Bed Bath & Beyond Completes Kirkland Home Brand Purchase

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has announced that it has completed a transaction that accelerates the creation of new locations.

In a news release on September 15, the company said it has completed $10 million purchases of its Kirkland home name and other brand assets from Brand House Collective.

“This move will accelerate the company’s national store conversion strategy and convert its Kirkland home locations into bed baths and Beyond stores,” Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. said in a statement, and the company will expand its Kirkland homes to wholesale markets, reviving brand seasonal home decor and independent retailers, and expanding its new registrations.

The company did not specify which Kirkland home locations would be converted to bed baths and beyond stores. Requests for these locations from USA Today did not receive an immediate response.

“The excitement around the Bed Bath & Bead brand was undeniable in the first of many store conversions,” said Marcus Lemonis, executive chairman of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. in the release.

According to the release, Kirkland homes will also expand to the wholesale market.

Bed Bath & Beyond Comeback to California

Bed Bath & Beyond is about to make a comeback after filing for bankruptcy in 2023 and closing all of its stores. It reopened on August 8th, past its first bed bath and home near Nashville.

Lemonis said in August that the company would not open a brick and mortar store in California. Lemonis said the state, which has more than 39 million people, will only be provided through delivery.

“Like most Americans, after all the stores went bankrupt and closure, we thought that beds, barths and beyond were no longer present,” a press conference for California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in response to X’s announcement.

Lemonis responded to a post from Newsom’s Personal X account and proposed business reforms in California.

“We target opening 300 small to medium-sized neighborhood stores from Kirkland investments (sic),” writes Lemonsis. “You’re a smart guy and I know that the following posts are out of frustration.”

Tropical Storm Mario reforms as new systems could form in the Atlantic

The National Hurricane Centre said a wide low-pressure area midway through the Atlantic, halfway between the Upwindwind Islands and the West African coast, is likely to result in tropical depression or tropical storms before September 21.

Meanwhile, Mario, a reborn tropical storm, was able to help bring rain to Southern California.

The Atlantic storm will end the silent day-to-day thing, despite being a typical peak of hurricane season.

The Atlantic System is 50% likely to develop tropical depression over 48 hours and 90% likely to develop tropical depression or storms over seven days, the Hurricane Center said in 2pm EDT on September 15th. The system travels 10-15 mph through the west-northwest of the Atlantic Ocean.

In Southern California, Mario, a tropical storm that re-emerged on September 14, warns that it could interact with another low-pressure region to bring about preventive fluids that could cause flash floods later in the week.

Where is Tropical Storm Mario?

Mario was originally formed on September 12th, but by the next day, Hurricane Center reported that Mario was no longer a tropical storm. By the afternoon of September 14th, the storm had revived from Mexico.

On Monday morning, September 15th, Mario maintained winds of 60 mph, centering around 165 mph west northwest of Socolo Island and 290 mph southwest at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Mario is expected to be repaid to tropical depression by Wednesday, September 17th.

The San Diego Weather Service expects Mario moisture to increase the chances of showers and thunderstorms in most parts of the San Diego area later in the week. The biggest chance of rain lies in the mountains and deserts. In the west of the mountains and deserts, weather services said the biggest chance of rain was on September 18th and 19th.

Elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean, the Hurricane Center looks at another low-pressure area off the coast of southwestern Mexico. It creates storms and environmental conditions and has the potential to develop 70% over seven days, the Centre said on September 14th. The next name for the Pacific Violence Rotation is Nalda.

Track when a storm forms

The predicted track map below shows the most likely paths in the center of the storm. It does not show the full width or its impact. The center of the storm can move outside the cone up to 33% of the time.

In Trump’s loss, the appeals court allows Lisa Cook to stay with the Fed for now

0

play

WASHINGTON – A September 15 court of appeals said Lisa Cook could remain on the Federal Reserve for now as President Donald Trump fights unprecedented attempts to remove her from the central bank.

The decision from the US Court of Appeals, which the administration expects to appeal to the Supreme Court, came on the eve of the policy meeting on September 16-17, where the Fed is expected to cut interest rates.

Cook’s lawyers had argued that taking Trump away from the board would disrupt the meeting and take the market.

The Justice Department said the court had no say in the president’s decision.

The Supreme Court refused to prevent Trump from firing the heads of other so-called independent agencies. However, the court appeared to draw a line on the seven-member Federal Reserve Committee. The court said “monetary policy is not independent of the president” and that it is “uniquely structured” in Congress.

Trump allegedly fired the chef in August, where he allegedly made false statements about his mortgage application before beginning his 14-year term in 2023.

Cook has not been charged with a crime and has not had the opportunity to formally respond to Trump’s allegations that she declared multiple homes as “major residences” in order to earn more favorable interest rates for her second home.

The documents reviewed by Reuters are contrary to other documents cited by Cook, declaring the second property as a “vacation home,” and Cook’s critics.

Since Congress established the board in 1913, the president has never tried to fire the Fed governor.

The law allows Fed members to be removed “for the cause,” but does not state anything that covers or designates procedures for proof of fraud.

