Supreme Court hears about Hawaii’s challenges to gun laws

0

play

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court will decide whether the state can prohibit the public disclosure of handguns to private property that is publicly available without the express consent of the property owner.

The court agreed on October 3rd to hear the challenges of gun restrictions in Hawaii as the court continues to define what it recently created constitutional tests for gun control.

After the 2022 court, Hawaii and four other states led by California, New York, Maryland and New Jersey imposed new rules.

After such states lost much of their control over who could carry guns publicly, their focus has shifted to where in the public realm they could bring them.

Although property owners were able to limit weapons at all times, Hawaii law requires that handguns not be publicly disclosed on private property, like most businesses, unless the property owner gives explicit permission. Previously, states and other standard legal presumptions were that legal weapons could be brought into private property unless armed persons were explicitly told not to have them.

The three Hawaiian gun owners and the Hawaiian Firearms Union challenged the law, saying it contained the right to carry weapons in self-defense, which the Supreme Court affirmed in 2022.

The Trump administration supported an appeal by Hawaiian firearms supporters.

“People who carry firearms in self-defense cannot carry out errands without fear of criminal sanctions,” wrote Attorney General John Sauer, urging them to file a lawsuit in court.

Lower Courts are working on Supreme Court’s gun ruling

Lower courts still struggle to apply a recent series of Supreme Court decisions on guns.

In a 2022 decision, by breaking New York’s law requiring state residents to carry weapons outside their homes, the court said gun rules must be similar to historical regulations on weapons to pass constitutional convened.

The San Francisco-based 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said Hawaii rules passed the test.

However, the New York-based Second Circuit Court of Appeals said similar restrictions in New York were not the case.

Both states have banned firearms in “sensitive places.” Hawaii includes beaches, parks and restaurants and bars that serve alcohol. This is a challenged ban.

The incident is expected to be decided by July next year.

Trump administration freezes Chicago’s funds amid closure

The government continues to target federal funds in blue cities and states amid government shutdowns.

President Donald Trump’s Budget Director has announced that $2.1 billion in federal infrastructure in Chicago has been suspended as governments continue to target blue cities and state funds amidst shutdowns.

White House management and budget director Russell Vought said frozen dollars have been allocated to support improvements to the Chicago Transit Authority Railroad.

Vought previously announced that home states for the $18 billion infrastructure fund, New York and Democratic Congress leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer have been put on hold, cutting $8 billion for 16 Blue State energy projects.

Democrats complain about the funding cuts.

“We’ve been less than a day for this closure, and Trump & Vault is illegally punishing a Democratic-led nation,” Sen. D-Washington said on social media, dubbed “Mafioso’s Tactics.”

Trump spoke about cutting “Democrats” during the closure. “He’s met with him attacking to decide which of the many Democratic institutions is political fraud,” the president said on October 2nd.

The president rebutted with Chicago leaders amid the threat of deploying national security forces in the city.

The Department of Homeland Security recently said that the deployment of the National Guard “protects federal personnel, property and functions,” according to the pentagon.

“Decisions will be made according to an established process and announced at the right time,” said Sean Parnell, a Pentagon spokesperson.

How workers can manage through government shutdowns?

0

play

A government shutdown means that hundreds of thousands of non-essential federal workers are not reporting their jobs. Or receive a reward.

Their final paycheck is paid according to the usual payment schedule, but only for the hours they worked before they were bored. Once Congress passes funds to fulfill the agency’s regular business, workers should be able to return to work and receive payments as usual. But when that might be the case, everyone guesses.

That uncertainty comes when many Americans’ budgets may already be highlighted from years of growth, slower economics and perhaps more tariffs. So what should workers do in the meantime and what can they expect?

Below are some answers to frequently asked questions about what a determined worker can expect, according to the Human Resources Administration (OPM).

Can Furloughed workers claim unemployment insurance?

Yes, Furloughed workers can apply for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in most states to help close the gap until work resumes.

According to the OPM, requirements vary between countries, with some requiring a one-week waiting period before someone qualifies for payment. Check the Unemployment Benefits Finder’s Department of Labor website | careerOnestop on how to submit a UI in your state.

Essential full-time workers can face more difficult situations. They have to continue working without wages, and usually they are not eligible to collect unemployment benefits. They must wait for the government to resume and get paid to receive retroactive pay for their time.

How much is the weekly unemployment insurance benefits?

Benefits vary by state, but are usually based on a percentage of individual revenue over the last 52 weeks, according to the Department of Labor.

Most states pay benefits up to 26 weeks. Benefits are subject to federal income tax and must be reported on your federal income tax return. The state’s unemployment insurance department may choose to withhold tax.

Most states also tax UI benefits. San Francisco Certified Public Accountant Richard Pont said he exempts all unemployment benefits in six states (Alabama, California, Montana, New Jersey, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia), while Indiana and Wisconsin exempt partial exemptions.

Be careful when collecting unemployment insurance

Once the government reopens and returns to work, you will need to receive a retroactive salary for the shutdown period.

Because you cannot be paid twice at the same time, you must repay all unemployment compensation you receive to the state under that rule. You are responsible for contacting your state’s Department of Labor and making repayment arrangements with the appropriate unemployment office. You may need to pay the full repayment on a specific date or establish a payment plan with the state labor department.

If overpayment is not addressed, the state can gather through a variety of means, such as adorning future unemployment benefits, receiving future state or federal tax refunds, or making money from wages.

Will health insurance continue?

Yes, Workers will continue to be the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program, a program that includes health, vision, dental and other benefits. Coverage will continue as normal, even if the agency does not pay premiums on time due to the closure.

Premium subscribers’ share accumulates and is withheld from their pay when they resume payments.

However, if an employee purchases eligible healthcare items or services during Furlough, they cannot be refunded from the flexible spending account until the worker returns to payroll status and is able to make a payroll deduction.

Similarly, coverage from the federal long-term care insurance program will continue, but claims will not be refunded to the registrant until all previous premiums have been paid.

Can employees do other jobs during Farrow?

Since you are still considered a federal employee of Furlough, any job must meet the standards of federal ethical conduct and regulations.

Additionally, there may be specific laws to comply with certain laws prohibiting certain external activities, as well as agency-specific supplementary rules, so you should check them before doing another job.

The same applies to important workers who want to do paid work to help them through the period without pay or unemployment benefits.

What other financial support is available?

  • Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) loans are available along with regular fees and interest rates. TSP is a defined contract retirement savings and investment plan for federal government employees and military personnel. The latest information and rules can be found on the TSP website.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can provide confidential counseling and coaching with experienced, licensed counselors, including legal and financial consultations. Workers can find more information about EAPS on the OPM website.

How many workers are affected?

With none of the 12 spending bills approved, the closure is wider and more extensive than the partial shutdown that began in December 2018, when Congress enacted five of the 12 spending bills.

Instead, the shutdown rivals the 2.1 million non-fatal federal employees that were discarded in 2013, which roughly 850,000 were discarded.

How many prisons can Sean Combs go to?

Shawn “Diddy” Combs must soon face music in his federal sex crimes case.

