Lane Kiffin LSU contract, salary details after becoming Tigers coach

Months of college football melodrama came to a long-awaited end yesterday, with Lane Kiffin announcing he would be leaving Mississippi State for SEC rival LSU.

Kiffin has become the centerpiece of a busy and sometimes unpredictable 2025 coaching merry-go-round, with the University of Florida and LSU and his current employer all vying for his services.

In the end, he chose the Tigers, firing Brian Kelly eight games into his fourth season at the school.

Kiffin has turned the Rebels into a consistent national powerhouse, going 32-6 over the past three seasons. This year, Ole Miss went 11-1, setting a program record for regular-season wins, and is widely expected to advance to the 12-team College Football Playoff field.

To take Kiffin out of a good situation, LSU had to pay a price, to say the least.

According to USA TODAY’s Daily Advertiser, Kiffin signed a seven-year contract with the Tigers worth $91 million. Here’s what you need to know about Kiffin’s reported contract details and salary at LSU.

Lane Kiffin LSU contract, salary details

  • length: 7 years
  • Total contract money: $91 million
  • Annual average value (AAV): $13 million

Kiffin will earn an average annual salary of $13 million, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Only Georgia’s Kirby Smart earned more for the 2024 season, at $13.28 million, according to USA TODAY Sports’ coaches salary database.

That’s a significant increase from the $9 million Kiffin earned at Ole Miss, making him the 10th highest-paid coach in college football, along with Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz, Tennessee’s Josh Heupel and Kentucky’s Mark Stoops.

If Kiffin wins a national title at LSU, his salary will automatically increase, making him the highest-paid coach in the country.

In perhaps the most interesting development of the deal, LSU agreed to pay Kiffin a postseason bonus despite not coaching Ole Miss in the playoffs. That means he could earn up to $1 million if the Rebels win the national championship.

Lane Kiffin LSU Acquisition

If Kiffin is terminated by LSU without cause during the term of his contract, he will be obligated to pay 80% of his remaining salary, according to a term sheet obtained by the Lafayette Daily Advertiser.

The acquisition proceeds will be paid in monthly installments for the remainder of the transaction. Additionally, there are no mitigation or offset provisions in the event Mr. Kiffin takes another job after being fired. The buyout terms are particularly noteworthy after Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry decried long-term coaching contracts with $54 million buyouts in a press conference shortly after Kelly’s firing.

“Currently, we are $53 million in debt,” Landry said. “We don’t do that anymore. And what? I believe we’ll find a great coach. We might even get President (Donald) Trump to pick him. He loves winners. I’m not going to pick the next coach, but… , I can promise you, we’re going to choose our coaches, we’re going to make sure they’re successful, we’re going to make sure they’re compensated appropriately, and we’re going to put metrics on that, because I’m tired of rewarding failure in this country. ”

Lane Kiffin Records

Kiffin went 117-53 in 14 years as a college head coach, going 7-6 in one year at Tennessee, 28-15 in four years at Southern California, 27-13 in three years at Florida Atlantic University and 55-19 in six years at Ole Miss.

What preparations should I make when storing my car? ask your car doctor

  • To properly store your vehicle for long periods of time, you must use a battery tender and fuel stabilizer.
  • The cost of a Bentley oil change can range from $500 to $700 since it requires a lot of premium synthetic oil.
  • Replacing parts such as caliper mounts may be more cost effective than repairing them due to labor costs.

question: I accepted your suggestion and purchased a battery tender for my 2019 Acura RDX. Can I use a clamp to connect the leads directly to the battery? What else should I do to the car? Stored in an unheated garage for 6 months.

answer: It is okay to connect the charger leads directly to the battery. An even better solution is to use direct connect leads. These are fuse protected and connect directly to the battery, making them easy to connect.

Basics of vehicle storage

  • Add fuel stabilizer (STABIL is 1) then fill the gas tank. This will help keep the fuel fresh.
  • I personally prefer to store my car with fresh oil changes and maximum inflation in the tires, as they lose air over time.
  • Place a container of DampRid or other moisture absorbent in a disposable pan in your car.
  • Keep windows open so the room can breathe.
  • Remove the key and store it away from the car.
  • In addition to washing and waxing your car, it’s a good idea to cover your car even in the garage to protect the paint.
  • If you think critters might get in, remove all food (even bird seed) from your garage and block any potential entry points. Rats can easily fit through holes as small as a dime.

Honda Accord’s infotainment screen is strange

question: My 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport (purchased new in November 2022) was fine until July 2025 when the poltergeist occurred. Apps on the infotainment screen started jumping around on their own. When you turn on the radio, the app switches to your phone and then to your watch. When I turned off the radio, it would sometimes turn back on. In some cases, physical buttons did not change settings.

I took it to the Honda dealer. They couldn’t find anything wrong, but replaced the touchscreen per Honda’s service recommendations. This worked for 10 days, but it happened again.

When I brought it in and investigated, I was told that the dealer didn’t find any problems, but that the Honda corporation was aware of the problem.

So I contacted Honda and they provided me with the incident number and extensive investigation. Their response was that they were investigating. Electronics/computers come with a 7 year extended warranty. Are you aware of this problem? How can I solve it?

answer: My first thought was to do exactly what Honda did, replace the touchscreen. However, there may still be a problem with the replacement part, module, or wiring.

Unfortunately, you may have to wait until the problem becomes more consistent or until Honda makes a fix based on other failures nationwide.

As a technician, it can be very difficult to fix something that has an intermittent failure. It’s a pain, but at least the electronics have a warranty until 2029.

Bentley oil change cost $400 – did I charge too much?

question: I recently had my 2009 Bentley serviced by the same mechanic I use on my wife’s Mercedes. Never had a problem.

The oil change on my Bentley cost over $400. Needless to say, I was a little surprised.

The mechanic used 14 quarts of premium oil at a very high cost. Once again I was charged an exorbitant 1 hour service fee. When I asked him why, he replied, “Because it’s a Bentley.”

In your opinion, is this correct? Is there any way to do it?

answer: The W12 engine uses 13.4 quarts of oil. This is correct. There is not much service information in the aftermarket for Bentley cars. Bentley is also not listed in AllData, Mitchell, or Motors manuals.

Yes, Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil is the recommended choice for an oil change on all Bentley models. Retail/over-the-counter prices for Mobil 1 oil range from $12 to $16 per quart.

Here’s what I found after searching various Bentley dealer websites online. “An oil change is one of the most important services for any vehicle, and your Bentley is no exception. However, Bentley oil changes cost more than average because it requires high-performance synthetic oil and premium filters. Expect to pay between $500 and $700 for a Bentley oil change.”

Looks like you saved $100.

Do I need to adjust the valve when replacing the cover gasket?

question: I am the proud original owner of a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro pace car replica with a 350 cubic inch, 300 horsepower engine. Although we can’t do driveway maintenance anymore, there are good shops that will service your car. The valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to adjust the valve at this timing.

answer: This falls into a category that is safe to check. If the engine is quiet, there is probably no problem.

Unless the engine is modified, this is still a hydraulic lifter engine and not a solid lifter design that requires more frequent valve adjustments.