Cook argues Trump’s allegations are an excuse to fire her for her financial policy stance.

The Fed sets interest rates that help you determine how fast or slow the economy will be. Trump has made Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to drive growth in order to lower interest rates.

However, Congress established a Federal Reserve Committee of seven members to make economic decisions independent of political pressure.

Two of the three appeals court judges — both appointed by President Joe Biden — said they didn’t object to Cook’s failure to tell Cook why she was fired, and they couldn’t give her a chance to make a meaningful response.

So, and for many ways, the case is unlike the removal of Trump from other independent institutional members, Cook should remain at work for now, wrote Judge Brad Garcia in a consent opinion joined by Justice Michelle Childs.

Trump-appointed Judge Gregory Cassas said the president should be allowed to remove the cook.

Katsas writes that Cook’s challenge turns on the meaning of the phrase “for a cause,” which should be interpreted widely.

“The president clearly summoned the causes related to Cook’s actions, abilities, fitness, or abilities,” he wrote.

Noah Weil, Hannah Einbinder, Sterling K. Brown from Emmy Party

LOS ANGELES – “Hacking” star Hanna Einbinder has two good reasons to drive away his heels at the 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

It was a long night for both legs after a surprise best supporting actress victory, an acceptance speech with the politically charged kicker who took over CBS censorship, an Emmy Show that lasted more than three hours, and a walk to the Los Angeles Convention Center party.

Einbinder is one of the first stars to etch her Emmy into the gala, leaving her silver heels wrapped around her right wrist. The comedian and actress spent most of her time at the sculpture station in deep conversation, holding the hand of “retirement” star Britt Lower.

With the Emmy sculpture finished, Einbender held the trophy in one hand, grabbed the Louis Vuitton gown on her shoulder and the hem of her heels with the other hand, wrestling with the party.

Tramell Tillman celebrates historic Emmy victory with his mother

“Retirement” star Tramell Tillman made history as the first black actor to win Emmy for the best supporting actor in the drama series, paying tribute to his mother Jae Tillman with his emotional acceptance speech.

Tillman’s mother was by his side, often holding an arm on his son’s back. After it was done, Tillman shed tears in his eyes at his first prize.

The studio was tied up for the night’s most Emmy win and kept the guest list tight. Among the VIPs were “White Lotus” stars Amy Lowood, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, Natasha Roswell, Walton Goggins and Lalisa Manovall.

Manobal was among the few who received costume changes after the ceremony, along with “The Penguin” winner Cristin Milioti. As the black-pink singer parted ways with the crowd with an etheric corset-inspired ivory mini dress, Milioti paired the dark sides of Sofia Falcone in a black high skirt and an oversized black leather jacket, paired with black dotted tights.

It wasn’t just the actress slash singer who appeared. In an unexpected move, Olivia Rodrigo stopped by with her best friend Iris Apatow (“Euphoria”) in favor of “White Lotus” star Sam Nibola, perhaps Apatow’s partner. Rodrigo with red lips sipped one of the offerings of the pearl box martini.

Meanwhile, Jean Smart not only celebrates the lead actress with her comedy victory, but also her late 74th birthday (September 13th). As they did in previous iterations, HBO rolled out the red carpet for her and co-star Megan Starter.

As the clock approached at 1am and the party began to end, guests headed towards the backup line of their driving SUV for the next night’s stop. Milioti joking with “Abbott Elementary School” star Chris Perfectie, heading for the next celebration.

FDA expands warnings about cookware that can leach lead into your food

0

play

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified cooking utensils that could leach lead into your food, said in an expanded warning updated September 12th.

The FDA released its initial notice on August 13 after testing pots made by Indian manufacturers and discovering that they were made from hindarium/hindrium or metal alloys made of indarium/indorium, aluminum, aluminum alloys and brass. These substances are common in certain imported cooking utensils and are not used in the United States, according to the FDA.

Since then, two more manufacturers/distributors and three more products have been added to the list.

There is no known lead exposure that is considered safe. Some have warned agencies, including young children, people of childbirth age and those who are breastfeeding.

Here’s what you need to know.

Which cooking utensils are included in the warning?

The FDA initially identified issues with products from one manufacturer, an Indian aluminum cookware called Saraswati Strips Pvt. Ltd. We sell products under the brand name Tiger White. Since then, two more manufacturers and/or distributors have been added to the list, including the Indian company Goyal Group Inc., and are being sold under the Silver Horse brand name, Grain Market LLC.

  • Tiger White Brand Kadais/Karahis, or deep pots used for boiling or deep frying. The FDA tested two specific items at Mannan supermarket in Jamaica, New York, and labeled them “Pure Aluminum Atnsils Tiger White RTM No: 2608606 An ISO 9001: 2015 Certified Co. Saraswati StripsPvt. Ltd. India.”
  • Silver Horse Brand “Aluminum Mathar Kadai 26” ID number 765542730845.
  • Silver hose brand “Aluminum Milk Pan 4”, ID number 765542728637.
  • JK Valalabhdas brand “Aluminum Kadai India Bazaar #3”, ID number 20000000777. The FDA tethered its products at India Cost A in Hoffman Estate, Illinois.