The hip-hop mogul, convicted in July for working in prostitution, is expected to be sentenced to prison on Friday, October 3rd to be sentenced to prison.

Following a two-month trial in a Manhattan court that unearthed the rapper’s decades of abuse, 12 ju judges have guilty of retail prostitution charges, but have garnered assault and sex trafficking a 55-year-old. Combs maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the five counts brought against him.

The Combs case was particularly challenging, walking to a dark intersection of consent and enforcement, celebrities, complex workplace dynamics, and countless ways people deal with trauma. The trial was the most notable of the #MeToo era, following an explosive incident against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, R&B singer R. Kelly and A-list actors Kevin Spacey and Johnny Depp.

Here’s what you need to know about Combs’ potential sentence:

How much time can Diddy spend in prison?

The maximum sentence for transport to engage in prostitution is 10 years in prison, and Combs faces up to 20 years in two counts. If he was convicted of assault, Combs could have been given a life in prison.

Following a review of the guidelines for federal sentencing, prosecutors said at one point that Combs could face 63 months in prison, but the defense argued that the same guidelines instead proposed a two-year sentence.

As Combs’ sentencing approached, the rapper’s lawyer recommended that Subramanians pass 14 months of prison time. Meanwhile, the prosecutors are seeking at least 11 years’ sentence for at least comb.

Didi denied the conviction cover and refused a new trial prior to the sentence

Comb and his team were dealt a legal blow before the rapper’s sentencing hearing.

Combs’ attorneys had previously filed an motion to seek Subramanian to overturn a criminal conviction in transport engaged in prostitution charges or to allow him to try a new trial. According to court documents obtained by USA Today, the court rejected both claims in its opinion filed Tuesday, September 30th.

Subramanians refused to defence attempts to narrow down the definition of “prostitution” that combs was convicted of, and prosecutors refused their argument that they had not presented enough evidence to prove that Combs was specifically transporting people with the purpose of paying for sex.

The judge called out the prosecution’s evidence, including testimony that the escort “had been paid thousands of dollars… to have sex.”

Regarding Combs’ new trial request, his lawyers biased the jury against the music mogul, alleging the evidence presented in court about the remaining convicted charges. The Subramanian also rejected the argument, saying “Kone cannot carry his “heavy burden” of showing “spillover prejudice.”

Did Trump tell the president that the closure would fall? What we know

0

play

  • Old news clips show Donald Trump previously blamed the president on the government shutdown.
  • In 2011 and 2013, Trump said the president was responsible for bringing together political parties to avoid shutdowns.
  • Now, as president, Trump is denounced Democrats for the current government shutdown against fundraising disputes.

Old news clips have been circulated on social media where President Donald Trump says he should lie to the president because of the government’s shutdown.

The video, posted by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, in collaboration with other Senate Democrats, edited clips of Trump in 2011 and 2013, spoke about the closure, saying the president should be the leader of the negotiations. Snippets and quotes from these interviews are widely shared on social media.

Trump, who now hosts the closure of the fourth government as president, blames Democrats for not blocking demands for Medicaid and Obamacare funding to continue insurance coverage for millions of Americans.

“They’re shutting it down, we’re not shutting it down. We don’t want to shut it down,” Trump said on September 30.

Did Trump say the president should be blamed for the government shutdown?

In April 2011, leaders of both parties reached an agreement after weeks of hard negotiations, and ultimately avoided the government shutdown, as President Barack Obama repeated again. In an interview with Meredith Vieira about the NBC “Today” show, Trump spoke about a potential shutdown ahead of the agreement. A recording posted to Vimeo by Roll Call’s FactBase, Trump said: “In my opinion, I hear Democrats are being criticized. “If there’s a closure… I think it’s going to be a very negative mark for the US president. He’s the guy who has to bring people together.”

At the time, Trump was messing around with the president’s running and repeatedly questioning the validity of Obama’s citizenship. Obama was born in Hawaii and made him a US citizen.

When Obama was president, the shutdown eventually occurred. In 2013, the government was closed for 17 days.

Prior to the 2013 closure, Trump also spoke about how the closure is remembered in a phone interview with Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” according to Politifact.

“When they talk about government closures, they’re going to talk about the US president, who was then president,” Trump said. “They aren’t talking about who is the Senate head of the family and who is running things in Washington, so I think there’s really pressure on the president.”

Trump closures in 2025: Consider massive layoffs

Trump and other Republicans have tried to hold Democrats accountable for the shutdown. They claim that they want to illegally provide medical care to immigrants here (undocumented immigrants are primarily ineligible for federally funded coverage, like Medicaid). Democrats are trying to pin a shutdown in the Republic.

On the first day of the shutdown, Vice President JD Vance spoke and denounced the Democratic “Chuck Schumer Aock Wing” for the closure.

The White House also said the shutdown could lead to more layoffs rather than Farlow.

“I can’t believe the radical left Democrats have given me this unprecedented opportunity,” Trump said in an October 2 social media post.

“Many profits can get off the closure,” Trump told White House reporters hours before the deadline. “We can get rid of a lot of things we don’t want.”

White House spokesman Abigail Jackson called Schumer and USA Today’s questions about Trump’s old comments, “I am eager to be distracted from their decisions.”

“Democrats want free health care for illegal foreigners and they know that it hurts Americans, so they’re going to shut down the government. They just listen to their own statement,” Jackson said in an email.

Police gunshots are likely to hit victims in the attacks at the Manchester Synagogue

0

British police said one of two Jewish community members who were killed during the attack at Yom Kipper’s synagogue was killed, and one of the victims was believed to have been struck by police shooting as they tried to stop the attacker.

One of the deceased victims suffered a gunshot wound, a pathologist has tentatively decided, according to Manchester Police Chief Sir Stephen Watson. The suspect, Jihad Al Shami, had not carried a firearm, and the only shot fired was to deal with a law enforcement officer, Watson said.

“Therefore, when subjected to further forensic testing, this injury may have sadly been maintained as a tragic and unexpected consequence of the urgently necessary actions taken by my officers to end this malicious attack,” Watson said.

One of the injured victims being treated at the hospital also suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound, Watson said. Both victims with gunshot wounds were standing close behind the door of the synagogue as worshippers acted bravely to prevent attackers from gaining entry,” he said.

The October 2nd attack unfolded at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsole, North Manchester, around 9:30am. Police responded, fatally shot the attacker, and were later identified as Al Shami, a British citizen of Syrian descent. The attack was declared a terrorist attack by British authorities.

As of the second half of October 2nd, three people had been treated for their injuries. This said he suffered a stab wound and another person was hit by the car.

The UK’s terrorism policy firm said three other people — two men in their 30s and two men in their 60s — have been arrested on suspicion of the committee, preparation and inciting terrorist acts.

Police said the “suspicious devices” worn by the attacker are “deemed unfeasible.” Earlier in the day, police said the suspect was wearing a vest that looked like an explosive device and the bomb disposal unit was called.

Authorities said they are working to identify the dead victims and support their families.

If Donald Trump wins in court, he can control the FCC

The Trump administration has sought greater power than independent institutions. But if the president controls the FCC, will his speech be free?

play

When Donald Trump proposed revoking the government-issued broadcasting license for television stations that covered him negatively, he stepped on the line that many presidents dared not cross over before him.

