Watch Ilona Maher’s new Barbie doll make history
Rugby star Ilona Maher has teamed up with Mattel to bring to life a new Barbie doll featuring a muscular physique similar to Maher’s.
Angel Reese will live up to her “Bayou Barbie” nickname thanks to her own Mattel doll.
Barbie will release a doll resembling the WNBA star, the company announced on July 24.
Barbie includes a pink uniform, basketball, and sneakers based on Reese’s signature Reebok shoes. The Mattel-owned brand also announced that it has teamed up with Reebok to develop a new pink Barbie-inspired Angel Wreath 1 basketball shoe.
The Atlanta Dream forward said in a statement that having his own Barbie doll was “a true dream come true for me.”
“I hope this doll reminds girls to be unapologetically themselves, embrace every part of themselves, and be confident in following their dreams,” Reese said.
The Reese-inspired doll seems destined for her longtime nickname, “Bayou Barbie.” The nickname dates back to Reese’s days at Louisiana State University and reflects both the school’s proximity to wetlands and Reese’s bold fashion sense.
Here’s what you need to know about Barbie doll, including how to buy it.

Barbie and Angel Reese dolls debut at WNBA All-Star Weekend
Barbie will also be working with Reebok to debut the doll and matching sneakers at WNBA All-Star Weekend, the company said.
They will be participating in a pop-up called TOGETTHXR House, hosted by TOGETTHXR, a women’s sports media company of which Reese is a co-owner.
The site, which will open July 24th and 25th, will feature an “Angel Wreath Dream Closet” that includes a Barbie doll, sneakers and a life-sized Barbie box.
There will also be limited edition apparel created by Reese in collaboration with Barbie, including custom jerseys, T-shirts and hats inspired by Angel Reese Barbie’s look.
If fans can’t come to the Dream Closet in person, Barbie said they can purchase apparel on Reese’s website, TheAngelReese.com.
