenous languages.” Michigan’s constitution specifies that it can be used by future voters. Photo identification It was issued by the tribal government to establish their identity for the purposes of the vote.

Games, lottery tickets, alcohol

Games on American Indian Lands are governed by the Federal Indian Games Regulation Act of 1988. The law recognizes tribal sovereignty over their land, but requires tribes to negotiate tribal compacts to provide casino-style games. The state government plays a role in setting these parameters, and the constitutions of some states recognize tribal games rights. For example, the California Constitution isMachines, lottery games, banks, and percentage card games are. . . It is permitted to be negotiated between the governor and the American Indian tribe and implemented and operated on tribal lands covered by the Congress approved compact. Colorado, Floridaand Michigan Specifically, exempt Indian land from the state’s generally applicable gaming laws and clear the path to filing for federal gaming laws. For federal authorities in this field, regardless of the constitutional provisions of this state, the act and tribal state compact are the main source of tribal games arrangements in all states.

It holds the New Mexico constitution Obsolete regulations See long-standing federal laws that banned the introduction of liquor on reserved lands in India. That was the federal ban on alcohol on Native American lands. It was lifted In 1953, these lands were subject to state liquor laws.

Protecting American Indian and Indigenous Cultures

The Hawaii Constitution, Article XII, Section 7, speaks directly to Hawaii’s Indigenous Culture, with the pledge to protect all rights exercised and owned for self-sufficiency, cultural and religious purposes. Whikak “Tenants” refer to descendants of Native Hawaiians. Although they joined the United States in 1959 and sometimes had large Native peoples a few months before their Hawaiian membership, the Alaska Constitution does not include recognition of traditional customs. author I believe this omission stems from the fact that Alaska Native Americans had little voice in the state’s constitutional drafting process.

Other state constitutions do not widely recognize native rights as Hawaii, but some contain provisions that recognize Native Americans’ rights to education and language. In particular, some of these provisions appear to expand beyond federally recognized tribes, depending on their terms.

Montana Constitution, Adopted in 1972includes provisions addressing education for American Indians. “The nation recognizes the clear and unique cultural heritage of American Indians and is committed to its educational goals to maintain their cultural integrity.” The passage of Montana in 1999. Indian education in all laws It made it clear that the goal of this education would “extend to all Montanans, whether Indian or non-Indian.”

Two states that adopted the “English only” constitutional provisions include exceptions to the American Indian language. Oklahoma English Method “Nothing in this article shall be construed as reducing or undermining the use, research, development, or encouragement of Native American languages for any purpose or for any purpose.” Arizona Law Obligation The exclusive use of English by the state government exempts government activities, including “using or preserving Native American languages.”

Governance

The constitutions of at least two states address the relationship between tribal governance and national governance. For example, the New York Constitution Exemption “Peacemaker Court or other Indian Courts” from the judiciary provisions of the state constitution. Hawaii establishes AN Hawaii office Manage realistic and personal property trusted for native Hawaiians. Furthermore, the state constitution I’ll clarify State laws enacted to comply with federal obligations may not be able to “reduce or limit the interests of Native Hawaiians” under a trust.

••••

The constitutional provisions of many states addressing the Indian issue remain trapped in Amber, reflecting a historical context that is unrelated today. They also fail to provide a platform primarily to address the fundamental issues of state law regarding Indigenous people’s experiences regarding historic and contemporary discrimination and efforts to protect cultural rights. As Professor Matthew Fletcher has observation“We have not yet kept up to our obligations to American Indian citizens.” From challenges to diversity initiatives to expanded recognition of the role of states in federal state-wide dialogue, federal level development provides a promotion of new attention to state constitutional provisions addressing Indigenous rights.

Trump accidentally calls Chief Christie Noem Christie Kerr

0

play

WASHINGTON – While thanking Cabinet members at an August 5 press conference, President Donald Trump appeared to be mistakenly referring to Homeland Security’s Department of Cristy Noem as professional golfer Christie Kerr.

