“Please ask for another check.” 5 tips for dealing with money with friends

0

play

Friendship and money aren’t mixed in, new research suggests.

More than one in three Americans lost friends over money, according to a summer report on personal finance site Lendingtree.

Of the 2,000 adults surveyed, 36% said they lost friendship through money. Two-fifths reported tension with friends over money. And almost a third felt the pressure to keep up with my friends’ spending habits.

But none of that tension seems to stop Americans from mixing money and friendship. In the Lendingtree survey, 77% of respondents said they lent money to their friends. A third of the lenders didn’t get the money back.

“Money is complicated and emotional,” says Traci Williams, an Atlanta-based clinical psychologist and certified financial therapist. “And because our friendship is part of the closest relationship in the world, it’s no surprise that the two of us get mixed up and complicated.”

The risk of mixing friendship and funds

Other recent studies have come to similar conclusions about the dangers of merging friendship and funds.

In a 2024 survey by financial services firm Bread Financial, 21% of Americans reported losing friendships over money. The survey reached 1,670 consumers.

Money can in other ways make friendships tense. In the Pan Financial Survey, 65% of consumers said they “break the budget” because of social activities. And 26% said they felt financially incompatible with their friends.

In the Lendingtree survey, 69% of consumers said they opted out of going out of social outings due to costs.

Communication, or lack of it, appears to be a major draw to the financial conflict between friends. One friend expects the loan to be paid back, while the other isn’t. One diner opposes the cost of the group’s meals, but does not speak out.

“I think people get injured in a place where their expectations aren’t met,” said Jessica Calaway, senior manager of consumer insights at Bread Financial.

Young Americans may be more used to money and friends than older generations. In the Pan Financial Survey, 61% of Gen Z and 70% of Millennials said that borrowing money from friends is a common practice.

Young consumers “grown up in a world where talking about money wasn’t a taboo,” Karaway said. “There’s tension about that, but that tension isn’t necessarily a bad one.”

There are several rules for dealing with money with friends drawn from everygirl and Bustle from the above experts and publications.

Be careful when lending to friends

As research suggests, loans to friends don’t always end well.

Lending money to a friend in need can strengthen friendship, experts say. But what happens when you lend money to a friend who is complaining of poverty and then see them splurge at the mall the following weekend? There can be harsh judgments and feelings of hurt.

“If you’re going to lend someone money or borrow money from someone, it’s really important to sit down and talk through expectations on both sides and what will happen if those expectations aren’t met.” “Because it’s much easier to have a conversation in advance than when things are on fire.”

If a friend asks you to borrow money, Schultz said, it’s okay to say no.

If you borrow money, or dress, or power tools from a friend, the experts should quickly return it.

It’s okay to return the money

If you lend a large amount to a friend or lend a precious record album, there may be a time when your friend is afraid that he has forgotten his loan.

It’s difficult to find the right way to return it to invite a friend.

If that’s money, Bustle suggests and you can send a reminder to your favorite payment app.

Also, “Hey, can you hit me for that Taylor Swift ticket?”

But be careful how you write it.

“Remember, this is your friend,” Williams said. “Treat this person like you care.”

Don’t ask for rewards for small things

You may feel that you’ll be wiped out by finding a friend for a coffee drink for $7. But if you harass them endlessly to pay you back, you risk building friendships.

Friendship sometimes means a small exchange of favors. You buy this coffee and I buy the next one.

Bustle surveyed readers about money etiquette and found that 90% don’t bother Venmo requests under $10.

“For one person, $10 might not seem like that much,” Williams said. “And for others, that might be true.”

Find a fair way to split the bill

Splitting up restaurant tabs is rarely easy. One diner can eat and drink twice as much as another.

In large groups, the server may be helpful in enquiring about individual checks. If you’re worried about splitting the bill, that’s the moment to speak up.

“People usually want to pay for what they consume,” Williams said. “They don’t want to split all over the place.”

Fortunately, splitting the bill has never been easier. Many restaurants do it for you. There are many bill split apps.

Plan your spending in advance on large trips

Splitting the restaurant tab is one thing. For weekends in Las Vegas, the bets are much higher.

For group vacations, experts say it’s important to plan your expenses in advance.

“That’s when you really want to be clear about what your expectations and plans are and what deadlines are for paying things,” Williams said.

It is human nature that we feel we are resenting a big bill. To avoid antipathy, she said she would consider creating a spreadsheet that cuts the exact costs and showing who is paying for what.

Laura Rumer loses Supreme Court bid to sue social media sites

0

Rumer claimed that Facebook and Twitter had conspired with advertisers to prevent her from posting.

play

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court won’t help conservative provocateur Laura Rumer face social media companies and advertisers who blocked her posts.

Rumer, an influential outside adviser to President Donald Trump, has attracted a lot of attention for her conspiracy theories and inflammatory comments.

She was banned from Twitter in 2018 for “hateful” behaviour. In 2019, Facebook said it would ban Loomers and other controversial figures as “dangerous individuals” and ban users who promote violence and hatred.

However, her Twitter account was revived in 2022 after billionaire Trump’s ally Elon Musk purchased the platform.

On October 6th, the court refused to appeal by Rumer in the fourth lawsuit in which Facebook and X conspired with advertisers to stop using her site while running for Congress in the 2020 and 2022 elections.

The ban fate her campaign, she said in the lawsuit.

“Social media is important for campaigns, especially during Covid-19 restrictions, which limit traditional campaign methods such as Doorto-Door Canvassing and Public Events,” her lawyer wrote.

A federal judge in California dismissed the case, which relied on the organizational laws affected by the racket.

The San Francisco-based Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to fire Rumer, saying there was no reasonable argument that the company had violated RICO.

“The operational complaints argue that there were simply RICO companies because the defendant had a common goal of earning money and gaining influence over other companies and entities, and other monetary and non-monetary benefits,” the Court of Appeals wrote. “In short, the district court has properly dismissed the complaint and refused leave to revise it.”

Oral State Court Discussions to Be Monitored in October

0

monthly, State Court Report Preview upcoming oral discussions in a prominent or interesting state court case.

In October, the state Supreme Court will address a wide range of issues, including the right to free speech to sham and record Montana police, the constitution of New York’s groundbreaking voter protection law, and restrictions on those who may have an abortion in Alaska.

Do police record safe speeches? – October 1st

Kalispell City vs DomanMontana Supreme Court

The Montana Supreme Court will consider the appeal of the defendant, who has seen traffic going and began recording his encounter on a mobile phone. He was arrested and argued with police and was accused of obstructing a peace officer, including calling one of the officers a “tyrant.” The defendant argues that his “tyrant” remarks were a speech protected under the First Amendment to the US Constitution and the Montana statements and expression provisions, and is an inappropriate basis for criminal charges. With Amicus’ support from the American Civil Liberties Union, he also argues that the disability laws applicable to his conduct are unconstitutional, as both federal and state free speech and press guarantees the right to record law enforcement agencies that fulfill their public obligations. Given the defendant had been filming peacefully from the public sidewalk, they argued, and officers overly restricted their rights by arresting him.

Do certain Texas studies legally allow gender maintenance care for minors? – October 7th

Pflag v. Attorney General’s OfficeTexas Supreme Court

The Texas Supreme Court will address information requests the state has made to PFLAG, an LGBTQ+ organization, as part of an investigation into whether health care providers are circumventing Texas’ ban on gender-maintaining care for minors. The request arises from the CEO of Affidavit PFLAG Loev. Texas – Previous cases where the ban was finally enacted – mentioned by a family member who feared that at the time, still legal care, had considered “contingency plans” and “alternatives to maintain care.” The PFLAG responded to research demand by suing to block it, and the state opposed it to implement it. The State High Court will consider whether the “justice” for the lower court is erroneous in attacking some of the requests for grounds for information relating to PFLAG membership and private communications, in violation of the First Amendment and the state’s constitutional speech and association rights.

PFLAG also has another appeal awaiting debate before the Texas Supreme Court. At issue is the validity of a temporary injunction upheld by the midterm court against the implementation of a governor’s order that investigates parents of child abuse suspected of providing gender-protective care to transgender children.