Be sure to check if you have removed the valve cover.

Do you want to repair a broken caliper bolt or replace a caliper mount?

question: I had my car’s brakes replaced. One of the caliper bolts broke. The shop replaced the caliper mount instead of drilling holes. This seemed like a waste of money. What do you think?

answer: If you were doing a repair, then yes, it might have made sense to take the time to drill out the broken bolt. Once removed, the damaged tread must be cleaned with a tap or repaired using a thread insert kit.

Considering that time is money (labor costs seem to be approaching $250 an hour in some markets), it might have been cheaper to replace the caliper mounts rather than rework them.

DC shooting suspect Lakhanwal served in bloody CIA-led ‘Zero Squad’

WASHINGTON – The Afghan man accused of shooting and killing a National Guardsman two blocks from the White House last week served with the CIA-backed “Team Zero” in Afghanistan. The unit is a paramilitary group that conducted covert raids against terrorist suspects and enemies of the United States as part of the CIA’s counterterrorism program.

Rahmanullah Rakanwar, 29, who is accused of shooting and killing two West Virginia National Guard soldiers in front of a subway station in downtown Washington, was a member of an elite tactical unit, said Sami Sadat, a former commander of the Afghan Special Operations Command. The group was working with the U.S. military on counterterrorism operations before the Taliban takeover.

A motive for the shooting has not been revealed, but there are reports that he was part of a secret violent unit whose human rights abuses critics have likened to a “death squad” and spurred questions about whether the experience left him with post-traumatic stress disorder.

In response to the shooting, the Trump administration blamed Biden-era immigration policies and refugee programs that brought thousands of Afghans who served in the U.S. military to the country after the country’s 2021 withdrawal.

Lakhanwal entered the country that year through one such program, Operation Welcoming Allies, which brought in nearly 200,000 Afghans.

Lakhanwal was part of an elite US-backed team.

Sadat said Rakanwar was one of the thousands of Afghans who served in the elite tactical unit. Sadat said the unit he belonged to was called NDS 03, or Kandahar Strike Group.

Sadat currently chairs the Afghan United Front, a movement opposed to the Taliban.

According to reports, the Kandahar attack force operated from Camp Gekko, a US military base on the former compound of Taliban founder Mullah Omar.

The CIA acknowledged that Mr. Lakhanwal served for the agency in Afghanistan, but declined to comment on his role or reports of human rights abuses by his unit.

When the Taliban took over after the 20-year US occupation of Afghanistan, the US welcomed the Afghans who had fought alongside the Americans, fearing retaliation from the new regime.

“Following the disastrous Biden withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Biden administration justified bringing the suspected shooter to the United States in September 2021, citing his work with the U.S. government, including the CIA, as part of a partner force in Kandahar, but that operation ended shortly after the chaotic withdrawal,” CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in a statement.

Mr. Sadat and others familiar with the unit described them as an elite, specialized unit engaged in covert counterterrorism operations that ran parallel to, but separate from, the U.S. military’s main larger mission in Afghanistan.

The first Unit Zero was formed a few months after the September 11, 2001 attacks. At its peak in late 2010 and 2011, Afghanistan averaged 19 attacks each night, according to a report by the Open Society Foundations.

Troop Zero, guided by CIA intelligence and accompanied by U.S. special operations personnel, conducted tactical “night raids” against terrorist suspects and Taliban insurgents.

“These units are extremely highly trained and fought some of the heaviest combat throughout the war,” Mick Mulroy, a former CIA paramilitary operations officer and former assistant secretary of defense, told USA TODAY.

“An entire generation of CIA and military personnel served with them and were integrated into them, and many had their lives saved because of the members of this unit,” Mulroy added. “They were the first to rise and the last to leave Afghanistan.”

Sadat said the force is one of the most effective in fighting the Taliban on the ground. The majority of them came to the United States after the 2021 withdrawal, Sadat said, because they faced extreme risk of being hunted down and killed by the Taliban, who have a special hatred for Zero fighters.

Sean Vandiver, president of Afghanistan Evac, an organization that helps bring Afghan allies to the United States, said Lakanwal first started serving with Unit Zero when he was 15 years old. He said Lakhanwal was likely “exposed to all kinds of trauma” in his position.

Mulroy said the Afghans who served in Unit Zero undergo the “most extensive” screening of any foreign national seeking entry to the United States. This includes U.S. government employment verification, U.S. Embassy approval in Afghanistan, eight database checks, biometric registration and multiple “extensive” in-person interviews, he said.

Sadat said the CIA instructed Unit Zero intelligence agents to carry out raids, usually at night. In some cases, the CIA provided air raid support or even sent drones to back up the raids. They mainly operated in rural areas, he added.

But Sadat said the force’s disregard for the rules of engagement and its “high-handed” attitude toward civilians had “tarnished” its reputation.

This has created intense tensions with the Afghan government, which has been pushing for years to wrest control of the unit from the CIA without success, he said.

“It was like a blame game. The damage was terrible and it made it seem like the Afghan government was not responsible,” he added.

Forces reportedly did not kill hundreds of civilians

Human rights groups and media outlets collected hundreds of civilian casualties and evidence of possible war crimes related to Unit Zero. According to a 2022 ProPublica report, at least 452 civilians were killed in 107 attacks, but that number is likely a significant undercount.

A 2019 Human Rights Watch report documented numerous cases of “summary executions” and “enforced disappearances” carried out by CIA-backed forces. Those killed in the attack included children, elderly women, teachers and construction workers. The report said the force often acted on false information obtained from people with biased motives or whom the public deemed guilty “by association.”

Patricia Gosman, assistant Asia director at Human Rights Watch and author of the report, said local communities live in fear of seemingly arbitrary attacks. She recalled incidents where people were dragged from their homes and shot in the eyes and mouths. The bodies were sometimes left out in the open to leave terrifying messages. In one case, she said, troops stormed a clinic, shot and killed two medical workers, and then dragged a doctor away, who was never seen again.

“We didn’t know when it was going to happen. We didn’t know when we might get shot. It created fear in the public,” Gosman said.

Gosman said residents complained to local authorities, but the investigation was blocked and closed. She added that people were left with no answers and the United States was never held accountable for the “dangerous culture of impunity that accompanies these operations.”

“What’s most concerning is the total lack of transparency,” she said. “There was never any sense that I needed to take responsibility for those actions.”

Millie Bobby Brown has added another name to her nickname.

The Stranger Things star, who married rocker Jon Bon Jovi’s son Jake Bongiovi in 2024, revealed in a recent interview that she has changed her last name. In a new interview with co-star Noah Schnapp, Brown said he dropped his middle and last name and added Bon Jovi at the end.

“It’s just Millie Bonnie Bongiovi, that’s it. Millie Bon Jovi,” she said in a VT interview, in response to Schnapp’s joke that her new name was “Millie Bonnie Bobby Brown Bongiovi.”

It’s unclear whether Brown, 21, will change his name in the professional arena. Many stars change their legal name but keep their stage name.

Brown and Bon Jovi adopted their daughter in August, with Schnapp serving as her godfather.