FLUB occurred before Trump, 79, signed an executive order to create a White House task force that handles the operation and security of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He recognized the task force members, including Noem, who attended the briefing.

“I want to recognize several members of the task force, including our great Vice President JD Vance. Thank you, JD. Thank you, our great Attorney General Pam Bondy.

After that, Trump quickly corrected himself.

“Christie Kerr, do you know who Christie Kerr is?” he said, laughing Vance and others on stage. “She’s my friend. A great golfer.”

“Christie Noem, she’s a better golfer than you, and that’s the only thing,” Trump added. “But you’re good at so many other things, but thank you for being here and doing an incredible job.”

Noem smiled throughout the moment.

This is not the first time Trump has confused names. When he ran for president in 2024, he confused former Republican South Carolina Gov. Nicky Haley with former House Speaker of D-California Nancy Pelosi, and discussed the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

Trump is the oldest president to be appointed and has been laughing at the 82-year-old former president throughout his 2024 campaign and at his age to this day. Questions about Biden’s health have come to the forefront in recent months after several books detail the alleged decline in cognitive and physical activity.

In April, White House doctor Sean Barbabera released a memo highlighting the results of Trump’s annual physical examination. Barbabera writes that Trump “expands excellent cognitive and physical health and is perfectly suited to carry out the duties of a commander and head of state.”

Chongkin: Keeping China’s “cyberpunk city” in mind, which exists at so many levels

0

When he visited Chongkin last November, Joshua Guvi was worried that the cities he saw on social media weren’t that cool in real life.

Located in a mountainous region in southwestern China, this vast metropolitan city is known for its complex, multi-layered layout, and some call it the “8D city” of China. The entire area, including the outer part of the countryside, is the size of Austria. Due to the city’s unique inland geography and rapid growth, Chonging went nowhere, but not even a single building passed through the middle of it.

For tourists, and even some locals, who are lost in serpentine, the eye-opening chords are part of the fun.

“It actually shot a lot in response to my expectations,” says Guvi, a travel content creator in Canada.

These moments were compiled into videos on Guvi’s YouTube channel. He writes: “Chunkin feels like he’s peering into the future. Neon lives in motion. The city has its own pulse.”

The words are clearly mentioned. Guvi began his trip in Shanghai, but he says he wanted to experience a more authentic Chinese city soon.

“I’ve heard some people talk about it in Shanghai… Shanghai is a great city, but I wanted to see more of the real China compared to things like Shanghai that you can still get in English.”

He is not the only city to bypass Beijing, Xi’an and other cities in favor of Chongkin, along established Chinese tourist routes. Chord tourism has skyrocketed since the country reopened after the pandemic.

Social media has become the main way for young travelers to learn about the city. One virus post on Instagram shows the building that says, “I think you’re on the first floor, but in reality it’s 12th.”

According to data released by the government of Chong-Gin, the city welcomed around 1.3 million inbound tourists in 2024, representing an increase of 184% year-on-year.

In the first two months of 2025, the number of foreigners entering the city’s ports increased by 60% year-on-year, according to the Chili Immigration Bureau.

Local travel agency manager Li Tian says the city’s viral popularity has led to a “20-30% increase in foreign visitors.” She added: “We host more than 20,000 tourists each year, with international tourists currently accounting for around 10%. The outlook for inbound tourism is very promising.”

In response to growing international demand, the agency has added tours in English, Spanish, Thai, Japanese and Korean.

Li says that most foreign tourists usually stay in Chongkin for about five days.

Geographical proximity and affordable airfares make the majority of tourists come from Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea, but there is also an increase in visitors from Europe and Australia.

In fact, American tourists have seen the most notable increase. So, it’s particularly impressive considering that the only direct flight from the US to chili peppers is a weekly event on Hainan Airlines.

“At this point, the US is the number one country from a client-based perspective, accounting for around 20%. That’s already hundreds,” said Chen Min, the founder of a private travel agency founded late last year.

Tourists gather along the riverwalk near the illuminated Kinsmen Bridge. (Photo: Cheng Xin/Getty Images)

Chen launched a boutique travel agency after realising Cheong-Gin’s burgeoning popularity overseas. His company specializes in customized full and half-day experience for small groups of 1-4 people.

