LOS ANGELES – The new owner of Thrifty Ice Cream has announced plans to expand the brand after being pulled out of the wreckage of Rite Aid’s bankruptcy.

“We are planning to revitalize Thrifty without changing the core of what we’ve never forgotten for over 85 years,” Hilrod Holdings said in a press release on August 7th.

According to court documents, Hillrod was appointed as the ice cream maker bidder in court documents filed June 26th.

The holding company, linked to Monster Beverage Corporation executives Hilton Schlosberg and Rodney Sacks, paid $19.2 million on the assets they purchased, according to court documents. According to SEC filings, Sacks resigned as CO-CEO in June before resigning from the company, but Schlosberg continued as CEO.

“The new ownership group brings deep experience with the goal of preserving and enhancing the brand,” reads the press release. “This acquisition has brought great benefits to the brand that many feared and blended into history.”

What’s next for Thrifty Ice Cream?

The press release said ice cream will remain on the shelves of current retailers, whose distribution begins with “The Fall.”

The original recipe will continue to be tacted to introduce new flavors and packaging options, but the press release did not provide details on when the new options will hit store shelves.

According to a press release, Hillrod will invest in modernizing manufacturing and logistics to “ensure quality, availability and long-term growth.”

“What began as a pharmacy counter staple has become the cornerstone of West Coast nostalgia. Now it’s become a modern heritage. It’s one scoop at a time,” reads the press release.

According to its website, RIF about ice cream started when RIF about drug store owners Harry, Robert Born and Norman Levin began producing ice cream for sale at the chain’s soda fountain.

According to Thrifty, ice cream had reached “cult status” on the West Coast by the 1970s, with “critical celebrity screams.”

Will JD Vance be running in 2028? VP gets heavy after Trump makes comments

play

WASHINGTON – Vice President JD Vance said it was “too early” to consider the 2028 election as political observers speculate whether to start bidding for the White House.

The conversation comes after President Donald Trump suggested that Vance was the heir to the Magazine movement to reporters on August 5th. Trump does not formally support GOP successors, but he has admitted that Vance is “probably preferred at this point.” Trump also said Secretary of State Marco Rubio would “maybe be with JD in some way.”

Vance said he saw Rubio a month ago on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” but they both said they “laughed the whole thing.”

“Neither of us is focused on politics. We are actually focused on doing a good job for Americans,” Vance said.

“If we do a good job, number one, that’s a reward in its own right,” Vance added. “It all made a huge difference in our country’s life over the last six months and the next three and a half years. But if we do a good job, politics takes care of itself.”

Vance also said it was “too early to think about the political future.”

“Frankly, it’s too early to think about 2026,” he said. “It’s certainly too early to think about 2028.”

Rubio, who ran for president in 2016, told Fox News host Lara Trump in a July interview that he believes Vance will become a strong candidate for Republicans in 2028.

“I think he does an amazing job as a vice president. He is a close friend and I hope he is going to do that,” Rubio said.

Regarding his own political aspirations for the future, Rubio said, “I feel honest. You never know what the future holds.

Vance is working on the Ukrainian Peace Contract ahead of Trump and Putin’s meeting

Vice President JD Vance said the negotiated settlement between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to satisfy either side, and that the peace deal is likely to make both Moscow and Kiev “unhappy.”

He said the US is aiming for a settlement that both countries can accept.

“No one will be very happy. Perhaps at the end of the day, both Russians and Ukrainians will be dissatisfied with it,” he said of Fox News Sunday Morning Futures and Maria Bartilomo.

President Donald Trump said Friday that he will negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15th.

Trump said Russia and Ukraine are approaching a ceasefire agreement that could end the three and a half year conflict, and could possibly require Ukraine to abandon key territory.

However, Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelenki added on Saturday that Ukraine cannot violate the constitution on territorial issues and that “Ukrainians will not give land to the occupying people.”

In a Fox News interview recorded last week, Vance said the US was working to schedule consultations between Putin, Zelenskyy and Trump, but he didn’t think it would be productive to see Putin with Zelenskyy before speaking to Trump.

“We’re now trying to figure out what’s going on, frankly, when we’re trying to figure out what’s going on about the schedule and stuff, when these three leaders can sit down and discuss the end of this conflict,” he said.

Bernie Sanders calls for a “pathetic” push for Texas constituency

play

WASHINGTON – In a new interview called the Texas Republican Constituency Push, Sen. Bernie Sanders made a “pathetic” push, urging Democrats to “fight back.”

Sanders’ comments on CNN’s Dana Bash come when Texas Democrats fled the lonely Star State State on August 3rd. President Donald Trump is calling for change.

“What Trump is trying to do is understand that Republicans are likely to lose control of their homes,” Sanders said.

“So what should Democrats do? To say, ‘Oh, hey, Trump is doing this terrible – we can’t do anything, let us win the election’, Democrats have to fight back when they shouldn’t. I think that’s pathetic, but I think that’s what they have to do.”

California Democrat Gavin Newsom, New York’s Kathy Hochul and Illinois’ JB Pretzker have threatened to launch their own district theory efforts that could give Democrats a boost.

After the new US Census Bureau figures are released, federal law will need to be rezoned every ten years. But Trump encouraged Texas Republicans to jump the process in the mid-10 years. When he appeared on CNBC on August 5, the president argued that Republicans “qualify for five more seats” for their 2024 election victory in the state.

The 38 Texas Congressional delegation is currently made up of 25 Republicans and 12 Democrats, with one Democrat leaning vacant.

Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered Texas law enforcement to arrest Democrats who left the nation, preventing Congress from holding a quorum to stop votes in his district. Many of the state legislators went to nearby Illinois.

But a longtime independent lawmaker on CNN’s “coalition status” said he believes Democrats have more work to do beyond the battles of southern constituencies.

Sanders, who travels around the country on a “combat Oligarchy tour,” which aims to mobilize voters against the Trump administration, accused Democrats of turning their backs on working-class Americans. For example, he argued that former vice president Kamala Harris was “strongly influenced by the very wealthy people” in the 2024 presidential election, when she lost to Trump.

“How do you run for the president and not develop a strong agenda that speaks to the economic crisis facing workers’ families?” he said. “Today there is more income and wealth inequality than we have ever had.”

Sturgeon Moon Peak in Miss August? What to expect on a Sunday night

0

play

The full moon in August has peaked, but there is still time this month before the full moon begins to fade.

There are only four full moons left in 2025, so some may try to catch all of them while they have the chance.

But can you still see the full moon in August? Luckily, the answer is yes.

The August full moon, known as Sturgeon Moon, peaked, but it still looks full to those who missed it over the weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 sturgeon moon and the rest of the moon.

When was the full moon in August?

The full sturgeon moon in August peaked at 3:54am ET on August 9th early Saturday morning.

Can we still see the full moon in August after the peak?

yes!

According to NASA, the moon begins its next phase and appears full with the naked eye for several days before it becomes a waning Gibbs.

Why is it called Sturgeon Moon?

The name of the sturgeon comes from sturgeon, a freshwater fish that was once abundant in North American Great Lakes at this time of year. Sturgeons can measure over 6 feet in length and weigh about 200 pounds.