The “Enola Holmes” star, who has remained largely silent about her personal life, recently revealed new details about her wedding to the son of a famous musician.

On the Nov. 26 episode of the Dish Food podcast, Brown took listeners through his private wedding to Bongiovi, 23, in Italy in May 2024.

“When Jake proposed, I thought, ‘We’ve got to learn the dance routine. We’re going to remember that forever and when this song comes on when we’re 80,'” she said. “It’s going to be very special.”

She nailed the dance routine called “Dirty Dancing.” “I thought, ‘What if I take the wrong elevator?'” Brown said. “It was too much.” Instead, the couple ended up taking dance lessons to learn a wide range of routines from Brown’s favorite movie, “Grease 2.”

Mark Kelly calls President Trump and Pentagon investigation a ‘dangerous moment’

0

play

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly claimed President Donald Trump is sending a “message” that Americans cannot criticize their government, after the Pentagon last week launched an investigation that could include returning the Arizona Democrat to active duty for a court-martial.

“They’re trying to send a message to veterans, government employees, military personnel, elected officials, and all Americans who are thinking of speaking out, that you better keep your mouth shut or else,” Kelly, a retired U.S. Navy captain, said at a news conference at the Capitol on Dec. 1.

The Pentagon announced last week that it was investigating Kelly for “allegations of serious misconduct.” The move came after Kelly joined a group of Democratic lawmakers in releasing a video telling service members they had the right to disobey orders they believed to be illegal.

Last week, President Trump’s Department of the Army confirmed in a post on X that it was opening an investigation into Kelly that could “include court-martial and return to active duty for administrative action.” The post cited the Uniform Military Justice Act, a federal law that outlines military criminal law.

But Kelly said at a news conference that the Trump administration’s public comments were “the only notice we have received to date” regarding a possible court-martial. Legal and military experts told USA TODAY that the case against Kelly faces major hurdles and that a military tribunal would likely result in a “death on arrival.”

“This is a dangerous moment for America as the president and his allies use all their power to silence the voices of U.S. senators,” Kelly said.

The FBI last week also requested interviews with the Arizona senator and five other Democrats who participated in the video.

Immediately after the video was released, President Trump made a series of posts on social media, accusing Democratic lawmakers of “seditious behavior and deserves the death penalty!” He later told Fox News that he did not believe the lawmakers should be executed, but warned that they were in “serious trouble.”

Kelly referenced Trump’s initial social media post about the video, claiming the president had “no regard for the rule of law.” But the senator also said he had no intention of filing a lawsuit based on public criticism of President Trump.

Kerry says Hegseth should testify about Venezuela attack

Mr. Kerry also criticized recent attacks on suspected U.S. drug vessels, following reports that U.S. forces attacked a ship in the Caribbean, killing two survivors clinging to the wreckage.

Kelly said council was briefed on the first three strikes. But a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee claimed officials were “choking to explain why this entire operation is legal.”

He said he wants officials involved in the strike to come before the committee to present legal arguments to the American people, including addressing concerns about due process guarantees under the 14th Amendment.

The Trump administration faces increased scrutiny from a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the wake of recent airstrikes, which the president’s allies say are national security efforts.

“If anyone should ever have to answer questions under oath in public, it’s Pete Hegseth,” Kelly said.

Why is President Trump threatening attacks? Explaining tensions between the US and Venezuela

0

play

Is a U.S. airstrike on Venezuela imminent?

Last weekend, President Donald Trump issued a warning to avoid flying over the South American country. President Trump has already hinted at a ground attack on Venezuela, which is located on the continent’s northern coast.

However, President Trump spoke on Air Force One on Sunday night, Nov. 30, and told reporters not to read too much into the closure of the space.

The move came after President Trump told the U.S. military on Thanksgiving that military operations would soon include ground strikes.

Venezuela condemned President Trump’s comments as a “colonial threat” that violates international law.

At the same time, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee is investigating an alleged “kill order” by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a military attack on a Venezuelan ship near the island of Trinidad. The Trump administration claims it was smuggling illegal drugs.

Mr Hegseth criticized the report as “fabricated, inflammatory and contemptuous”.

USA TODAY previously reported that President Trump, who has defended Hegseth against accusations that he ordered the military to “kill everyone” before the deadly attack, said he would investigate whether the United States carried out a second attack on the boat in the Caribbean.

At the same time, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) appeared on “Meet the Press” on Nov. 30 and said that the Senate Armed Services Administration would hold a hearing on potentially illegal military orders issued by Mr. Hegseth.

But why is President Trump talking about attacking Venezuela? Here’s what you need to know.

Why is Trump talking about attacking Venezuela?

President Trump has said he wants to tackle the domestic illegal drug trade that is killing Americans.

The president said his administration’s latest offensive against a suspected drug smuggling ship that killed dozens of people was aimed at stopping suspected Venezuelan traffickers.

President Trump also said he was targeting human traffickers there.

Since September, the regime is known to have attacked around 20 ships in international waters, including the Caribbean, killing 83 people. The second reported attack on a drug smuggling vessel took place on September 2nd.

Trump administration accuses President Nicolas Maduro of supplying illegal drugs to the US

President Maduro has been named the leader of the Cartel de los Soles, which the U.S. State Department has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

However, Venezuela’s president denied any connection to the illegal drug trade.

President Trump has threatened to escalate attacks on Venezuela, telling “airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers” over the weekend to consider closing the airspace over and around Venezuela.

The president told reporters on November 30 that he had met with Maduro, but did not say when the meeting took place or what the two men discussed.

AI Business Realities – What Business Leaders Need to Know

0

When JPMorgan Asset Management reported that AI spending accounted for two-thirds of US GDP growth in the first half of 2025, it wasn’t just a statistic, it was a signal.

The conversation recently reached a tipping point when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon each acknowledged the market was frothy within days. But for corporate decision makers, it’s important to remember that acknowledging the market is overheating is not the same as denying the corporate value of AI.

According to Stanford University, corporate investment in AI will reach US$252.3 billion in 2024, with private investment increasing by 44.5%. The question is not whether to invest in AI. It’s how you invest strategically while other companies (specifically your organization’s competitors) are overspending on infrastructure and solutions that may never yield returns.

What separates the 95% of AI winners and failures

According to ABC News, a study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that 95% of companies that invested in AI failed to profit from the technology. But this statistic hides a more important truth. 5% are successful and they are doing things fundamentally.

According to a McKinsey report, high-performing organizations are increasing their investments in AI capabilities, with more than one-third allocating more than 20% of their digital budgets to AI technology. But they’re not just spending more, they’re spending smarter.

McKinsey research reveals what separates winners from the rest. Nearly three-quarters of top-performing companies say their organization is expanding or has expanded AI, compared to one-third of other organizations. These leaders have common traits: they drive breakthrough innovation rather than incremental improvements, redesign workflows around AI capabilities, and implement rigorous governance frameworks.

Infrastructure investment dilemma

Corporate leaders face a real dilemma. Google’s Gemini Ultra cost $191 million to train, while OpenAI’s GPT-4 required $78 million in hardware costs alone. For most companies, building their own large-scale language models is not practical. Therefore, vendor selection and partnership strategy are important.