He challenged the Federal Communications Commission-Federal Communications Commission work, which Congress founded 91 years ago to become independent from the influence of the president. The president has never fired a committee member, and many commissioners have defended open defenders of freedom of speech.

But if Trump has his way, he will have more power over the FCC in the near future. That’s because his administration is pushing for more control over independent institutions, and so far they’ve won.

If they succeed in court in the coming months, the administration will overturn the federal administrative state and create an independent body like the FCC, just like any other cabinet institution that has been ordered by the president.

On September 17, FCC chairman Brendan Kerr, who was closely tied to Trump, said the FCC had “a lot of work” if the company that aired late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel “does” Kimmel’s comments relating to conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s suspicious shooter.

“This is a very serious problem for Disney right now,” Kerr said, referring to ABC’s parent company that airs “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “We can do this in an easy or difficult way.” (Ker later said he never threatened anyone’s broadcast license, but Trump suggested punishing unfavourable broadcasters the next day..))

Disney temporarily suspended Kimmel’s show before reviving him, but people on the left and right worried about violating freedom of speech.

“It may feel good to threaten Jimmy Kimmel right now, but when it is used to silence all the conservatives in America, we regret it,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican.

“In real time, we see what happens when the wall of independence is demolished and the commissioners of agencies that are supposed to be independent under the law seem to be answering directly to the president,” says Michael Sozan, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank.

The FCC and the White House did not provide comment on the story, but Trump called Kerr “American Patriot” and said he opposed Cruz’s comments.

Unitary Executive

The Supreme Court heard in December that the Trump administration was trying to reverse precedents protecting many of these board members from presidential dismissals, and jurists say the writing has appeared on the wall for years for a majority preservation court with the Trump administration.

The Trump administration has laid the legal basis for administering dozens of independent bodies similar to the FCC by fired and being sued, and then as the only executive of the country, traversing his rights to court illegally as the country’s only executive, he sets the legal basis for administering dozens of independent bodies similar to the FCC.

At the root of all this is the unified theory of enforcement, which states that enforcement is solely in the president, and those who exercise it on his behalf should be fired by him. It often involves creating rules and policies on issues ranging from the safety of children’s toys to what Americans can see on television.

For example, the Securities and Exchange Commission, designed to protect investors and maintain financial markets, is one of two or more Doen institutions legally similar to the FCC. So are the National Credit Union administration and the Federal Election Commission, where Trump fired members of the Democratic Party in April.

“You can agree to the agency’s lawsuit, you can oppose the agency’s actions, but at the end of the day you know who should be responsible for the actions taken by the agency,” Zach Smith, a senior law fellow at the Conservative Heritage Foundation, explained the Trump administration’s position.

Smith said the president’s vision of power returns to the framer of the constitution, with all presidents saying, “If there are Republicans, if you are in office, if you are independent.”

Thomas Berry, director of the Libertarian Cato Institute’s Constitutional Research, says he supports the theory of unity enforcement and hopes that an independent body will look like a cabinet body that can implement the president’s agenda and fire its leaders by the president. The powers they currently have, such as when the Securities and Exchange Commission hears and decides appeals from the court, are similar to those of a judge.

“We’re not that much professional in the administrative sector where we have a lot of power,” said Berry, who generally agrees with a single theory of enforcement. “I think there is actually too much power in government agencies, and I think it’s a matter of all the power that it legally holds.

Mitchell Sorenberger, a professor of political science at the University of Michigan, said he wrote a book called “The Risk of a Uniform Government to the Constitutional Government.”

Sollenberger said that the country’s founders chose to have a single executive and considered having multiple executives before abandoning its plans, but said modern unified enforcement theory ignores checks and balances from legislative and judicial branches, as well as the mixed forces produced.

“You are not a stone that separates you from the end of dictatorship and fascist governments,” Sorenberger said.

Does a single executive affect the FCC?

Experts agree that Trump will gain more power over the FCC if the court gives him the authority to fire the commissioner running the agency. But that doesn’t mean they agree with Carr’s decision to threaten broadcasters over the late-night comedian’s comments.

Sozan said the extensive power of the FCC can be used to control much of what Americans see and hear. You can verify that the broadcaster is licensed to the broadcaster, approval of mergers and acquisitions between major media companies, interpretation of legal provisions affecting social media companies, and that the broadcaster operates in the public interest.

“The FCC is one of the institutions that the president can weaponize on its own,” he said. “The FCC, such as Chairman Kerr, can take great steps towards infringing one of our absolute most important rights and freedoms: freedom of speech.”

Berry said there are “many indications” that Kerr’s actions “were crossed boundaries into an unconstitutional First Amendment violation because they are forcing private companies to take action.” He said that strong judiciary needs to be a check of enforcement to handle the issue.

However, he warned that someone should sue the FCC, and it is not clear who has legal rights. He also questioned who had the will and who had the money to do it. “People often don’t want to get on the bad side of their administration,” he said.

Brent Skollup, a law fellow at the Cato Institute who once worked at the FCC, said presidents such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Richard Nixon were putting pressure on agents to do what they wanted. The revelation came out a few years after their president ended.

“I can’t remember what the president is doing publicly,” he said. “It happened personally. I don’t know which one is worse.”

What is the “go rate” for gifts and tips?

0

play

What insights do gifts, tips, and teeth give us?

Traditional indicators of the state of the economy may be those of monthly consumer price indexes, interest rates, gasoline prices, etc., but financial services companies have other suggestions. See how much people are spending on gifts, leave it as a hint, what the tooth fairy leaves under the pillow.

And according to a new study of the “rate of progress” of several items by Empower, Americans say inflation and tariffs look like gift prices, and consumer concerns are manifested as “gift fatigue” and “no gift” policies. Even habits and allowances also feel that they will bear the brunt of rising prices.

“Retirement fees track the costs that can be given,” Rebecca Likert, director of consumer insights, told USA Today. “I think there’s really a lot more about economics that we generally frame as etiquette… generosity can be an incredibly powerful economic indicator.”

How much should I give?

The key findings from Empower’s “Going Rate” survey are as follows:

  • How much should I give: Half of Americans don’t know what the “right” amount gives, despite 50% of them feeling pressured to spend a certain amount on a gift.
  • Gift Flow:75% of respondents said that the gifts are more expensive due to tariffs and inflation. Six in 10 say the gift is “out of hand,” with 48% experiencing “gift fatigue.”
  • Rates for gifts: Among the survey participants, the average “driving fee” for birthday presents is $56 for adults and $83 for children. $85 for wedding gifts. $64 for a holiday gift. Mother’s Day gifts cost $55, Father’s Day gifts cost $38, and teacher or coach gifts cost $15.
  • For kids: The average weekly allowance is $37 per child, while the tooth fairy leaves $14.87 per child.
  • How much do you tilt?: Respondents said they left a ride-sharing service of 16% for take-out dining, 11% for food delivery, 14% for beauty services and 10% for ride-sharing services.
  • Give a generation: More than half (55%) believe their generation spends more than others. 79% say cash and gift cards are more acceptable than they have in the past.
  • Wedding Etiquette: 49% said they should “pay for the plate” at their wedding.
  • Time is money:44% say they want to give a “gift of time” rather than money or material items. And their presence is a real gift.
  • Say no to a gift: One third or 33% of respondents say they have adopted a “no gift” policy this year, asking others not to spend any money at all.