The FDA warns that these are not the only potentially affected products and that more can be added as the investigation continues.

What if I have an affected product?

Consumers should check and throw away the listed products and similar cooking utensils at home. You should not attempt to renovate or repair your cooking utensils.

If you have a potential lead exposure, we recommend contacting the FDA with your health care provider.

Retailers and distributors are responsible for ensuring the safety of the cookware they sell, the FDA said. This means that any product that may have an affected product in the market should use FDA’s Readreach Testing Protocol for cooking utensils or alternative testing methods. It is also encouraged to consult with the FDA about the updated safety and regulatory status of food-related products.

FDA questions related to this topic can be submitted to premarkt@fda.hhs.gov.

What is the risk of lead exposure?

The FDA does not permit the use of lead in food-related products, including cooking utensils and other food-contacting surfaces.

Lead is toxic to humans and can be ingested when a product like a cookware leaches into the items that come into contact with it. Even low levels of exposure are associated with serious health issues, including fatigue, headache, stomach pain, vomiting and neurological changes, according to the FDA.

Exposure is particularly dangerous to fetal and child development and can lead to difficulties in learning, low IQ and behavioral changes. Even if you do not show obvious symptoms, babies and children can be permanently affected by increased levels of lead in the blood, especially due to their small size and metabolism.

Trump orders a second strike on suspicion of a drug trafficker in Venezuela

Trump said he ordered a strike and the US troops were not harmed. Targeted “transports illegal drugs,” he said.

play

President Donald Trump has said he has taken his second strike on what the US military described as a “violent drug trafficking cartel” from Venezuela, killing three people in international waters in an ongoing campaign that raised bipartisan concerns about the due process.

Trump said he ordered a strike and the US troops were not harmed. The targeted thing was “illegal drug transport,” Trump said on September 15 in a social media post.

Republican and Democrats questioned the tactics after previous strikes over the drug ship allegations.

“What a sleazy and thoughtless feeling to praise someone for killing without trial,” Sen. Rand Paul wrote online after Vice President J.D. Vance promoted his previous strike.

On September 2, US military killed a suspected member of Tren da Aragua, a drug ship from Venezuela in the southern Caribbean. Democrats wrote a letter to the Trump administration on September 10th asking about the legal basis for the strike.

“We argue that Congress never declared war or approved the use of military force for similar operations in the future,” the letter reads. “Classifying a clear law enforcement mission as anti-terrorism does not grant legal authority to target and kill civilians.”

International law expert Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell of Notre Dame Law School described the latest strike as “illegal killings,” saying it “simply sends a message that compliance with the law is not important to the United States.”

At the White House event on September 15th, Trump said he “recorded evidence and evidence” when providing evidence that individuals targeted in the latest strike were “narcotelorists.”

Trump has issued a warning that there could be more strikes.

“If you’re transporting drugs that can kill Americans, we’re hunting you!” he wrote on social media.

The strike is a milestone in the efforts of the increasingly militarized US counter-drugs in the region. Trump secretly approved military force against drug cartels in early August.

Kash Patel faces Senate, home days after Charlie Kirk’s murder

0

play

The head of the FBI will testify to Congress on September 16th and 17th, a week after the assassination of Utah Charlie Kirk.

Kash Patel has faced criticism from the left for his lack of law enforcement experience since President Donald Trump appointed him to lead the FBI earlier this year. Currently, Patel is facing new criticism from conservative activists for handling the Kirk shooting investigation.

In criticism, On the night of Kirk’s murder, he continues to reserve dinner at a New York restaurant where he has not booked dinner, tweeting unverified information about the subject’s arrest, taking too long to release photos of the suspect, ensuring there is better security at the scene of the crime in Utah, and making an inappropriate public statement about the incident.

“It’s time for Republicans to assess whether Kash Patel is the right person to run the FBI,” conservative influencer Christopher Luffo wrote on social media on September 12th.

The administration says Patel was exemplary in his response.

“Coach Patel and his team worked day and night to find this murderer and lead him to justice,” White House communications director Stephen Chen told USA Today in a statement. “Anyone who doubts his resolve and dedication — especially when Charlie was his close friend, he simply uses this very sad moment in the nasty act of political gamemanship.”

Patel also said in a Fox News appearance on September 15 that he “bends all the resources the FBI had and immediately surges multiple aviation assets into the air as soon as the shooting occurred, “we were cycling on agents.”

Patel faces a Senate committee at 9am on September 16th and a House committee at 10am on September 17th. These are scheduled regularly at legislative hearings where Kirk’s assassination investigation is expected to take the central stage.

A victory was declared too early

Within hours of the September 10 shooting, law enforcement said twice that he had caught the shooter twice, but the suspect was not arrested almost two days later.

Utah Valley University reported that there was a suspect in custody 20 minutes after the shooting, but only retracted it within 30 minutes.

Patel wrote on social media that “the subject of a horrifying gunfire” was in custody, declaring his victory earlier in the hours later. “We would like to thank Utah local and state authorities for our partnership with the @FBI,” he later said that the subject was released and essentially retracted the statement.