The fish dates back 136 million years ago. Native Americans and Lake Champlain, who live near the Great Lakes, once caught fish at the end of summer, which became a regular part of their diet. Today there are about 29 species of sturgeons.

What is the other name for Sturgeon Moon?

Other names for Sturgeon Moon include the following, according to the Old Farmers Yearbook:

  • Corn Moon (the people of Algonquin and Ojibwe)
  • Harvest Month (Dakota people)
  • Mountain Shadow Moon (Tlingit People in the Pacific Northwest)

Tips for watching the moon this weekend

The moon will be visible without special tools, but those who want to see details of the moon’s surface can invest in binoculars overlooking the stars or backyard telescopes.

Depending on the time and date, those who want to see the moon and stars that night can try the following:

  • Check what time the sun sets in your area
  • Please check to see how long the moon will go up and set in your area
  • Look at the moon while you’re in a dark place away from artificial light
  • Let your eyes be adjusted for 15-20 minutes
  • Check the weather in your area

When will the next full moon be?

The next full moon, known as Harvest Moon, occurs on Sunday, September 7th. This is when other full moons in 2025 are expected.

  • Hunter’s Moon– Monday, October 6th
  • Beaver Moon– Wednesday, November 5th
  • Cold Moon– Thursday, December 4th

Now that my kids have gone to college, what should this empty Nestor Daddy do?

0

This month, our twin boys (our only child) fly out of the shed and head to college. For the first time in 19 years, only the two of us and the 12-pound Maltese Shiz Tsau are rattling in our family homes.

The laughter and music that echoed through the walls are gone, and my wife and I enter a new uncertain phase in our lives. We become an empty nest.

Certainly, this is a rather harsh interpretation of what happens to empty nesting, but I hope we are well prepared. We have discussed our dreams for the future, unable to spend too much time, and have explored restaurants where pickle ball paddles were ordered. Still, it was hard to ignore the difficult finality that had creeped up over us for years. Empty nesting is a phrase that appears to be filled with heartache and fear.

With high school graduation approaching last May, I was able to feel the emotional knife twisted as my social media feed filled with nostalgic images from the first day of kindergarten alongside the final day of 12th grade. We have begun to transcend the imminent transition. My wife even explained the grocery store pain dagger when she finally bought a packet of brown paper lunch bags.

19 years ago, Liddell and his wife, Jennifer, are preparing to become empty nestors.

It feels like our boys arrived together yesterday. Ever since, we have been worried and wondering whether the boys are ready when it’s time for them to take off themselves. But then I began to wonder if the question should be “Are you ready?” instead. Are you ready to move from “parent” to “couple”?

I often think of my old London friend who raised five children over the course of about 25 years. When the last one left, she turned to her husband and asked for the first time in a quarter of a century, “So, how are you?”

We are clearly not the first generation to experience empty nests. This is a concept that was created in 1914 and reportedly became popular in the 1970s, but we may be the first generation to openly talk about it.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently discussed how she was using therapy for new stages of her life after “launching” her daughter. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay admitted that when his son went to college he was so sad when he went into his son’s bedroom and put on his underwear.

Liddell says it appears that his son was born yesterday.

Ramsay’s sincere sincerity crushes the myth of the empty nest, where the mother is the only one who is emotional when the children leave. British author Celia Dodd, who recently updated his 2011 book, “The Empty Nest: How to Stay Near Your Adult Child,” said that while her father often appears to be dealing with the transition well, she may be struggling the most.

“I thought my husband was just a heartless asshole,” she recalled when her eldest son left the house. “He went, ‘It’s great, they’ll have a great time.’ In fact, he felt as sad as me.

Understanding how fathers are affected never minimizes attachment between mothers and children. This is a bond that (almost) forms within the uterus.

Other parents have told me to expect a lot of emotions, but certainly the most pressing thing was the feeling of loss in the weeks since departure. “When empty nestors talk about teenagers,” comedian Jim Gaffigan said, “It always sounds like they’re describing hurricanes. “My wife and I thought we were ready.

Madonna wasn’t that dramatic when she talked about her daughter Lourdes leaving, but she still compared it to losing her arm. Once you come to agree with it, there is an identity crisis that you often navigate.

As Dodd wrote in “The Empty Nest,” “It was clear to me that farewelling from a child, which has been the center of your life for 21 years, was a real big deal.

She said, “It’s the back of the emotional regulation of the earthquakes that new parents experience at the birth of their first baby. A return to a childless life is still a parent, but requires another massive readjustment of the world and your place.”

Since my parents’ generation, family life has been revolutionized. Dodd observes that many modern parents are closer to their children than their former parents. They are more involved in their lives, and some even want to be friends with them.

I am extremely proud of my sons, excited about their future, and as hard as letting go. We all recognize that it is important to change the dynamics of family relationships. They know that we are always here if we need us, but we are not going to check in every day to see how they are doing.

Perhaps the biggest concern is the increased divorce rate among empty nesting people. On my recent trip to London, some of my friends have rammed through a list of recently separated peers. It was an anecdote, but a few cases looked surprisingly expensive.

Why can even a seemingly solid couple come across problems when it’s just the two at home? “It’s hard to imagine what life will look like when you’re alone, and it’s natural to wonder what you’re talking about on earth,” Dodd wrote.

“One mother sums it up: “All of a sudden you’re alone, looking at each other and realising you haven’t paid much attention to each other in years.”

The Riddells in Rome are planning to embrace their independence in more adventures.

I want my kids to succeed and find their independence. The ultimate dream of a parent is to see our children soar. Similarly, I seem to recognize the voids that their departure produces. Our sons asked multiple times if they were okay when they were gone. This level of emotional maturity shows me that they do well on their own.

I’ve been thinking about this pressing transition for many years, so I’m no longer afraid of it. In fact, I’m learning to accept it. Thinking and preparation are important. Like the way you think, you should find a purpose rather than “fill in the hole.”

The intentional date night has already returned to the calendar and my wife is excited to devote her full time to her art career. My creative space is the garden and garden, so in the end the plants will pay my full attention and attention. Over the next few months, I bought tickets for ghost tours, shows, and even gigs in Canada. This seems very rock and roll.

The frequently cited translations that say that the symbol of China’s crisis means that both danger and opportunity are not completely accurate, choose to believe it at this stage in my life.

Our children aren’t the only ones who have gained their independence. We will rediscover it too.

The new CNN documentary offers a rare behind the scenes look at Ecuador’s deadly drug war

0

Ecuador, Quito

He says he was 18 when he first joined the Ecuadorian gang 10 years ago. The man, now a senior commander with a wife and children, barely casually admits that he is contributing to the deadly drug trade that is plaguing the country.

“Yes, I’m part of the problem,” he tells CNN’s David Culver, agreeing to talk, but darkened, away from the crowd, disguising his face.

“They gave me everything,” he said of the gang, claiming he joined them out of despair. Ten years later, he says he won’t quit, saying, “It’s a huge economy and no one wants to let go of a good business.”

Ensuring such a conversation meant running on a compact, tightly tuned crew, including CNN producer Abel Alvarado, research producer Barbara Arvanitidis, photojournalist Alex Platt and security coordinator Crendon Greenway. Together they sailed through gang territory, military raids and far-flung seas, capturing the story in new documentaries.