Be more thoughtful and pull back holiday spending with small gifts

The Diaz family in Ridgewood, New Jersey has many people on their Christmas gift list.

Julia Diaz, 59, buys around 20 people, including five families, a large family and close friends.

Her daughter, Oriana Diaz, 32, has a gift list of about 30 people on her gift list, including her family, her boyfriend’s family, work mentors and friends.

As prices rise, they are cutting off holiday gifts this year. Julia is planning to spend half of her normal $50 per person.

“Everything is more expensive than last year,” she said.

Oriana plans to purchase smaller handmade gifts.

She considered asking her family and extended family to give “no gifts” this year, but the act of giving each other’s gifts is extremely important to the family.

“We thought about having a conversation that scales it,” Oriana said. Last year she bought a handmade or craftsman gift. She gave colleagues from several pieces fresh bread from her mother’s business, Cecilia’s bread, pairing it with a special olive oil dip. The bread was $15 and the total gift was about $30.

Julia Diaz doesn’t expect her holiday bread baking business to be affected as her price points remain the same and is a popular gift item. Even if the ingredients cost increases, she hasn’t raised the price.

“Go Rate” allows people to peer into their wallets

“The go rate” gives people an idea of what other Americans spend on each other, Likert said.

“People don’t talk about ‘Well, how much did you give?’,” she said.

By offering a “go rate”, people can peer into everyone else’s wallets. Because these are difficult to talk about and have difficulty getting answers,” Likert said.

Who is Russ? What role does he play in the shutdown?

0

OMB Director Russ Vought is expected to play a major role during government shutdowns, including whether there will be any major layoffs.

play

It was Las Vault who flocked with House Republicans on the first day of the government’s shutdown to tell them that a massive federal worker layoff would start in “a day or two.”

Vought, director of the White House Management and Budget office, was standing with White House Vice President JD Vance and the GOP leader.

It was a contest that President Donald Trump praised social media for helping him determine what would be cut during the closure and whether the cut would be permanent.

Vought, who helped create the Policy Blueprint, known as Project 2025, plays a major role during the shutdown. This includes decisions on whether there will be a massive layoff of federal employees in place of Furlough, which funds will be cut and what will flow.

Vought played a key role in Trump’s drastic attempt to assert power over the federal budget. Federal judges have stagnated many of these actions, but efforts are expected to escalate during the closure if the administration has broad authority to broadly direct which employees and programs are “essential” to the government in which they operate, and which is not.

Congressional Republicans say Congressional Democrats handed over spending powers to the White House by shutting down the government, resulting in the

Sen. Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, told Fox News on October 1. “Las Vote will succeed in empowering Trump.

He could not comment through the White House press.

On September 30, Trump was considering using the closure as an opportunity to implement major changes to the government without Congress’ approval.

He spoke about opportunities to take “irreversible” actions, such as reducing benefits, “cutting programs like (Democrats)” and “cutting budgets to levels that can’t be otherwise.” Trump also said, “A lot of good can come from closure.”

Who is Russ?

Vought, who will lead the agency during Trump’s first term, will be responsible for overseeing the president’s budget, reviewing federal regulations and prioritizing enforcement funding. This role, often under the public radar, is a role that has an important force in implementing the president’s goals.

After leaving Trump’s first administration, Vought established a center to renew America. This is one of the Washington think tanks created to advance and develop Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda. He previously worked for a public policy agency, Vice President of Heritage Action in the United States, and worked for Capitol Hill.

He is a key architect of the controversial policy blueprint known as Project 2025, many of which were implemented during Trump’s second term. Vought is recognized as having created a chapter on executive power.

During a Senate confirmation hearing, Vought cited bipartisan criticism for refusing to refuse to comply with Congressional Expenses Act, calling existing restrictions unconstitutional and pointing out that they would follow the president’s instructions.

Vought said that rather than determining federal spending, the role of Congress is to set the ceiling, and that the president believes he can choose to spend less.

Shutdown layoff

According to a report originally published by Politico, Vought has directed the agency to prepare plans or layoffs for all employees “not in line with the president’s priorities.”

Employees who are generally deemed “not essential” to government functions are determined to be resolute. The Enforcement Department typically does not use shutdowns as a reason for layoffs.

After the Senate failed to avoid the shutdown, Vought wrote to the federal agency saying “the affected agencies should implement an orderly shutdown plan.”

Democrats have rejected the threat of filing federal employees as threats or negotiation tactics. The administration began rehiring some of its tens of thousands of federal employees earlier this year.

“We are not threatened by a completely, completely out of control Las Vault…” New York Democratic leader Hakem Jeffries told reporters at a September 25th press conference. “As a negotiation tactic, our response to Las Vault is simple: we get lost.”

Funding reductions to democratic countries

Vought wasted no time meeting the threat of making Democrats pay a political price for shutting down governments.

Vought’s first social media post on October 1 said $18 million in transportation funds are pending for a project in New York, represented by both Jeffries and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.

Vance was asked about timing and whether it was a strategy to narrow down New York to Schumer’s Cave.

“I’ve never spoken to Russ about this this morning, but looking at it, I’m sure Russ is heartbroken about the fact that he can’t give certain things to certain districts,” Vance said. “We want to do everything we can to help Americans, but when Democrats shut down the government, we have to do a bit of triage to make sure the most important and most important services are actually provided.”

Hours later, Vought announced it was cancelling funding for 16 Democratic-led state Green Energy Projects.

“Nearly $8 billion has been cancelled in green new fraud funds to fuel the climate agenda on the left,” Vought said in a social media post.

He said the cuts will affect California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

Washington Sen. Patty Murray, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Budget Committee, denounced “maphios tactics.”

“We’ve been less than a day for this closure, and Trump & Vault is illegally punishing Democratic-led states,” Murray told social media. “This administration clearly spits on opportunities to hurt people and uses the shutdown they caused as an excuse to do that.”

The government redirected funds in a similar way during the first Trump administration, and the government’s Accountability Office ruled it was a violation of anti-substantial law.

Previous government closures have not resulted in massive layoffs, and previous presidents have not used their time to make fundamental changes to the institution.

Matthew Spalding, a professor of constitutional government at Hillsdale University’s Washington DC campus, said whether Trump and Vauton are able to make permanent changes will bear details of what is being done.

“In general, there is nothing permanent because the three branches of constitutional government cannot limit the president or parliament of the future president or parliament,” he said.

On October 2nd, Trump posted on social media that “He of Project 2025’s fame decided that he was falling to decide which of many Democratic institutions is political fraud.”

“I can’t believe the radical left Democrats have given me this unprecedented opportunity,” Trump said.

AI causes reduced brain activity in users – MIT

0

In a study by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the human brain is not only less effective when using LLM, but its effects continue to affect mental activity in future work.

