NEW YORK – Bruce Springsteen didn’t write words at the premiere of his new biopic.

The candid rock icon was on hand on Sunday, September 28th for the announcement of “Springsteen: Delivery Me Me New My No May.” Springsteen, 76, took to the stage with the film’s cast and crew at the end of the screening, stunning the crowd with a solo acoustic performance of the emotional ballad “Land of Hope and Dreams.”

“Recently, we have a daily event that reminds us of the fact that we live through these particularly dangerous times,” Springsteen introduced the song. “I spent my life on the road. I’m moving around the world as an American music ambassador, trying to measure the distance between American reality and our ideals and American reality that didn’t meet American dreams.”

But “for now, for many, she remains a land of hope and dreams,” he added. “It’s not fear, schizophrenia, government censorship or hatred. America is worth fighting for, so it’s in that spirit.

The film’s New York premiere (October 24th theatre) comes two weeks after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Jimmy Kimmel’s controversial remarks about Kirk’s murder have prompted ABC to temporarily suspend late-night television shows.

Springsteen told the audience to “stay strong” as he left the stage. The entire uplifting Alistair Hall at Lincoln Center.

Before the performance, Springsteen said, “I was grateful to White for putting my whole heart and soul into that part. You did an amazing job.

The musician also shared his gratitude to Jeremy Strong. Jeremy Strong portrays his attentive manager, John Landau, and his on-screen parents.

“Because Stephen Graham is the living embodiment of his late father, who was a very difficult life but a heartfelt man,” Springsteen said. “Gabby Hoffman, for the great portrayal of my mother. They’re all gone, so it’s nice to have this film.”

Before Springsteen shot the microphone, writer/director Scott Cooper shared a story about how he lost his family in the Pallisard Fire in California earlier this year.

Cooper’s wife and children recalls “Bruce told me, ‘Scott, leave the hotel, take me to my house,” Cooper recalls. “We did that and we stayed there until we got up, because that’s Bruce Springsteen.

10 old school cars that gave birth to the lowrider culture

0

One of the most beautiful things about lowrider culture is that it allows for the ultimate expression of personality across the car canvas. There are no restrictions on whether you slam a car or truck into the ground, dance with an airbag, or jump into three-wheel movement with hydraulics, but there are definitely models that will help modern lowrider cultures.

Here are 10 old school cars that have had a major impact on the low rider scene.

Chevrolet Impala

It is impossible to discuss the history of lowriders without underscoring the importance of the Chevrolet Impala. Many early lowriders wore Chevrolet badges because they had bumpers that were affordable for cars to buy and not drag when they fell as low as possible to the ground (especially compared to the Fords of the era).

Since the arrival of the second-generation cars in the late 1950s, the Impala has been popular as a low rider, with the dramatic tail fins on the 1959 model giving it a distinctive look. However, it is a 1961-1964 edition, and is burned into public consciousness as a prototype low rider. This was due to both the possession of the axle in the original Chicano culture that produced the phenomenon and another culture in the hip-hop world that adopted the ’64 Impala as its icon. Impala continued to be prominently featured among lowrider fans until the mid-1980s when the body version of the car was removed from production.

Mercury Eight

The Impala are just as important as they are in low-rider cultures, so getting low-submarine treatment was far from the first car. Mercury Eight, especially the 1949-1951 model, was a staple of early hot rod cultures in the form of “lead sled” and, in addition to featuring a carved roof, was often given a significant suspension drop.

It, coupled with the enormous exposure that James Dean’s film Rebel has given to the no-cause model, leads to serious cross-pollination with lowrider fans, continuing to be one of the most prominent cars since World War II on modern lowrides.

Chevrolet Advanced Design/C10 Pickup

Remember when you said that Chevrolet was overrepresented among lowrider fans? This wasn’t just limited to cars. The Chevrolet pickups that have become the staple food of the scene have at least two generations of Chevrolet pickups.

Moving into the middle of the next decade from the late 1940s, the Chevrolet “Advance Design” track (as it was known at the time) was a strong choice for lowrider builders. Easy to work with and inexpensive, these trucks provided plenty of space for hydraulic suspension setups and cargo beds for air compressors after their technology replaced static suspension setups.

Almost 20 years later, another Chevrolet pickup model, the 1973-1986 “Square Body” C10), has also become a lowrider favorite for many of the same reasons. Given the extremely long production run and the support of the huge aftermarket, the C10 continues to hold a strong show as a low rider platform to this day.

Lincoln Continental

The Lincoln Continental from 1961 to 1969 represents the high water mark of American automotive design, with its slabside and rear hingdoors resonating in the industry decades after leaving production. It also made the impression of being extra large in the lowrider community. There, its imposing proportions made it a general choice after lengthening the original glory year.

Much of its many glory strengthened the reputation of the Continental Coupe Mark series, which followed the sedan in the 1970s. With its hidden headlights and an acre hood, these giant cars were perfect for hopping and dropping.

Chevrolet Monte Carlo

In 1973, General Motors introduced the Coronade, a large, medium-sized group of models that sit near the top of the lineups of the Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile families. Of these, Chevrolet Monte Carlo developed the Cult Follow. This eventually expanded into the lowrider community.