In Esmeralda, a coastal province where cocaine is often imported from Colombia, he spoke to authorities and residents about how violence has overturned everyday life. In Los Rios, a region that produces many of Ecuadorian banana exports, after leaving the farm, drug traffickers often visited plantations to learn how to slide cocaine into fruit containers. In the coastal city of Manta, they were on military ships to see how authorities worked to stop smugglers at sea before they arrived in the US or other countries. And in the Galapagos Islands, they quietly saw an ecotourism hotspot that became a “gas station” for drug boats.

The suspicious fuel/drug runner was arrested by the Navy and returned to Manta's shore.

The executive, a documentary produced by Susan Chun, rarely sees how Ecuador has become a super highway for Narco. It airs Sunday at 9pm on CNN’s “The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper.”

Below, Calver and Alvarado, from Ecuador, discuss their report. Their answers are compiled for clarity and brevity.

What drew you to the story and ultimately forced you to produce this documentary?

Culver: We’ve been covering Ecuador together in early 2024 from this surge in violence. That was actually my first trip to Ecuador. And I was caught off guard at that moment and seeing what looked like such a normal and relevant society caught me off guard.

How does the country go from such a paradise, island of peace to a chaos? And from the outside, it all seemed to have happened in a day. But then, when you start pulling the thread, you start to realize there is a lot to get into.

Alvarado: I’ve been to Ecuador more for stories than I recently visited my family. And these stories have continued to grow and grow over the past few years. I remember the first story I featured for CNN. It was a protest. It was very internal. Certain groups, the national sector, were angry at the government. But then, when the crime begins, we begin to realize that it never happened there.

A presidential candidate was murdered a few years ago. That was very unprecedented. And I was there for that. Then, a few months later, in January 2024, we fled from prison, the gang leader, the main crime leader. The next day we saw the President retaliation against him for declaring a state of emergency… in my case it was very difficult to see the spiral in this country where I grew up – this beautiful place, very peaceful – in my case. And for this documentary, our goal was to capture this situation and follow the chain of what is happening in this country.

While reporting there, what was the biggest surprise you had?

Culver: Considering the Galapagos, it is clearly linked to Finch and evolution and (Charles) Darwin, but another kind of evolution is beginning to happen.

It has become symbolic in a very dark and very dark way what is happening to the people of Ecuador. And one of the things we did intentionally is to simplify and humanize the story. And we open a documentary with the couple in their home, and they have clearly not been exposed to the media, let alone the previous international media. And here they are in a very fragile moment, in a very frightening moment, but in a very hopeless moment, trying to explain the son’s loss of disappearance, and the documentary flows out of it.

Duran, Juan Marinho and his wife, Evelyn Rozano. Their son, Alejandro, went missing. The fear is the murder of ganglands, but they have not given up on hope.

AlvaradoEcuador always had this feeling, especially the military – “We have this, we trained soldiers.” That was always the case. But they were very honest about their needs…and it comes with this new reality that the country is experiencing.

One general (Clever Guaitarira, commander of Manavi’s Joint Task Force) was very open, like “We need all the help we can get.” They wanted to show us some of the equipment they use. And when we got there they’re like, “Oh, in fact, it’s not working.” There is a lack of work equipment, a lack of resources they have.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in creating this story?

Alvarado: I think it started even when we were planning. It’s a small country…but still, it’s not easy to get from point A to point B. And there is always this risk factor for us… and we can match our eras during the raids with the authorities during the raids, so that we can open these gang leaders, drug runners, to us.

We asked ourselves: “Why do they talk? Why do they put their safety at risk? They are not afraid of the police. They are afraid of other gang members snitching. Why do they do that?”

And the gang members were revealed to us. Because he wants to explain how the domestic situation leads all these young people into that world… David asked him, “Why did you enter this?” He says, “They gave me shoes.”

Have you ever faced security concerns while you were there?

Culver: I think it was probably the most uncertainty when we entered Choneros (gang) territory. And we are in the middle of a meeting to show how fast things move. This happens at least twice, and usually involves talking to the Navy and military and high-level officials.

At the border of two rival gangs: CNN meets top commanders deep in Ecuadorian gang territory

Alvarado: Even in quiet moments in certain areas, I was sometimes nervous. Cameras, foreigners can attract the attention of locals. And in those quiet moments, I was like I was keeping my eyes open. In Guayaquil and many parts of Latin America, it’s easy to get away, so you know that hit men are usually operated on motorcycles. So they’re just going in and they’re like zigzagging inside the car. So there was a moment when I was driving. I’ll see all these motorcycles in the rear view.

And that’s what I feel when I get back. Sadly, every time I arrive in the country, I have this tension in the air. And that’s because you feel you can’t trust anyone.

Culver: You don’t leave much space for idle time there. And it’s kind of intentional. The fact that I was learning this from Abel – some of his family even changed their routines so much that they were too unpredictable in their daily lives.

What have locals told you about the challenges they experience every day and how to overcome them?

Culver: Just like in the US, it depends on who you talk to in such a situation. This means that the parents of the young man who disappeared can know that they are in poverty and that they really have little resources. They are trying to raise four other children. Dad is a security guard and his mother is trying to keep the house. It’s incredibly understated. And I think there’s just a real struggle to provide to families in these types of situations.

But then you’ve seen that you’re middle class and in Esmeralda, there are people who want to go out to restaurants on Friday nights and enjoy music and warm weather. And they just seem to have accepted, OK, this is what you live in a war zone, but you’re still going to try and live within that war zone, right? You are still trying to find joy in moments of relaxation.

Alvarado: My childhood friend Joaquin spoke in this documentary. We wanted to include that too – what does it look like for the people who live here? Joaquin is someone who has the resources to live in the United States. He works for a US-based company. He makes good money. He may be here, but he chooses to be there for his family, parents, and siblings.

Hilltop house in Guayaquil, Ecuador's busiest port.

What would you like viewers to take from this documentary?

Culver: You begin to realize that the interconnectivity of this crisis is immeasurable. That’s why we see the US increasingly involved in what’s going on there. And I was based there until 2009, with the existence of the US military.

I think our intention is to put this on the map in a broader way. Because we’re certainly late and faster to hear that the US is becoming more and more involved. As an audience, you will start to understand why it is for this Narco SuperHighway, which contains drugs, but how could this end if Ecuador doesn’t get the help they are pleading with.

Alvarado: I put this little country on a map and make people understand what life is like there. Ecuador’s internal problems are also driven by drug consumption in the US, Europe and many other places.

If people learn about the situation there, I’d be happy (and) understand: Ah, amazing. It’s not just Ecuador. Other countries have something to do with this. But apart from that, I am also happy that people learn the possibilities. And there’s more to it after this violence and drug trafficking to recognize that Ecuador is the Amazon, the Andes, the Galapagos and the Pacific coast.

China’s “Super Embassy” plan in the heart of London is a plan for locals who fear their safety

London

It is a quiet and modest path with stone throws from some of London’s most famous landmarks.

However, if there are plans to build a new “super banknote” in the area, it is likely that they will be looking through the windows of Chinese embassy staff balconies.