Will a lawsuit proceed to stop future harm to immigrants? – October 8th

Michigan Immigration Rights Center v. GovernorMichigan Supreme Court

The Michigan Supreme Court will undertake the due process challenges by immigration legal support groups against the state’s alleged policy of refusing workers to undocumented workers based on immigration status. The group only seeks future relief, not damages for past harm, but to require future laws. The Intermediate Court stated that laws prohibiting claims against the state cannot proceed with litigation to prohibit claims against the state unless the plaintiff submits a request or notice of the claim within the year that exists from the time the claim exists. The court said the practices argued here caused injuries more than a year before filing first.

In its appeal to the Michigan High Court, the plaintiffs and Amicus groups (including the National Immigration Law Center and the National Employment Act protections) argue that it should not apply to future relief requests against state authorities. “They prohibit claims that seek to prevent future harm based on past injuries, they argue, that they broadly protect the state from accountability for continued and future unconstitutional violations, and can affect marginalized communities that order state courts to comply with constitutional laws, which can last for a long time and exacerbate harm.”

Does New York’s Voting Rights Act violate equal protection? – October 14th

Clark v. The town of Newburgh New York Court of Appeals

The New York High Court hears debate as to whether provisions of state voting rights laws, designed to mitigate election practices that reduce their ability to select candidates of their choice, known as vote dilution, violate federal or state equal protection requirements. Black and Hispanic residents argued that Newberg’s method of selecting townboard members had diluted their votes in violation of the law. The court found that the national law itself violated the US Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection by providing relief based on racial classification. However, the Court of Appeals overturned the decision and found the town failed to show that compliance with New York’s Voting Rights Act enforces violating federal equal protection requirements. The midterm court in part reasoned that the vote dilution provision would allow all racial groups, including white voters, including political subdivision minorities, to reflect on potential remedies that do not screen voters who do not organize voters based on race.

Does the Washington Campaign Disclosure Act violate freedom of speech? – October 28th

Washington vs. Meta PlatformWashington Supreme Court

The Washington Supreme Court will consider Meta’s free speech challenge to Meta’s fair campaign practices law. This generally requires companies running election-related ads to keep records of their advertising for public reviews.

The Court of Appeal rejected Meta’s claim that the law violated the First Amendment and was preempted by the Commonwealth Act of Federal Communications. The court applied “strict scrutiny,” a federal standard used to assess campaign disclosure requirements, to Washington state law, and concluded that the law is significantly related to the important government’s interests of notifying voters how those paying for advertising and advertisers are trying to influence elections.

The Brennan Center and other nonprofits will file Amicus briefs at the Court of Appeals stage, and the Washington Supreme Court will argue for a surge in political ads online and microtargeting, requiring transparency requirements.

Can non-physicists prohibit abortion? – October 29th

Alaska vs. Great Northwest Planning ParentsAlaska Supreme Court

The Alaska Supreme Court will implement the state’s ban on highly trained and licensed clinicians, such as doctor assistants and nurses, but non-medical people have two most common first sign surgeries: drugs and aspiration abortion. The trial court has found that by breaking the ban and limiting the availability of care without improving the health and safety of the patient, it violated the patient’s state constitutional privacy rights, previously recognized by the Alaska High Court. The ban also violates Alaska’s Equality Protection Clause, as the court treats patients differently based on reproductive choices, as it does not prevent these advanced clinicians from providing nearly identical care to people experiencing miscarriage. In its appeal, the state argues that the ban does not undermine the right to make sufficient reproductive decisions to cause strict scrutiny.

Starbucks is pleased to announce March, the 2025 holiday drink. See what’s back.

Nothing represents Christmas like eggnog, peppermint or gingerbread flavoured items. Starbucks knows too well.

Starbucks is regaining its holiday menu and popular red cup day. On November 6th, the coffee house chain will add peppermint mocha, caramel blue latte, ice sugar cookie latte and ice gingerbread chai to its menu.

Later in the holiday season, the chestnut prarin latte and fan-favorite eggnoglate will return, Starbucks told USA Today in a statement.

According to Starbucks, coffee lovers are delighted as Red Cup Day will also return later this holiday season. Customers can celebrate their informal annual holidays with collectable reusable holiday cups that are hand-made holiday drinks free of charge, the Coffealhouse chain added.

Here’s what you need to know about Starbucks’ holiday menu and other celebratory efforts:

What are Starbucks’ 2025 Holiday Menu Items?

According to Starbucks, holiday menu items include:

  • Peppermint Mocha: It features a Starbucks Signature Espresso topped with steamed milk, mocha sauce, peppermint-flavored syrup and whipped cream and dark chocolate curls. Can be used as a hot, iced or Frappuccino blend drink.
  • The latte burned caramel: It combines Starbucks’ signature espresso with steamed milk topped with whipped cream and caramel blue topping and a rich caramel blue lees sauce. Can be used as a hot, iced or Frappuccino blend drink.
  • Ice sugar cookie latte: It combines sugar cookie flavored syrup with Starbucks blonde espresso, ice cream and milk topped with red and green sprinkles. Can be used as a hot, iced or Frappuccino blend drink.
  • Ice Gingerbread Chai: It combines warm chai spices, creamy oat milk and ice, topped with a cold foam with a non-season airy gingerbread flavour and spice stoppings.
  • Chestnut Praline Latte: Starbucks’ signature espresso, steamed milk, and caramelized chestnut and spice flavors are topped with whipped cream and spice praline bread crumbs. Can be used as a hot, iced or Frappuccino blend drink.
  • Egg welter: After being recently discontinued from the holiday menu in 2021, this return drink features Starbucks’ signature espresso, steamed eggnog, milk splash and nutmeg toppings.

Starbucks collaborates with Hello Kitty on holiday products

In addition to the holiday menu, Starbucks said it will offer the Holiday March Collection (festival drinks and gift sets) along with a limited edition collaboration with chain Hello Kitty.

“Starbucks and Hello Kitty have strong cultural fandom and deep roots,” said Cup Patries, Starbucks’ director of US merchandise, in a statement. “Interestingly, both were born in the ’70s. Hello Kitty in 1974 and Starbucks in 1971. I’m excited to bring back the nostalgic vibe with this special collaboration this holiday season.”

To put together the two brands for the collection, Patries added that it “feeled natural” because it “focused on nostalgia, human connection and connecting people.”

The exclusive collection features a set of items and collectibles, including a Hello Kitty stuffed toy dressed in the iconic Starbucks green apron (and her signature red bow), a $34.95 Hello Kitty ceramic mug, a $32.95 stainless steel cold cup, and a 295 cold bottles in a 26-oz stainless steel cold cup for the 24-OUNCE WOTR 295 cold bottles. A stainless steel 12oz tumbler for $24.95 and $32.95.

“The collection is fastened to tumblers, mugs and cold cups, and also offers fun, unexpected items,” Patrice said. “Whether you’re looking for a gift for a friend or a small one for yourself, this collection will make every moment feel a little more joyful and make every gift feel a little more personal.”

The Starbucks and Hello Kitty Collection will be available at Starbucks coffee houses in the US and Canada starting November 6th, but will be the last consumable item.

What else does Starbucks offer on your holidays?

This holiday season, Starbucks said that fan-favorite pastries will return, including snowman cookies, cranberry bliss bars and sugar plum cheese Danish, so the bakery case said they will “dress for the season.” New additions include polar bear cake pops and cinnamon pulled apartment bread

Also, for coffee fans who can’t wait until November 6th, Starbucks Holiday Coffee and Creamers are now available at select grocery stores and department stores, including Target and Walmart.

“Coffee fans looking for holiday flavors, such as peppermint mocha or sugar cookie latte, can buy Starbucks coffee, cream and ready-to-eat drinks, where groceries are sold nationwide,” Starbucks said.

I went to an all-female adult sleeping camp. This is what happened.

0

play

Equinanc, Pa. – It’s 7:30am and I’m standing on top of a barefoot 30-foot water slide in a swimsuit.

Under me: A lake painted with wind. Behind me: A line of women cheering from a woman I just met. On other Saturdays, I’m still asleep. But I’m on camp social – Poconos’ gorgeous all-female adult sleepway camp – the catchphrase is “99% have arrived solo and left as 100% friends.” And in the spirit of field reporting, I promised myself to say yes to everything. So I inhale, stuff my nose and activate the slide.