That love continued in the 1980s when Monte Carlo was reduced to a G-Body platform, but as you can see, the G-Body had its own hero that surpassed Chevrolet over time.

Buick Regal/Oldsmobile Cutlass

When the G-Body arrived, General Motors pulled a typical “spray and please” strategy, with almost all of its brands giving a crack in building coupes in frame-on designs. These rear-wheel-drive two-door gobs and gobs were produced, many of which feature V-8 power, and their ubiquitity and style have become a major target for lowrider builders.

In particular, the two models survived time testing as hot low rider platforms for Buick Regal and Oldsmobile Cutlass.

It becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, as the mechanical and aesthetic knowledge base for these car changes is huge and even more appealing to those who want to engage in the low-rider world. With a low-cost admission fee, it’s easy to see why the imposing cutlass and cutlass are towering figures of lowrider culture.

Chevrolet S-10 pickup

Ever since the first mini trucks arrived on the scene in the 1970s, they have attracted enthusiasts trying to express themselves with custom vehicles. The Chevrolet S-10 pickup, which has been growing ever since 1982 and the 1990s, quickly became a popular choice among lowrider fans interested in the mini-track scene. In some respects, it was even more rough than the world of full-sized, slapped pickups that pre-processed with that boxed attitude.

The S-10 follows a pattern that has always been familiar to this list of popular lowrider options. It’s cheap to buy, easy to work with, and plenty of room to add trick suspension gear. It also does not hurt that these vehicles were built by millions of people.

Cadillac Eldorado

The 1980s brought more premium fares to those who wanted to push low riders of their class down to the block. Cadillac fell into difficult times in the 70s, with its fame being pushed to its side by anemia, smog choke engines and high-tech European imports. However, the 1979-1985 El Dorado still had a cache among lowrider enthusiasts who praised the possibility of being offered by the large coupe square line and its full frame design.

Ten years later, as El Dorado prices fell sharply in the second-hand market, these cars went into the hands of those looking for upgrades on the G-body. The collectors market has yet to keep up with ELDOs in the 80s, so builders can change most of their money instead of the purchase price.

Cadillac Fleetwood

Let’s say you had more friends than you could fit inside a two-door coupe, but you still wanted a Cadillac coat of arms on the front of the Lowrider. Enter Brougham Sedan. This is a car that unleashed the brand’s rear-wheel drive tradition when most of the other fleets moved to the front wheel movement.

This is a boon for lowrider fans, making it much easier to change. It is also an impressive machine with its upright grille and thick styling, making it an ideal choice for over-the-top representation of frame scraping designs. When they arrived in 1987, Broum was gone by 1992, but lived spiritually in a Fleetwood sedan.

Chevrolet Caprice/Impalas SS

It’s just as important as the original Impala low rider. It remains an engraved on lowrider culture, rather than the two generations of Chevrolet’s full-size sedan (and more rarely, coupes).

The first is the “box,” the name given to the squared-off Caprices that were sold from 1977 to 1990. Also offered with the Impala badge (with very few differences between the two models), these cars became the template for ’80s lowriders alongside their smaller G-body siblings thanks to similar attributes (body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive, V-8 power) and the huge number that were built for both taxi and police fleet.

In 1991, the box gave way to the “bubble.” This is a more rounded generation of Caprice that continues until 1996. It featured a more modern drivetrain and a rather comfortable cabin, but the design details resemble the box under the new body surprisingly. This allowed us to transfer previous knowledge about changing Chevrolets with minimal hassle and continue to remain popular in the lowrider culture.

This also applies to the high performance Impala SS available from 1994 to 1996.

Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl Show, His Political View

0

play

  • Reggaeton Star Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February 2026.
  • The artist approved Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
  • Bud Bunny skipped the US on his upcoming tour, citing concerns about his massive deportation on the show and the presence of potential ice.

The Reggaeton Superstar Bad Bunny is the halftime show headliner at the Super Bowl in California in February 2026.

Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio (31) beat Taylor Swift, the world’s most streamed artist on Spotify in 2022, who came in second place. He placed Puerto Rican heritage at the heart of his sixth studio album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which spent several weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart earlier this year.

“What I feel is beyond myself,” Bud Bunny said in a statement shared by the NFL. “This is for my people, my culture and our history.”

Bad Bunny has also not moved away from politics in the past. Here’s what we know about his stance:

Are bad bunnies Trump supporters? His political views

Bud Bunny supported former vice president Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican pride is a big part of his work. President Donald Trump’s first presidency came out when Hurricane Maria destroyed US territory and the president threw rolls of paper towels at the crowd when he visited after the devastation.

Bad Bunny’s support for Trump’s Democratic opponents came shortly after Trump’s Madison Square Garden Rally came to make a light-paper comment about the island.

“A lot is happening. I don’t know if you know this or not, but right now, in the middle of the ocean there’s a literal garbage island over the water,” said Tony Hinchcliffe, whose stage name is Kill Tony. “I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

In support of Harris, Bad Bunny shared a video to her 45 million Instagram followers pledging to boost Puerto Rico’s economy.