Despite the surge in demand, CoreWeave has cut its 2025 capital spending outlook by up to 40%, citing delays in power infrastructure deliveries. According to a Euronews report, CEO Safra Catz admitted that Oracle is “still turning away customers” due to lack of capacity.

This creates a risk and opportunity. Companies that diversify their AI infrastructure strategies, such as building relationships with multiple providers, validating alternative architectures, and stress testing supply constraints, are in a better position than those that bet all on a single hyperscaler.

Strategic AI investments in foam markets

“Unlike the speculative companies of the early 2000s, today’s AI giants are making real profits,” said Peter Oppenheimer, an equity analyst at Goldman Sachs.

The benefits for businesses aren’t to avoid investing in AI. Avoid the mistakes that plague the 95% of unprofitable people.

Focus on specific use cases with measurable ROI. McKinsey data shows that high-performing companies are more than three times more likely than other companies to say their organization intends to use AI to transform their business. They’re not deploying AI for AI’s sake; they’re targeting specific business problems where AI provides quantifiable value.

Invest not only in technology, but also in organizational readiness. Having an agile product delivery organization is strongly correlated to achieving value. Establishing a robust talent strategy and implementing technology and data infrastructure will greatly contribute to AI success.

Build your governance framework today. The percentage of respondents reporting efforts to reduce risks such as personal and personal privacy, explainability, organizational reputation, and regulatory compliance has increased since 2022. As regulation tightens around the world, early governance investments will become a competitive advantage.

Learning from market concentration

In late 2025, 30% of the U.S. S&P 500 was accounted for by just five companies, the largest concentration in half a century. For businesses, this concentration creates dependencies that are worth managing.

The successful 5% diversify their AI vendors and strategic approaches. They are combining cloud-based AI services with edge computing, partnering with multiple model providers, and building internal capabilities for the workflows most critical to their competitive advantage.

Real AI investment strategy

Google’s Sundar Pichai captured the nuances that companies have to deal with when he said, “We can look back at the Internet now. There was obviously a lot of overinvestment, but no one questions whether the Internet is deep. I expect AI to be the same.”

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has approximately 700 million weekly users, making it one of the fastest-growing consumer products in history. The challenge for companies is to implement it effectively, leaving others to waste billions of dollars on vanity projects.

Companies that are winning in the AI space have a common approach. This means treating AI as a business transformation initiative rather than a technology project. Establish clear success metrics before implementation. They invest in change management as well as infrastructure. And they maintain a healthy skepticism of vendor promises and continue to embrace the technology’s potential.

What this means for corporate strategy

For company leaders, being in the AI bubble is more important than building sustainable AI capabilities. The market corrects itself – it always does. But the companies that develop true AI capabilities during this investment surge will come out even stronger, regardless of market trends.

The percentage of survey respondents who reported their organization’s use of AI jumped from 55% in 2023 to 78% in 2024, according to data from Stanford University. AI adoption is accelerating, and companies waiting for the perfect market environment risk falling behind their competitors in building today’s capabilities.

It is strategically important to ensure that investments in AI generate measurable business value, regardless of market sentiment. Focus on actual deployment, measurable outcomes, and organizational readiness. Let others chase your inflated valuations while building a sustainable competitive advantage.

When was the first electric car created? You might be surprised.

0

play

Far from being a modern invention, electric cars date back to the mid-1800s. Interest in technology has been booming for years, based on both consumer trends and economic conditions.

In the mid-1900s, when gas was cheap and climate change was not yet widely recognized, electric cars were not as popular as they were at the beginning of the century. But as gas prices rose in the ’60s and into the ’70s, EVs were poised to make a comeback.

Now, with growing concerns about impending climate disaster, electric vehicles are once again gaining popularity and becoming more widely available. Let’s take a look back at the inventors who got us here.

When was the first electric car created?

The first “crude” electric car exploded on site in 1832, according to the Department of Energy. However, it took 40 years for electric cars to be put into practical use.

British inventor Robert Anderson developed the vehicle in 1832. However, the first successful model in the United States was created in 1891 by William Morrison from Iowa. Although his invention was also basic, it began to arouse widespread interest in the technology and its future transportation possibilities.

What was the first electric car?

The Department of Energy characterizes America’s first successful electric vehicle as simply an “electric wagon.” It can travel at just 24 miles per hour.

But the first hybrid electric car has a heavy name: Porsche. In 1901, Ferdinand Porsche developed the Lohner Porsche Mixist, which was powered by both battery and gasoline.

Who created the first modern electric car?

Early EV models date back to the early 1800s, but many of the models could not travel far or fast enough to be considered commercially viable. It wasn’t until 1894 that one such invention, the “Car and Driver,” was born, according to a report in a popular car magazine.

This was the year that Philadelphia natives Pedro Salom and Henry G. Morris patented the Electrobat EV technology, which ultimately powered more than 600 taxi cabs in New York City.

What was the first electric car sold in America?

The first hybrid electric vehicle commercially available in the United States was the Honda Insight. Although the Prius attracted more attention due to celebrity interest, the Insight was first released in Japan. It was released in 1999, the year before the Prius arrived in the United States.

When was the first electric car mass-produced?

Toyota was America’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Prius, launched in Japan in 1997 and sold worldwide just three years later to great success.

Is the other one your first time? chevrolet volt. In 2010, the vehicle became the first commercially available plug-in hybrid vehicle.

When did the first Tesla appear?

Before Elon Musk became a household name as Tweeter in Chief, he was investing in small Silicon Valley startups that were pushing the boundaries of the electric vehicle market.

In 2006, Tesla Motors announced that it would begin producing a luxury electric sports car that could travel more than 200 miles on a single charge. In the decade since, Tesla has become an industry giant, inspiring other manufacturers to step up EV development.

Texas nuclear power plant delayed due to time card fraud, raising safety concerns

0

play

Years of timecard fraud at a Texas factory where U.S. nuclear weapons are assembled and disassembled compromised production schedules and operational safety procedures, and subsequent firings caused quality control problems for the nuclear weapons made there, according to a federal oversight report.

New information about the timing scandal at the Pantex factory near Amarillo, Texas, was revealed in a Nov. 26 audit by the Department of Energy’s Office of Inspector General. The Justice Department’s announcement regarding the long-running fraud scheme said some of the factory’s weapons production engineers submitted timecards that exceeded their working hours. According to the government, the fraudulent timecard submissions occurred from 2014 to 2020.

The audit said the missed shifts directly led to “delays in production” and “an adverse impact on business performance,” a formal work procedure designed to keep nuclear workers, the public and the environment safe.

The company that oversees the Pantex factory disciplined its engineers, and at least some were fired. Department of Energy auditors found that the layoffs led to a loss of employee expertise and caused other problems. Training and security screening of replacement and temporary employees cost about $8.4 million, and Pantex has since also seen an increase in Weapons Quality Incident Reports documenting errors in manufacturing nuclear weapons.

The IG’s audit did not quantify the increase in “weapon quality incident reports” after the shooting, nor did it show any examples of such errors. However, a September 2023 report by a Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board inspector stationed at Pantex details how technicians accidentally assembled a “nuclear explosive device” by crossing electrical wires. The report said the replaced wires were “labeled and color-coded,” so they passed undetected by Pantex quality control technicians.