The researchers used a limited number of subjects in the experiment (limitations listed in the paper (PDF)). One group of subjects was allowed to use AI (CHATGPT was chosen). Researchers were allowed to generate work without the second group allowed to use Google search, i.e. “Brain Only”, i.e., without technology AIDS.

Electroencephalography (EEG) was used in all subjects to monitor brain activity to promote cognitive involvement and load. Researchers found that the group exhibited different levels of neural connectivity. This reflects the various strategies employed by the brain to write up assignments. The more support the subjects provided, the less their brains appeared to work. EEG analysis showed that the most active gray matter belongs to the auxiliary group, with less neural activity in the “search engine group” and less neural activity, at least among AI users.

The study also looked at what is called “ownership.” This is the ability to summarise the work by citing what the author wrote later. The level of ownership declined dramatically, and subjects received from the technology were more helpful. Few students using LLM were able to reliably quote what they wrote. Furthermore, the LLM-used group “generates statistically homogeneous essays within each topic, indicating significantly less deviations compared to the other groups.”

Naturally, the visual cortex of those using search engines or ChatGPT is more active, and these groups say they want to “focus on the output of the tools they were using.”

Long-term impact

After several essay writing, two more groups were formed from participating subjects, consisting of “Lm from the brain” and “Lm from the brain.” This was a subject who had no technology AIDS that previously failed to use LLM, and LLM users previously instructed them to complete the task.

The researchers stated, “Participants from LLM to the brain showed weaker neural connectivity and underengagement of the alpha and beta networks. Participants from the brain to LLM showed higher memory recalls and extensive occipital and prefrontal remarriages. (…) top-down control.”

In short, humans can benefit from using AI using their brains to tackle subjects rear They already have a complete grasp of their thoughts, experiences, knowledge and emotions without using technology. However, those using AI from the start were unable to perform cognitive tasks when brain activity decreased over time and were asked to use ChatGpt.

The paper states, “As demonstrated over a four-month period, participants in the LLM group performed worse than their counterparts in the brain-only group at all levels: neural, language, and (and) scoring.”

Limited research

The study had only a few dozen subjects, so the research group used a limited sample. The authors acknowledge that it is necessary to use more volunteers from more diverse backgrounds to reveal more statistically reliable findings. However, as AI is increasingly used in schools, universities and in everyday life, researchers highlight what is called the “urgent problem” of “decreased learning skills” that results from using AI as an alternative to the human brain.

Conclusion

If the tendency to use ChatGpt instead of highly human thinking activities continues, it appears likely that the ability to think effectively will decrease over the long term. When AI adds context or additional material, it gives better results later in any process of intellectual consideration than it would be used from the start.

According to the paper, the use of search engines fell into the middle ground between independent thinking and being a spoon-grown AI-generating material. However, Google and Microsoft needs, et al. Inserting AI-Generation into a user’s search results (LLM results (search engine results page) that appears at the top of the SERP) means that cognitive activity among everyday search users can be reduced if AI focuses solely on the search results.

The research group states that understanding the long-term effects of AI on the brain requires more research before LLM is recognized as a net positive for humans.

How can you strengthen your home against natural disasters?

0

play

Of the many things you know Assumption Do it – Write your will, understand taxes, and finally master Monday mornings – Enhance your home against natural disasters may be one of the more uncomfortable parts of adults.

There’s nothing fun about the worst-case scenarios like floods, fires, damaged property, injured or evacuated families. There is also the question of how much money you want to spend preparing for something that may never happen. This is a particularly simple trap if you have never experienced a natural disaster.

“People are still confident. “I think that’s what’s happening in Hawaii, Colorado and Florida, but that’s not happening to me,” said Leslie Chapman Henderson, president and CEO of SafeHome’s Federal Alliance or Flash, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group.

“But it blocks the ability to create a lifestyle that is very achievable, very affordable and could one day save your life. “In the meantime, it gives you peace of mind and confidence. It takes care of stress and reduces planning.”

How to start your home withstanding natural disasters?

For Chapman-Henderson, creating a “lifestyle” of safety means starting with easier steps and reaching more difficult steps. Ideally, preparation will become a very natural part of your life and it is just a part of your routine. Chapman-Henderson wants to reach the point of understanding all the options and make informed decisions.

For example: To save money with premiums, you can choose a larger insurance policy. As long as you have a plan to make that deductible payment in the event of a disaster, that’s fine.

In fact, taking your insurance stock is a great place to start, says Elizabeth Hausler, former CEO of Build Change, a global nonprofit that helps homeowners make their property more resilient.

“Before thinking about anything else, hardening or strengthening other homes, you should think about whether their insurance covers their losses,” Huasler told USA Today. “Make sure the coverage is sufficient. ”

The first step to protecting your home from natural disasters

If you don’t even know where to start, Flash has the tools to do so. By inspecting to protect, users can enter their addresses and get a list of the most at-risk dangers and recommended steps.

The organization focuses on major disasters that often capture headlines such as wildfires, floods, hurricanes, but also provides information on preparations for winter storms, tsunamis, tornadoes, lightning, hurricanes and extreme heat.

If you have some ideas about what you want to do, but you need to find an expert to do your job, take a look at the resources compiled by the Institute for Insurance for Business & Home Safety, a research group. IBHS’s fortification programme is a set of construction technology and materials standards that strengthen your home against bad weather.

Program Director Fred Malik said that upgrading or building a home with enhanced standards can often provide a sense of security. The idea behind the program is “to make good decisions based on science and you’ll be in a much better place than crossing it over the wings,” Malik said.

Contractors participating in the Enhancement Program are certified and have a directory on the site. If you choose not to go that route, Malik’s advice is to “always, always, always looking for licensed contractors” and those who often have the licensing process in your state.

How to protect your home from floods

One of the most important steps you can take is to price flood insurance. Flood damage is rarely covered by traditional homeowner insurance contracts, and your risk can be underestimated according to the official government flood zone map.

floodsmart.gov is the website of the National Flood Insurance Program if you are unable to find a private market insurance company. (NFIP cannot write policies until the federal government reopens.)

The second step is to determine how high flood waters could rise in your area if a storm hits you. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has several resources to determine this measurement. This is called the base flood elevation or BFE.

In your home, FEMA points out that you want to increase your utilities and home infrastructure like HVAC units at least 12 inches above the BFE. Also consider installing sump pumps and sewer backflow valves in floods, basements. Outside the home, you should regularly check the caulking and sealing around windows and doors. And consider elevating your home or moving it backwards from a waterway that could carry water.

Some of these steps can also help you save money with flood insurance premiums.

How do you protect your home from the risks of Wildfire?

The Department of Homeland Security has some good tips on protecting your home from wildfires, but this is one of the natural disasters that you should prioritize escape to safety, experts say.

In fact, many preparatory organizations recommend arming themselves in multiple ways to get alerts. The FEMA app can provide real-time alerts from the National Weather Service. Please also sign up for community alerts in your area.

If you are told to evacuate, do it immediately. Make sure that everyone in your family and family knows their escape plan and understands the need to follow an evacuation order.