“I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he didn’t do when Puerto Rico needed a compassionate and capable leader,” Harris said in the video. “He abandoned the island and tried to block aid after a series of devastating hurricanes, nothing more than paper towels and shaming.”

He spoke about the incident in a pop cast interview with the New York Times in January, explaining that some people may not have understood Hinchliff as making a joke because of the context of the political rally.

In 2020, Bad Bunny allowed Biden to use his songs in television ads, CNN reported. In 2023 he received the Vanguard Award for Glaad, using his popularity to support the outspoken alliance of the LGBTQ community and transgender rights.

Due to immigration policy, bad bunny skipped us on a world tour

Bad Bunny relayed his sixth chart-topping studio album, “I had to throw more photos” earlier this year.

In the music video for one song on the album “Nuevayol,” he seemed to be dealing directly with Trump’s anti-immigration policy. After showing the Puerto Rican flag hanging on the Statue of Liberty’s forehead, the voice that sounds like a play from Trump’s radio sounds like this:

“I made a mistake. I want to apologise to the American immigrants,” the voice says. “I want to say there’s nothing without immigration. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans…”

On the radio, one of the people cuts it off when they all leave.

Bad Bunny served as a residency in Puerto Rico from July 11th to September 14th, but surprised fans when his next world tour schedule didn’t include an American appearance. In an interview published on September 10, he said immigration and forced customs crackdown were part of the reason he chose not to bring his tour here.

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, but none of them left the hatred,” he told ID Magazine. “Specifically, because of our residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are the unintegrated territory of the United States, people in the United States could come here to see the show. They could also travel to Latinos and any part of America.”

“But (my concert) had problems like ice (expective) ice. That’s something we were talking about and was very worried.”

What did Trump say about Bad Bunny performing in the Super Bowl LX?

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the announcement.

Trump was able to see the performance firsthand. In February 2025, he became the first president to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans. He regularly appeared in high-profile sporting events during this presidency.

The Trump administration has implemented a variety of anti-immigration tactics, including trying to limit birthright citizenship, strengthen ice arrests and promote removal. Some of his actions face legal challenges.

nfl pushed diverse world views America America retreat from bad bunny

play

  • Bad Bunny is known for celebrating his Puerto Rican heritage.
  • The selection of the league is seen as a strategic move to expand its international presence and fan base.
  • While this decision may be controversial, the NFL focuses on long-term growth and economic opportunities.

By choosing Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, you need to understand what the NFL has done. In other words, Really Understand.

The music artist recently completed what is described as a 31-day concert residency in Coriseo, Puerto Rico. Here’s how the event was explained by USA Today: “…31 shows in total – serving as a rest for fans during a time when social media feeds are overwhelmed by headlines about the massive deportation of Latinos in the US, reflecting President Donald Trump’s constant fear amid ongoing immigration crackdown.”

“The Bad Bunny show felt like a space for fans and Puerto Ricans to sing, dance, relax and bathe in their cultural pride.”

The NFL knows that Bad Bunny’s emphasis on Puerto Rican pride is likely to confuse people who like football, but don’t like the message of diversity. In fact, they may be dislike The message of diversity. The league knew this and didn’t bother.

When making the Super Bowl announcement, Bad Bunny wore a Pava, a traditional Puerto Rican hat. “What I feel is beyond myself,” he said in a statement shared by the NFL. “This is for my people, my culture and our history.”

“Bad Bunny represents the global energy and cultural vibrancy that defines today’s music scene. As one of the world’s most influential streaming artists, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to win the Super Bowl halftime stage.

“I know that his dynamic performances, creative vision and deep connections with his fans provide an unforgettable experience that you’ll expect from this iconic cultural moment.”

Global energy. Cultural vibrancy. Bridging language. A cultural moment.

This is the opposite energy of what we see in this country now: ice attacks and harsh immigration policies. The New York Times reported that more immigrants will leave the United States than they will come here for the first time in decades.

I’ve covered this league for 30 years and still have the ability to shock. Usually, that shock is not a good thing. In this example, that’s true.

What exactly does the NFL do? The league has played a long game.

When Trump is not there and the NFL continues to try and become a truly international sport, it is banking the world. The NFL truly believes that American football can dominate globally. Who knows if that happens, but that’s what the league believes it can. Commissioner Roger Goodell recently said that there is one team, as the NFL’s goal is to host 16 international games in a season.

For the NFL, Bad Bunny is an investment in its international future.

To be clear, the NFL does not do this because of altruism. LOL. Furthermore, the NFL has not made this move. Because the league has a sincere belief that we all should live in a diverse world. LOL. The league’s main belief is diverse bank accounts. This is all about money and power.

It’s all true, and you know who cares about the league’s motivations, at least in this case? The NFL knows it will catch major hell from strong people against bad bunnies, and the league still made this decision. Suitable for the NFL.

So yes, you need to understand what the NFL did by choosing Bad Bunny as your Super Bowl halftime show. In other words, Really Understand.

