Nearly two million shelled eggs were spontaneously recalled after being linked to a widespread salmonella outbreak, health officials said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the outbreak of salmonella has been linked to 79 cases, including 21 hospitalizations across the US.

The recall was issued on June 6 after the August 6 egg eggs and brown certified eggs were distributed by the egg company in August and sold at various brand names and restaurants, the Food and Drug Administration said.

“The FDA will work with the company to determine whether eggs are being distributed elsewhere and update their advisory as information becomes available,” the FDA says on its website.