Founded in 2023 by influencer Liv Schreiber, this weekend retreat bills itself as a place where women can snatch out of lifelong friendships. For $884, 450 women joined me on September 26th-28th, committing to include farm-to-table meals, nightly themed parties and stolen items filled with exclusive merchandise.

Looking at the camp packaging list, including suggestions for style bus outfits, we couldn’t be worried that Hannah Holvas would appear at her high-end Montauks swim camp on HBO’s “girls.” However, when I got on the bus on a Friday morning I met a woman who seemed really interested in making friends before I left Manhattan.

Pilates, Popping Louds by the Pond, Color War

Upon arrival, my luggage was whisked up the hill and carried to the cabin. So, on weekends, they will be in all age groups, along with seven other girls.

I am greeted by a covered pavilion called the “Lacroix Lounge,” filled with bracelet-making supplies, soda drinks and branded camp social postcards. To my right, a crowd of horses punched punches to the beat of Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Suck Without You” on bright green grass lawns.

Beyond them, the 3D block letter sculpture overlooking Lake Renape spells camp social in shades of pastel pink, orange, red and yellow, sandwiched between barrels spilling in magenta and red flowers.

Sleepway camping for adults is nothing new. Club Getaway’s all-inclusive adult camping and camping are available. Counselors advertise live bands, heated pools and “Yoga by the lake has a drink in your hands.” For those who like games, fantasy and sci-fi, there are options such as epic nerd camps and “camp” camps for LGBTQ adults. They are all branded as escapes for your inner child, but no musty beds and mosquitoes.

But the magic of camp social is that it’s only women.

They line up at Charcute Happy Hour on Friday. There, piles of feta and watermelon skewers, a selection of hummus and a pile of cheese cubes. (Of course, the theoretical Ken is a camp staff member, many of whom are 20-year-old men with attractive Australian accents.)

That was purposefully, as I was sitting on the grass on a Saturday morning, Schreiber told me. In 5’4″ she is a blur of energy, pulling women into the dance circle at a Friday night concert, screaming encouragement during Saturday’s Olympics, and telling campers as if they’ve known for years.

“You can just breathe and don’t have to worry about makeup or hair. You can relax and become you,” Schreiber says. “Women’s friendship is very important and very important to our souls.”

Second chance at sleepway camp

Women have come to Egypt and Colombia. Some summer campers are trying to make that nostalgia an adult, but many are first-time campers who want to live their childhood dreams as adults.

“It’s like a second chance in life,” says Lily Wong, 53, who grew up in public housing in Chinatown, Manhattan and never had the opportunity to attend camps as a child. “I feel like I’m feeding my inner child.”

I’m not a stranger to summer camp. I spent two summers at a sleepway camp in the small town of Ocononobok, Wisconsin. This is where I first learned to sail, ride, and go to the tube on the rack label. But when I entered camp as an 8th grader who was essentially elderly by camp standards, I always felt like I was clung to the edge of other people’s conversations and questioning my place in a group of friends formed several years ago.

Beyond the obvious difference, when I was a kid, there were no happy hours or bathrooms for cocktails in the cabin – this felt different. Women of all ages invite passersby to sit together for meals and join a dance circle at the Hoedown Strowdown party on Saturday nights. Everyone is asked to follow the 10-foot rule. If someone is within 10 feet, they’ll ask you the waves, the smiles, or how they’re doing.

Schreiber also grew up going to summer camp. She says she taught her how to express herself and connect with people.

“I don’t think our definition of fun needs to change as we age, while we enjoy ourselves the same way as children,” Schrieber says.

By Saturday afternoon, camp appears to be trying to fit the entire summer equivalent of activity into one packed weekend.

There are archery, mountain climbing, tie dyes, tennis, beach volleyball and line dancing. The Arts and Crafts Barn hosts rhinestone claw clips, bead bracelets and collage vision boards with equipment. There are Pilates, yoga and hiking for those who want to be active. As you approach the waterfront to set up your paddle board, you will find someone reading far away from the canoe.

“There’s a lot to do that day, so the most I have and I can’t do it all,” says Caitlyn Crislip, a 26-year-old Baltimore-based camper.

Meet your friend IRL in a post-pandemic world

At first glance, the weekend may be the worst nightmare of an introvert. But the self-proclaimed introvert I’m talking to says that this setting pushed them to meet others.

Val Gearhart, 42, arrives at a camp with a nervous butterfly in his stomach. As a stay-at-home mother who recently moved from California to Pennsylvania, she says she is struggling with loneliness.

“I miss being sociable, and at my age, I think it’s really difficult to make friends,” Gearhart says. “I haven’t felt happy about this for a long time. I hope it lasts a lifetime.”

Perhaps surprisingly, the most popular age range in camp is women in their 40s and older, and throughout the weekend you will notice that the old cabins appear to be the closest to them.

“Elder women get left behind from the conversation,” Schreiber says. “Our age limit is 21 plus, and I always say we are younger in our hearts.”

After moving to New York City in 2018, Schreiber’s passion for creating social connections came from the struggle to make friends. Camp Social is the outdoor sister brand of Hot and Social, the main venture that organizes face-to-face meetings for people in their 20s and 40s who build friendships in New York and meet romantic partners.

Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, about half of adults reported experiencing loneliness, but in the spring of 2023, former US surgeon general Vivek Murthy declared the American loneliness epidemic a public health crisis. Reports show that loneliness and social isolation can increase the risk of early death as much as smoking 15 cigarettes per day.

Create an Influencer Experience

In the age of social media, Schreiber hopes that camps will become a space where women can meet people. Despite her status as a NYC influencer with the New York Times wedding covered, the crowd is surprisingly diverse this weekend, not feeling like only content creators are being made. Still, many participants spend their time throughout the camp filming branded content.

Walking along the lake, a 61-year-old camper stops Schreiber and introduces himself. Her husband saw a post about camp socializing and suggested that she sign up. “You’re really working on something,” she tells Schreiber.

We pick up more campers when we go for walks and she leads us all towards the Silver Airstream van, which houses revolving doors of curated branded samples. That’s what she calls an influencer experience for consumers, she explains as she spoons a handful of the brand’s raspberry cough falls into the hands of a camper van.

“They’re very good, and they’re organic!” Schreiber says.

However, under the aesthetics, the bonds that women form here seem to continue. Schreiber says that 10 campers flew to become bridesmaids this year at someone’s wedding. Others attend engagement parties, baby showers and birthdays.

I’m not sure if I’ve made lifelong friends yet, but by the end of the weekend it had been added to multiple group chats and Instagram has been buzzing ever since.

Huawei Powers’ first monetization fan network

0

The roaring of 80,000 fans at Shanghai Stadium on September 21, 2025 was not just a soccer match between Shanghai Shenhua and Chengdu Longken. It was also a live demonstration where communications personnel were tackling one of the most pressing challenges.

Huawei brought international media, witnessed this implementation firsthand, and provided many of us at Press Corps with the first experience of Chinese football culture. Supporters cheered in blue and white waves, captured moments on their phones, shared videos (destroying crowd density), and China’s mobile Shanghai’s newly deployed 5G-A network monetization strategy was being tested in real time with Huawei’s GainLeap Solution and Intelligent Wireless Infrastructure.

The media section reveals the scale of the technical challenges. Allows 80,000 simultaneous users to stream, upload and trade without network degradation. This required more than extra bandwidth.

China’s Mobile Shanghai became China’s first airline to launch a differentiated 5G-A experience package, marking what industry observers see as a change in how telcos deal with revenue growth in saturated markets.

“5G-A Exclusive Package for Shenhua Football fans” is a way to translate the resilience capabilities of 5G Advanced networks into tangible value that users can recognize and pay.

The technology foundation of this 5G-A network monetization strategy relies heavily on Huawei’s technology portfolio, ranging from GainLeap solutions that identify premium subscribers to AI-powered intelligent wireless boards that optimize network performance.

Business model innovation

China Mobile Shanghai and Shanghai Shenhu Football Club partnership will offer approximately 200,000 soccer fans an annual package that combines network performance guarantees with fan-specific benefits.