Consolidated Nuclear Security LLC, a contractor that once operated a National Nuclear Security Administration plant, self-reported timesheet discrepancies to federal authorities and paid the Justice Department $18.4 million in 2024 to settle claims without admitting liability. The company currently manages the Y-12 National Security Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where it manufactures components for nuclear weapons.

“The Department of Justice and the (Department of Energy’s Office of Inspector General) recognize CNS’ cooperation, support, and corrective actions taken to prevent a recurrence,” company spokeswoman Ann Smith said in an emailed statement to USA TODAY. “CNS fulfills our vital national security mission with the highest standards of excellence, ethics and integrity.”

Both CNS and the new contractor operating Pantex, PenTeXas Deterrence LLC, addressed future timekeeping concerns by requiring technicians to enter and leave the facility at the beginning and end of their shifts.

Luigi Mangione returns to court amid battle over key evidence

Luigi Mangione’s lawyers claim that key evidence, including a notebook and a handgun, was obtained illegally during his arrest.

play

Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, appeared in state court on Monday, Dec. 1, as his attorney attempts to extract key evidence from the New York murder case.

Mangione, 27, was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, about a year ago after authorities said he shot and killed Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4, 2024.

At a hearing this week, Mangione’s lawyers will battle prosecutors over evidence police recovered from Mangione’s backpack during his arrest, including a notebook, a silencer and a 3D-printed handgun, which prosecutors have linked to Mangione’s murder.

Mangione’s lawyers argue that because police searched her backpack before obtaining a warrant, the evidence should be excluded from the trial. The defense is also seeking to throw out Mangione’s statement at the time of his arrest, arguing that police questioned him before reading him his Miranda rights.

Manhattan prosecutors rejected defense claims that Mangione was illegally searched and interrogated.

The outcome of the hearing will be crucial in determining whether the jury will hear about the gun allegedly linked to the murder scene and a document stating the intent to “deceive” medical executives.

On the first day of the hearing, Mangione wore a gray suit and a plaid button-down shirt. He was seen taking notes and talking to his lawyer as he was unshackled. Judge Gregory Caro had earlier granted Mangione’s request to wear civilian clothes in court.

Outside, several people held signs that read “Free Luigi” and chanted slogans defending the Ivy League graduate. Such demonstrations have become a staple of Mangione’s hearings since his arrest last year.

Mangione faces nine felonies, including second-degree murder, in the New York state case, which could carry a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. In September, Caro dismissed terrorism-related charges against Mangione, saying prosecutors had not presented enough evidence to warrant it.

Mr. Mangione faces a separate federal death penalty charge and several charges in Pennsylvania. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial in New York state court is expected to last several days as prosecutors and defense attorneys argue over evidence and statements made by Mangione during his initial interrogation.

What evidence is Mangione trying to throw away?

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office previously highlighted documents that police say they recovered from Mangione’s backpack, saying they show how Mangione allegedly planned the attack.

“The target is insurance. Every box will be checked,” the note said, according to a court filing filed by New York prosecutors.

Police also found a ghost gun with the letter, which authorities say matches the shell casing recovered from the scene where Thompson was killed.

Mr. Mangione’s lawyers are also moving to exclude statements made by Mr. Mangione during his arrest, including the false name he allegedly gave police.

Other evidence against Mangione includes items found near the crime scene, including a cell phone and a water bottle, that authorities say contain Mangione’s DNA.

No trial date has been set for Mangione’s state or federal lawsuit.

Some Starbucks employees are still on strike after three weeks. Here’s why:

Starbucks army. Spokesperson Jaycee Anderson said only about 1% of Starbucks stores were affected by the nearly three-week strike.

play

Some Starbucks employees are in their third week of strike, but the company says it has had little impact on business or customers.

Starbucks Workers United, which represents about 550 employees at the chain’s approximately 17,000 stores across the United States, has been on strike since November 13, according to a news release from Starbucks Workers United. The strike began at some stores in 65 cities, and as of November 28, baristas in some 85 cities have said they are participating in demands for improved working hours and wages, as well as a resolution to allegations of unfair labor practices.

But the company said those numbers were inflated. Jaycee Anderson of the Starbucks Corps. A spokesperson told USA TODAY on Dec. 1 that only about 55 stores are affected by the strike, and 29 of the stores that were originally on strike have reopened.

The nearly three-week strike has been dubbed the “Red Cup Rebellion” because it began on Starbucks Red Cup Day, when customers received a free reusable red cup with the purchase of a drink.

Here’s what we know as of December 1st.

Is the Starbucks strike affecting customers?

Starbucks said the impact on customers has been minimal.

“As we’ve said, 99% of our 17,000 stores in the United States remain open and welcoming customers, including many stores where unions have publicly announced that they will strike, but have never closed and have since reopened,” Anderson told USA TODAY. “Regardless of the union’s plans, we do not anticipate any significant disruption. We are ready to discuss when the union is ready to return to the bargaining table.”

Starbucks Workers United told USA TODAY on Dec. 1 that the union has not heard from the company since the strike began.

Why are some Starbucks employees still on strike?

Starbucks Workers United’s three core demands are better working hours, higher take-home pay, and a resolution to allegations of unfair labor practices. The union did not provide details of those demands to USA TODAY.

“Any agreement needs to reflect the reality that Starbucks already provides some of the best jobs in retail,” Anderson previously told USA TODAY.

“The facts are clear: Starbucks offers some of the best jobs in retail, with hourly partner pay and benefits averaging $30,” Anderson continued. “People choose to work here and stay here. Our turnover rate is less than half the industry average and we receive more than 1 million job applications each year.”

Where are Starbucks employees picketing?

According to Starbucks Workers United, 2,500 members picketed more than 120 stores in 85 cities. A complete list of scheduled picketing events can be found on the No Contract, No Coffee website at nocontractnocoffee.org.

How long will the strike last?

Starbucks Workers United says the strike will not end until the company offers a fair and serious contract for consideration. There is no specific end date.

Trump faces intense scrutiny over suspected drug smuggling attack

0

play

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is facing increased scrutiny from lawmakers over its attack on a suspected drug ship after reports the U.S. military conducted a second deadly attack on a ship in the Caribbean, killing two survivors clinging to the wreckage.

Lawmakers on the House and Senate Armed Services Committees issued two bipartisan statements over the weekend announcing they would scrutinize the administration’s actions to determine the circumstances of the Sept. 2 attack on a suspected drug-smuggling vessel that some experts say violates the law.

“Obviously, if that happened, it would be very serious. And I agree that it’s illegal,” Rep. Mike Turner, an Ohio Republican and former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said on “Face the Nation” on Nov. 30.

According to the Washington Post, the additional strikes came after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth gave verbal instructions to “kill them all.” Hegseth said the report was “fabricated,” and President Donald Trump told reporters that the Pentagon chief denied issuing the order. The White House confirmed on December 1 that there had been a second attack.

Several Democratic senators said on November 30 that the additional reported attacks could constitute a war crime, with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine saying on “Face the Nation” that “if this is true, it rises to the level of a war crime.”