Former FBI agents and homeland security authorities have widely criticized the choice.

“I’m sorry, but he has announced his arrests and by that, he feels the public is disarmed by coming from the top,” said Scott Duffy, retired superintendent and special agent for the FBI. “We can go out now. We can do this. We can do that.”

Duffey said the statement comes from the FBI directors is significantly heavily heavy, and it is rare for the FBI directors themselves to make an announcement. “It’s a failure and the FBI has to own it,” he said.

Former federal prosecutor Neema Ramani said he hopes Patel will face questions about the statement. “I understand that it’s a high-profile case and a very newsworthy case, but you shouldn’t be the director of the FBI, or say something true or unexamined,” Rahmani said.

Sen. Dick Durbin, a top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee overseeing the FBI, denounced Patel’s comments and questioned his ability to lead the country’s finest federal law enforcement agencies.

“It was amateur hour,” Durbin told HuffPost. “He was doing an ongoing commentary. Historically, the FBI will keep his mouth closed until he believes it’s the right time and the right message.”

“Can you say that a little better in the heat of the moment? Surely,” Patel told Fox News. “But do I regret putting it out? It’s definitely not.”

Meanwhile, several news outlets reported that Patel was posting his rolling update that night in Laos, a luxury and well-known New York restaurant.

Unsecured crime scene

Patel and the FBI are on fire because of how long it took them to release photos of the suspects, how they handled the crime scene, and the amount they were offering as rewards.

The FBI did not release photos of the suspect until 10am local time on September 11th, about 20 hours after filming. Patel said it took the FBI three days to release photos of the suspect after the Boston Marathon bombing.

The day after the fatal shooting, a USA Today reporter was able to roam the small, wooded area behind the building where the suspect was shot dead, and witnessed FBI agents gathering evidence from the crime scene. Only after several reporters observed the site and began taking photos could police officers arrive to tape from the area with crime scene tape.

Patel told Fox News that the gun used in the shooting was abandoned in an area with a forest where towels were wrapped.

In another incident, USA Today reporters were able to step into the Operations Center for an investigation without being challenged or asking for a background verification. The reporter observed the agent for over an hour before being asked to leave.

“You’re going to say that’s a problem,” Duffy said. “It means that you’ve just stepped into the doctor’s office looking at patients and ‘I’m just observing.’ No, what the hell do? ”

Duffy said there is no area where anyone can walk freely. He provided an example of how the team could place a single FBI agent at the entrance to ensure that no fraudulent visitors were in it.

Some people also criticize law enforcement agencies that have been offered for help. On September 11th, the FBI provided a $100,000 reward for information that led to the identification and arrest of Kirk’s murderer. Laura Rumer, a conservative activist who visited Trump in the White House before, criticized the amount for being too low.

“So the DOJ and the FBI are willing to provide $50 million for information about @Nicolasmaduro, but only $100,000 for information about who killed Charlie Kirk in American soil in a cold-blooded assassination!” Rumer wrote.

“This is honestly embarrassing for the FBI and our country,” she writes. “To see Charlie Kirk face to face is a slap.”

Share the details of the survey

Currently, Patel is being scrutinized for his public comments about the investigation, not just on Twitter, but also in his appearance on Fox News.

Patel publicly explained the evidence against the suspect, and announced that the suspect’s DNA had been confirmed in a towel wrapped around the gun.

Patel said the suspect’s family began subscribing to leftist ideals in recent years, and the suspect told someone via text message that he had the opportunity to take Kirk away and was trying to do it.

Former prosecutor Ramani said statements by Patel and other Justice Department officials could raise concerns about polluting the pool of juices in future trials. This type of concern has already arisen in the federal death penalty case against Luigi Mangione, accused of killing a health insurance executive on the streets of New York City. The judge in Mangion’s case ordered the prosecutors to stop talking publicly about it, fearing that their comments could endanger Mangione’s right to a fair trial.

“That’s a big deal when it comes to official statements,” Ramani said. “In this case, we can see potential judges who are telling judges to stop commenting on the case.”

However, the top officials supported Patel.

“We work with Director Patel every day and fully support his leadership at the FBI,” Attorney General Pam Bondy and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a joint statement. “The suspect is handcuffing today for the outstanding work of Director Patel and our law enforcement partner.”

Trump previously deployed the National Guard in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. amid strong criticism from Democrats on those areas and legal agendas, but in Memphis, Trump has targeted Republican-controlled states where the governor welcomed intervention.

Trump signed a memorandum of understanding to bring together members of his administration in the state’s leadership and his elliptical office on September 15th to create the Memphis Safe Task Force. The task force includes the National Guard, the FBI, Homeland Security and other federal forces, Trump said, modelling the DC operation.

“We’re going to make Memphis safe again,” Trump said.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee thanked Trump for committing federal resources to Memphis.

“We are very hopeful and excited about the prospect of moving the city forward,” Lee said, adding that he is “fed up with the crimes that hold a big Memphis city.”