China is moving forward with design That new The diplomatic post base at Royal Mint Court, in the heart of London, near Tower Bridge, a large plot in the Tower of London. The impressive building, now empty, was once home to a facility that produced British currency.

As the proposal moves on, China will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in building transformation and remake it as Europe’s largest embassy. China bought the historic land in 2018 for around $312 million.

The plan raised fears of espionage and rattled locals in the tense area This comes when bounty is issued from Beijing for their personal safety and for the British Hong Kongers. The UK was a popular destination for many migrations A former British colony and now a semi-autonomous Chinese city, Beijing has cracked down heavily with opposition over the past five years.

“The building is a very British monument… it was a royal mint. So it’s a bit of a joke to give it all that is happening at the moment by foreign governments, especially the Chinese,” he told CNN.

“Our office is just facing it. We’re one unit in a block of 2,000 employees working there. I’ve never heard anyone say one good thing about it.”

After many government conflicts, British deputy prime minister and housing secretary Angela Rayner is expected to make a final decision by September 9th on whether to lighten the controversial plans green.

Last week, Rayner gave China two weeks to explain why some of the blueprints offered to the vast embassy site have turned black.

The letter, seen by the UK’s PA Media News Agency, sets an August 20 deadline to give inferences on compiled information.

CNN has We contacted the Chinese Embassy in London for comments.

Previous applications for the Beijing embassy were initially rejected in 2022 by the local Tower Hamlet Council for security reasons. Beijing resubmitted its application last year Just a few weeks after Labour came to power in the UK, we hope that the new government led by Kiel’s Stage will more than accept the demand.

The empty Royal Mint Court was scheduled for redevelopment Before China can make a purchase, it will be in a complex with shops, offices and leisure centres. Since then, around 100 homes in the area have been categorized into ChineseOwned land.

If the embassy plans go further, these assets remain on Chinese land, but do not fall under embassy territory.

Locals in West Cart Light Street apartment block You will notice that it is adjacent to the embassy staff’s residential area. CNN understands that the balcony, which is purposefully built for diplomatic staff, is visible from the rear window of the block.

Royal Mint Court Residents Association, representing approximately 300 people living nearby He is engaged in a long-standing battle between buildings and plans. They say they are afraid of how China can use its power as a landlord after the embassy is built next door.

Mark Nigate, 64, the association’s treasurer, lives on property just a few meters from the site. The block’s parking lot is separated from the embassy site proposed by what Nygate calls “soft borders” by a simple wooden fence.

Speaking to CNN, Nygate is concerned that Chinese landlords could perform a random search of property, or residents could face a spy accusation. He said, “I like taking photos. I have assignments. I take photos of it, but in reality it flows along the border.”

Nygate continued. “It’s so easy to take a picture of something and they’ll think you’re spying.

“They own our land, so they are our landlords and therefore they can be sure they will check us out if they find something they are not satisfied with.”

London metropolitan police have also expressed concern over the large-scale demonstration at the embassy, warning that it could interfere with traffic, spill over roads and affect tourist destinations.

Protesters are holding placards during a demonstration outside the Royal Mint Court against the proposed location of the new Chinese Embassy.

Meanwhile, protesters and rights groups fear that the new embassy building will promote espionage and Beijing’s “long arm” law enforcement, putting UK Beijing’s opponents at risk.

One resident who lives near the embassy told CNN that the plan should not be allowed to move on. “It’s too close to the Tower Bridge,” he said. A man who refused to give him his name. He also cited concerns about Hong Kong’s lost bisaults.

China has previously been accused of effectively using its post base as an overseas police station to monitor Chinese citizens overseas and force them to return home.

One such incident occurred in the UK in October 2022. Hong Kong democratic protesters were dragged into the grounds of the Chinese consulate in Manchester and beaten at an event filmed on camera.

China then removed six diplomats from Britain, where police wanted to question questions in connection with the alleged assault.

However, others with important interests in the Royal Mint area have dismissed the fear of spy and bounty as “Scarmongeling.”

Mark Rahiff, a local real estate developer who serves as managing director of Malaysia-based IJM’s UK subsidiary, supported the establishment of the embassy at a government hearing held in London in February.

“This autonomous borough, Tower Hamlet, is one of the poorest boroughs in the UK,” Rahiv, whose IJM project includes Royal Mint Garden’s Apartotel, told CNN. “It is a big investment for the People’s Republic of China to invest in this autonomous region. The site in particular has been empty since 2008.”

He continued. “It’s a listed site in the strategic part of London, next to London. We’ve seen it corrupt for decades.

However, Nygate rejects the notion that Chinese investment is advantageous The area says redevelopment will come at the expense of residents who currently live there.

“I’ve been opposed to the embassy from the start,” he said. “It’s ultimately about all fame, as they (the Chinese) want to outperform the US embassy.”

Trump nominates former Fox commentator Tammy Bruce for the role of the United Nations

President Donald Trump said he has appointed State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce as the next U.S. representative of the United Nations.

Bruce has been a State Department spokesman since Trump took office in January.

In an August 9 post on social media where Trump announced her appointment, the president said he had done a “great job” as a State Department spokesman. Bruce needs to be confirmed for Trump’s Republican-majority role by the Senate.

During the press conference, she defended the Trump administration’s foreign policy decisions, ranging from immigration crackdowns and visa revocations, including widely condemned armed aid operations on Palestinian territory, to the US response to the Russian war in Ukraine and Israel’s war in Gaza.

Bruce was previously a political contributor and commentator for Fox News for over 20 years.

She has also written books such as Fear itself: Revealing the Agenda that Kills the Left Heart,” which criticised liberals and left-leaning perspectives.

In a post after Trump’s announcement, Bruce thanked him, suggesting that the role was “a few weeks away.” Neither Trump nor Bruce mentions an accurate timeline in his online post.

“Now, I am congratulating you on my commitment to advancing America’s first leadership and values in the coming weeks to continue at this global stage of this new post,” Bruce wrote in X.

Trump chose former White House national security adviser Mike Waltz as his UN envoy. There is still a deadline for Waltz’s Senate confirmation for that role he becomes the Blues boss.

Waltz was Trump’s national security adviser until his exile on May 1 after being caught up in a March scandal involving signal chats among top Trump national security aides over Yemen’s military strikes. Trump then nominated Waltz as his UN ambassador.

Palio Lymphony Saga, one year later

0

play

A year later, the fate remains of Jordan and Chile’s bronze medal at the 2024 Parish Games.

Sunday marks the first anniversary of the controversial ruling that was taken over by the Sports Arbitration Court. The ruling sparked a backlash from Team USA on Swift, urging the International Federation of Gymnastics to amend its rules, and sparked a continuing legal battle at one of the highest levels of the international judicial system.

A multifaceted appeal to Chile’s Swiss federal court is pending, and it is unclear when the court, the Swiss supreme judicial authority, will make a decision.

But as Chile is waiting, here’s the latest information on the condition of the case, the key players involved, and what will happen next.

What started this all started?

Jordan Chile was forced into this prolonged fight for her medal through her own negligence.