Subscribers will receive 5G-A network acceleration, access to all matches via MIGU streaming services, unlimited video ring back tone downloads, and Shanghai Shenhu Football Club merchandise.

This approach to monetizing 5G-A networks deals with what China’s Mobile Shanghai identifies as an important issue for the telecommunications industry. This is a way to promote quality growth when user acquisition reaches the ceiling. Rather than competing on price or basic connections alone, packages create value through enhanced experiences in specific use cases.

The technology infrastructure behind the experience

For Shanghai Stadium, China’s Mobile Shanghai has implemented a resilient, scalable network that can handle large-scale simultaneous demand. During a match, 80,000 users access the network simultaneously, allowing 5G-A package subscribers to achieve download speeds of up to 600 Mbps.

The required technical foundation depends on Huawei’s GainLeap solution. This allows the network to identify 5G-A subscribers and assign high-speed 3cc (three-component carrier) channels. Distinguishing is key to the 5G-A network monetization model, creating measurable performance differences between standard and premium subscribers.

Behind the scenes, Huawei’s AI-powered intelligent wireless board plays a central role. Integrates onboard communications with artificial intelligence to perceive network service types, user experience goals, device characteristics, and resource status in milliseconds.

Test data provided by China Mobile Shanghai showed that QR code scan latency reduced by 47%, WeChat upload times reduced by 25%, live streaming speed increased by 27%, and high resolution video ratio increased by 11%.

Scaling infrastructure deployment

To support the high simultaneous demand during the event, China’s Mobile Shanghai and Huawei have implemented comprehensive network upgrades at their stadiums. The lower stand has received 32 new 2.6 GHz and 4.9 GHz PRRUS (passive remote radio units), more than doubled the overall network capacity. The seven escalator entrances each received a 4.9 GHz EM device, eliminating coverage dead spots.

On match day, over 40 engineers are placed onsite for real-time network monitoring and dynamic optimization. Outside the stadium, China’s Mobile Shanghai achieved continuous 5G-A coverage in areas within the ring road outside Shanghai.

A practical user experience

For the fans of the match, differentiated service has essentially emerged. High bandwidth and business-level guarantees enable rapid mobile payments for on-site drinks, snacks and souvenirs. Users can share video highlights in real time without lag, even at peak moments when thousands of fans upload data at the same time.

The ability to instantly see likes and comments from friends while still in the stadium represents an enhanced experience like China’s Mobile Shanghai bets enough value for users to pay a premium. Whether this will pay off commercially remains to be seen, but technical executions at the September 21 match showed infrastructure would provide that promise.

Impact on the industry

This initiative raises questions about the future of 5G-A network monetization strategies in the telecommunications industry. Traditional models struggle to justify the large infrastructure investment needed for 5G and later 5G advanced networks. By creating a tiered experience related to a particular user community (in this case, soccer fans), carriers may have found ways to distinguish services beyond the simple speed layer.

This approach represents a test case of how deeply integrated AI capabilities are in the network infrastructure. The ability of intelligent wireless boards to make millisecond-level decisions regarding resource allocation makes performance differentiation possible at technical scale.

China’s Mobile Shanghai goal, serving 200,000 Shenhua fans, offers a measurable benchmark to assess commercial viability.

As telecommunications companies are working globally on ways to monetize increasingly expensive network upgrades, experiments on community-specific experience-based packaging in China’s Mobile Shanghai mobile may provide insight into the evolution of the industry beyond traditional connectivity offerings.

Government shutdown hits on day 6 because it has no end: Live Update

0

The government’s closure is approaching a week, and lawmakers seem to be not approaching funding agreements.

play

The government is the sixth day of its closure on Monday, and lawmakers don’t appear to be close to agreements with federal agencies on reopening services.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump continued to blame Democrats for failing to reach fundraising contracts, and nurtured topics during the event to honor 250th October 5th, the US Navy Memorial Day in Norfolk, Virginia. The two-term Republican even assured them that service members who are currently working without paying would receive a check immediately and promise a “full” salary increase.

In Capitol Hill, minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) accused Republicans of shutting down the government rather than supporting healthcare for “hard-working American taxpayers.” As a condition of the much-needed Senate vote to fund the federal government, Democrats are asking Republicans to expand their Affordable Care Act subsidies.

Salaries have been suspended for approximately 2 million federal workers, with about 750,000 workers remaining following the progress of fundraising that began at the start of the new article year on October 1. Other tasks, such as the military and air traffic controllers, considered essential to public safety and national security, are still needed to work without wages.

According to the Public Services Partnership, the Trump administration has already reduced the federal workforce to more than 200,000 employees with more than 200,000 employees.

Attention will return to the Senate on October 6th as it was closed to enter the second week soon. Voters are expected again with the bill to reopen the government, but both measures could fail in a lack of compromise. The house is currently on a break until October 14th.

Jeffries challenges Johnson to speakers and closes floor debate to the House

Democrat House leader Hakeem Jeffries challenged House Speaker Mike Johnson to debate about government closures on the House floor.

” Given the urgency of the moment and the Republicans’ refusal to negotiate bipartisan agreements, debates on the House floor provide the people of America the transparency they deserve.” “It also gives the opportunity to explain my path and highway approach to shutting down governments when democratic votes are needed to resolve the impasse that exists.”

The House is resting this week after Johnson postponed his next vote until October 13th. The move had the effect of leaving the Senate a law that House Republicans have already passed to reopen the government until November 21st. -Bart Jansen

White House posts Jeffries Sombrero videos as shutdown drags

The White House has launched the week by trolling Democrats again, posting an apparently AI-generated video of Haquem Jeffries, a House minority leader wearing a sombrero that Democrats blew up as “racist.”

“The beginning of another week of the Democratic closure,” the White House wrote on social media when sharing the October 6 video.

The video shows Jeffries playing Mexican sombrero hat, mustache and Mariachi music in the background as Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader, stands next to him.

“There’s no way to sugar coat, there’s no one more Democrats like,” says Schumer’s fake voice.

After Jeffries called on an earlier version of video racist, Vice President JD Vance said Trump was just having fun. The White House played the video on October 1st in a loop in the Press Briefing Room.

“I think it’s funny how the president is making jokes,” Vance said. -Zac Anderson

Who do Americans blame for the government shutdown?

A CBS News/YouGov investigation shows that it has more denounced Trump and more Republicans in Congress for government shutdowns than Congressional Democrats.

Polls found that 39% of US adults believe Trump and the GOP are the most responsible, while 30% are more responsible for Democrats, with 31% both being equally responsible.

The majority – 52% – disapprove of how Trump and Republicans handle the closure, with 49% disapproving Democrats.

Only 23% believe the GOP position is worth shutting down, while 28% say Democrats’ demands are worth shutting down the government.

A survey of 2,441 adults was conducted between October 1st and October 3rd during the first three days of the closure. – Zach Anderson

Federal workers quickly miss their first pay

As government shutdowns continue, federal workers will begin to miss pay this week.

Private workers who receive the check electronically will be paid on October 10th, according to the General Services Bureau. According to Defense Finance and Accounting Services, the next salary date for military members is October 15th.

As workers become unpaid, pressure can be built to fund the government. -Zac Anderson

Trump has not been released on the October 6th schedule.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt is taking place at the 1pm media briefing.

The Senate is scheduled to vote again on October 6th at 5:30pm. However, it is unclear whether the outcome differs from the previous week’s series of failed votes.

Senate Republicans are trying to approve Republicans on the bill that approved the reopening of the government until at least November 21st. But so far, Senate Democrats have only three people in the effort, and five more will be needed to advance the bill.

Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican Sen. from Kentucky, voted against a bill aimed at reopening the government. – Bad Jansen

The Social Security Administration will continue to issue retirement and disability benefits, but it will hit 12% of staff and suspend marketing campaigns, according to agency closure plans.

Similarly, payments will continue under the Medicare and Medicaid health programs.

What are the economic impacts of government closures?

Congressional Research Services estimated that partial closures between 2018 and 2019 caused $3 billion in actual gross domestic product. Furthermore, consumer spending has decreased, affecting private businesses and profits.

The closure will delay the release of the employment report in September and other key economic data this month.

