Watch the Senate’s touching tribute to Sen. Lindsey Graham
Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Chuck Grassley praised Lindsey Graham, praising his accomplishments and contributions to South Carolina.
Lindsey Graham’s funeral will be held over two days in Washington, D.C. and South Carolina, the senator’s office announced.
The longtime senator from South Carolina died July 11 of an aortic dissection. Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said at a July 15 press conference that funeral arrangements are complicated by the number of world leaders who wish to attend the funeral.
“Lindsay Graham and foreign policy are inextricably linked,” Scott said.
Darlene Graham was appointed to fill out her late brother’s term, which ends in January, and is running for the Republican nomination for a full term. In a statement, she thanked President Donald Trump and those involved in the funeral.
In a statement announcing her brother’s funeral plans, Darlene said, “We are grateful to everyone who came together to honor and remember Lindsay.”

When is Lindsey Graham’s funeral?
Graham’s funerals will be held in Washington, D.C., and South Carolina on July 28th and July 29th, respectively.
What kind of service is held for Lindsey Graham?
Graham’s casket will be escorted by a military team to the Capitol Rotunda for a short program on July 28 in recognition of his military service. The ceremony is private, but can be viewed via livestream. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said in a statement obtained by USA TODAY Network’s Greenville News. Additional details regarding Rotunda services will be announced prior to the ceremony.
“As we bid our final farewells, it seems only fitting that his friends and colleagues repay him with this special honor at Parliament House,” Thun said.
Trump will then speak at an invitation-only service at the Washington National Cathedral starting at 2 p.m. ET. It will be live-streamed on the cathedral’s website.
A funeral procession will take place July 29 from the south side of the South Carolina State Capitol in Columbia to First Baptist Church in Columbia. The flight will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET, with the F-16’s high-flying flight scheduled for 11 a.m. ET.
Services will be held in the church and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The family will then hold a private funeral in Pickens County, South Carolina.