Chile initially finished fifth in the Floor Exercise Final, with a score of 13.666 putting her behind the Romanians Anabors and Sabrina Maneka Boyno. (Barbosu and Maneca-Voineau were also identical in scores of 13.7, but Barbosu’s higher running score gave her a tiebreaker.) Chiles’s director Cecile Landi claimed that Chile was not given the perfect credit to tour Jete, Leap.

The review panel agreed, and the 0.100 added to her score led the Americans to the podium ahead of the Romanians.

The Romanians appealed to the sports arbitration court, and ultimately settled on their grounds, at the timing of the Chilean investigation. Cas dominated in their favour, and Chiles’ investigation was submitted four seconds after the 60-second deadline.

However, the CAS decision appears to have multiple flaws.

Firstly, Chile didn’t even know that she was the party of the case until within 24 hours of the hearing, as CAS had emailed the wrong address. It had little time to attach defenses to her to support her claims or find evidence – important details.

Chile also did not know that the head of the CAS panel had a potential conflict of interest as he worked for the Romanian government.

“Cas allegedly provided additional evidence on the timeliness of the investigation and opposed the (head of the CAS panel) prior to the hearing,” the Chilean lawyer said in a statement in March after submitting additional information to the CAS debate.

“However, these arguments do not take into account the fact that CAS itself failed to provide sufficient notice to Mr Chile…and, in addition, after Chile was finally notified, she only had a few hours to find expression to file her case.

Perhaps most importantly, the CAS decision was based on the false assumption that they would make an enquiry and record it. Sure enough, the video was discovered after the CAS ruling clearly showed Randy was conducting an investigation within the allotted time. In fact, three times.

Chile asked CAS to reconsider the decision after the video was found, but refused. She then called in the Swiss federal court, claiming that the CAS decision was “procedurally short.”

“Jordan will not give up efforts to make it clear to the world that the procedures to manage her lawsuit are one-sided and that the truth will fight to win,” said Maurice M. Sue, one of Chilean lawyers, in March.

Where is Jordan Chile’s appeal?

It has changed little since Chile filed her appeal in Switzerland’s federal court last September. At least publicly.

“It’s still playing overseas,” US gymnastics president Li Li Leung said earlier this week. “It took longer than expected for the Swiss court to issue a decision, but we are still waiting for that decision, just like everyone else is.”

The final public update came in March when Chiles’ attorneys released a copy of their submissions filed by Cas and The Romanians.

“The way to protect (their) interests on the February 19, 2025 comments requires, unfortunately, (Chile) to comment on this very briefly within the framework of a constitutionally guaranteed response,” the Chilean lawyer wrote in their brief.

In a simple way, Chilean lawyers said that both the CAS and the Romanians were trying to introduce outdated or unrelated defenses. This included CAS’s claim that everyone at the hearing agreed to use Omega’s report to resolve the issue of when the inquiry was submitted.

Randy and Chilean lawyers at the hearing I had it Childs’ lawyers challenged the report, writing. The fig also said that Omega did not record it when the verbal investigation was conducted.

“Even the CAS panel concluded that the Omega report as evidence was “not entirely sensitive to the information the panel was seeking.” The CAS panel felt compelled to rely on Omega’s reports.

Chilean lawyers also criticized the CAS and the Romanians’ claim that Chiles should somehow know about the CAS panel’s potential conflict of interest head.

“This… argument is not only late, it’s not only unruly, it’s simply unacceptable,” her lawyer wrote. “According to (CAS and Romanians), Olympic athletes must always perform a comprehensive investigation of the vested interests of all arbitrators on the CAS list – preventively, abstractly and without the presence of concrete conflict.”

What has Jordan Chile done since?

That’s what Jordan Chile is busy Since the Parisian Games. She was part of Simone Biles’ goat tour. She published her memoir I am that girl. She got her own Barbie. She walked the red carpet and was in the swimsuit version of sports illustrations. She appeared in Nike’s powerful Super Bowl ads. She traveled. She competed for UCLA.

However, the Saga surrounding her medal has become heavier, Chile admitted. In an Instagram post last week, she said:

“Every setback and every disappointment delved deeper into me and showed me what I was really making. “Even when something was taken from you – your truth and your worth… out of control.

“You reminded me that to everyone who held back this year when I sent my prayers, messages and love when I needed it most last year that I would never be on this journey alone.

“I’m still here. I’m still fighting. That girl is still.”

Is Jordan Chile still competing?

yes. Jordan Chile has taken the season from the elite competition and has not decided whether to continue the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. However, she says she is already planning to return to UCLA for her fourth graders.

“We’re ready, we’re ready to enter next season,” Chile told the Big Ten Network in April. “Yes, I’m coming back. I’m not leaving the Bruins, and I can’t be sure to wait to see what my fourth graders will do.

After a Goat tour of Biles last fall, the Chiles competed for UCLA in the spring. She led the Bruins to the Final Four and finished second in the NCAA Championships to Oklahoma. She also won her third individual NCAA title, the Uneven Bars title, and was fifth in the all-around.

Are Romanian gymnasts still competing?

Yes, both Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Vonea are still competing. Both are part of the Romanian team, which just missed a medal at the European Championships in May, finishing 0.497 with bronze medalist France.

Barbosu also won four individual medals in the Europeans. Floor exercise gold. Balance beam silver. All around and bronze in uneven bars.

Barbosu announced in January that she will be competing at Stanford starting this season.

How did the Governing Body respond?

The only good thing that comes out of this fiasco is that the International Federation of Gymnastics was forced to change the rules so that it doesn’t happen again.

According to rules issued in June, decisions regarding enquiries are final and cannot be challenged “including appeals to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) without jurisdiction over the issue.”

The new rules also state that an enquiry will be made electronically if electronic devices are not available through official enquiries forms. The referral officer must be aware of the time the deadline was submitted and ensure that it was within the deadline.

What could happen next?

If the Swiss federal court pays Chile’s endorsement, the case will be sent back to the Court of Arbitration of Sports. If it refuses her appeal, she will need to technically return her medal. But do your best with that.

Here’s why the cannabis market is collapsing

0

play

These days, everything seems to be more expensive.

The price of a 1 ounce of cannabis in Massachusetts plummeted from $394 in 2020 to $145 in 2024, according to an analysis by the Industry Publishing Cannabis Business Times. Michigan ounces weed cost between $419 and $84 in 2024. The main price fell from $449 to $206.

Weed prices are falling when shoppers expect to pay more for almost everything else. Consumer prices are on average 24% higher than they were launched in 2020, Bankrate reports.

“I call it a breakdown,” said Ross Gordon, a policy analyst at the Origins Council, a group representing small cannabis farmers in California.

In California, wholesale cannabis once costing more than $1,000 per pound, Gordon said. “And now we’re at $250 per pound, which certainly is below the production costs of most smallholder farmers.”

Until recently, recreational cannabis clinics were almost free to charge what they wanted. There were few pharmacies. Supply was limited. Many weed retailers were mostly rolling on dough, as sales were mostly made in cash.

However, over the past few years, the American weed economy has collapsed. The market is full of overlapping clinics and excess weeds. Supply is far beyond demand.

“We’ve had a lot of fun,” said Bo Whitney, a cannabis economist in Portland, Oregon. “But it’s great for consumers because they get cheap weeds.”