“In the first month, we only had a few orders. In the second case, maybe a dozen,” recalls Chen. “Now we receive hundreds of bookings each month,” he explained that the number of tourists fluctuates seasonally. Some of them explained that June tends to be medium, but December and April – Christmas and Spring Break are much more busy.

On Chen’s website, the most popular products include walking tours of the city’s old town and scenic hiking trails, and a themed itinerary that follows the steps of the viral trip of popular American YouTuber Ishowspeed this April.

Other feature destinations include the abolished nuclear military factory, the rock sculptures of Daz and three natural bridges in Oolong.

Defining the architecture of cheonggging is a challenge, a science fiction genre set in the lawless subculture of an oppressive society dominated by computer technology, with many dubbing Cyberpunk.

“Chongu’s architectural style is unique,” says Matthew Blair, 34, an American who moved to the city in 2009.

Wang Linkin, a 27-year-old Chungkin native who had previously studied in the United States, has become a freelance tour guide. He recently led a team of 20 American college students in the city.

“When I found out they were college students, I pulled out Luffy’s straw hat, which had been forgotten for a long time,” Wang says. “It was a big group so I needed something for them to follow. When I put on my hat, they call me ‘Luffy’ and trail behind me. ”

Wang took them on a tour that reflected Ishau Speed’s livestream adventure, including outdoor hillside escalators, towering 20-storey elevated overpasses and internet-famous “Kui Singh Building” that reflects the live stream adventures of Ishau Speed.

“They kept asking me questions,” Wang recalls. “Why is the eighth floor of one building connected to the first floor of another building? Are the monorails passing through the building blocking residents? Why are some windows covered with cages?”

In fact, Chongqing’s unique multidimensional layout is not an aesthetic design, but a need.

Located at the junction of the Jairing and Youngtze rivers in China, Chong is often referred to as “mountain city.” Housed with more than 32 million residents, the city traverses valleys, hillsides, river valleys and layered skylines. The highly challenging geography makes urban planning for traditional flatlands almost impossible with chili peppers.

The city buildings on Old Street and Chong Hills of the pros.

Instead, the functions of the city are organized and stacked in height. Transportation systems, residential buildings, commercial areas, sky gardens and pedestrian squares are all layered in terrain.

Buildings often have entrances on multiple levels, depending on the surrounding street level based on topography. As a result, a single skyscraper will have entry-level access on the first, 12th or 20th floors, creating what is called an incredible “8D space.”

Wang led a group of 20 American college students to one of the most iconic examples of Chonggin’s unique architectural landscape town, the Riziba Monorail Station, where the monorail passes through residential buildings built on a hillside that stretches along the Yangtze River deep in the town.

“That’s when I realized the most valuable reward of being a guide,” he added. “Through the eyes of travelers, I have started falling in love with my hometown again.”

In addition to his dramatic geography and urban visuals, Blair says he is passionate about all the spicy, but the food says he has kept him in Chongkin for 15 years.

“The tons of street food, late night barbecues and 2am hot pot restaurant also highlight CQ and frankly tasty,” Blair said. “The locals are resilient and as spicy as the food. They are generous, loud and alive. And they want you to be part of the culture.”

Like Beijing and Shanghai, Chonging is one of four state-level municipalities directly controlled by China’s central government.

And this little-known economic hub, located upstream of the Youngtu River, has quietly held its position for the past five years as China’s fifth largest economy. Last year, they surpassed Guangzhou to rank fourth in the nation, behind only Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen.

Due to its unique history and geography, the city has long been seen by the central government as a strategic hub for China’s “West” development campaign. During World War II, Chongking served as a wartime capital thanks to its mountainous regions and natural defenses. Today, the remnants of wartime military sites and foreign embassies coexist with everyday life in the city. Enjoy hot pots at the underground bomb shelter restaurant.

With the centre of gravity going viral online, local governments have invested heavily in both economic growth and cultural promotion.

