The latest Economist/YouGov poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating hovering near an all-time low, with just 37% of Americans saying they approve of his job performance, and continues to struggle in public opinion polls.

The survey was conducted between July 10th and 13th among 1,616 respondents, with 59% disapproving of Trump (plus/minus 3.3 points). In the same poll, 54% of respondents said America’s standing in the world has worsened since President Trump began his second term.

Beyond his approval rating as president, a majority of respondents said they disapproved of President Trump’s handling of the Iran war.

In the latest poll, 59% said they strongly or somewhat disapprove of the president’s actions. This figure has remained stable since the start of the war, reaching 64% at the end of May.

Trump’s dismal approval ratings could help Democrats regain control of Congress in November’s midterm elections, with polls Tuesday showing Democrats leading Republicans by 4 points.

Iran proves difficult for President Trump

The Economist/YouGov poll was released less than a day after the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll showed a majority of Americans believe a war between the United States and Iran will be long.

A poll released on Monday, July 13, showed that 79% of respondents believe that American military action in Iran will “continue for a long time.”

Similar to the latest Economist/YouGov poll, the Reuters/Ipsos poll also showed that the Iran war is unpopular with Americans, with 58% saying they would not support a U.S. military strike against Iran.

The new numbers from both surveys come as renewed fighting between the US and Iran escalates tensions in the region and President Trump declared an interim ceasefire agreement between the two countries “over.”
