Jill Biden’s memoir tells the story of the night that ended Biden’s campaign
Jill Biden reveals her horror and shock during the 2024 debate in her new memoir, “View from the East Wing.”
Jill Biden has given an update on her husband’s health, one year after former President Joe Biden was diagnosed with cancer.
In an interview on NBC’s “Today” on June 1 to promote her new memoir, the former first lady said Biden is “doing fine” despite his ongoing battle with prostate cancer.
“You know how tough that is,” she told host Craig Melvin, for her brother Lawrence Meadows, who died of colon cancer in 2020.
The former president was diagnosed with “advanced” prostate cancer that had spread to his bones in May 2025, his spokesperson said.
The 83-year-old underwent radiation therapy in October 2025 and also underwent hormone therapy, a spokesperson said at the time. In September 2025, Biden’s press secretary also announced that the former president had undergone surgery to treat skin cancer.
Jill Biden says Joe Biden will ‘live with cancer’ for ‘the rest of his life’
Jill Biden said the spread of the cancer complicates her husband’s diagnosis.
“If he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, I think that would be different because it is curable,” she said. “But the fact that it metastasized to his bones makes it a completely different story.”
She added: “So I think Joe will be living with cancer for the rest of his life.”
Joe Biden shared his cancer diagnosis a year ago
Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer after “experiencing urinary symptoms,” according to a May 2025 statement. Doctors discovered a “small nodule” on his prostate during an examination.
According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer is usually detected early and grows slowly, so many people recover. If the infection spreads, as it did with Biden, treatment will become even more difficult.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, affecting one in eight men in the United States.