The league uses its enormous power to drive a more diverse universe.

In other words, the NFL did the right thing at once.

Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V will face off

Which of these compact SUVs is a better option for drivers?

play

  • Toyota frequently produces bestselling (gas) SUVs in the United States.
  • Honda’s CR-V Small SUV offers similar performance specifications, standard features and safety ratings.
  • The RAV4 continues to sell the CR-V despite the SUV sharing some attractive properties.

The small SUV segment is one of the most competitive segments in the automotive industry, with popular models such as the Tesla Model Y, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue.

Some of the bestselling cars of 2025 are small SUVs. Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda will create small SUVs that rival each other in sales and specifications. For the Toyota RAV4 vs. Honda CR-V, are there any smaller SUV options better for the driver?

2025 Toyota RAV4 vs 2025 Honda CR-V: Price and Specifications

Both the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are small Japanese SUVs with a long history of reliability. Their pricing and specifications may be close to being a segment rival, but there is a clear difference between the two SUVs.

2025 Toyota RAV4 2025 Honda CR-V
Starting MSRP $29,800 $30,100
engine 2.5 liter four-cylinder 1.5 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder
Horsepower/Torque 203 horsepower/184 pound-feet of torque 190 horsepower/179 pound-feet of torque
MPG (miles per gallon) 27 Cities/35 Expressway 28 Cities/34 Expressway
Cargo space 37.5 cubic feet 39.3 cubic feet

The first distinct difference between the two small SUVs is the starting price. Honda’s small SUVs cost $300 more than Toyota’s small SUVs. The RAV4 has a slightly higher power output, but both models come with a four-cylinder engine.

Both small SUVs have decent fuel efficiency. The Honda CR-V has 2 feet of cargo space than the RAV4. There are quite a few similarities between Japanese small SUVs, but the external design is clear and completely different from each other. How can you stack up safety and reliability assessments?

2025 Toyota RAV4 vs 2025 Honda CR-V: Safety and reliability evaluation

Toyota’s 2025 SUV scored a mixed crashworthy feeling score from the Insurance Institute for highway safety. It scored a higher score than the 2025 Honda CR-V due to a medium overlap front crash. Meanwhile, the Honda small SUV scored better in the side crash category.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gz_p5pdjay

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2025 RAV4 a 5-star overall safety rating. There has been one recall so far. The 2025 CR-V also received a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and was recalled only once.

JD Power gave the 2025 CR-V 84% in terms of quality and reliability compared to the 80% score on the RAV4. In contrast, Toyota’s small SUVs received a much higher predictive reliability score from consumer reports than the CR-V. In terms of safety and reliability, these two compact SUV models are almost evenly matched.

Which small SUV is a better buy?

According to the 2025 bestselling car Kelly Blue Booklist published in July, more consumers have opted for the RAV4 over the CR-V. Side by side, the two SUVs look identical based on specs and ratings, but there are several reasons why consumers use CR-Vs to choose the RAV4 each year.

One of the main reasons why American drivers choose small Toyota SUVs is their reliability and resale value. A member survey of the Consumer Report found that Toyota is a slightly more reliable car brand than Honda.

Toyota has a reputation for producing the longest-lasting SUVs in the industry, including the Toyota Sequoia and the Toyota Highlander. The RAV4 is a little cheaper than the CR-V, along with the history of Toyota, which produces reliable vehicles, to choose the bestselling model over Honda’s rivals.

Trump repeatedly threatens to impose 100% tariffs on films made overseas

Trump previously proposed to impose tariffs on films made overseas in May, but industry experts questioned how fees would be collected.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has repeatedly poses his threat to impose 100% tariffs on films made outside the United States.

“Our filmmaking business has been stolen by other countries from the United States, as if they steal candies from babies,” Trump said in a September 29 social media post.

Trump imposed global tariffs in August, raising funds for imports from other countries, and forced foreign governments to the negotiation table to improve trade transactions. However, Trump’s power to impose tariffs has been challenged in court, and the Supreme Court will hear debate on November 5th whether they have been approved.

Film industry experts asked after Trump first threatened tariffs on films made overseas, and then initially threatened how fees such as production costs and ticket sales would be collected.

“If there’s too much uncertainty, this latest move raises more questions than answers,” PP’s visionary analyst Paolo Pescatore told Reuters. “For now, as things stand, costs are likely to increase, and this will inevitably be passed on to consumers.”

Paramount Skydance shares fell 2.1%, while Warner Bros Discovery fell 1.3% since its announcement.

Rep. Laura Friedman, D-Calif., a former film producer representing the Glendale area’s leading Hollywood studios, said the film tax credits will work better to keep the industry’s job more than tariffs that could raise costs.

“President Trump has reassured us that we are aware that we are losing our American products: the domestic film and television industry,” Friedman said in a statement. “However, his 100% tariff on foreign films will raise consumer costs. As representative of almost every major producer and former film producer in Hollywood, he knows what works without hurting consumers: national film tax credits.”

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-California, co-authored the film’s state tax credits when he was in the state legislature, but told reporters that tariffs would boost costs for buyers.

