Melania Trump keeps busy schedule during Christmas at the White House

First lady Melania Trump returned to public life over the holidays after keeping quiet for much of President Donald Trump’s first year in office, tired of the noisy construction of the White House.

The first lady appeared with her husband at the White House Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Dec. 4, one of several public outings over the past three weeks. She met with military families and U.S. soldiers at Camp Lejeune on Nov. 19 and welcomed the White House Christmas tree on Nov. 24.

The next day, President Trump helped pardon a pair of turkeys, Gobble and Waddle, in a quirky annual tradition. The first lady, who is now in full holiday spirit, has been attending ceremonies regularly in recent weeks.

Late last month, President Trump announced the launch of his production company, Muse Films, on social media with a short video revealing the official logo.

Muse’s first project is a new film titled Melania, which will first be released in theaters across the United States on January 30th, and then on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service. The documentary follows Trump during the 20 days following his inauguration on January 20, before his family returned to the White House.

The White House also announced President Trump’s Christmas theme, “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” on Monday, Dec. 1. On the same day, President Trump worked with Curb Your Enthusiasm alumnus Cheryl Hines and first lady Usha Vance, wife of Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to create care packages for deployed military personnel.

Trump stood at the head of the national Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 4, wearing a white wool coat over a buttoned blue dress and smiling broadly alongside the president.

And earlier this week, the president gave the American people a rare indication of his preference.

At a Dec. 2 Cabinet meeting, President Trump discussed demolishing the East Wing of the White House to make way for a 90,000-square-foot banquet hall. “I can’t say my wife is thrilled,” he says.

The president said of Melania Trump, “She can hear the piledriver behind her day and night.” “They piledriver day and night until 12 o’clock in the morning. ‘Darling, can you please stop the piledriver?’ Sorry, darling. That’s progress.”

Amid the recent uproar over her husband’s presidential bid, President Trump is probably planning more public appearances in time for the holiday season.