Whitney estimates that 27% of the cannabis business will be profitable in 2025, counting retailers, distributors and growers. Some operators are broken. And about a third of the cannabis market is “just losing money,” he said. “We’re losing their home.”

Michigan’s Doubtful Honor: Cheapest Weed

Michigan may now have the cheapest legal weed in the country to the potential for frustration of producers and sellers and the joy of buyers.

One-eighth of recreational cannabis, a standard unit of sale that costs $60 or $70 at a Michigan pharmacy, is the unit of sale. Michigan cannabis lobbyist Joe Neller said prices are now in the “$10 range.”

Recreational cannabis sales began in Michigan in 2019. At the time, he said ounces of cannabis at Michigan clinics cost over $200, reflecting the street prices of illegal weeds at the time.

Today, ounces cost around $60.

Price crashed for a number of reasons. First, there is a significant reduction in the risk of growing, shipping and selling marijuana. Simply put, legal market growers and sellers no longer endanger prison time.

However, these days, the main problem is oversupply. Cannabis growers and sellers are poured into markets in Michigan, Massachusetts and other newly legitimate weed states.

“We have retailers who are literally competing with each other on the same street,” Neller said.

In Massachusetts, the “fight to the bottom” of cannabis

In Massachusetts, Ryan Dominguez, executive director of the Massachusetts Cannabis Coalition, said:

As a result, “were at the bottom of this kind of battle in terms of price,” he said.

A pre-rolled joint that sold for $14 to $16 at a Massachusetts clinic a few years ago, Dominguez said. Today, the average price ranges from $6 to $8.

About 20 Massachusetts cannabis businesses closed in 2025, Dominguez said. It was closed twice in 2024.

California was the first state to legalize marijuana for medical use in 1996. To date, 42 states and the District of Columbia have legalized weeds for medical use, according to the trade magazine Mjbizdaily. 24 states and DC approved recreational or adult cannabis.

Prices fell faster in states that previously legalized recreational cannabis, including Colorado (2012) and Oregon (2014).

Weed prices are still falling in Colorado and Oregon. But they generally drop faster in states that have recently legalized weeds.

Who is blaming the collapse of cannabis?

Lobbyists and industry leaders say that part of the responsibility lies with state regulators. State regulators say they are reluctant to limit the number of producers and sellers who can enter the legal cannabis market.

“There weren’t many models of how to bring illegal markets to the light,” said Cannabis economist Whitney. With an unlimited license, he states: “We’re going straight into these scenarios where supply and demand are upside down. So there’s too much supply. So the price is going to fall.”

Industry advocates say the state should consider curbing new cannabis licenses. “And we combine that with economic analysis of the market,” Dominguez said it would need to see how many producers and dispensers the state can support.

Nationally, the cannabis market can support around £50 million in cannabis sales per year, Whitney said. However, growers have grown more than twice that.

“We have two and a half hours of capacity that the entire market can cover,” he said. “That’s the price collapse.”

Cannabis customers may also bear some responsibility for price drops.

Consumers will pay more for microbrewery beers, ethically sourced chocolates, or Sonoma County wines. However, in many of the cannabis industry, Gordon, Neller and other industry advocates say the sensibility of “craft” is not actually known.

Can Chee-ch and Chong save the cannabis industry?

Cheech and Chong, Snoop Dogg and the late Jerry Garcia all turned their heads with celebrity cannabis brands.

But “After a while, people realize that it’s all the same product,” Neller said.

It appears that weed customers are not inclined to pay more for hemp harvested without pesticides, hand-cut, or grown in famous areas. Cannabis cannot be technically referred to as “organic.” Because it is a federal classification and weeds remain illegal under federal law.

“Not only is it at a higher price, but there is no separate lane for higher quality,” Gordon said.

California regulators have launched a cannabis “appeal” system similar to local labeling for fine wine. That’s probably the beginning.

“It’s coming before craft cannabis is evaluated for several reasons, Gordon said.

Texas Democrats are behind to fight the push of Republican constituency

0

In 2003, Rep. Richard Pena Raymond of Texas fought against Republican constituencies and even to the U.S. Supreme Court. Now he’s doing it again. But he stayed when his fellow Democrats fled the nation.

play

  • Texas Republicans want to push for a rare mid-term planning plan to redraw maps of Congressional districts.
  • This push will turn five districts into more Republican-friendly seats, giving the GOP an edge in next year’s midterm elections.
  • To stop the move, Democrats fled to Illinois and other states, preventing Congress from having enough lawmakers to do business.
  • But a few Democrats are behind in fighting the plans in Austin.

Austin – State Sen. Richard Pena Raymond, a South Texas Democrat, has spent the past week wandering around the halls near the Texas Capitol, hearing and trying to avoid a U.S. Supreme Court showdown.

On the floor of a nearby home, Republican lawmakers piloted to launch an unusual medieval rezoning effort. They were able to create a new map of the US home district, which could give the GOP five more seats, and help the parties maintain control of the narrowly divided rooms.

Most of Raymond’s Democratic colleagues left Texas in an attempt to destroy the quorum needed to pass the measure. But he stayed behind, cajoling, convincing, pressured, and begging on how to get out of the crisis.

For Raymond, it’s once again deja vu.

In 2003, when Texas Republican lawmakers once again tried to redraw districts other than norms of old processes following their respective new census., Raymond attended the Constituency Commission, becoming a passionate voice of the opposition. When the measure was passed, he was appointed plaintiff in a case that ended before the U.S. Supreme Court.

This time, he said the stakes were even higher.

“Two to 30 people were a big deal. We went through a lot,” Raymond, 64, told USA Today from his first floor office in Capitol. “We know that was making history, and what’s going on now will make history.”

Mid-term battle encourages a showdown in Texas

The current showdown began when President Donald Trump and White House officials urged Texas Republican leaders to redraw the voting map to add five new Republican-friendly seats to the U.S. House. Democrats traveled to Illinois Even in New York and Massachusetts To prevent Republicans from reaching the quorum of the 150-person Congress needed to do business.

If a Texas Republican succeeds in adding five GOP seats to his US home, a Trump-friendly room could allow the president to continue one of the most aggressive and destructive agendas in modern presidential history. A Democrat majority in January 2027 opens the door to Congressional investigation, Legislative Paralysis – Third Perforations each.

Gov. Governor Greg Abbott has threatened to arrest absent lawmakers, and the U.S. Department of Justice also said it would attempt to track AWOL representatives. And on August 8th, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called on the state Supreme Court to take office with 13 Democrats for their absence from the Capitol, claiming they abandoned their seats when they fled the state.

GOP’s Texas PowerPlay launched a rezoning arms race as Blue State leaders create democratically trended home seats to counter Texas, and lawmakers from other red states, including Indiana and Missouri, consider taking part in the fight. Vice President JD Vance met with Indiana lawmakers on August 7 and reportedly urged them to redraw the map, and Florida Republican leaders also said they would form a committee to redraw the district.

In 2003, Texas Republicans attempted to redraw the map three years after census data was released, urging state Democrats to retreat to the Holiday Inn in Oklahoma and retreat from Texas beyond the state line and out of reach of troopers who could force them.