“I think it’s very likely that a war crime was committed,” Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen said on ABC News’ “This Week.”

He added that this would require an assessment that the United States is at war with drug smugglers. “Of course they never released the information they got here to the public. If that theory is wrong, it’s just murder.”

White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said in a Dec. 1 news conference that a second attack occurred and that Hegseth authorized Admiral Frank M. Bradley, who in the first report was said to have given official orders to follow the Secretary of Defense’s instructions, to carry out the attack.

“Regarding the attack in question on September 2nd, Secretary Hegseth authorized Admiral Bradley to conduct these kinetic attacks. Admiral Bradley worked well within that authority and the laws directing the engagement, ensuring the destruction of the boat and eliminating the threat to the United States,” Levitt said.

Mr. Levitt said Mr. Bradley issued the order and was “well within his authority to do so,” arguing that the incidents occurred because the United States designated drug traffickers as foreign terrorist organizations.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) and the committee’s top Democrat, Sen. Jack Reed (Rhode Island), said in a joint statement on Friday evening that they were aware of the recent reports and the Department of Defense’s initial response and “will conduct vigorous monitoring to determine the facts surrounding these situations.”

Republican Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Democratic Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, the committee’s ranking member, also committed to oversight in a separate joint statement.

“This committee is committed to rigorously monitoring Department of Defense military operations in the Caribbean. We are taking seriously reports of additional attacks on boats suspected of transporting narcotics in the Southcom region and are taking bipartisan action to gather a full description of the operations in question,” the lawmakers said in a Nov. 29 statement.

The revelations came amid a series of warnings from the president that he could soon carry out ground attacks against Venezuelan drug traffickers.

President Trump told the military on Thanksgiving Day: “We’re going to start interdicting them from the ground as well. It’s easier on the ground, but it’s going to start quickly.”

President Trump said over the weekend that pilots should consider closing the country’s airspace, and on Nov. 30 he told reporters he had spoken to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, but did not say what they discussed.

Top Democrats on the House committees introduced a resolution last month that seeks to prevent the administration from carrying out future attacks on targets related to drug-trafficking operations without Congressional approval.

Mr. Kaine is also pushing a bill in the Senate that would force President Trump to seek Congressional approval for any military action by the U.S. military in or against Venezuela. Two Republican senators, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, voted with Democrats last month. The bill was rejected 49-51 in the Republican-controlled Senate.

Mr. Paul is a co-sponsor of the bill and chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. He has strongly criticized the government for killing suspected human traffickers without holding trials.

After additional reported attacks, Mr. Cain stepped up his attacks again. “The time has come for Congress to rein in a president who decides to go to war on his own terms. The Constitution does not allow that,” he said on November 30.

“Under our Constitution, the sole authority to declare war rests with Congress, not the president, and Congress has not authorized the use of military force against Venezuela,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement on November 28.

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires the president to consult Congress on military action. President Trump has maintained that he does not need Congressional authority to carry out the airstrikes. The administration directed lawmakers to a confidential opinion from the Justice Department’s Office of the General Counsel, which Democrats argued did not justify the attack.

Turner, a Democrat from Ohio, said Congress had “grave concerns” about the attack and the “legal justification presented” and said additional reported attacks were “totally outside the scope” of discussions with lawmakers.

After the report was released, several Democratic politicians called for Hegseth to resign.

President Trump: “The whole world is watching” Tennessee special election

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump told Tennesseans that “the whole world is watching” as Republicans try to avoid disaster in the Dec. 2 special election in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District.

On the eve of the election, President Trump called on the people of Tennessee to vote for Republican candidate Matt Van Epps against Democrat Affin Behn via the cellphone of House Speaker Mike Johnson, suddenly drawing national attention due to the unexpectedly narrow margin of victory.

Mr. Johnson stayed in Franklin, Tennessee, where he joined up with Mr. Van Epps and other top Tennessee Republicans in a final push to prevent a Democratic upset.

“Remember, he has a three-vote majority, and not many people can do that,” President Trump said on Dec. 1, referring to the speaker’s narrow Republican majority in the House. “We have to win this seat.”

Mr. Behn and Mr. Van Epps, who have hinted at the possibility of a blue wave in the 2026 midterm elections, are locked in a close race in a district where Mr. Trump led by 22 points in the 2024 presidential election. The Emerson College Poll/The Hill poll had Van Epps leading by just two points, 48% to 46%, within the poll’s margin of error.

Mr. Behn, a Democratic state representative, is a former community organizer and progressive activist. Van Epps is a military veteran who previously led the Tennessee Department of General Services. The winner will replace former Republican Congressman Mark Greene of Tennessee, who retired to take a job in the private sector.

Even if Mr. Behn doesn’t win the race, which would have been unthinkable a few weeks ago, a single-digit loss could be a big problem for Republicans.

“Matt Van Epps, he’s a winner. He’s going to be great,” Trump said, later falsely accusing Vane of hating Christianity and country music. “How on earth could you elect someone like that?” said the president.

Republicans spent the final days of the campaign spending millions on a campaign to paint Mr. Behn as a “far-left lunatic.”

President Trump said he planned to hold a teletown hall for Van Epps in the evening.

“Tomorrow morning, let’s go out and vote,” President Trump said. “Let’s win by a landslide. The whole world is watching Tennessee right now, and it’s watching your district. The whole world. This is a big vote. It’s going to show something, and it’s going to show that the Republican Party is stronger than ever.”

The Democratic National Committee pushed back against the Republican push for a special election.

“Win or lose, Republicans are forced to spend millions of dollars, commit resources and do everything they can to defend seats in districts that Trump won by 22 points,” Abhi Rahman, vice president of communications for the Democratic National Committee, said in a statement.

Can I sleep in the car? What you need to know

0

Can I fall asleep in the car? Here’s why it’s not the best idea:

play

  • Some states allow drivers to rest at designated locations for up to 24 hours.
  • Some states may have strict rules and regulations regarding loitering in public and private parking lots.
  • Drivers who sleep in their cars can be ticketed and fined.

Motor vehicle and traffic laws vary from state to state. Believe it or not, in some states sleeping in your car can get you into serious trouble, unlike driving barefoot.

Why is sleeping in your car a problem? Here’s what you need to know about falling asleep in your car from the Department of Transportation, legal sources, and auto insurance companies.

Can I sleep in the rest area?

Falling asleep in a (properly) parked car is not itself a state crime. However, where you fall asleep and how long you sleep can make the difference between getting a serious ticket or not.

Drivers may want to take a quick nap in the car for various reasons, such as fatigue after a long drive. Overnight parking is prohibited in some states, for example at rest areas in Tennessee. Due to Tennessee Department of Transportation welcome center and rest area regulations, you may not remain parked in a rest area for more than two hours.

That’s right, certain states have strict regulations for drivers even at designated rest stops. In fact, Tennessee has one of the shortest interstate stopping time limits in the country. In contrast, Texas limits stays at interstate rest areas to 24 hours and allows overnight parking.