Memphis, which has long struggled with crime, had the highest murder rates and other violent crimes in major cities in the country in 2024, according to a USA Today analysis of FBI data from 30 cities with over half a million residents. Memphis had 40.6 murders per 100,000 people, compared to a percentage of 25.5 per 100,000 in the country’s fifth-ranked capital.

The Democrat Mayor of Memphis criticized Trump’s plan to deploy security guards in his city when the president announced last week.

Trump spoke about deploying security guards in other major cities, including Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans.

“I think Chicago will be next,” he said on September 15th.

Watch the nation’s battle for social media apps

After nine months of waiting, Tiktok sales may be close by.

President Donald Trump suggests that on September 15, the US and China have reached an agreement to sell popular social media platforms to US buyers. The announcement came two days before the next ban deadline for social media platforms on September 17th.

“We’ve also reached a deal for a ‘specific’ company that our country’s youth wanted to save. They will be very happy! ” Trump wrote in a social media post.

Speaking to Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19, Trump said he would add that their relationship was “very strong.”

At a trade meeting between the US and Chinese officials in Madrid on September 15, US trade representative Jamieson Greer said the framework agreement would be to switch the app to US ownership, according to a Reuters report.

“We believe we have an agreement, which is subject to leadership approval,” Greer said according to Reuters.

Let’s take a look at how it turned out here as potential deals approach.

April 2024: Biden signs protecting Americans from foreign hostile application laws

After years of discourse on the prevalence of tiktok in the United States, then-President Joe Biden signed Americans in April 2024 protecting Americans from hostile foreign application laws.

For years, some government officials have expressed concern that Tiktok is a national security threat. Tiktok repeatedly denied these claims.

Biden’s federal law gave them consolidation until January 19, 2025, until they sold Tiktok or made the platform illegal for distribution in the US. Under the law, app stores and internet service providers have made Tiktok unavailable in the US if the platform was not on sale.

January 2025: Bidders lined up

Project Liberty, an initiative aimed at decentralizing the internet, created by billionaire and former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, announced its Tiktok bid on January 11th.

Project Liberty president Tomica Tillman said in a statement that the organization would not disclose the bid amount. However, the group previously said it had secured a $2 billion oral commitment from a group of investors ready to bid on Tiktok.

Kevin O’Leary, known as Mr. Wonderformy in the reality television series Shark Tank, and Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, joined McCourt in this effort.

In a cheeky X post on January 13th, YouTuber James “Jimmy” Donaldson, commonly known as Mrbeast, expressed interest in throwing a hat into a Tiktok ring. There was a lot of traffic on the post, and Donaldson told the fans to contact “so many billionaires” and see if they could actually help them move forward with the deal.

In late January, a consortium of investors led by Employer.com founder and CEO Jesse Tinsley announced that it had made an official all-cash offer to buy Tiktok’s US assets. Donaldson was part of the consortium, according to a news release from law firm Paul Hastings.

January 18, 2025: Tiktok is dark

On the evening of January 18th, Tiktok became dark for our users. This is because Baitedans did not sell the platform by the set deadline. This platform was not available for use in less than 24 hours via the mobile app or website.

January 19, 2025: Tiktok has been revised

The day before he took office, Trump told tech companies he would sign an executive order on the day of inauguration and temporarily suspend the ban. He promised that companies supporting Tiktok services across the United States would not face any impact by doing so.

Tiktok was restored in the US on January 19th, but users without apps have not yet returned to the app store and were unable to download it.

January 20, 2025: Trump signs first executive order to revive the platform

Two days after Tiktok was dark for our users, Trump signed an executive order to suspend enforcement of the 75-day ban (ends April 5th).

February 13, 2025: Tiktok reappears in the app store

Tiktok was restored to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on February 13, weeks after Trump told media companies that he could regain its platform without any consequences.

April 2, 2025: Amazon submits Tiktok bids

Amazon submitted a bid for its social media platform on April 2, according to Reuters and the New York Times.

April 4, 2025: Trump signs a second executive order to push back the ban deadline

On April 4, a day before the first executive order protecting Tiktok, Trump signed another executive order, pushing the deadline back until June 19th.

June 19, 2025: Trump signs a third executive order to delay the ban

Trump signed an executive order on June 19th, pushing back the ban on Tiktok for a third time. The new deadline was set for September 17th.

July 24, 2025: Tiktok will get dark if his contract is hit, Rutnik says

In a July 24 interview with CNBC, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that unless China approves a US draft transaction to sell Tiktok’s American assets, the app will be bleak after the September 17 deadline.

September 15: Trump hints at deals

In a true social post on September 15th, Trump suggested that a contract with China has been reached to get Tiktok to operate in the US.

When is the right time to buy a new car? Insights from industry experts

0

play

  • According to industry experts, car sales data tends to show an increase in December purchases.
  • The new model year release also offers the opportunity to win better deals on car purchases.

While the “December to Remember” spot from the Lexus may seem like nothing more than a subtle jab with your holiday gift plan not being measured, the push to buying a year-end car might actually make sense.