To protect your home from fire, you need a “fire-resistant zone” around the home itself. Ready, set, go! The programme developed by the International Association of Firefighters offers several tips. Among them, remove weeds, brushes and other invasive vegetation and debris, and use non-flammable rock mulch around the house instead of standard mulch. Store adjacent tree branches at least 10 feet from the home, and store fire and other flammable materials as far as possible.

If there is space, you must specify “clean room.” This includes spaces that allow you to control exposure to smoke and other particles. Do not use clean rooms for cooking or heating. Stock up a portable air filter or air cleaner and consider purchasing an N95 face mask.

The Environmental Protection Agency has more information on setting up a clean room.

How do you protect your home from strong winds?

Invest in the roof: Loose shingles in an ideal patch with impact-resistant shingles. To prevent the roof from lifting up from the home, consider installing a roof strap that attaches the roof framing to the wall framing. Install storm shutters and stormproof glass in the windows to enhance the caulk and sealing around the house, including the pipes.

Outside the house, pruning tree branches and keeping them as far away as possible from the house.

Designate one area as a “safe room” as you do so due to the risk of wildfire. National Weather Service offers advice on how to build a wind power room. This may be as small as an internal closet.

The wind power room is properly secured so do not cover or lift the ground. There are also doors that can withstand walls, ceilings, wind pressures and resist penetration by falling items such as wind debris and wood and building elements. They should not be located in places where there is a risk of flooding or storm surges. Finally, there is a protected ventilation system, ideally including a fire extinguisher, flashlight, first aid kit, drinking water supply, and weather radio.

Flash offers detailed information about secure rooms. This is also an outer shelter.

A giant flame breaks out at a Chevron refinery near Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – A massive fire broke out at a Southern California oil refinery on October 2nd, officials said, spurring a major response by emergency crews, creating a massive flame that looks like the Los Angeles Basin.

A fire was discovered at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, the El Segundo Police Station told USA Today. Several fire departments worked to control the flames, but are currently included, police said.

“At this time there are no calls for evacuation of El Segundo’s housing and businesses,” police said. Nearby roads and highways were closed to allow firefighters to access the area.

There were no immediate reports of injuries caused by the flames. USA Today contacted Cheron and El Segundo Fire Station for comments.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass were briefed on the incident. The governor’s office said X is coordinating with local and state agencies to protect the surrounding communities and ensure public safety.

Bass said on social media that there is no known impact on Los Angeles International Airport.

The El Segundo facility was built in 1911 and is the largest production oil refinery on the West Coast. The refinery processes more than 276,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The founder of Texas Mega Church pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse

0

play

PAUWSKA, Okla. — Robert Morris, founder of Texas Megachurch, pleaded guilty in Oklahoma Court on October 2 to a sex crime against a girl that began in 1982 and lasted for years.

Morris, 64, has committed five felony counts of child lewd or vulgarity in an Osage County court. He will serve six months in the Osage County Jail and be on probation for nine years and six months, according to a judicial agreement outlined in a news release by Oklahoma Attorney General Gettner Drummond.

He also has to register as a sex offender and pay victim Cindy Clemisher $270,000 in reparations. Morris did not apologise in court.

Osage County Special Judge Cindy Piqueril accepted the contract after Clemshire admitted that she had been consulted about it and agreed to the punishment.

Probation is considered a suspended sentence under a judicial agreement. This means that Morris is currently a convicted felon. If he violated the terms of his probation, he could go to prison.

“This case is even more despicable because the perpetrator was a pastor who exploited his trust and authority position,” Drummond said in a news release. “The victims in this case had been waiting for this day too many years.”

Victims say that the crime is “the wounded faith itself.”

Morris admitted to the misconduct after Clemisher spoke to Wartburg Watch, a blog about sexual abuse within the church. Clemisher previously told USA Today, which has not been named a victim of sexual abuse.

“All the victims, come forward… I don’t believe I’m the only person,” she said.

In a victim’s impact statement in the October 2nd minutes, Kremisher once again said that Morris had sexually abused her for over four years.

“While you created a megachurch, created a written book and gained fame, I dropped out of college, endured divorce and suffered from self-worth,” she told Morris in a voice choked with emotion.

“I twisted your crime into a ‘infidelity’ story to protect your image, but my family and I were trying to explain the truth to the reciprocal pastor.

She told him that his crimes “harmed the faith itself” and she told him he really wanted him to repent. Morris bowed his head and closed his eyes between the shocking statements.

Why was Robert Morris blamed?

In a blog post, Kremisher said she and her family met Morris at the Tulsa Youth Revival when she was 20 and 11 years old. Morris was a preacher traveling with his wife Debbie.

Morris preaches at the church in Cremisher on Sunday, and sometimes he, Debbie and their son stay at her family home. She viewed him as “safe and friendly,” she said.

On Christmas 1982, when Morris asked 12-year-old Cremisher to “visit him in his room that night,” she said in the post. When she entered his room, she said he sexually abused her and warned her.

She said the abuse continued in Oklahoma and Texas until 1987.

In a statement made last year, Morris said in her early 20s that she was involved in “inappropriate sexual behavior with a young woman at the house where I was staying.” Morris pleaded guilty “for finality,” his Texas attorney Bill Mateja said in a news statement.

“Pastor Robert emphasized asking Ms. Clemischer and her family to sincerely apologize for his actions and ask them what they are asking for their forgiveness,” the lawyer said.

Morris was on Trump’s spiritual advisory committee during his 2016 campaign

Morris resigned as senior pastor at Gateway Church last year after admitting to fraud. He founded a church in South Lake, Texas, a suburb of Dallas and Fort Worth. Under his leadership, it expanded to multiple locations.

The church removed some of its officials following the law firm’s investigation into the allegations in November.

Morris joined Trump’s spiritual advisory committee during the 2016 campaign and during the first term of his presidency. He had no role in his 2024 reelection efforts.

According to a biographer on the Gateway Church website, Morris has a television programme that airs in over 190 countries, and his radio programme has aired in over 6,800 cities. His YouTube page is no longer online, but he has 80,000 subscribers, including “Freedom Surow Forgiveness” and “Did you know that you are perfected by God’s grace?”

What’s next for Robert Morris?

Morris faces civil lawsuits accusing her of slandering the victim over the years, including when she allegedly forgiving him. Clemisher and her father filed a lawsuit in Dallas County District Court in June.

They complained that Morris described the sex crime as “extramarital affair,” and said that Kremisher had seduced him.

They also complained that church officials had known about sexual abuse for years, but tried to hide it “to benefit from the church.”

“Victims often go through what I did in 2024 – my personality slander and efforts to change liability have minimized my abuse and turned private pain into national news,” Kremisher said in a statement after his guilty plea.

If you or you have experienced sexual violence, Rainn’s National Sexual Assault Hotline provides free, secret, 24/7 support to survivors and their loved ones in English and Spanish at 800.656.hope (4673) and hotline.rainn.org and enespañolainn.org/es.

Former Death Moyne Principal Ian Roberts hit with federal gun accusations

0

Des Moines – The former supervisor of Iowa’s largest school district, who was detained by immigration agents last week, was charged in federal court with possession of a firearm while in the United States without legal approval, prosecutors said Oct. 2.

