The Treasury Department is changing the banks that handle recipients’ debit cards, with Bank 3 replacing Comerica Bank instead of Bank 5.
The first round of Social Security payments for July is scheduled to be distributed this week.
Social Security benefits, which are paid primarily to elderly or retired beneficiaries, are typically scheduled to be paid on Wednesdays.
Social Security could face a shortage as early as 2032. If Congress does nothing, research suggests retirees will see their monthly benefits cut by 28%. This has led several groups to propose their own ways to modify the program.
That includes a Washington, D.C., think tank that recently caused controversy with a report proposing capping annual Social Security benefits at $100,000 to shore up retirement trust funds.

Who will receive Social Security payments this week?
Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of their birth month are supposed to receive their monthly Social Security benefits on Wednesday, July 8, according to the SSA payment calendar.
When will my Social Security payments be sent?
Social Security benefits, which are paid primarily to elderly or retired beneficiaries, are typically paid on Wednesdays.
According to the SSA calendar, if the recipient’s birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month, payments will generally be made on the second Wednesday of the payment month. Those born from the 11th to the 20th will receive the allowance on the 3rd Wednesday, and those born after the 20th will receive it on the 4th Wednesday.
People who received Social Security benefits before May 1997 can receive their payments on the third day of the month, excluding weekends and holidays.
Individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect Social Security payments on the 3rd of the month and SSI payments on the 1st of the month.

Recipients of Supplemental Securities Income (SSI) checks typically have their payments issued on the first business day of the month, but in July it was Wednesday, July 1st.

- Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (Check September 2026).
- Thursday, October 1, 2026 (Check October 2026).
- Friday, October 30, 2026 (check November 2026).
- Tuesday, December 1, 2026 (Check December 2026).
- Friday, December 31, 2026 (check January 2027).