Several major cities have also banned sleeping in cars on public and private property. This excludes public and private parking lots from legal places to catch some Zs, according to Direct Auto Insurance, an Allstate Insurance brand. Where does Walmart, a retail legend known for allowing overnight parking, stand on this issue?

Can I park overnight at Walmart?

Walmart is no exception to the state’s rules when it comes to allowing drivers to fall asleep in parking lots. There is no official national policy regarding parking RVs or cars overnight in Walmart parking lots. Walmart’s Frequently Asked Questions page answers the question, “Can I park an RV at a Walmart store?” “Parking permits are extended by each store manager based on parking space availability and local laws.”

Therefore, the same rules that apply to public or private parking lots apply to Walmart parking lots. Some Walmart managers may allow you to rest in the parking lot, but you may be violating local loitering laws.

Can I get a ticket to sleep in the car?

If you’re caught by law enforcement, you could be ticketed or questioned for sleeping in your car in a state where sleeping in your car is not allowed, according to a resource page on LawInfo.com, a national lawyer directory. If you are intoxicated, sleeping in your car can be even more dangerous if law enforcement can prove you intended to drive while intoxicated. It is best to avoid this situation completely and plan ahead before taking a break in the car.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued guidance on drowsy driving, recommending that if drivers in the United States feel drowsy while driving, they should drink coffee, stop at a designated rest stop, and take a 20-minute nap. According to NHTSA, preparing by getting enough rest is key to avoiding the potentially fatal drowsy driving situation.

New $45 TSA fee applies to travelers without REAL ID

0

play

  • Travelers without a REAL ID will soon be charged a $45 fee to verify their identity.
  • A new process called confirm.ID can be completed online before arriving at the airport.
  • This alternate identity verification is valid for 10 days for each payment.

Traveling without a REAL ID will soon cost you $45.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced Monday that 94% of U.S. airline passengers have a REAL ID. After February 1, the remaining 6% will have to follow an alternative process that includes paying a fee.

Officials said the fee is intended to cover the technical and administrative costs of verifying the identity of travelers who do not have REAL ID-compliant documentation or accepted alternative documentation.

According to TSA officials, non-compliant travelers using the new confirm.ID process should plan to pay and upload documents through the soon-to-be-online TSA web portal before arriving at the airport.

These travelers must bring a copy of their Confirmation ID receipt to a standard TSA counter, and after presenting the non-compliant document and proof of completion of the Confirmation ID process, they should be able to pass through the security checkpoint as normal.

Travelers who have not completed the confirm.ID process in advance have the option to complete it at the airport. TSA officials generally expect ID verification to take 10 to 15 minutes, but said it could take up to 30 minutes depending on the specific case.

Registration with confirm.ID does not guarantee that TSA will be able to verify a traveler’s identity, so even after paying the fee, a traveler may be denied boarding if the government is unable to complete the identity check.

According to TSA officials, the confirm.ID alternative compliance method is valid for 10 days per payment, starting from the first departure date of the itinerary.

Currently, travelers without a REAL ID may undergo additional screening, including name and address verification, before being allowed through a secure checkpoint.

What types of ID does TSA accept?

According to the TSA, as of December 1, the acceptable forms of identification are:

  • REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state photo ID issued by the DMV or state equivalent
  • State-issued enhanced driver’s license or enhanced ID
  • US passport or passport card
  • Homeland Security-trusted traveler cards (such as Global Entry)
  • permanent resident card
  • border crossing card
  • Photo ID issued by a federally recognized tribal nation/Indian tribe
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID (including those issued to dependents)
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
  • US Merchant Mariner Certification
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • Transportation Worker Identification Certificate (TWIC)
  • HSPD-12 PIV Card
  • Passport card issued by a foreign government
  • Canadian provincial driver’s license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card

The TSA says travelers with alternate REAL IDs should check the TSA webpage before traveling because the list of what’s acceptable is subject to change without notice.

Revology’s 1969 Mustang Boss 429 raises the bar for restomods

0

play

What comes to mind when you read the word “?”ford mustang Restomod”? A hunk of billet shoehorned into a clichéd digital dash, floppy body kit, and unassuming ’60s cabin? Yeah, us too. Over the past few decades, we’ve seen a troubling number of Ford’s original pony cars get lost between imagination and reality.

But Revology is here to build some bridges. With a goal of blending classic soul and modern luxury, the company has already established itself in the industry with numerous re-imagined 1966, ’67 and ’68 Mustang and Shelby classic cars on the market in its more than 10 years in business, and its latest effort challenges another absolute legend, the 1969 Mustang Boss 429.

What is the Boss 429 Mustang?

Offered in 1969 and 1970; Ford’s first Boss 429 Mustang It was rarefied air, and a very muscular Ford, in an era when muscular Fords were plentiful. This was a special homologation, aimed at meeting a production minimum of 500 cars to make the car, and more importantly the engine, eligible for NASCAR competition.

The Boss 429’s namesake engine, a 429 cubic inch “semi-Hemi” V8, was a pure product of Ford’s race development program in partnership with frequent contractor Kar Kraft. With Chrysler’s 426 Hemi V8 emerging as a dominant force in stock car racing, NASCAR imposed a displacement limit of 429 cubic inches in 1968, but Ford was undaunted. The unique canted valve big block is ready for the next race season and the rest is performance history.

pedigree improvement

This Boss 429 is definitely not that Boss 429. First of all, this boss 429 is current mustang dark horseHowever, it adds a supercharger that brings the advertised output to 710 horsepower, making it considerably more beefy than the original. But Revology’s Boss was always intended to be more than a jewel box of exotic powerplants.

According to the company, the manufacturing process began with a brand-new steel unibody, applying manufacturing and CAD design processes straight from the OEM toolbox to achieve stiffness and refinement unprecedented in a classic Mustang to date. And, like any large late model product, before a single fastener or structural adhesive is applied, the entire vehicle is polished in digital design space and ready for production. On the surface, this not only allows for an assembly process that is much closer to OEM in terms of speed and repeatability, but it is also a significant improvement over the standard one-off custom shop-style construction process that is typically undertaken for even the highest quality restorations and restorations.

Of course, I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet, but I can say that the Revology process delivers an impressive package. The infamous wide 5.0 Coyote engine has a factory-like fit, and the long direct-shift T56XL six-speed manual’s stick placement seems ideal. The double-wishbone front and three-link Ford 8.8 rear suspension, hydraulic power rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes behind slightly larger Magnum 500-style wheels are all elegantly integrated and, at first glance, give the impression of a slightly modified version of the original car. The body finishes and interior materials are excellent, and the gauges, dashboard, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and revised Mazda MX-5 seats faithfully recreate the look of the original parts while subtly incorporating modern functionality, ergonomics, and luxury.

cost of being a boss

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it – yes, that old chestnut – but we asked anyway: the affordable price of $395,000 gets the ball rolling on a custom buildout. Yes, you could certainly buy five or six or even one new Mustang Dark Horse for that much money. Porsche 911 GT3 RS – Baiting Mustang GTD 815 horsepower and factory warranty.

But if an apex classic Mustang is what you’re coveting, the math is different. And that number starts to become at least somewhat less outlandish when you factor in the cost of the original Boss 429, of which less than 2,000 were built and genuine examples are starting to sell for as much as $625,000 at auction. Although these are very special, they are 55 year old Fords at best.