Ian Roberts, who resigned as Des Moines Public Schools superintendent earlier this week, was taken into custody by US immigrants and customs enforcement agents on September 26th, when he was handed over and allegedly fled from police. Federal authorities accused Roberts, 54, of no legal approval to reside or work in the United States.

During the arrest, federal agents found a handgun loaded with a towel inside the vehicle that Roberts was driving, criminal charges alleged. Law enforcement also executed a search warrant at Roberts’ home, finding three other firearms and multiple firearm magazines, according to the complaint.

The Department of Homeland Security previously referred Roberts to the Bureau of Alcohol, cigarettes, firearms and explosives.

Roberts was being subjected to immigration authorities’ deportation at the Woodbury County Jail in Sioux, about 150 miles northwest of Des Moines. However, on October 2nd, Roberts was taken away from prison by the Department of Justice on a federal warrant for his arrest.

He appeared in the first court on Oct. 2, the US Lawyer’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa said in a news release. Roberts will remain federal custody waiting for further proceedings.

Former Des Moynes school principal received an order to expel him in 2024

Roberts, who was hired at a public school in Des Moines in 2023, received a previously unreported deportation order in 2024. He was originally from Guyana, South America, and moved to the United States to study and play university sports.

In 1999, the federal government granted Roberts a student visa. Between 2001 and 2018, Roberts failed to become a permanent US resident, according to new criminal charges.

Federal authorities alleged in the complaint that Roberts was not qualified to work in the United States when he took on the district’s top job. Roberts’ work approval in the United States expired more than two years before he became Des Moines’ principal in 2020, according to the complaint.

In May 2024, Roberts did not appear in Dallas Immigration Court for a hearing on a potential deportation. The judge then ordered Roberts to return to Guyana.

Roberts’ lawyers say they are trying to suspend his deportation and resume his case. Attorney Alfredo Parrish told Des Moines Register, part of the USA Today Network on October 2 that his legal team is still working with state and federal agencies to protect Roberts’ interests and “take this step at a time.”

“I can’t say I didn’t know that this could happen, but I’d obviously want to see if we can reach a solution,” he said of the complaint.

ICE agents found the order of removal of documents in the inspector’s vehicle, the complaint revealed.

While searching Roberts’ home on September 26th, officers allegedly found a copy of the May 2024 deportation order in another vehicle in his garage.

Defending his client at a September 30 press conference, Parish said he believes Roberts is permitted to live and work in the United States. Parrish also shared a letter from Jackyline Gonzaertz, a Texas immigration lawyer who previously represented Roberts.

“I am writing to inform you of the closure of your immigration case,” Gonzalez wrote in a letter dated March 27th this year. “It was my joy to represent you through this process. I am happy to report that your case has reached a successful resolution.”

Despite Gonzalez’s announcement of a “successful resolution,” an immigration judge denied Roberts’ claim to resume the lawsuit in April.

Following Parish’s press conference, ATF special agent Robert Carlson wrote a complaint that he had called Gonzalez. He provided a November 2024 letter where he told Roberts that he told her he owed her company about $11,800 unpaid bill.

She filed a motion to withdraw as Roberts’ attorney in January, but the judge did not control her request before denying an allegation to resume Roberts’ lawsuit. Regarding Gonzalez’s letter, Carlson wrote in a complaint that “he is not intended to tell Roberts that his immigration case with the Immigration Court has been completed, but is rather closed in her office.”

Des Moines Public Schools are considering possible legal actions

Since Roberts’ first arrest, officials at the Des Moines school said they believe he is a US citizen. They said Roberts completed the I-9 form. This is a document that employers must use to verify employee permission to work in the United States.

District spokesman Phil Lauder said in an email on October 2 that Roberts gave the district a copy of his driver’s license and Social Security card before the school board hired him in May 2023.

The School Board said in a news release on October 2 that it would discuss possible litigation related to Roberts’ background arrests and subsequent revelation during the special session on October 3.

“Des Moines Public Schools face a different reality than last Friday,” said school board chair Jackie Norris. “As a learning institution, we will use this opportunity to review the latest supervisory recruitment process and retain accountants who have contributed to this current situation.”

“From misrepresenting his citizenship status to a nonexistent degree, it appears that Ian Roberts misinterpreted people not only about Des Moines here, but also about the paths that extend from Pennsylvania and across the country,” Norris said. “Whether between legal action and thorough internal review, we vow to find the truth and that this will never happen again.”

NEW YORK – A two-night, late-game heroic and miserable finish replaced the coda, suitable for this New York Yankee Thread Sox American League wildcard series. Winners All Games 3. Beth Club keeps winner tickets to win the Toronto Blue Jays starting the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada’s AL division.

This shows the fourth-time winner playoff engagement between these clubs since 2003. “Aaron Bleeping Boone” ALCS Game 7. They met in the same setting a year later when the Red Sox completed their historic comeback from a 3-0 deficit in seven games. The Red Sox also won the final AL wildcard game at Fenway Park in 2021.

A pair of rookies – early on in Yankees right-handed Cam Schlittler and Red Sox Lefty Connery – get a starting assignment at Yankee Stadium, but the game is almost certainly decided. He will debut a month ago. However, Kora’s reliever needs to reload quickly after covering six innings in Game 2. Top Setup Man Garrett Whitlock can be particularly compromised after scoring five outs before giving up a Goors hit to Austin Wells.

With a 4-0 lead, Aaron Boone made the surprising decision to bring Cam Schlitter back to the eighth inning, and the rookie rewarded his manager and passed the innings with just seven pitches. He added his 12th strikeout of the night, and third baseman Ryan McMahon made an incredible grab that fell into the Red Sox dugout to catch a foul ball.

The Yankees are six outs from the advance to the ALDS while Cam Schlittler allows five hits and nolans, not hitting 11 on 100 pitches in six innings.

The last time the Yankees blew a four-run lead in the postseason was in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Schlittler’s 11 strikeouts were mostly achieved by the Yankees’ rookie pitchers in postseason games.

The Yankees beat the open game in the fourth inning

The two Boston outfielders and second baseman were unable to catch Cody Bellinger’s high pop-up to center, making it a leadoff double. Amed Rosario plated the first run of the game with the single left, earning a right score from Anthony Volpe’s baseroad single.

Austin Wells then ticked the wrong ball to Nathaniel Lowe, scoring two more points for a 4-0 New York lead, finishing the Red Sox starter Connery night early. The rookie went into three innings, allowing a run he scored three times with six hits on one walk on five strikeouts and 78 pitches. Early was replaced by Justin Sulatin, a reliever. Justin Slatin hit Judge Aaron on the pitch to load the base, but after the 10 Yankees came to the plate, he jumped out to Kody Bellinger to finish the innings.

The Yankees waste Giancarlo Stanton’s leadoff double

Giancarlo Stanton scored the second bottom, but the Yankees were not capitalized as Ben Rice swayed with a filthy sweeper.