“It seems like another random idea he put out there without thinking about how it would actually be implemented,” Lieu said. “If implemented, the consumer costs of the film will increase.”

Comey’s indictment like DC, Trump says others are next

0

Trump suggested that another former FBI director, Christopher Ray, could investigate in addition to Comey.

play

WASHINGTON – Politicians and legal experts continued to debate the charges of former FBI director James Comey, raising questions about whether he would be convicted, and anticipating accusations against others who investigated President Donald Trump.

After President Trump urged Attorney General Pam Bondy to pursue the charges, Comey was charged on September 25th after allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing lawmakers. But even conservative legal experts questioned whether the charges would stick.

The indictment has led to a sharp political gap between Democrats and Republicans saying that justice will win, calling politically motivated cases. It is expected that more charges will be filed against Democrats and Republicans who investigated Trump.

“I have no faith in Donald Trump’s judicial system,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on September 28th.

Senate majority leader John Thune, R-South Dakota, called the allegations seriously, saying Comey would spend the day in court.

“The court will have to decide this,” Thune told “Meet the Press” on September 28th.

Do you stick accusations against Comey?

Several conservative columnists, Kim Strassell of the Wall Street Journal and Andrew McCarthy of the National Review, have raised questions to Fox News about whether Comey will be found guilty.

Strassell said in Fox’s “American Newsroom” on September 26th. “This is a potentially problematic prosecution.”

Comey was accused of lying on September 30, 2020 when asked by Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Former federal prosecutor McCarthy said former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe has allowed the information to be leaked and then communicated to Comey.

“I don’t think this case will go to trial,” McCarthy said. “This case does not concern Russia Gate and all the abuse. Can it prove the charges at the four corners of the charge?”

McCabe told CNN’s “Confederation Status” on September 28 that he had not been interviewed for the incident. He called for a “strange” submission fee a few years after the three-year investigation was over.

Trump, Vance says more charges can be made against Democrats

Trump told reporters September 26 that he hopes for more charges against those who investigated or criticized him.

“It’s not a list, but I think there are others,” Trump said when asked who will be the next person on his “retaliation” list.

“I mean, they’re corrupt,” Trump added. “These were corrupt and radical left Democrats, but Comey was essentially worse than Democrats. You’d say Democrats are better than Comey. But no, there’s someone else.”

The Justice Department is already investigating John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser. Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James. Senator Adam Schiff, D-California.

Vice President JD Vance denied that politics was pushing for the investigation, but said more charges were expected.

“Well, there will be more charges coming over the next three and a half years of the Trump administration. We’re always trying to push the law forward to things like this and facts of the case, not politically motivated,” Vance told Fox News Sunday on September 28th.

Trump says former FBI director Ray could be investigated

Trump told NBC News on September 28 that the appointment of Comey’s successor, former FBI director Christopher Ray, in his first term, was also under investigation into “inappropriate” behaviour.

“I imagine. I do. I do. I think they do,” Trump said.

Trump said Ray “had a terrible job, but we just learned about it.” Trump’s comments “probably serve as an agitator and a rebelist” after a social media post on September 27th claimed that the FBI secretly placed many agents in the crowd during the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Justice Department inspector Michael Horowitz previously investigated and determined that there was “no evidence” that FBI undercover agents were at the Capitol. The report found three confidential sources were among the crowd.

“Christopher Ray, then director of the FBI, explains some things to do,” Trump said on social media. “It’s two in a row, Comey and Ray, who caught lying in our great country.”

Trump charged nearly 1,600 people in the January 6 riots, including dozens convicted of rebellion and assault police in the January 6 riots.

Ray has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest complaints. However, Ray denied that FBI agents or sources coordinated the violence at a November 2023 House hearing.

“No, there was no violence organized by FBI sources or agents,” Ray said.

Updated Michigan church attacks. Search for victims and motivations

Officials say Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, plunged a truck into the Latter-day Saint Church of Jesus Christ in Grand Blanc, carrying two American flags and firing fire at hundreds of worshipers.

play

  • Authorities were searching for additional casualties at the burnt ruins of a Michigan church after the attack that killed four people and wounded others.
  • Thomas Jacob Sanford, along with gasoline, set fire to a church building and fired it on worshippers with an attack rifle, police said.
  • Sanford was killed by police in a shootout in a church parking lot.

Police were looking for more casualties in the burnt ruins of a Michigan church. Meanwhile, former Marin launched a fatal attack on a place of worship, killing at least four people and stitching together what authorities called “targeted acts of violence.”

Officials say 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford has plunged his pickup truck with two American flags at the Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ in Grand Blanc, a suburb of Flint. The attackers then unloaded the truck, fired at hundreds of worshippers, and used gasoline to burn the building, authorities said. Sanford was killed in a shootout with police.

The two were fatally shot dead in the attack, and the other two bodies were found hours later in withered debris from a partially destroyed building. Of those injured in the shooting, one is in a critical state and seven are listed as stable, authorities said.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Lenay said the first responders are still working to find more casualties in the chapel, adding that some people remain “immeasurable.”