“Markets and policymakers were looking for evidence that the labor market was slowly cooling down or whether the slowdown was sharper than expected,” Bankrate senior economic analyst Mark Hamrick said in a statement to USA Today. “This fresh gap in knowledge is important at a time when clarity is most important.”

In most cases, no. Air passengers should be able to continue flights during partial government closures.

Workers screen at airport security checkpoints, give flight clearance and check in border control are considered essential, so they still need to work.

However, a group representing major US airlines warned that partial federal closures could strain American aviation and slow flights as air traffic controllers and security personnel are forced to work unpaid and other functions are halted.

Airline trading group airlines, including United, Delta, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have warned that funds will affect travelers, saying “the system will slow down and need to slow efficiency.”

Is the government still closed? What I know about Monday, October 6th.

play

The partial federal closure is now on its sixth day, with the Senate scheduled to vote for its fifth StopGap funding bill on Monday, October 6th, but there is still a shortage of the 60 votes needed to proceed.

If President Donald Trump decides that negotiations with Congressional Democrats are “all going” then the Trump administration will launch a massive layoff of federal workers, a White House official told Reuters on Sunday, October 5th.

When asked by a reporter when the administration began firing federal workers, the president replied, “It’s happening now.”

What do you see here as the shutdown enters day 6?

Is the federal government still closed?

Yes, the federal government remains partially closed.

Salaries have been suspended for around 2 million federal workers, around 750,000 have been ordered not to work, and others, such as troops and air traffic controllers, will have to work without compensation until they reach a budget contract.

Senate Democrats are not only calling for a permanent extension of federal grants to help people provide health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, but they also ensure that the White House respects the deal.

Senate majority leader John Toon said he is willing to address Democrats’ concerns but must first agree to reopen the federal government.

Trump spoke about his desire to reform the ACA, also known as Obamacare.

“We want to fix it just like we want to fix it. Obamacare was a disaster for people, so we hope it will be fixed and work,” the president said.

What about Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid?

The Social Security Administration will continue to issue retirement and disability benefits, but it will hit 12% of staff and suspend marketing campaigns, according to agency closure plans.

Similarly, payments will continue under the Medicare and Medicaid health programs.

Will food aid continue under SNAP and WIC?

According to a closure planning plan document issued by the US Department of Agriculture, special supplementary nutrition programs for women, infants and children known as WIC, and special supplementary nutrition programs for women, infants and children known as WIC, will continue with special supplementary nutrition programs known as WIC, and special supplementary nutrition programs for women, infants and children.

Will US email be sent?

USPS said in a statement that the USPS would not be affected because it does not rely on Congress. The post office is open.

How about the airport?

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, more than 13,000 air traffic controllers will continue to work unpaid until the closure ends. Most TSA employees will continue to work, according to the agency’s statement.

What does shutdown mean to the military?

Based on an executive order from Trump, the newly appointed War Department statement reveals that 2 million US military personnel will remain unpaid until the closure ends, but officially the Department of Defense unless Congress officially changes his name.

The National Guard that Trump deployed in American cities must also continue to work.

What about law enforcement, borders, and homeland security?

Agents from the FBI, Drug Enforcement Bureau, the Coast Guard and other federal law enforcement agencies will continue to work.

Department of Justice staff administering the immigration court system will mostly remain at work, as Trump declared illegal immigration as a national emergency.

According to the Department of Homeland Security’s closure strategy, Border Patrol and immigration enforcement agents, like most customs officials, will remain in their posts.

Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to three scientists for immune detection

American scientists Mary Blankku, Fred Ramsdell and Japan’s Satoshima Shimojima were awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

play

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – American scientists Mary Blank, Fred Ramsdell and Sakaguchi Island in Japan won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine on Monday for their discovery to control the immune system, creating an opening for new autoimmune diseases and cancer treatments.

Marie Warren Herrennius, professor of rheumatism at the Karolinska Institute, said:

Sakaguchi told reporters outside the university’s lab, “I feel that’s an incredible honor.”

T cells: “security guard” for the immune system

The medical recipients will receive the prize money for the Swedish crown and the gold medal presented by the Swedish king, selected by the Nobel Parliament of the Karolinska Institute Medical University.

Brunkow is Senior Program Manager at the Institute of Systems Biology in Seattle, and Ramsdell is a scientific advisor and co-founded at Sonoma Biotherapeutics in San Francisco. Sakaguchi is a professor at Osaka University in Japan.

“Their discoveries laid the foundation for new research areas and encouraged the development of new treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases, for example,” the award-winning organization said in a statement.

The winners identified so-called regulatory T cells that prevent the immune system security guard from attacking their bodies.

After announcing the winners, Institute’s Thomas Perman said that while certain treatments have yet to achieve market clearance, more than 200 human trials, including regulatory T cells, are ongoing for diseases ranging from cancer types to inflammatory bowel disease.

Perman said he could only break the news for one of the three.

“He sounded incredibly grateful and it was a great honor and he expressed that he was completely taken away by the news,” Perlmann added.

Nobel Season Best Award

The Nobel Prize was founded through the will of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor and wealthy businessman of dynamite. They have been awarded since 1901 for their remarkable contributions to science, literature and peace, primarily suspended during the World War.

The Economic Award was added later and funded by Riksbank, the Swedish central bank.

The winners are selected by expert committees of various institutions. All awards will be awarded in Stockholm, except for the Peace Prize, which was announced in Oslo.

Past recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine include well-known scientists such as Alexander Fleming, who shared the 1945 award for the discovery of penicillin. In recent years, the award recognizes major breakthroughs, including those that have enabled the development of Covid-19 vaccines.

Last year’s Medical Awards were awarded by scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Lebukun for their crucial roles in the discovery of microRNAs and how multicellular organisms grow and lively, helping to explain how cells specialize in different types.

According to tradition, the award for the award has launched the annual Nobel, perhaps the most prestigious award in science, literature, peace and economics, with the rest being announced over the next few days.

More than a century after their inception, the Nobel Prize has ingrained in tradition. The award culminated in a ceremony attended by Swedish and Norwegian royals, and was held on December 10th – the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel.

Buy now and willing to use it later on holidays, according to research

0

play

According to a new PayPal survey, with the holiday gift buying season approaching, particularly with shoppers getting more worried about rising prices and financial stress, more shoppers are accepting to buy now and pay their subsequent loans. USA Today was the first to view the investigation exclusively.

When the calendar turned to holidays, 60% of participants said they were experiencing more financial stress in a survey by PayPal’s Talker Research.

“Around 80% of shoppers who used or considered BNPL will be available for holiday shopping this year, making it practically a mainstream option at this point,” Michelle Gill, PayPal’s general manager of small business and financial services, told USA Today.

Are you buying now or paying for a later loan?

BNPL offers shoppers the option to pay installment purchases. There is usually no interest, minimal interest, hard credit checks, or no proximity approvals.

Shoppers can use services such as Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, and Paypal as options to pay when checking out during online purchases. Some credit cards also offer similar options, such as Chase Freedom cards. Depending on the size of the purchase and the company’s product, shoppers can choose the number of payments, how often they will occur, and the fees they are willing to pay. The BNPL model allows shoppers to open multiple loans that open the same provider or different providers at once.

Earlier this year, FICO said it will begin factoring BNPL loans with people’s credit scores starting in fall 2025. Some BNPL providers, such as AFFIRM and Klarna, have reported their activities to the credit department previously reported by USA Today. However, not all BNPL providers need to report their activity. PayPal has not reported BNPL loans to the credit department, Gill said.

Younger generations use BNPL more

The younger generation appears to be the most common adopters of digital BNPL loans, USA Today has previously reported.

According to a June Bank of America report, Z and millennials appear to be using more BNPL, with about 10% of each generation taking advantage of them. This follows a period of three years of slower use after the increasing popularity of the digital BNPL platform.

“For some people, it’s convenient, but perhaps they’re a bit financially stressed, so some people reach out for it,” David Tinsley, senior economist at the Bank of America Institute, previously told USA Today.

BNPL loans help consumers make bigger purchases

Thane Armbruster, 32, 32, of St. Joseph, Missouri, uses a variety of BNPL products to purchase both personal and work items.