Raymond joined a colleague in Oklahoma after fighting the bill on the committee. During committee hearings, he was a sometimes lonely Democrat, opposed Republican moves and burned eyewitnesses about the legality and fairness of gerrymandering maps for partisan interests. His goal was to get his comments and questions on the official records, as well as their replies.

“It’s really just going to pass them through the ringer and build a court record,” he recalled. “From start to finish, I was very involved in it.”

The lawmakers eventually approved the new map. However, a lawsuit was filed and the case was caught in the U.S. Supreme Court. The 5-4 decision supported Texas’ rezoning plan, but some ruled that it violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting Latino voters’ rights. The proposal to split Raymond’s hometown, Laredo, in half, has been removed.

“It was a 50-50 victory, but it was a victory,” he said.

“Try to talk to everyone.”

On August 8th, Raymond walked a short distance from his first floor office to his house room on the second floor. He wrapped around the desk, chatted with fellow Democrats and Republican lawmakers, tapping others on the back and joking with others.

He said there is a proverb that he is popular in the Spanish-speaking border city he came from. Speaking is understoodor “Talking to each other allows you to understand each other.”

“I’ve always tried my whole career and tried to talk to people. “That hasn’t changed.”

Raymond, a state legislator since 2001, is one of the most lifelong Democrats in Congress. Known as a moderate, he is a fan of a few miles from Laredo along the US-Mexican border and represents a highly Latin district with around 183,000 residents.

Last year, Trump managed nearly sweeps in Texas Border County, a traditional Democratic base, and acquired 14 of the 18 counties on the border, including Webb County, including Laredo.

Trump’s victory along the border was the biggest presidential candidate in 30 years. He surpassed George W. Bush of Texas when he acquired governor in 2004.

Changing loyalty at the border puts politically at risk that representatives from these districts, such as Illinois Gov. JB Pretzker, who essentially embraces the Texas Democrats, are in a political position too closely with people from the People’s Democratic Party, said American university politician Mark Jones.

Jones said five of the six Democrats who fell behind last week came from the southern Texas border district. Raymond, who is re-election next year, is likely to like to keep his distance, he said.

Jones said Texas Republicans appear to be focusing on not changing the map of their new district despite the efforts of Raymond and someone else.

“There’s a very unlikely idea that you can stay behind and map out so that it doesn’t affect democratic expression,” he said.

Raymond admitted that unlike Sissiphus, who rolls rocks over the hills of Tartarus in Greek mythology, he faces the challenges of Hercules. His deepest fear, he said, is that the matter will end before the Supreme Court again.

Still, he will continue to challenge. When it feels overwhelming, he said, he tries to remind the other members of his country and nation equally love – and is trying to make it better.

“We know that we don’t always agree with the way we get there, but we don’t doubt that,” Raymond said. “I always start from that common place.”

The session on August 8 was short: 8 minutes’ small gavel to small gavel. Recognizing that there is no quorum yet, House Speaker Dustin Burrows has postponed the missing members until Monday, August 11th.

After Burrows stared at the meeting, Raymond began talking to the other lawmakers.

North Korea defeats propaganda speakers from a tense border

0

AP

South Korean military said on Saturday that it had removed some of its speakers from the southern South Korean border. A few days after the unique frontline speakers used in north-south propaganda broadcasts were dismantled to help the South ease tensions.

South Korea’s co-star chief said he had not disclosed where North Korea is removing speakers, and it is not immediately clear whether North Korea will defeat everything.

In recent months, South Korean border residents complained that North Korean speakers have blown up stimulating sounds that include howling animals and pounding gongs in Tart’s response to South Korean propaganda broadcasts.

South Korea said North Korea stopped broadcasting in June after Seoul’s new liberal president, Lee Jae Myung, stopped broadcasting in the south with the government’s first concrete step to alleviate tensions among its war-splitting rivals. South Korean troops began removing speakers from the border area on Monday, but did not specify whether they could be relocated as soon as tensions ignite.

North Korea was extremely sensitive to external criticism of authoritarian leadership and third generation ruler Kim Jong-un, and did not immediately confirm that it was defeating speakers.

South Korea’s previous conservative government resumed daily speaker broadcasts in June last year. This was paused in retaliation for North Korea to fly balloons running garbage flying south.

The speakers blasted propaganda messages and K-pop songs. This is a playlist designed to hit the nerves in Pyongyang, and Kim is driving a fierce campaign to eliminate the influence of Korean pop culture and language in order to strengthen the family’s dynasty rule.

The Cold War-style psychological warfare campaign has further heightened tensions already inflamed by North Korea’s advance nuclear programme and South Korea’s efforts to expand joint military exercises with the United States and trilateral security cooperation with Japan.

Lee, who took office in June and then took office in early elections, hopes to improve his relationship with Pyongyang after he takes over as a cozy Yun Sook Yeol.

But Kim Yeo-Jung, an influential sister to the North Korean leader, rejected Lee’s government overture in late July, saying that the current government’s “blind trust” in its alliance with the US is no different from its conservative predecessor.

She later issued another statement dismissing President Donald Trump’s administration to resume diplomacy on North Korea’s denuclearization, suggesting that Pyongyang is focusing on expanding ties with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine – with little urgency when resuming talks with Seoul and Washington.

Tensions between South Korea could rise again later this month as South Korea and the US proceeded with its annual massive military exercises that begin on August 18th. North Korea labels allies’ joint drills as rehearsals for invasions, often as an excuse to dial up military demonstrations and weapons tests aimed at nuclear programs.

Mohamed Sarah: Liverpool star calls for UEFA’s statement regarding the murder of “Palestine Pele”

0

Football superstar Mohamed Sarah called for European football governing bodies on Saturday after Palestinian footballer Suleiman Al-Ouid was killed in Gaza.

Egyptian Liverpool, the most famous Arab player in the game, noted that the UEFA post did not mention the circumstances of Al-Ouid’s death.

According to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), Al Obaid, a member of the Palestinian national team during his play day, was killed by an Israeli strike targeting civilians awaiting aid in southern Gaza.

“Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the “Palestine Pere.” “The talent that gave countless children hope, even in the darkest times,” wrote UEFA in a post on X.

Sarah responded to the post on Saturday: “How did he die, where and why?” His remarks quickly gained traction online, with over 840,000 likes by Saturday night.

UEFA has not been made public any more. CNN contacted the Swiss-based agency for comment.

Later on Saturday, the PFA shared a statement in Arabic, saying it was sent by UEFA President Alexander Ceferin, expressing his sadness over Al Obeid’s death.

Al Obaid has shown that “desire, talent and pride can bloom despite suffering,” a statement attributed to Ceferin said.. “His talent and dedication in the game has given them to children, beyond their hopes, tomorrow.”

According to the PFA, Al Obaid was born in Gaza City and was 41 years old when he was killed. He had scored over 100 goals throughout his long career, it said.

A four-time Premier League top goals scorer, Sarah is one of the best footballers to oppose the war in Gaza. He has previously called for humanitarian assistance to “quickly” enclaves to help world leaders end the battle, and allow “genocides” to halt.

According to PFA, 325 members of soccer The community has been killed since the war began on October 7, 2023. This includes players, managers, referees, coaches and other staff.

The United Nations says more than 1,300 people have been killed by Israeli forces while they were seeking food since late May. Of these, more than 800 people have been killed near the GHF site, according to the United Nations.