“We’re tirelessly trying to find additional bodies,” he said. “The whole church has not been cleared as it is a complete loss from the fire.”

The shooting is the latest to break out at places of worship this year, and comes after some high-profile “targeted” attacks. Last month, gunmen fired fire at a Catholic church in Minnesota, where hundreds of young students attended Mass, killing two children and injuring at least 17 people. In the wake of the attack, President Donald Trump called for an end to what he described as “our country’s epidemic of violence.”

The incident was one of dozens of mass shootings in Michigan this year, and was the most deadly of six mass shootings reported in the US over the weekend.

As of September 28th, 324 mass shootings have been carried out in the United States this year. This is according to The Gun Biolence Archive, a nonprofit research group that defines mass shootings as cases in which four or more people have been injured or killed in a shooting without including suspects.

Other violent incidents that erupted over the weekend included mass shootings at a bar along a river in North Carolina, where gunmen fatally shot three people and injured eight others.

Nearly 750 registered nurses at Henry Ford Genesees Hospital in Grand Blanc were attacked on Sunday when violence broke out at the Church of Jesus Christ in Latter-day Saints. Some say they offered to help the hospital after the deadly church shooting, but were turned away.

In a statement to the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today network, the hospital said it cannot allow nurses to assist with “reasons for security and patient privacy.” The statement added that hospitals “can care for patients of church tragedy without any additional help.”

– Kristen Jordan Shams, Detroit Free Press

Mourners in Central Michigan gathered at the football field shortly after the shooting to pray for Grand Blanc attacks, their families and victims affected by other violent incidents around the country.

The vigil was planned several weeks ago by Genesee County Republicans in response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The event, held at the soccer field of the Holy Savior Church in Burton, focused primarily on the deadly church rampage that broke out within ten miles.

Rev. Timothy Hicks of the Christian Love Face Center in Flint attended the all night. He said he heard the news of the shooting while leading his service in his own church and paused to lead his congregation to pray for the victims.

“You can imagine how catastrophic it is when you think that all your sudden lives are taken away by the sound of gunshots,” Hicks said.

– Tess Ware, Detroit Free Press

Several public school districts cancelled classes and after-school activities on Monday, September 29th, following a fatal attack on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc.

On September 28, the Grand Blanc Community School System announced a temporary closure affecting 13 campuses operated by the district. Several other school districts in Genesee County have also decided to cancel classes for the day, including Atherton Community School and Goodrich Area School.

“We know that this tragedy weighs heavily on students, staff and families. The visible policing of the entire community has created understandable distractions and anxiety,” said a statement from the Goodrich area school. “We believe that taking this day will bring together a relaxing space and family.”

Central Michigan residents expressed distrust after the fatal attack.

“I’m very shaken,” Stephanie Giddings, whose daughter was recently baptized in the chapel, told the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today Network. “They’re family.”

Clio resident Philip Cotter was a member of Grand Blanc Church, but did not attend the morning service on the day of filming. “I know everyone there,” he said.

Tony Deck, 56, said he was sitting on the porch on the Sunday morning, September 28th, when law enforcement from various agencies flew from his home. He knew something was grossly wrong, so he jumped into his car and followed the church where he saw the suspect’s truck on fire.

“It’s a very sad day,” Deck said. “Grand Blanc is a good, quiet town and definitely not worth it.”

According to his mother’s social media posts and archived news reports, Sanford, Michigan, about eight miles north of Grand Blanc, appears to have been a US Marine veteran about eight miles north of Grand Blanc.

According to a 2007 news article in Clarkston News, after graduating from Goodrich High School in 2003, Sanford worked in Japan and Iraq.

According to photos posted on the Facebook pages of his loved ones, including his girlfriend and mother, he looked like an avid hunter and fisherman. The photo shows him with deer he harvested and camouflage hunting gear, showing the fish he caught while ice fishing.

Sanford’s son Brantley was born about 10 years ago in a rare condition known as hyperinphosphorus. There, high levels of insulin increased the risk of dangerous attacks.

Sanford is registered to vote in Burton, Michigan, but available records are not displayed when he last voted. In Michigan, voters do not register by party. Sanford’s political views are unknown, but Sanford wears a Camouflage Trump 2020 campaign shirt on a 2019 photo on a Facebook page dedicated to his son’s medical journey.

President Donald Trump’s attendance at the Ryder Cup Golf Tournament was not enough to drive US teams to victory, and European opponents enjoyed rubbing it, evoking a whimsical response from the president.

European teams led by star golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose have posted videos online wielding the Ryder Cup trophies and provoking Trump.

In the video, the golfer said, “Are you watching? Are you watching? Are you watching Don… Are you watching Don??”

Ryder Cup, Government Shutdown, Michigan Church Shooting, Ice, Portland, WNBA, Hurricane: Daily Briefing

0

good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Nicole Forelt. Take a sip, oh, it’s National Coffee Day.

We returned on Monday news:

Europe wins an unruly Ryder Cup

Team USA lost to Europe in the Ryder Cup on Sunday, making the Europeans the first team since 2012 to win the tournament in foreign soil.