Armbruster was able to use the BNPL program, which offered 0% interest, without having to undergo a credit check at the time of purchase. He has paid back four BNPL loans that are not interested in phones, laptops and software, and has BNPL loans for some furniture and another phone.

Three years ago, Armbruster laptops needed repairs and were covered by warranty, but due to supply chain issues, the portion was unavailable for several months. Armbruster needed a laptop. He used the BNPL 0% interest program to buy a $2,000 laptop.

“Buy now and pay later, I could have paid more to get something that follows me where there was no need to be confused or replace it in a short period of time,” he said.

PayPal introduces some new options

PayPal currently has two BNPL options: This is a payment with four options. This will charge you four biweekly payments without interest, monthly payment options for larger payments, and purchase options up to $10,000 for 3 to 24 months.

PayPal introduces two promotions on holidays. Customers will earn 5% cashback on PayPal BNPL purchases from October 6th to the end of the year. PayPal also offers PayPal monthly for in-store purchases. Gill said customers can use that option via the PayPal app. Other BNPL services, such as Klarna and Affirm, also use the app to provide in-store options.

Israeli negotiator Hamas meets for Gaza talks in Egypt

0

play

SHAM EL SHEIKH, Egypt/Cairo/Dubai, October 6 (Reuters) – Hamas officials on Monday hope that the US will stop the war in Gaza and bring the release of hostages despite controversial issues like disarming Palestinian militant groups under Don Trump’s plan, prior to talks with Israel.

Israeli negotiators were scheduled to travel to Egypt’s Red Sea resort later that day for discussions on releasing hostages, part of the US president’s 20-point blueprint to end the two-year-old conflict.

The Israeli delegation includes staff from spy agencies Mossad and Singh Bett, Ophiel Faul, foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Gal Hirsch, hostage coordinator.

However, three Israeli officials said Israeli chief negotiator, Strategy Minister Ron Dahmer, was scheduled to take part only later this week. A spokesman for Dahmer and the Prime Minister did not immediately comment.

Hamas’ delegation is led by the group’s exiled Gaza leader, Khalil al-Hayya. Khalil al-Khaiyah’s first visit to Egypt has been made since surviving an Israeli airstrike in Qatar’s capital Doha last month.

Negotiators from Hamas are seeking clarity for the exchange of remaining hostages (living and dead) for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel and Israeli military withdrawal and halt, according to a statement released Sunday by the Islamist group.

The troublesome issue reverberates in Israel’s plans, and insists that the group will not happen unless Israel ends its occupation and a Palestinian state is created, Hamas sources told Reuters.

Netanyahu, an internationally isolated country over the devastation of Gaza, rebels against the Western countries that have recognised Palestinian independence, saying that a Palestinian state would never happen.

Consultation officials told Reuters they expect the round of talk to kickoff Monday to be not quick.

“The negotiations won’t last for at least a few days. There’s probably no quick agreement as it’s about agreeing to all the details and comprehensive deals that took place before the ceasefire took place,” he said.

“Hamas and Israel have agreed to the basis of the Trump 20-point plan. The next phase or phase of the consultation is designed to address certain details that have been a long process in the past.”

Previously, the mediator secured an agreement in the first phase and left the neighbours to be negotiated later, but the entire process only collapsed in a short order.

Mediators have a long list of difficult issues to agree to Israel and Hamas. From logistics like logistics and timelines for the withdrawal of Israeli forces within Gaza to the fine prints of Gaza Governance from Hamas and the formation of an international stabilisation force envisaged as part of Trump’s plan, officials said.

Trump was optimistic. “I’ve been told I should complete the first phase this week and I’m asking everyone to move fast,” he said in a social media post.

The first stage deals with the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. There are 48 hostages remaining in Gaza, 20 of which are alive.

Trump’s plan is still the longest and most advanced effort to stop the most destructive war ever in a generation of conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Hamas approved the hostage release and several other elements of Trump’s plan on Friday, but avoided more contested points, including a call to disarm and abandon Gaza’s political power.

Trump welcomed Hamas’ response and told Israel to stop the bombing of Gaza.

Avoid a step-by-step approach

The plan sparked hope for peace among the Palestinians, but there was no disappointment from Israel’s attack on Gaza.

Domestically, Netanyahu is caught between increasing pressure to end the war (from hostage families and war-tiring publics), and argues that demands from the super-nationalist members of his coalition should not be forfeited by the efforts to annihilate Hama.

Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that quitting military operations on X would be a “significant mistake.” He and security minister Itamar Ben Gwil threatened to overthrow the Netanyahu government if the war ended.

But Ia Rapid, the opposition leader of the centre-dominated Yesid Party, said Trump’s initiative would be successful and political cover would be provided to “we don’t let them torpedo the deal.”

Israel launched Israel after a Hamas-led attack on Israel, followed by a Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, when most civilians were killed and 251 people were taken hostage.

The Israeli campaign killed more than 67,000 people in Gaza. Most of them are civilians, Gaza health officials say, and were wasted on the populated coastal enclave.

Americans, Canadians are looking at past tariffs to rekindle travel bonds

0

play

  • Political tensions and tariffs previously caused flooding of tourism between the US and Canada.
  • Canadians are now emphasizing that American tourists are welcome and are trying to correct relationships.

Jasper, Alberta – Canadians have their arms open wide and the travel industry is ready to embrace it.

Almost a year after President Donald Trump suggested that our north neighbours became the 51st state, tariffs were put in place and wider anti-American tourism, Canadians are ready to move on.

“We’re really good friends, good neighbors, we’re family and our feelings have been pretty hurt,” Gloria Lauren, Chief Marketing Officer of the destination, told USA Today. “You’re certainly ‘upright elbows’, but I didn’t feel that right. …I think Canadians are very confident in their prime minister right now. There is a stable hand there.

Between the devastating fire ash and the pristine waters of Jasper National Park, the Canadian destination welcomed journalists and media experts from around the world last month and was able to meet representatives from cities and provinces across Canada. The biennial event is intended to taste Canadian offerings. This year, more likely than in the past, Canadians want the world – the US in particular knows they are welcome.

Travel flow and spending is still unstable

At the height of tension, tourism was soaked in both ways.

The US Travel Association predicts that total inbound travel expenses in the US will fall 3.2% per year to $173 billion per year. The organization said “significantly fewer visits from Canada is a major factor in this decline,” but visits from other countries are expected to remain flat.

For the first six months of 2025, international visitors spent $126.9 billion on US travel and tourism-related goods and services, according to the US Bureau of International Trade.

Canadians continue to be one of the most loyal inbound markets in the United States. According to the American Travel Association, around 20 million Canadians visited the United States in 2024, generating $20.5 billion in spending. Despite concerns about gun violence, medical costs and currency fluctuations, shopping trips, snowbird escapes, and cultural tourism remain strong motivators.

“That’s rarely a specific reason when it comes to the intentions of the visit,” Laureen said. “It’s this interesting response, this loyalty that citizens have their economy and their own vitality, that is what they consider to be loyal to Canada, their economy.

American travelers donated CAD 12.9 billion (approximately US$9.2 billion) in 2023, becoming the most important international market for Canada’s tourism economy, generating $28.9 billion that same year.

Perception is important

Industry leaders say perception is a major barrier. The border has resumed and political tensions are refrigerated, but travelers are still asking if they feel welcome.

“We were in New York in August, and I was meeting with various US-based PR agencies, and each identified the main barriers and concerns about whether Americans feel welcome in Canada. “And that’s not an unusual (feeling) because when I was backpacking Europe, I would hear the Texas accent and see the Canadian flag on their backpacks.”

Tonikary, owner and operator of Moratorium Tours & Retreat in Conchet, Newfoundland, repeated the feeling and noted that she felt a political headwind in the state.

“During our Prime Booking window (January to March), talk of tariffs and trade tensions weakened American interest. Some conversations that revealed an unpleasant theme. “Even though there’s a sense of security that we value American guests so deeply…hesitating has lasted. From what I’ve seen, many Canadians consider our price range luxury, but Americans benefit from the exchange rates, recognize the packaging as medium range and match the authentic value we offer.”