In June this year, Chongqing announced its latest high-speed train station. Built to accommodate a large number of passengers, this passenger may be the world’s largest high-speed train station ever completed in a single phase.

As for Junggin’s dazzling nightscape, Zhao Wenjing, 41, from Junggin, says it has been decades since.

“It started around 30 years ago that Jeong-gin’s night view began around 30 years ago,” she said.

Last year, a comprehensive lighting plan was implemented for the Central Urban District of Chong. The city continues to develop night view observation points from multiple perspectives, both up and down, adding an outline illuminated by the Skyline’s landmark buildings.

Independent tour guide WAN also noted that the chili government promotes tourism in the city and is very aggressive in organizing regular drone shows, holiday light displays and fireworks shows.

The Drone Light Show, featuring 11,787 drones, set a new Guinness World Record on June 17, 2025 at Chonging.

During the peak travel season, local residents receive text messages from the government and kindly ask to stay home to increase the room for tourists to visit.

“I really believe there will be more and more international travelers coming,” says Zhao. “After all, the atmosphere at Chongqing is something that cannot be replaced by any other part of the world.”

Meanwhile, China’s recent wave of visa-free initiatives is part of a wider push to promote inbound travel.

Starting in December 2023, China has granted visa-free access to citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia. As of June 2025, China has unilaterally implemented visa-free entry for citizens of 47 countries, offering a simplified entry policy on arrival or simplified entry policies in a total of 54 countries.

Chongking Immigration Bureau data shows that in the first two months of 2025, the number of foreigners entering through visa-free access increased by 245% year-on-year.

Guvi tells CNN he will definitely recommend his friends and followers.

“I want us to stay longer,” he said.

Why Jobs Downgrade, which caused Trump to fire the head of statistics, was huge

0

play

  • The downward revision to US employment growth numbers is attributed to slowing the economy and job markets affected by trade and immigration policies.
  • Economists believe the revision reflects true economic slowdown, not data manipulation, citing factors such as lower survey response rates and the impact of tariffs.

The massive downward revision of U.S. employment growth, which led President Donald Trump to fire the heads of agencies who can explain numbers by the rapidly slowing economy and job markets amid Trump’s trade and immigration policies, is explained by the rapidly declining economy and job markets, not by data manipulation.

On August 1, Trump fired Erica Mantelfer, the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner, but revised its May and June payroll growth at 258,000 at 258,000 after the agency reported the benefits of the unfortunate 73,000 jobs in July.

Goldman Sachs said it marked the largest two-month revision outside the recession. I averaged 35,000 from May to July and earned monthly jobs.

“These important figures must be fair and accurate. They cannot be manipulated for political purposes,” Trump said in the Truth Society. He added, “I look bad because the number of jobs today was geared up to make Republicans.”

However, the forecaster said the revision would actually clear the gap between the surprisingly resilient job acquisition that was weak this year and other economic indicators such as GDP.

“I think this revision really resolved the discrepancies between GDP data and pay,” said Samuel Tombs, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. “I can’t see any reason to doubt the operation here.”

“To sum up, economic data confirms our view that the US economy is growing at a sub-potential pace,” Goldman Sachs wrote in a note to his client.

What is the current state of the economy?

Trump’s tariffs defeated activity in the first quarter by promoting imports as retailers and manufacturers restocked foreign goods to avoid imminent taxation (deducted from growth). That led to a second quarter reversal that softened GDP. After the effects of tariffs were cancelled on each other, the economy grew at a modest annual rate of 1.2% in the first half of the year.

There are two ways to grow the economy by adding workers, increasing productivity, or increasing productivity per worker. The slump in the economy coincides with substantial employment improvements in net profits from May to July, as the average rise in GDP of 1.2% can be fully explained by strong productivity gains, Tombs said.

There are other signs that the economy and job markets are losing steam. A June survey by CEO networking group Vistage found that just 42% of small business CEOs will add to their lowest staff next year, up to 2003.

How does the job work?