The drama was a course par: The atmosphere at this year’s Ryder Cup was rough and sometimes combative, and at one point, urged team’s European Rory McIlroy to curse the fans (and hit the perfect shot).

  • The MC was also expelled. The PGA announced that comedian and actress Heather McMahan had resigned before the final day after instructing the crowd to participate in a letting chant to McIlroy.
  • Team USA gave it to the best. However, the American deficit in the first two days was too much to overcome, and Europe managed to win its sixth Ryder Cup in its last eight tournaments. Is Keegan Bradley responsible?
  • Flag, founding father’s costume and president: Trump and his granddaughter Kai were among the audience at a golf course in Bethpage State Park in New York.

Will the government be closed this week?

Too much to tell right away. President Donald Trump will meet with Congressional leaders from both White House parties on Monday within 48 hours of the deadline to avoid government shutdown. Without a breakthrough, “essential” government services such as military and law enforcement will continue to operate under closures, while “non-essential” services, including national parks, will be forced to close or reduce staffing. Senate Democrats are using rare moments of political leverage to demand that the funding bill reverse Medicaid and lose Obamacare subsidies.

  • These people found healthcare at the heart of the shutdown showdown.

CAMIA privacy attacks reveal what AI models remember

0

Researchers have developed a new attack that uncovers privacy vulnerabilities by determining whether data was used to train AI models.

The method, named Camia (Context-Aware Membership Inference Attack), was developed by researchers at Brave and Singapore National University, and is much more effective than previous attempts to investigate the “memory” of AI models.

There is growing concern about “data storage” in AI. In AI, models are carelessly stored and can leak sensitive information from the training set. In healthcare, models trained with clinical notes may incorrectly uncover patient information. In the case of businesses, if internal email is used for training, attackers can trick LLM into replicating communications from private companies.

Such privacy concerns have been amplified by recent announcements, such as LinkedIn’s plan to improve the generated AI model using user data, raising questions about whether private content could emerge in generated text.

To test this leak, security experts use membership inference attacks, or MIA. Simply put, MIA asks the model an important question: “Did you see this example while training?” If the attacker has a reliable understanding of the answer, it proves that the model is leaking information about the training data, poses a direct privacy risk.

The core idea is that when you process trained data compared to new, invisible data, the model often behaves differently. MIA is designed to systematically exploit these behavioral gaps.

Until now, most MIAs have had little effect on modern generation AI. This is because it was originally designed for simpler classification models that gave a single output per input. However, LLM generates a text token byte token, each new word being influenced by the words that came before it. This sequential process simply looks at the overall confidence of the text block and misses the dynamics of the moment when the leak actually occurs.

The key insight behind the new CAMIA privacy attack is that AI models’ memory is context dependent. AI models rely most heavily on memory when they are unsure of what to say next.

For example, given the prefix “Harry Potter is… written by Harry’s world…”, in the example below from Brave, the model can infer that the following token is “Potter” through generalization:

In such cases, confident predictions do not show memory. However, if the prefix is simply “Harry”, it becomes much more difficult to predict “Potter” without remembering a particular training sequence. Decreasing, high confidence predictions in this ambiguous scenario are much stronger indicators of memory.

Camia is the first privacy attack specifically tailored to exploit this generative nature of modern AI models. You can track how uncertainty in your model evolves during text generation and measure how quickly AI moves from “guess” to “confident recalls.” By operating at the token level, it can be tailored to situations where simple repetition causes low uncertainty and identify subtle patterns of true memory that other methods have missed.

Researchers tested Camia with Mimir benchmarks for several Pythia and GPT-Neo models. When attacking the 2.8B-parameter Pythia model with the ARXIV dataset, Camia nearly doubled the detection accuracy of the previous method. The true positive rate was increased from 20.11% to 32.00% while maintaining a very low false positive rate of just 1%.

The attack framework is also computationally efficient. With a single A100 GPU, CAMIA can process 1,000 samples in about 38 minutes, making it a practical tool for auditing models.

This work reminds the AI industry of privacy risks in training constant models on vast, unfiltered datasets. Researchers hope that their work will spur the development of techniques that will provide more privacy and contribute to the ongoing efforts to balance AI usefulness with basic user privacy.

Bad Bunny is heading for the Super Bowl.

A week after he concluded his 31-day Puerto Rican residency, the Regateon superstar was revealed as the headliner of the 2026 Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. The news was announced on September 28th during a Sunday night soccer game between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

A few hours before the announcement was officially shared, there were rumors of bad bunny as headliners were circulating online. Finally, Bad Bunny- shared a video of himself sitting at the beach goal post as “Callaíta” performed in a collaboration post with the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation.

“Super Bowl LX. Bay Area. February 2026” captioned the post.

Nodding to Puerto Rican heritage, Bad Bunny wore a Pava. “What I feel is beyond myself,” Bud Bunny said in a statement shared by the NFL. “This is for my people, my culture and our history.”

“Ve y dile a tu aubela, Que seremos el halftime show del super bowl,” the musician added.

