USA TODAY reporter documents flight cancellations during shutdown
TC Palm reporter Lawrence Reisman had to pay an additional $250 for each ticket after his flight to Florida was canceled due to the government shutdown.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she took a train from Washington to her home state of Georgia instead of flying because of “delayed and canceled flights,” as the government shutdown disrupted hundreds of flights and disrupted travel plans.
“Due to flight delays and cancellations, I took Amtrak from Washington DC to Georgia,” Green posted on X, along with a video of a “morning view of the mountains of North Georgia.”
Airlines have announced hundreds of government-ordered flight cancellations over the past two days due to the government shutdown, and airport workers and air traffic controllers have been sent home without pay. Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said on November 7 that if the situation continues, the percentage of canceled flights could rise to 20% in the coming weeks.