We believe the Revology Boss 429 could be the ideal middle ground between origins and progress, giving it great appeal in the Mustang collector market and beyond. All of the original majesty is clearly on display, right down to the fender vents, yet the driving experience promises to be thoroughly modern in every respect. It’s very rare for a car to represent both a fitting tribute and a significant step forward, but Revology’s efforts seem to have succeeded in doing just that. Now I need a moment to sit down for confirmation.

Trump-backed candidate leads in tally

0

play

Honduras woke up this Monday in an anxious silence, its eyes glued to the inching electorate count. The country does not yet have an elected president, but new data from the National Electoral Council (CNE) reveals important changes. National Party candidate Nasri “Tito” Asfullah, who is publicly supported by Donald Trump, maintains a minimum 4,100 vote advantage over Salvador Nasrallah, with 56% of votes counted.

According to the latest figures, Mr. Asfullah received 40% of the vote, with Mr. Nasrallah of the Liberal Party (39.78%) in a close race, and each digital record seems to be moving the heartbeat of the people. He was followed by Libre’s official candidate Lixi Moncada with 19.18%, a clear disciplinary vote.

The country voted on Sunday, a well-attended and politically tense day made worse by President Trump’s interference, failures on the CNE’s digital platform and mutual accusations of fraud. The next president will govern Honduras from 2026 to 2030, but there will be no second round and a simple majority will be sufficient.

When were Honduras’ elections held and what happened on that day?

The election took place on November 30 on a calmer-than-expected day after weeks of tension, early allegations of fraud and a heated political climate amid interference from US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported. The country voted under a state of emergency that has been in place since 2022, adding an unusual element to already scheduled election events.

More than 6 million Hondurans were eligible to vote. In addition to the president, deputy representatives, mayors, and representatives of the Central American Congress were also elected. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) extended voting at heavily attended polling stations, and tensions ran high as it took more than an hour and a half for the first bulletin to be released after the session closed.

Who are the candidates? How is the presidential election going?

AsfuraThe construction businessman and former mayor of Tegucigalpa claims to be a hands-on manager with a focus on infrastructure. He reached the final stage with the support of President Trump, a move that polarized the country and revived rejection of former president Juan Orlando Hernández, who was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States.

Nasrallahthe TV presenter and politician will be competing for the fourth time. Its banner is the fight against corruption and a break with traditional political elites. He sells himself as an outsider, even though he served as vice president in the Castro regime.

Moncadaa former minister and political dolphin of Xiomara Castro, chose to continue the progressive policies of his ruling party, but ended up receiving a clear punitive vote after years marked by scandal, nepotism, and public discontent.

Trump’s importance in the election: endorsements, warnings, and controversial pardons

Donald Trump directly intervened in the Honduras process. He posted a series of messages Friday supporting Mr. Asufura, warning that the United States “will not put good money after bad unless Mr. Asfullah wins.” He also said both sides could work together against drug trafficking.

The political fallout was immediate, reviving recent wounds, dividing voters and tense the pre-election situation.

But that wasn’t all. President Trump has promised to pardon former President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was sentenced to 45 years in prison in the United States for drug and arms trafficking. Hernández, also from the Nationalist Party, ruled Honduras from 2014 to 2022, but his character is highly controversial.

The announcement sparked anger, especially among young voters and those who supported the extradition and conviction of the former president.

Argentina’s President Javier Millay also supported Asufura, saying he represents resistance “against leftist tyrants.”

The country will have to wait. The CNE will continue to review and it could take days, or even weeks, to announce an official winner. International observers, including the OAS, called for caution and responsibility from the candidates, especially given the possibility that the final result could be called into question.

The next few hours will be key for Hondurans at home and abroad, including the nearly 1 million people living in the United States. The future president will govern a country marked by poverty, immigration, gang violence and a struggle to restore faith in institutions.

The results are near, but not yet arrived. Honduras remains on edge, waiting for the next chapter.

Missing coach Travis Turner was last seen walking into the woods with a gun

A Virginia high school football coach wanted for child pornography and computer solicitation was last seen walking into the woods with a firearm, according to reports.

Travis Turner, 46, of Appalachia, Virginia, is wanted on five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, according to Virginia State Police. The agency did not provide details on what led to the charges, but said additional charges were pending.

Turner, a well-known figure around Southwest Virginia and the former football coach at Union High School in Wise County, was last seen on Nov. 20. State Police said in a Nov. 25 news release that authorities are “actively searching” for Turner.

Adrian Collins, an attorney representing Turner’s family, told local television stations WCYB and WJHL that the family’s last contact with Turner was on November 20, after Turner “left his home to walk into the woods with a firearm.”

“We believe he entered a wooded, mountainous area,” Collins said in a statement, the television station reported on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29. “No warrant for his arrest had been issued at that time.”

According to WCYB and WJHL, Collins said Turner’s wife called local police when her husband did not come home that night, but was told she could not file a missing persons report until 24 hours had passed. A missing persons report was filed on November 21, and the family has been cooperating with police since then, the television station reported.

“Family and friends are also conducting searches in the surrounding woods,” Collins added, according to the TV station. “These efforts are limited in view of weather conditions and ongoing official operations.”

Collins and the Virginia State Police did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment on Nov. 30.

High school football coach deemed fugitive

Virginia State Police previously said they had obtained 10 felony warrants for Turner on Nov. 24, and that agents were dispatched to Turner’s Appalachian residence on Nov. 20 as part of the “initial stages” of the investigation.

However, during the trip, investigators were informed that Turner was no longer at the residence, state police said. Since his disappearance, state police have said they are using search and rescue teams, drones and police dogs to assist in the investigation.

The agency said its “top priority” was to safely locate Turner, who is believed to be a fugitive. State police say the investigation is ongoing.

Appalachia is a town in Wise County, Virginia, approximately 40 miles north of the Virginia-Kentucky border.

Who is Travis Turner?

Turner taught physical education at Union High School, the same school where he coached football. As of Nov. 30, he was not listed on the school’s website.

During Turner’s disappearance, the Union High School football team remained undefeated and advanced to the state semifinals on Nov. 29, according to WCYB.

Wise County Public Schools Superintendent Mike Goforth previously told USA TODAY that the district is aware that law enforcement has filed charges against “a faculty member on administrative leave.” Goforth did not name the employee, but said the employee was on leave and “is not permitted to be on school grounds or have any contact with students.”

Prior to teaching at Union High School, Turner played quarterback at Appalachian High School, where he was coached by his father, Tom Turner, a Hall of Fame member of the Virginia High School League.

Turner was a member of Virginia Tech’s 1998 freshman class, which also included Michael Vick, USA TODAY reported. Turner transferred to Division II UVA Wise for the 1999 season, when Vick memorably led the Hokies to the national championship game.

Turner then transferred to Eastern Kentucky University in 2002, where the team finished legendary coach Roy Kidd’s final season with an 8-4 record. The campaign also included a 25-24 loss to Eastern Illinois on October 12, when Turner faced future Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