Each month, BLS reads first the previous month’s job profits and corrects the two-month figures based on follow-up surveys. The downgrade of 133,000 jobs in June marked the first revision of the month, with a 125,000 drop in May being the second final revision.

To come up with monthly employment growth estimates, agents look into 631,000 employment sites run by 121,000 companies and government agencies across the country. The department will modify the data twice as many employers either fail to respond to the initial survey or change the factors the authorities use to adjust the numbers seasonally, Goldman said. For example, because summers are traditionally weak in employment, seasonal adjustments will boost employment tallies to explain that flooding.

Even before the surprising revisions to May and June on Friday, employment growth from January to April was revised monthly at an average of 52,000 based on the third to third estimate from the first estimate. Last year, we saw an average downward revision, but only 20,000. Since 1979, the median total estimated variance over the two months has been an upward revision of 10,000.

Here’s why economists believe that the May and June salary revisions are extremely large:

Lower response rates, lower economy

The declining proportion of employers is in response to BLS employment surveys. According to grave and BLS figures, 58% responded in July, similar to July 2024, but as in July 2022, a decrease from 68% for the same period in 2022 and 2023, an average of 74% in the 2010s.

Small businesses in particular have struggled to deal with Trump’s tariffs, narrowing their profits as they have to be handed over to consumers and absorbed by businesses through higher prices, the grave said.

Among these issues, Jonathan Miller, senior US economist at Barclays, said that “responding to BLS is a high priority” for mid-sized companies.

And despite the investigation being anonymous, some businesses may be hesitant to admit that they blocked employment, the grave said.

Finally, when we reported the number of staffing, the third payroll estimate responded more than 90%. They may have declined from the previous month. According to Millar and the grave, businesses are increasingly restricting employment due to the uncertainty caused by customs duties.

It likely caused a sudden downward revision of job acquisition throughout 2025, but it could have darkened the work picture more dramatically in May and June when job pullbacks reached an “inflection point,” Miller said.

“I don’t think we’re facing a situation where there’s such a deep supply shock,” Miller said, referring to the restrictions on foreign parts and products caused by tariffs.

How the government interprets slowing employment

When employment growth slows, Goldman Sachs said that in the initial estimate, BLS is incorrectly attributed to changing seasonal trends. But as the subsequent measurements are also softer, the agency’s model knows it’s not a result of seasonal adjustment habits, but a true pullback of employment and corrects the total employment, the research firm said.

Immigrant suppression

Former President Joe Biden began restricting intersections at tropical borders in June 2024, with Trump tightening enforcement and launching a massive deportation in 2025, Miller said. He said the crackdown likely began to appear more pronounced in the number of jobs in May and June, as it takes six to nine months for immigrants to settle for employment.

There are few employment, few layoffs

For months, employers have not hired many workers, but have not hired many after tackling the disastrous workforce shortage during the pandemic. That extraordinary dynamic is to abandon seasonal adjusters that expect employment and layoffs to increase at certain times of the year, which could lead to staff members being more sharply corrected employment benefits, Goldman suggested.

State and local government jobs

About 20% of the major downward revisions in May and June came from the challenge of making seasonal adjustments to state and local educational employment figures at the end of the school year when many teachers and other employees dropped out of their pay, Goldman said. Initially, BLS overestimated the total number of jobs in the seasonally adjusted sector, adjusting it to 51,000 times over the course of two months, Goldman said.

Texas constituency combat hits more states, from New York to California

0

play

What began last week on Austin’s floor in Austin, Texas, quickly surged into multi-national standoffs with national impact as Lone Star constituency fights continue to bleed across the border.

Dozens of Texan Democrats fled to three blue states to vote for the proposed map.

Several democratic national leaders have joined the fight, and two GOP lawmakers recently announced efforts to take on the issue at the U.S. Capitol. President Donald Trump lent his opinion on the August 5 brawl as the battle for Republican Texas districts spreads across at least five states and attracts public attention.

Here’s how the Texas rezoning crisis swelled into state-state battles last week:

Illinois, New York and Massachusetts host Texas Democrats

The governors of Illinois, New York and Massachusetts host Democrats from Texas after fleeing from his hometown of state on Sunday, August 3rd. A massive absence from Congress should call for a new map vote that will likely pass through the GOP majority.