Sam Fioni knows a bit about cars and sales, and he says the end of the year is a reasonable time to consider buying a new car.

That may be the best time to do so.

Fiorani is the vice president of global vehicle forecasting for Auto Forecast Solutions, which provides insight into automotive trends and data, spending several years as a Ford, Lincoln and Mercury salesman, who humbly downplays his skills and downplays the wheels.

Fiorani said the last month of the year should be at the top of the car purchase calendar.

“December is the best time to buy a car,” says Fioni.

Automakers, dealers and salespeople want to report that they sold many vehicles during the calendar year. Your final chance to create these numbers is probably to offer some deals. It is reflected regularly in the data.

“We think sales in December are a little higher than the seasonal average,” says Fiorani.

However, he warns that car shoppers should avoid travelling to dealers on holidays.

What about when a new model arrives?

Traditionally, carmakers were equipped with new model releases from late September to early October, according to Fiorani.

Savvy car shoppers who save money rather than worrying about getting the latest model features may be aiming to buy during that period. The dealer will be trying to unload the previous model year, and it may open up some deals.

However, Fiorani says it’s important to recognize that individual carmakers are planning for their vehicles, not just following the calendar, but planning for the vehicle, as the timing of new model years has become more flexible.

However, the latest models may have new or updated features that may be decided by car shoppers.

If saving money is important, Allyson Harwood, senior editor at Creative Strategy at Kelley Blue Book and Autotrader, says that the model switch can usually open some doors in the fall.

“If you’re looking at a particular vehicle, you can take advantage of paying attention when a whole new generation comes out and getting the previous generation and saving money,” she says.

Is there anything else to consider?

Generally, an end-of-month or quarterly approach may always indicate a potential opportunity.

According to Fiorani, similar dynamics are at play, like the end of the year.

The end of the day may also play in favor of car shoppers, especially if it is the last day of the month or quarter. Salespeople who invest time with customers and know that people can walk away without buying can potentially add some motivation.

Let’s be the center of attention

Fiorani encourages shoppers to consider heading to the dealer when they’re not busy.

For example, Tuesday or Wednesday is a good day to do so in the middle of the week.

Being able to attract the full attention of salespeople will help ensure a better deal. This is a measure of supply and demand, and results better for shoppers when customer supply is not that high.

Ocean currents have failed for the first time in decades, raising concerns

0

With the failure of the seasonal upwelling system in the Bay of Panama, scientists wonder what will happen next.

play

Scientists have discovered something dramatically unusual in the ocean, which may be a warning sign of what’s going forward.

The warm air dances in the cold air. Cold water chases after warm water. It’s all part of the predictable and stable dance of flows and climate patterns that occur naturally across the globe. Until it isn’t.

For the first time since records began 40 years ago, the cold, nutritious waters of Panama Bay have not been able to emerge this year. Scientists don’t know if it’s fluke or a new normal.

Specifically, the seasonal upwelling system of Panama Bay has consistently provided cool, nutrient-rich waters through north trade winds for over 40 years from January to April. But this is not this year.

“We know if this is a real example of a climate change point — if it continues to gush out in future years,” said Tim Renton of the University of Exeter in the UK.

The findings were reported last week in the National Academy of Sciences’ peer-reviewed journal Proceedings.

What is a “trend point”?

Scientists have long feared that if severe climate change continues for humans, some of the key features of the Earth’s climate could be dramatically cancelled. This is the premise behind the science fiction film “Tomorrow’s Day.” This is loosely based on real concern that large-scale ocean currents could collapse relatively rapidly in the warming world.

Researchers have documented similar turning points in climate change. Panama Bay is not one of those tipping points, but it raises concerns about the reefs that are part of the conversation.

“Whether it’s a turning point or not, another ongoing tipping point: the reef loss associated with extreme warmth in tropical sea surface temperatures is bad news as the cooling needed this year hasn’t happened,” Renton said.

“This change could also cause a turning point in open ocean ecosystems and associated fisheries as major production will be much lower this year.”

What is upwelling?

Northern trade winds create upwelling events in the seawaters of Panama Bay, according to the Smithsonian Institute, which led the research during the dry season of Central America (typically between December and April).

Upwelling is a process that allows cold, nutrient-rich water to rise from the depths of the ocean to the surface. This dynamic helps support highly productive fishing and protects coral reefs from heat stress. Thanks to this movement of water, the oceans along Panama’s Pacific beaches remain cool during the “summer” holiday season.

However, researchers recently documented that this important oceanographic process did not occur for the first time in 2025. As a result, the typical drop in temperature and surge in productivity during this period decreased.

Further research is needed

What causes this suppression of upwelling? “The main suspect is wind reduction,” said Aaron O’Dare, the project’s Smithsonian’s lead scientist. “Rictions usually occur every year when trade winds blow the isthmus. It makes sense because it didn’t happen as often as it was in the normal years.”

“The more important question is why the wind wasn’t blowing. We don’t know why we’re deciphering this now or if it takes a little longer,” he told USA Today.

It is not clear whether human-induced climate change was involved in suppressing upwelling this year.