Highly valuable visitors to promote growth

Laureen added that Canada is also seeing an increase in what officials call “very enthusiastic guests” – those who spend more and stay longer. “The number of highly enthusiastic guests is up 15% year-on-year,” she said, pointing to the growth of culinary tourism, outdoor adventures and Indigenous-led experiences.

For her, Kearney has seen her relieve tension.

“We have seen American travelers return later this year to extend the fall season. But we want Americans to know this. You are welcome here, regardless of your faith, political views or race,” she added. “We love hosting you in (the city of conché) and showing your hometown to the world. They’re all welcome here. And frankly, our economy needs you.”

For both sides, it’s more than economics. It’s about reestablishing years of connections with our neighbors.

“It’s … our parents may be fighting, but our kids are cool,” added Laureen. “And they are our friends, they are our neighbors and other ways.”

The monopoly officially returned to McDonald’s after a decade of absence.

French Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorne quits

PARIS, October 6 (Reuters) – France’s new Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorne resigned on Monday, just 14 hours after alliances and enemies appointed his new cabinet after threatening to defeat his government as well, defeat French stocks and the euro would drop significantly.

His swift resignation was unexpected and unprecedented, with another major depth in the French political crisis in mind.

The far-right National Rally prompted President Emmanuel Macron to immediately call on President Emmanuel Macron to snap a parliamentary election.

After weeks of consultation with the full party, Macron’s close ally, Lecorne, appointed a minister on Sunday and was scheduled to hold its first meeting on Monday afternoon.

However, the new cabinet lineup was angering enemies and allies. He discovered that the right was too right or not enough, raising doubts when France was already deeply plagued by a political crisis when it had not held a majority in fragmented parliament.

Lecorne handed Macron his resignation Monday morning.

“Sebastian Recorne has submitted his resignation of his government to the President of the Republic, who accepted it,” the Elicie news agency said.

French politics have become increasingly unstable since Macron was re-elected in 2022 due to a lack of parties that holds a majority in all political parties and parliament.

Macron’s decision to call last year’s Snap Congressional elections deepened the crisis by creating more fragmented parliament. Lecorne, who was appointed only last month, was Macron’s fifth prime minister in two years.

“Without a poll or the dissolution of the Parliament, we cannot return to stability,” said National Group Leader Jordan Bardera after Lecorne resigned.

Eagles, Bills lose their first game and challengers rise

  • Philadelphia’s defeat to Denver left one NFL team with a perfect record for around seven hours.
  • Conversely, only one team won’t win in 2025.
  • Sunday featured one great game in terms of points scored and uniforms worn.

32 things we learned from the fifth week of the 2025 NFL season:

0. New York Jets rookie coach Aarong Len was embarrassing Aarong Len at home 37-22 on Sunday. With Kellen Moore’s New Orleans Saints off the mat against the New York Giants, Glenn is the only coach of the first year of the year of the year, and his team is now the only league-wide in a league that has not won.

1. Who is the first contender to win the Super Bowl 60 after defending champion Philadelphia Eagles lost their first game on Sunday? Given the number of questions around the league, it seems like an unusually large field at the moment, so let’s explore it.

2. Like the number of losses Philly has suffered over the past 365 days. The Eagles are clearly continuing to be a genuine championship threat, but there are also issues to fix, especially during attacks. WR AJ Brown had another quiet game (5 catches for 43 yards) on Sunday, and even RB Saquon Barkley undermined Philadelphia. On the day he rushed to 30 yards (only six carry), Berkley committed an illegal shift violation in the fourth quarter, nullifying his fourth conversion and forced his team to punt penultimate possession.

2a. Even if the icy “cold front” uniforms can’t get close to the championship ice at the end of the season, the bill will remain right there. The skies haven’t fallen in western New York, but the New England Patriots victory on Sunday night was a clear announcement that the Eastern AFC probably won’t be a walkover. For changes.

3. The Denver Broncos’ victory counts that beat the Eagles on Sunday for their first victory in Philadelphia since 1986. This is two impressive wins in six days for Denver.

4. Number of first-team All-Poss in 2024, including QB Lamar Jackson, for the Spiral Baltimore Ravens who were crushed 44-10 at home by the Houston Texans. 1-4, their Super Bowl aspirations in a serious crisis, the Ravens have reached a severely needed week since they faced the Rams in week six.

5. The 34-point loss coincided with the Ravens’ biggest Ravens in Baltimore. The differential also rivals the Texans’ most biased road victory in 24 seasons of history.

6. Red zone touchdown count – six attempts and below that, the Indianapolis Colts scored a 40-6 beatdown for the Las Vegas Raiders. While it still feels like a stretch to see Indy as a genuine championship competitor, the 4-1 team is increasingly taking over the look of the Titleist in the potential division.

7. In that strange turn of events, the Colts played most of the day without an injured K-Spencer Schrader, and were forced to try four consecutive two-point conversions with a punk. Meanwhile, the Raiders lost P AJ Cole and relegated K Daniel Carlson to his role.

8. The number of times the Texans scored in Baltimore coincided with the number of drives played by QB CJ Stroud. Following a 0-3 start, Houston has reappeared as a team that can win three consecutive division titles.

9. The match on the day also featured the best (splitting) uniforms of the day. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Seattle Seahawks with guns 38-35 in a perfect celebration of two organizations in the middle of their 50th NFL season. Was it a preview of the NFC Championship Game? Despite Seattle’s amazing defensive disappointment, it’s very well within the realm of possibilities.

10. No one of the Bucs has blown up. In the final minute of regulation, four victories occurred with the scores that were won in the game. This has never been done by a team before reaching their first four wins. Perennial NFC South Camp remains a resilient bunch that can beat you in a variety of ways.

11. What about the first round wideout matchup from former Ohio State in Seattle on Sunday? Bucs’ (née Bucks’) Emeka Egbuka and Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba were combined with 15 catches, 295 yards, and TD.

12. Cowboys (who mainly wear white) and Jet (who mainly wear black) provided the worst game of the day, visually and stylistically (21 penalties).

13. How crazy have you scored so far? There have been 14 40 burgers posted this season, already the most common in five weeks since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, and the fifth week has not yet been performed.

14. He always ranked 14th in 173 regular season victories. That’s where Denver’s coach Sean Payton stands after Sunday’s victory, breaking down his relationship with his mentor, Hall of Fame Bill Purcells.

15. Payton is currently deadlocked with Jeff Fisher and Ravens manager John Harbaugh. John Harbaugh’s team doesn’t seem to be in step with the Payton Broncos anyway, not in the near future. Mike McCarthy is in 13th place – so far – alone with 174 wins.

16. How about Carolina Panthers RB Rico Dowl sprinted through a season-high 206 yards in the league-wide season, saving starter Tuba Hubbard on Sunday, injured in the team’s 27-24 Miami Dolphins loss?

17. The Cowboys either didn’t re-sign the Dowdle, which ran for nearly 1,100 yards last year, or are swaying that other teams don’t think even $3 million is worthy of offering him in 2025 (although he can celebrate that number by reaching a certain escalator). Heck, even Jerry Jones would be happy to pay for it.

18. A jersey number that could potentially retire one day for Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson. “Jettas” currently has 7,881 in his career, earning 123 yards in the Cleveland Browns’ defeat in London on Sunday. And he still plays 12 games for 50 years to overtake Randymos’ standard (8,375 yards).

19. The Los Angeles charger may have lost juice recently, but don’t blame veteran WR Keenan Allen. He appeared in his 159th career and won his 1,000th career catch. He’s eight games faster than Hall of Fame Marvin Harrison.

20. With the exception of both offensive tackles, Bolt appears to be returning to the title presenter.

twenty one. The Chargers’ defeat was courtesy of Washington’s commander, who has QB Jayden Daniels back in the lineup. However, the emergence of rookie RB Jacoley “Bill” Crosskey Merritt, who had a career career that spent Sunday’s career day, could be key to returning the commanders to the league’s elite trunks with 150 yards and two TDs from scrimmage.

twenty two. Will the Cincinnati Bengals just be trading for Giants QB3 Jameis Winston?

twenty three. But it’s not really surprising that Jake Browning-led stripes couldn’t handle the Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions have an increasingly strong case of being replaced by Philadelphia above the league’s throne, with a four-game heater that erases memories of Green Bay’s first flop.

twenty four. Detroit won TDS from RBS Yummy Gibbs and David Montgomery on Sunday. Both won their 14th in the same game, scoring Super Bowl-era touchdowns for Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston in the most games of their RB teammates (1966).

twenty five. The Los Angeles Rams didn’t win Thursday, but WR Pukanakua caught 10 balls and gave 52 receptions by players 52 after the game. Nacua bypassed former teammate Cooper Kupp, who had 49 gloves at the same time in 2022.

