More than 13,000 AC units have been recalled due to the risk of burns and fires amid a sweltering heatwave across the country.

On June 25, Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing announced a recall of 13,514 Amana air conditioning units and heating pumps, according to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. This is because the heating element in the device remains energized even when the power is turned off, posing a risk of fire or burns. As of June 25, there have been no reports of injuries related to the recalled products, but Daikin was aware of one report of the unit’s plastic melting.

The recall was announced just before a long and dangerous heat wave began to intensify across much of the Middle East. About two-thirds of the U.S. population is expected to experience extreme heat this Independence Day weekend, according to Weather.com.

Here’s what you need to know about the Daikin air conditioner unit recall.

What AC units are being recalled?

This recall affects some Amana window room air conditioners and through-the-wall air conditioning units or heat pumps.

According to the recall report, the products are white with the brand name printed on the control cover of most units and the model number written on a white sticker on the front edge of the unit’s base plate. This unit is most commonly used in apartment buildings, commercial spaces, and hotels.

According to the recall report, the details of the recalled AC units are as follows:

Where were the recalled AC units sold?

According to the recall report, the air conditioner units were sold from April 2025 to December 2025 for between $850 and $1,500 through direct sales and heating and cooling retailers nationwide. Of the 13,514 vehicles recalled, 53 were sold in Canada.

What to do if your AC unit is recalled

Immediately stop using the recalled AC unit and contact Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing at 855-812-8989, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, or visit amana-ptac.com/amana-ttw-wrac-recall.

Consumers will be asked to provide a photo of the disconnected unit’s power cord and a photo of the unit’s serial number.