Bad Bunny may have concluded his sold-out residency in Coriseo, Puerto Rico, but he doesn’t necessarily have a holiday before appearing on Super Bowl stage in February. The “Tití Me Preguntó” artist will begin his 24-day Debítirarmás Fotos World Tour held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on November 21st.

This tour includes stops in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Spain and the UK.

The 2026 Super Bowl, scheduled for February 8th, landed the day after Bad Bunny rapped three nights in Santiago, Chile, May 5-7. The football game will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Bad Bunny technically made his Super Bowl debut in 2020 when he performed at the joint headlining halftime show between Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.

Jay Z says what Bunny did for Puerto Rico is really exciting

On September 28, rapper Jay Z said in a statement that he was “honored” to have a bad bunny in “the world’s biggest stage.”

“It’s really exciting to see Benito continue doing it for Puerto Rico,” he said.

Super Bowl halftime news comes in bad bunny ice comments

In an interview with ID magazine published earlier this month, the “Catched Stealing” star said his decision to omit the US from his upcoming world tour was free of concern over the political situation in the US.

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, but none of them left the hatred,” he told the outlet. He cited the large deportation of Latinos in the Trump administration as a motive for his decision to quit the show in the US.

“The ice cream could be outside (my concert), which is something we were talking about and we were very concerned about,” he said.

Taylor Swift was rumoured to be a Super Bowl halftime show performer

Before the big Sunday night’s release, it was rumoured that Taylor Swift might strengthen her NFL relationship with the 2026 Super Bowl headlines. But in response to speculation, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told the “Today” show that he “can’t say anything about it,” but that’s “probably.”

The Super Bowl Halftime Show was recently spotted by Kendrick Lamar in February. The rapper provided an inspiring performance featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam and tennis legend Serena Williams. Lamar’s set included his extremely popular song “Not Like Us,” a diss track directed at Drake.

Lamar ignored the convention, surprised the philosophical wordplay and jabed the ears of people who scolded the idea of solo headlines,” said USA Today music writer Melissa Ruggieri. SZA joined the rapper during the performance.

The previous year, Usher saw the Super Bowl halftime show in 2024. He brought out Alicia Keys, girlfriend, Will, Lil John, Jermaine Dupuri and Rudacris as special guests. In 2023, Rihanna took to the stage and revealed that she was pregnant with her second child. And then in 2022, the Halftime Show featured performances by Eminem, Mary J. Briguet, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dore and Lamar.

Other performers of late halftime shows include Weekend, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake.

Dick Van Dyke is approaching 100 years old, and “I couldn’t be happy”

On September 21, three months after dropping out of the Bandy Camp event due to illness, Van Dyke celebrated his wife, Arlene Van Dyke’s birthday in Malibu with a “fake” Bandy Camp birthday bash.

He and the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to Arlene, sharing a sweet smooch at the end of the serenade, and the couple shared a sweet smooch at the end of the serenade.

“We’ve been married for 13 years. In two and a half months, I’ll be 100. I hope!” he told the crowd, according to a video shared by photographer Trevor Perez. “And I’ve never seen a more beautiful woman in my life than this.”

After describing their fateful first meeting at the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Van Dyke said, “Now we’ve been married for 13 years and I couldn’t be happy.”

Another video from the event shows Van Dyke holding a cane in his left hand, shaking his hips and twisting his leg.

Van Dyke often takes the opportunity to show his spryness by dancing in public places, such as the 2024 Coldplay’s “All My Love” music video. With a seven-minute director’s cut, he meditated on the sense of long career and love in Hollywood.

“I think I’m one of the lucky people I had to do anyway for the way I would have lived,” he said. “I have to do what I’m doing. I play, act stupid.”

Authorities are investigating the deaths at Charlotte Douglas International Airport after the body was found on the stack inside the landing gear on an American Airlines flight on September 28th.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Station was found in one of the compartments of the main landing equipment while maintenance crews worked on aircraft arriving from Europe. The person was declared dead at the scene by officers from the police station’s airport department.

CMPD murder unit detectives and crime scene searches responded to the scene and investigated and collected physical evidence along with support from operational commands and medics.

Police said an investigation was underway and the individual’s identity had not been announced as of September 28th. In a statement to USA Today, American Airlines said it is working with law enforcement based on the investigation.

“CLT Airport knows the tragic discoveries involving a deceased individual discovered on the landing gear of an American Airlines aircraft this morning,” an airport spokesman told USA Today in an email. “We are deeply saddened by the news and will assist in the investigation of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Station if necessary.”

Operations at the airport continue as normal, the airport added.

Sneaking into an airplane’s landing gear can be extremely dangerous, health and aviation experts previously told USA Today. These unaccompanied parts of the plane lack oxygen and can reach temperatures well below freezing.

Most seats will die, and the Federal Aviation Administration estimates that more than 76% of deaths will end.

In January, the bodies of two Dominican teenagers were found inside the landing gear of a JetBlue passenger plane at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport in Florida. The maintenance crew discovered them during regular post-flight inspections of the plane after it arrived from New York. It remains unknown how and when they boarded the plane.