Under the new map, the Texas Legislative District in the metro area of Houston, Austin and Dallas will be redrawn, while a handful will be redrawn in southern Texas, creating five additional districts that will greatly support Trump in last year’s presidential election. Moreover, these new Republican-heavy districts are highly likely to go to GOP candidates in Congressional elections.

More than 67 Democrats from Texas had fled the state as of Tuesday, August 5th, with Republican Gov. Greg Abbott ordered arrests – it is unclear whether they can work with Texas law enforcement and out-of-state law enforcement agencies to implement the arrest order.

The state threatens to redraw its map accordingly

New York and California are threatening to launch a kind of political arms race between Democrats and Republican states, threatening to launch their own district changes.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who doesn’t host Texas legislators, has joined New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and threatened to use the state’s overwhelming blue majority to counter the Texas Republican plans. Both governors lead two of the most powerful democracies.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said at a press conference on Monday, August 4th, his plan was to “fight fires against fires,” and he would direct Democrats to advance efforts to redraw the Congressional districts of the most populous states if Texas moves forward on the proposed map. He said Democrats are moving forward with plans to develop a district change plan ahead of voters on November 4th.

At a press conference on the same day, Hochur discussed the possibility of a new map of her state.

“It’s war. We’re at war,” she said. “That’s why the gloves are off and I say, ‘Let it be on.’ ”

Republicans in Missouri, New York and California have proposed their own responses

In Red Missouri, a coalition of conservative GOP lawmakers in the state issued a statement on July 25th urging Gov. Mike Kehoe to call on his own district efforts, giving advantages to Republicans. Governor spokesman Gabby Picard told Politico on Tuesday, August 5 that Kehoe “provides a Congressional district that best represents Missouri people” and “always consider options” regarding the promotion of Map Redraw.

But not every GOP MP is riding on fighting another map along with one map. Two Republicans, Kevin Keeley of California and Mike Lawler of New York, have announced that they will introduce a bill to put national restrictions on all such partisan gerrymandering. Kylie’s proposal would ban mid-term rezoning, which is likely to surge Texas Republican efforts from New York and California and The-for-TAT proposals.

No matter what happens in Texas, the fight over the rezoning legislature will continue later this month in Ohio, with Republicans holding the vast majority in the state legislature.

Do you need to cleanse the parasite body? Doctors explain the social media outbreak

0

Recently, social media feeds have raw testimonies about “parasitic purification” and detoxification of DIY worms. Many people may be unconsciously infected, claiming that Tiktok and Instagram influencers have a treatment that involves mixing herbal supplements and ene intestines.

Kim Rogers, an influencer who calls himself a “worm queen,” created important support by posting videos of what happened when he performed a parasite cleansing that turned into a viral in Tiktok, and posting videos that stem from infection with a variety of symptoms, such as brain fog and fatigue. She’s selling her treatment now. Even supermodel Heidi Krum said this week that after displaying information about parasites and worms on Instagram, he began cleaning up with tablets containing cloves and papaya seeds.

How do you catch parasites and worms? What are the symptoms? How do you know that you have a parasitic infection? What are these cleansers and do they work? If not, how can people get rid of the worms? And should people try them?

To help with these questions, I spoke with Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and auxiliary associate professor at George Washington University. She previously served as a health committee member in Baltimore.

CNN: How do you catch parasites and insects?

Dr. Wen’s Childhood: Let’s start with a simple definition and clarification. Parasites are organisms that live on or inside the host and feed them to survive. Many types of parasites affect external health such as lice and mites, as well as human health, including internal microscopic parasites such as giardia and cryptosporidium.

Parasites are one of the most common endoparasites in the gastrointestinal tract. People are usually infected by ingesting worm eggs and larvae through contaminated food, water or soil. High-risk foods include undercooked pork or beef, raw freshwater fish, and unwashed vegetables and fruits. Don’t wash your hands thoroughly after using the bathroom and before eating, which can also increase your risk of infection. In some cases, certain worms can penetrate directly into the skin, especially in areas with poor hygiene, when walking outdoors barefoot is the norm.

