Bill Belichick can’t be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame unless he buys a ticket.

The legendary New England Patriots head coach did not receive the votes needed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2026, ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr. reported on January 27th. In Belichick’s first year of eligibility, he received only 40 of the required 50 votes from the committee.

Belichick is considered the greatest coach in NFL history, and he has a long list of accomplishments to back it up. He has won eight Super Bowls and has 333 career wins, ranking him second only to Hall of Famer Don Shula.

The absence of Belichick, one of the faces of the Patriots dynasty, certainly caught everyone off guard. The reactions have been rapid and furious, and none of them are optimistic.

Let’s take a look at how the NFL world and social media are taking the news.