Currently, 75% of all UN members recognize Palestinian sovereign states, with more countries including the UK, France and Canada recently unveiling plans to do the same. At the United Nations, Palestine is now a non-member observer state of the United Nations General Assembly, as the United States consistently blocks full UN membership.

However, as a soccer team, Palestine has been recognized since 1998 by the World Governing Body of Sports FIFA. They have played in the last three Asian Cup tournaments, but are not eligible for the World Cup yet.

London police arrest 466 people to support a banned Palestinian Action Group

London

Police arrested 466 people in central London on Saturday as they protested the UK government’s decision to ban Palestinian activist group Palestinian action under the Counter Terrorism Act.

“As of 9pm, 466 people were arrested for showing support for Palestinian actions,” Metropolitan Police wrote to X on Saturday.

Eight people have been arrested for other crimes. This includes five people in the assault on an officer, but police said none were seriously injured.

Palestine Action is a UK-based group that aims to disrupt the operations of arms manufacturers that supply the Israeli government.

Last month, British lawmakers voted to ban the group after two Palestinian activists broke into central England’s largest air force base in June and damaged two military aircraft.

The group’s prohibition is illegal under British law, and is either a member of Palestinian actions or invites support, making it equivalent to terrorist organizations such as Hamas, al-Qaeda and ISIS.

A large crowd appeared on Saturday afternoon at a demonstration organized by defending the ju apprentices in London’s Parliament Square. London metropolitan police had warned that they would arrest anyone who showed support for the banned group.

One of the 80-year-old protesters from Surrey, England, told CNN he wanted to remain anonymous and attended the protest to show that the government’s decision on Palestinian actions was “what a god.”

She said organizers aim to ensure at least 500 people are sitting peacefully at the sign. “I saw people being taken away by the police, but they weren’t enough police to arrest everything,” she added.

A demonstrator is sitting on the ground in handcuffs during a protest in London on Saturday.
People will be attending a rally held in London on Saturday to challenge the ban on British government activist group Palestinian Action.

Organizers of the demonstration said on social media that over 1,000 people attended the protest saying they were “supporting Palestinian Action” with signs that they read on social media as “I am against genocide and support Palestinian Action.”

Metropolitan police said about 500-600 people were in attendance when the demonstrations began. “Many were onlookers, the media, or people who didn’t have placards to support Palestinian actions,” police said in a previous statement.

“Anyone who came to Parliament Square today to hold a placard expressing support for Palestinian actions has been arrested or arrested,” Scotland Yard added.

Those arrested in the protests “are a condition that “points for prisoners in the Westminster area and those who can see details will be released on bail and not attend further protests in support of Palestinian actions,” police also said.

CNN teams on the ground witnessed a brawl between protesters and police as demonstrators were arrested and taken away to support Palestinian actions. Onlookers heard police officers scream “I will shame you” as they removed peaceful protesters from the area.

British Secretary of Home Affairs Yvette Cooper thanked the police saying that “they are dealing with a very small number of people whose actions have led to criminality.”

“The right to protest is something we strongly protect, but this is very different from displaying support for this particular narrow, prohibited organization,” she said.

Amnesty International UK has condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters as “a violation of the UK’s international obligation to protect the right to freedom of expression and assembly.”

Last week, Palestinian Action co-founder Huda Ammori won a bid to challenge the ban, and a judge in the London High Court granted permission to seek judicial review.

CNN’s Jonny Hallam and Billy Stockwell contributed the report.

How to play Powerball

To play Powerball you will need to buy a ticket for $2. This can be done in a variety of places, including local convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores. In some states, Powerball tickets can be purchased online.

Once you have your ticket, you will need to select six numbers. Five of these are white balls with numbers 1 to 69. Red Powerball ranges from 1 to 26. People can also add “Power Play” for $1.

The “Power Play” multiplier can be multiplied by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x on the prize.

If you feel unlucky or want your computer to do your job, the “quick pick” option is available. Here, the computer-generated numbers are printed on the Powerball ticket. To win a jackpot, players must match all five white balls with any order and Red Powerball.

The Powerball painting takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday nights. If no one wins the jackpot, the prize money will continue to be engraved.

What is the best place to watch a movie with a comedy legend? Local streaming service.

A few weeks after Adam Sandler tore the links with the sequel to Netflix’s “Happy Gilmore,” he arrived at Eddie Murphy’s latest Amazon and teamed up with another “SNL” alumnus Pete Davidson. But whether you’re funny or scary, services like HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu, and more offer movies on your favorite devices. Check out the California retrofest with Pedro Pascal and Tom Hanks, the odd Stephen King story with Double the Theo James, and the new take on sci-fi classics with ice cubes.

Here are 10 new and well-known movies you can stream now:

“Borderline”

In this dark comedy set in the 1990s, the pop star (Samara Weaving) recently returns to her mansion when a runaway mental patient (Rainicholson) and a superfan breaks into the house in hoping to marry her loved one. Attractively indifferent, Nicholson is likable enough to take a bit of root for his antagonist.

“Crown of the Cornfield”

This clever, comedy novel reinvention focuses on a teenage girl (Katie Douglas) who travels to a small Missouri farm town. This place has a dark past, not only due to the burning out of local corn syrup factory, but also because of the violent clown named Friend who creeps up young people. Perfect for horror demons who want more plots in Gore.

“Final Destination Bloodline”

The 2000s horror franchise has returned after a long break. Kaitlyn Santa Juana plays a college student who knows her grandmother had deceived her death decades ago, and now she is taking the whole family with her through various creative Gnarly’s Rube Goldberg-Eskek Kills.

“A strange story”

Pedro Pascal has appeared in about 57 films this year, but there’s nothing like this weird looking Throwback Action B-Movie. The “Fantastic Four” star plays the enforcer in a mission of revenge in a story intertwined with the Nazi-stop youngsters, rap battles, ninja hoop stars and crusty Tom Hanks set in Auckland in the 1980s.

“rock”

Usually, Bill Skarsgard is the man who creeps up people. (Pennywise or Nosferatu, no one?) But he is the recipient of this thriller. Skarsgård plays a young, petty thief jacking a car. However, this souped vehicle is actually a trap, and its mysterious owner (Anthony Hopkins) aims to teach him a lesson.

“monkey”

Based on Stephen King’s short story, Osgood Perkins’ gory and a glorious, ridiculous horror comedy unleash Theo James as an estranged twin who is trying to remove the cursed monkey toy, a portent of death. It is a highly demented, interesting and insightful story with mortality and blood bucket themes.

“My Oxford Year”

“Pickup”

The constant buddy joke between Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson is a wonder to allow this robber flick to be monitored. “World War”

Those who stir bad movies for fun, please! Ice Cube plays a domestic terrorist dealing with alien invasions in this “screen life” thriller (app, text, email, video chat) that remakes the classic sci-fi Tale of HG Wells. Like the fate of the world that lies in buying Amazon online, it immerses you in the cheesy, ridiculousness of product placement.

“evil”

If you haven’t seen the hit musical and the prequels of The Wizard of Oz in theaters, on demand, or in Peacock, it may be time to check out on Amazon.