Such infectious diseases are rare in the United States and other high-income countries. Most documented cases occur among travelers who have returned from areas where parasites are more common, or among people with specific exposures, such as contact with infected animals. But worldwide, parasite infectious diseases are a global health threat. The World Health Organization says it affects an estimated 1.5 billion people (approximately 18% of the world’s population) mainly in tropical and subtropical regions.

CNN: What are the common types of intestinal parasites that infect humans? What symptoms do they cause?

Wen: Globally, the most common intestinal parasite that causes human infections is a type of roundworm that causes infectious microvasculasis. In the US, it is a pinworm.

Pinworms are the most common intestinal parasites in the United States.

Ascaliosis is often asymptomatic, meaning that infected people do not show signs of illness. When an infection causes symptoms, people can experience stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stool, loss of appetite and fever. The worm eggs migrate to the lungs and can cause symptoms such as coughing, vomiting blood, and shortness of breath.

Pinworm infection can also cause symptoms such as stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting. Some people also have anal itching that wakes up from sleep. Others may be asymptomatic.

Various other intestinal parasites can cause severe symptoms, especially if left untreated over time. These complications include malnutrition, anemia, impaired and development of child growth, and maternal and infant mortality.

CNN: How does anyone know if you have a parasitic infection? How is it diagnosed?

Wen: A common test is a fecal stool test that searches for eggs and parasites in the stool. People are usually given instructions on how to collect specimen cups and stools. Some parasitic infections can be detected through blood tests. Endoscopy and colonoscopy where the camera is handed over to the gastrointestinal tract can be used for persistent symptoms and there is no clear diagnosis through other tests.

CNN: What are these cleansers driven by social media influencers and do they work?

Wen: These so-called “cleansing” or “detoxification” claim to be able to remove the body of intestinal worms. It often contains a variety of herbs, oils and supplements that are claimed to have antiparacic properties. In many cases, people are supposed to follow a specific diet that reduces high fat, high sugar, and ultra-high processing foods.

I certainly think a healthy diet full of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and other minimally processed foods is a good idea, but such a diet does not remove parasites. Furthermore, people need to know that supplements such as vitamins and herbs are not regulated like medications, so they don’t need to prove they work for the purposes they are being sold before they are sold. Additionally, these vitamins, oils, herbs and other supplements are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treatment of parasitic infections.

CNN: How can people get rid of worms if these cleansers don’t work?

Wen: There are various antiparasiidae drugs approved by the FDA to treat enteroinvas infections. Some of these treatments include a single dose. In other words, all you have to do is take one pill. Others have longer courses of treatment, but most courses still only last for 3 days. These treatments are extremely effective.

CNN: Your advice is to avoid trying these do-it-yourself cleansers?

Wen: I have three main concerns about these cleansings. First, if someone has symptoms that appear to be caused by a parasitic infection, you need to find out if it is really the case for a medical professional. For example, people with fatigue actually have nothing to do with parasites, such as thyroid problems or low iron levels. Abdominal symptoms can be due to many different causes, some of which may be linked to the infectious organism, but many do not. By self-treating like this, you don’t want to miss another diagnosis.

Secondly, if what someone has is truly a parasite infection, they need proper treatment. FDA approved drugs should be easy to use and target the specific worm in question.

What is the harm in some people trying to cleanse asymptomatic people? My third concern is that all treatments are risky. If you are not symptomatic and have no reason to use treatment, you should consider the risks to outweigh the benefits.

If people insist on trying cleansing anyway, I would recommend that they talk to their healthcare provider first. Supplements are not as closely regulated as medications, so people need to know exactly what they are taking.

If you are using prescription medications, you should ensure there are no dangerous drug interactions. And again, if you have symptoms that make them think they may have a parasite, they really need a proper diagnosis, if you try the formulas that these influencers recommend Without medical guidance, it can lead to misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, and even unintended harm.