Anyway, the study reveals that climate disruptions can quickly change the basic marine processes that have maintained coastal fishing communities for thousands of years, according to the Smithsonian facility. Nevertheless, further research is needed to determine more accurate causes and potential consequences for the fisheries.

What’s next?

According to O’Dea, “We monitor it daily through a variety of means, including satellites and direct measurements. We will also be sampling the groundwater area early next year to see if the same thing happens.”

“To better understand what happened and why it happened and to predict whether it would happen again, we gathered a team of collaborators from the Smithsonian and Max Planck Institute to analyze atmospheric and ocean data more closely and apply a high-resolution modeling approach for future predictions.”

“One of my hopes for this paper was that it directed this event and interest in such an event in tropical waters that are always assumed to be reliable, but in fact it may not be that reliable. We now have that interest and more challenging work sift through the data and get a sense of the details,” O’Dea told USA Today.

“Consumers may use the consumer’s Genai engine to ask questions, but choices that require trust and belief, where to travel with family, which financial steps to take, whether to buy the product – USA Today is where they turn,” added Singolda.

Trump plans to crack down on a leftist group after Charlie Kirk’s shooting

0

play

WASHINGTON – Angered after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Trump administration officials say they plan to use “all resources” available throughout the federal government to target left-wing organisations that are fostering political violence.

Vice-President JD Vance and Stephen Miller, deputy Chief of Staff of the White House, said on September 15 that they would discuss plans to “chase” left-wing non-governmental organisations or NGOs, support a “doxxing” campaign against conservatives, coordinate riots, publish speeches from political enemies, and promote messages intended to generate violence.

“We intend to guide all the rage through the organized campaign that led to this assassination that eradicated and dismantled these networks of terrorists,” Miller joined Vance in a livestream when the vice president hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show” and paid tribute to conservative activists.

Miller calls the political violence on the left a “spread domestic terrorist movement,” and the Trump administration uses “all the resources we have in the Justice Department, Homeland Security and this whole government” to “identify, destroy, dismantle and destroy” the network.

“It happens, and we do that in Charlie’s name,” Miller said.

Neither Vance nor Miller identified groups that could be prosecuted or faced with other actions from the administration.

Law enforcement investigating Kirk’s murder says the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has retained a “left ideology” and has become increasingly political in recent years. However, authorities have not said that Robinson is linked to any particular leftist organization.

“The crazy on the left is saying, ‘Yeah, Stephen Miller and J.D. Vance, they’re going to chase constitutionally protected freedom of speech,” Vance said. “No, no, no. We’re going to chase after NGO networks that promote, promote and engage in violence.”

“In our system, violence is fine, and we want to reduce the chances that it will happen,” Vance said.

Democrats accused Trump and his allies of splitting the country by ignoring violence against Kirk’s posthumous political rights. Instead of uniting the country, they say Trump has a politicized effort to combat political violence.

“The murder of Charlie Kirk has allowed Americans to unite and stand up against political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic extremists seem to be preparing a campaign to destroy opposition,” said Sen. Chris Murphy of D-Connecticut.

Miller said the last message that 31-year-old Kirk sent Miller was a call for an organized strategy to help Miller pursue “leftist organizations that promote violence in this country” before his death.

“I write them in my mind, and I do them,” Miller said.

Last week, President Donald Trump quickly condemned Kirk’s death of intense rhetoric from the “radical left,” calling him “the person responsible for the terrorism we see today in our country.”

In addition to Kirk’s fatal shooting, Trump and his allies have been involved in the horrors of the president’s own assassination last year, the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024, the shooting of Rep. Steve Scullyse in 2017, and the R-LA.

“We have to talk about this incredibly destructive move of leftist extremism that we’ve grown up over the last few years. I think it’s part of why Charlie was killed by an assassin bullet,” Vance said.

Trump, Vance and other administration members have made little mention of other examples of right-wing political violence, including the June assassination of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband.

Delta Flight will make an emergency landing in Miami after bird strike

play

Delta Air Lines’ plane heading from Miami International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing after striking a flock of birds over the weekend.

Delta said in a statement sent to USA Today to USA Today that the bird struck one of the two engines of the aircraft shortly after it left the airport at about 11:27am on Saturday, September 13th. The plane returned to Miami Airport shortly after takeoff.

The aircraft was evaluated and the flight was scheduled to land in Boston two hours late.

No injuries have been reported from the strike.

Delta said he apologised for the inconvenience the incident may have caused.

How common is bird strike?

Bird strikes are very common in aviation.

In 2024, 22,372 wildlife attacks were reported, up 14% compared to 2023.

Perhaps the most famous incident of bird strikes took place on January 15, 2009, when a 1549 US flight hit a flock of geese just after it took off from Lagardia Airport. The strike caused both engines to fail, prompting Captain Chesley to act quickly to land the plane on the Hudson River.

At the time, authorities considered it to be the most successful commercial water in history, as all 155 people on board survived.

Sullenberger has been praised worldwide following the incident.

The incident was often referred to as “The Hudson Miracle” and was the subject of a 2016 film starring Tom Hanks, known as “Sally.”