26. These may be early stages that could be a historic year for NACUA, paced 177 balls. This would break the NFL singleseason record (149) established by Michael Thomas six years ago (16 games). The Nacua could also become the first ever 2,000-yard receiver. He is currently at a pace of 1,999 yards.

27. Dillon Gabriel has become the Cleveland Browns’ 41st QB1 since its revival in 1999, but has made his first debut in the NFL in an international series game. He was a solid Sunday in London, but he didn’t do enough to lead Cleveland past the Minnesota Vikings.

28. Meanwhile, the bikes have always improved to 5-0 in London… They’ve been on a 0-1 record in Dublin, washing away a two-week European vacation.

29. However, Minnesota made history in 25 seconds thanks to a TD catch that is beating WR Jordan Addison’s game. This victory was played internationally for the first time, featuring a decisive TD in the final minute of regulation or overtime.

30. Do NFL players, especially those running freely, learn to learn to secure the ball until they cross the goal line? The Arizona Cardinals RB3 Emari De Mercado really needed him to show up after causing James Connor and Trabenson to get injured, but it was the latest to throw the Rock out early.

31. Lastly, but not penalty time, we would like to congratulate Titans QB Comeward, the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. We’ll suspend.

32. Finally, congratulations to Saint QB Spencer Latler. We have taken note of multiple bagels he has been carrying in his personal NFL Win column for over a year. However, he won his first in his 11th professional start, with the Giants’ defeat on Sunday.

President Trump calls on Jay Jones to drop out of Virginia’s AG race

0

President Donald Trump called for him to drop out of the race after Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones reported Jones’ text in 2022, and then the former Virginia House Speaker suggested that “two bullets in his head” should be released.

“If Jay Jones, the great Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and the running radical left-mad man crazy gelding, joking, if it’s not funny,” Trump wrote on October 5th of the Truth Society.”

Trump added that Jones should “quickly” drop out of the race and approve Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyarez in the process.

Republican Rep. Carrie Coiner shared a reported screenshot of a conversation with Jones on August 8, 2022, where she admitted that they were mistakenly sent to her. In an email to Progress-Index, part of the USA Today Network, Coyner called the message “not only get in the way, it’s disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office.”

“Jay Jones wanted violence on his fellow children and made a joke about shooting (former speaker) Todd Gilbert, which is something civil servants aren’t tired of,” Coiner said in a statement.

The message first reported by the Conservative Media Outlet National Review comes after a vote made days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. It turns out that most Americans believe that blush political rhetoric contributes to violence. She attacks her husband with a hammer at the home of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

What did the message say, reportedly?

According to a screenshot in the text, Jones appears to have been clearly upset by comments attributed to Gilbert about the death of a Democratic representative. Jones accused his representative of leaking information about Virginia House Democrats to the House Republican Caucus.

He initially apologized for accidentally sending a message to Coiner, but later ranted in a rumour comparing Gilbert to former world dictators Adolf Hitler and Polpot. He reportedly mentioned that he wanted to shoot all three of them.

“Three, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, Polpot,” he texted. “Gilbert gets two bullets in his head.”

In a campaign statement, Jones admitted, “Like everyone, I sent a text message that I regret.” He reiterated that “violent rhetoric has no place in our politics.” He accused incumbent Republican Jason Miyar of “dropping the smear” through a media outlet that is beneficial to Trump and Republicans.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger issued a statement saying she spoke “candidly” with Jones about the message.

“After learning about these comments early today, I texted Jay and honestly, disgusted by what he said,” she said. “I made it clear to Jay that he must be fully responsible for his words, and what I have made is to condemn violent words in our politics as a candidate and as our next governor of our Commonwealth.”

She did not take Tylenol. Anyway, I’ve been diagnosed with autism.

Autism is a topic Brittany Slouter cares deeply about. All three children ages 11, 12, 13 – 13 have clinical names for a condition called autism spectrum disorder, or autism. Her two daughters, who have ASD level 3, say they are nonverbal and require lifelong care for their basic needs.

So, when her 37-year-old Pennsylvania mother heard a White House press conference, she coordinated that President Donald Trump had made a promise a few days before he revealed his “answer to autism.”

She calls the president’s “answer” – the pregnant Tylenol – “to bring her to life.”

Slaughter says he never took Tylenol during his pregnancy. Nor were other mothers of children with autism expressing similar disappointment at the president’s remarks. “I have five autistic babies and I know the truth. “I never took Tylenol or acetaminophen when I was pregnant,” another wrote. “Nothing caused this. He was born from it.”

“We’ve come so far since our kids were diagnosed 12 years ago. We’re making the space more inclusive and not letting our autistic minds fear,” Slawter says.

In Slawter’s view, all of this press conference was primarily about putting moms accountable for something that appears to remain outside their control.

“I didn’t take Tylenol. I was very wary of caring for myself,” she says. “I really feel that for my parents it was a slap in my face.”

What does science say about the use of Tylenol during pregnancy?

Trump’s announcement was vowed by Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who vowed to find the cause of the rise in autism incidents by September 2025.

“We’re going to make an autism announcement on Monday,” Trump said on September 20 at a dinner hosted by the conservative American Foundation Stone Institute. “I think it’s going to be a very important announcement. I think it will be one of the most important things we do.”

Trump reflected these feelings the following day at a memorial rally for murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk. “I think you think it’s amazing,” Trump said at the rally. “I think we’ve found the answer to autism.”

Acetaminophen, often sold under the brand name Tylenol, has long been considered the safest option for managing headaches, fever and other pains during pregnancy. According to the Maternal and Fetal Medicine Association, a large survey has reported that between 40% and 65% of pregnant women use acetaminophen at some point during their pregnancy.

Decades of research have not provided a solid answer on what contributes to autism, but many scientists believe that genetics plays a potential role in combination with environmental influences. They also say that the increased incidence of autism can be attributed to increased access to diagnostic tools and improved early detection.

A report published in BMC Environmental Health found that a large study with over 100,000 participants tended to find a link between acetaminophen use and neurodevelopmental disorders during pregnancy. More than 20 studies around the world have shown that frequent use of acetaminophen during pregnancy is associated with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. However, some studies have also found competing evidence.

A 2024 study in Sweden found that over 180,000 children who were exposed to acetaminophen during pregnancy had no association between painkillers and the risk of children with autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability.

Some researchers say the data is not too cut and dry. Many health conditions that cause pain and fever, commonly treated with Tylenol, are also associated with an increased risk of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. For example, a 2024 Swedish study found that parents who “have high acetaminophen” tend to have an increased diagnosis of psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disorders, and are more likely to inhale other medications or take other medications.

The way Slawter sees it, the cause of autism remains almost mystical, and perhaps has no single answer.

“He said he had a cause by September, so they figured out what they could find,” she says. “So many moms say, ‘I’ve never taken Tylenol and I have multiple kids on the spectrum.’ So when I heard it, it felt almost hilarious. ”

“They are amazing little people.”

Many parents of children with autism already feel that enough guilt. I wonder if many people have done something wrong. Many people wonder if there is something they can do differently.

The government’s discourse about Tylenol, which she worries about, may exacerbate this.

“I found it harmful,” she says. “Hearing his press conference, he says, ‘Make it difficult, don’t take it.’ It feels like it creates fear in women. ”

As a mother to three autistic children, Slaughter says she wants everything for more research, science and understanding of the causes of autism.

But equally important to her is finding ways for children with autism to flourish in adulthood. Educating others about how to talk about autism, she says.

In the meantime, Slaughter, who is married this weekend, looks forward to continuing to look after his children and family. Her goal is to ensure that her children do not lose sight of their worth.

“I don’t want my kids to feel this scary thing,” Slaughter said. “They are amazing little people.”