Connery Early does the Yankees’ quick work first

Connelly, the 23-year-old Red Sox starter, started off by attacking Trent Grisham quickly on five pitches. Aaron’s judge then flew to the center, and Cody Bellinger grounded the shortstop on consecutive pitches. A very efficient start early.

Did nothing for the Red Sox in the first inning

Yankees starter Cam Schlittler took the hill on a 60-degree night and didn’t look like a rookie in the first inning, so Trevor’s story jumped out, lining up second to leadoff hitter Jarlen Duran, and Alex Bregman finished the innings while watching.

New York – Who is Connery?

He hasn’t been removed for a month since his major league debut. He came on September 9th. This was more than a year after suffering Class A Greenville (SC) drive in the South Atlantic League.

And now? The home game won before nearly 50,000 people at Yankee Stadium has been removed from the University of Virginia for just two years.

Tension, kids?

“Let’s go, let’s do it,” the Red Sox said early about minutes after pitching coach Andrew Bailey said it was the ball in Game 3 after a 4-3 loss in Game 2.

Jalen Duran

NEW YORK – Technically, Jarlen Duran was not charged with Judge Aaron’s fifth fly wrong to the left. Catch it, finishing the innings, tied the score 2-2, and Trevor Story’s Homer would have given Boston a lead instead of taking the lead in the next inning.

The final four innings had enough drama for Duran’s semi-muffs to be almost forgotten. Duran has more trouble turning the pages.

“This is going to stab a bit. I know this game is 100% for me,” Duran said. “Trevor hits Homer and we take the lead. I ruined it and gave it momentum. But it’s on top of me. I have to wear it.

“I’m excited to play tomorrow and make amends myself.”

Benefits of SNAP, will the food bank be affected by government closures?

0

play

As partial government closures expand on the second day except for the end, more federal funding agencies have kept the lights up and keep their doors open for millions of Americans who rely on service.

Some programs are guaranteed to continue funding, such as Social Security, but others face greater uncertainty as Congress and the White House continue to remain modest beyond budgets. Programs such as the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplementary Nutrition Program (WIC) for Women, Infants and Children rely on cooperation between the state and the federal government.

SNAP perks will be assigned one month in advance. So, October doesn’t make a difference for those who rely on the program. However, in the face of extended shutdowns, the process can quickly become complicated.

Here’s what you need to know about government closures and snaps:

What is a snap?

The Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program, known as “Food Stamps,” is a US federal program designed to help low-income individuals and families provide nutritious foods. We offer monthly perks via an electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. It works like a debit card that can be used to buy groceries at certified retailers, such as supermarkets and convenience stores.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, in 2024, SNAP was used by an average of 41.7 million people per month, or around 12.3% of the US population.

What happens to Snap during the government shutdown?

USDA, which oversees SNAP and similar programs through its food and nutrition services division, has a contingency plan to maintain core services at least temporarily during government closures.

Funds for the October SNAP benefits were allocated before the month began. This means that payments have already been processed and distributed. According to the USDA plan, if the shutdown lasts for a long time, USDA can take advantage of multi-year emergency response funds that can be used to directly pay administrative costs and participant benefits. It is currently unknown whether the reserves are currently available.

However, these measurements are temporary means of performing FNS. Existing ongoing resolutions, or temporary funding measures, will generally allow the USDA to pay benefits 30 days after the closure begins, and the funds may run out. If closures continue beyond October, it could run out of USDA’s contingency plans, and administrations could choose not to utilize the multi-year fund, according to the Responsible Federal Budget Committee and the Center for Food Research and Action.

At this point, it is unclear whether the closure will last long or whether benefits will be suspended in November.

During the closures between 2018 and 2019, the USDA paid its February benefits early at the end of January, and Congress passed emergency funds in March to continue paying.

USA Today reached USDA for comment.

What challenges do SNAP beneficiaries face with government shutdowns?

Maintaining SNAP’s profits can be a challenge, especially at the state level if the shutdown is too long.

USDA staff were cut by about half during the final shutdown. Activities such as benefits verification, application processing and website updates have been suspended, and other features could face delays due to bare bone staffing.

The timeline in which SNAP benefits are handled varies by state. This means that federal level chaos can quell the chaos. Each state must send data on the SNAP benefits of eligible households monthly to the EBT vendor. This data allows vendors to load perks into their EBT cards for next month, resulting in delayed or missed payments if not submitted in time, according to the Responsible Federal Budget, Food Research & Action Center and the USDA Committee.

Normally, the USDA coordinates and approves transmissions for these states, but the ability to do so is limited by Furloughs and lack of funds.

Food retailers are also unable to renew their EBT Resense or apply for a new license during shutdown. This means that those who have expired their license will no longer accept SNAP perks.

How will the food bank be affected by government closures?

Food banks have historically been affected by closures as a result of the disruption in supplemental food programs.

According to Feeding America, if thousands of federal workers pay or work unpaid, they could need food banks and pantry. Those relying on programs such as SNAP and WIC are heavily dependent on food banks when benefits distributions are confusing, delayed or uncertain.

Other programs, such as the Emergency Food Aid Program and the Product Senior Food Program, rely on the USDA to provide food to provide food, with some banks receiving funds directly from agents.

These services are expected to continue normal operations for the time being, but extended shutdowns could delay or halt the distribution of resources and assistance, making them even more nervous about already tied up charities.

Rams vs. 49ers Live Update: Score, TNF Highlights

play

The Los Angeles Rams host a San Francisco 49ers team that was hurt and abused in a “Thursday Night Football” clash between NFC West rivals.

The 49ers will run out on the offensive side of the ball for Thursday’s game. Starting quarterback Brock Purdy (TOE) misses the contest after returning from injury in week 4, starting receivers Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (rib rib/ankle).

Bith George Kittle (Hamstring) and Brandon Aiyuk (ACL Recovery) also stand by, with 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones having to work with the skeleton weapons crew in divisional battles. He believes he’s leaning heavily towards Christian McCaffrey as a backfield outlet while receiver Kendrick Bourne and tight end Jake Tong try to help as much as he can.

The Rams are far healthier than the 49ers and will likely rely on Pukanakua to continue their attacks. The 24-year-old currently leads the league with catches (42) and receiving yards (503), usually working well in the “TNF” game, averaging 122.3 yards in three career games on Thursday.

Like last Thursday night’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals, the winner will find himself sitting alone above the NFC West for at least a few days.

USA Today Sports brings live game updates, highlights and more. Please check below.

San Francisco used a large dose of Christian McCaffrey to drive the 49ers opening drive. He took up 40 yards with five touches (two catches, three carry). However, quarterback Mac Jones discovered a tight ending jocking in the middle opens wide due to a six-yard touchdown pass.

Eddy Pineiro’s extra points attempt is good, with the 49ers taking a 7-0 lead at 10:09 and going into the first quarter.

The 49ers quarterback was buried for an injured block pardy and began a 4-4 match for 71 yards.

Los Angeles won a coin toss and chose to postpone it to the second half. Rams kicker Josh Carty energized a knuckleball-style kick to start the game, and 49ers returner Skyy Moore groped it out. After it bouncing back in the air, Moore surrounded it and the 49ers offense began a drive on his own 28-yard line.