Ford Bronco Roadster Concept Channel Vintage 1966 Vibe

0

play

In August 1965, the world was introduced to what would become the iconic off-roader Ford Bronco. Originally, the Bronco was offered in three body styles. The U15 wagon was like the current version of the Bronco, with the U14 being a half-cab pickup and the U13 being a doorless, topless “Roadster.” Only the U15 format survived in the present day. All modern Broncos have a door (can be removed) as well as a cloth or panel roof. However, Ford appears to have a nuisance of retrieving the rarest of the original Bronco body style.

Naturally, Ford says he has no intention of building the Bronco Roadster concept. But we sincerely hope that we find a way around that obvious obstacle. That is to say, the concept finds there is no side impact protection of any kind, three-point seat belt (it has a lap belt), or rollover protection. Of course, there are no doors or roll bars. My head doesn’t rest in the seats at the front (and only). Minor details.

Although Ford has not designated the Bronco used as the base for this concept, a representative from Ford confirmed that it is a two-door example of the base model using the standard turbocharged 2.3-liter Eco Boost I-4 engine found on the base. Using that standard engine fits the “added by subtraction” philosophy used during builds. Even the direct injection, turbocharged and intercooled eco boost is more complicated than the original U13’s 2.8 liters of overhead valve inline 6.

Of course, the larger imports are, like the original Bronco Roadster, a shortage of the front doors of the Roadster. Other nods to safety and design standards of the 1960s include missing headrests, metal look silver trim on the grab handle, and a center console. The Bronco’s rear seats are completely removed, leaving something like pickup bed type area.

The spares and four mounted aluminum wheels are made of 152, known as “analog,” and take direct inspiration from 1966 steel wheels, but are finished in bright silver instead of the Wimbledon white worn by the factory’s original U13 Roadster (example of Ford on display nearby). The carpet has also been removed from the concept, revealing exposed steel floors, but painted in the same Wimbledon white as the rest of the body. This applies to the regular black dashboard and the rest of the center console, except for the black vinyl wrap at the top of the dashboard.

The lower body features deep burgundy matching the “Bronco 60” and “EST 1966” decals. Ford will also replace the Bronco’s regular swing gate with a full-fledged swingdown tailgate. It is embedded deep in the center due to the rise “Ford” logo on the Classic Script. An interesting nod to the 1966 model is the rotating license plate holder. The plate was not attached to the bumper, so this will make it look swinging when the tailgate goes down. Finally, the front and rear bumpers are designed to mimic the original, simple steel design of the 1966 Roadster, but have some simple curves and angles to match the 2025 Roadster concept body.

While the 2025 Ford Bronco Roadster concept will never come to life, you won’t be surprised to see some elements incorporated into future models and Ford performance accessories. (For example, spare tire carriers and rear seat removal kits.) It says that there are elements that are already inspired by the 1966 model year from the 2025 Ford Bronco 60th Anniversary Package, but you won’t get the option of real tailgates, steel-like bumpers, analog wheels and bare flooring.

Donald Trump attacks NFL kickoff rules, “Sissy Football”

0

play

The kickoff of the new look of the NFL, which began in 2024, can be measured primarily as a success. Return rates have risen significantly and injuries have also decreased, but added excitement to the play, which has become largely routine and insignificant.

President Donald Trump is not a fan of change yet.

The US President took to Truth Social, a social networking site he launched in 2022, a year and two weeks after the new kickoff made his NFL debut.

“The NFL needs to remove that ridiculous new kickoff rule,” he wrote Monday morning. “How can you make such a big, amazing change so easily and quickly. It’s at least as dangerous as a ‘regular’ kickoff and looks like hell. The ball is moving.

“‘Cissy’ football is bad for America and bad for the NFL! I came up with these ridiculous ideas because I want to “roll back” the golf ball (almost!), so fortunately, college football remains the same, and hopefully forever!!”

What are the new kickoff rules?

The NFL made major kickoff rule changes ahead of the 2024 season, with 29 of the 32 NFL owners voting to implement a “dynamic kickoff.”

The change in the rules will feature new alignment guidelines for kick and return teams, creating a “landing zone” where the kicker aims between the end zone and the opposite 20-yard line, moving where the ball is discovered after a touchback from the 25-yard line to the 30-yard line.

The players who are not kickers or two returners line up 5-10 yards apart between the 30- and 40-yard lines of the return team.

A kicked ball that does not end in the landing zone is treated as a kickoff of a bouncing penalty, and the return team begins its subsequent ownership on its own.

The league’s goal was to increase the rate of return kickoffs, falling to a record low of 21.8% in 2023, reducing the rate of injury in plays.

In 2024, teams and players returned kickoffs with a 32.8% clip, up 11 points from 2023.

During the most recent offseason, owners of NFL teams have made new kickoff rules permanently with additional adjustments. After the touchback, the ball is found at the 35-yard line, further discouraging the ball from passing through the landing zone.

Throughout the first week of this season, kickoffs have returned to 75.6%, the highest rating in the week since 2010.
