If 2019 is the year of the fast food chicken sandwich battle, then 2025 seems to be the year of the fast food chicken rap battle.
McDonald’s US President Joe Arlinger confirmed that his fan-favorite snack wrap will make a comeback in 2025 on “Good Morning America” in December 2024.
Finally, McDonald confirmed to USA Today on June 3 that the snack wrap will officially return on permanently from Thursday, July 10th.
The company said the snack wrap has one of McDonald’s new MacCrispy strips (juicy chicken strips made with all white meat) topped with crisp fine lettuce and fine cheese, all wrapped in soft flour tortillas.
Meanwhile, Popeyes announced on June 2 that it was introducing chicken wraps to its menu in a limited amount of time, and according to a news release, it is being offered to customers who are “wrapped and ready to be wrapped wherever they go.”
The wrap features Popeye’s hand-wrapped chicken bids with crispy lettuce, fine cheese and crispy pickles, all in a warm tortilla inspired by the flavor of Popeye es biscuits. The new item costs $3.99 and is available with a choice of classic, spicy or honey mustard spreads.
Chicken wrap sends social media to the hottest
Popeyez appeared to incite the latest fast food chicken battle on May 30 when filming the jabs at the McDonald’s X-Post starting April 15th and suggesting a snack wrap return date.
McDonald’s post on April 15th: “Snack Wrap 0x.14.2025” suggests that menu items will return on the 14th day of the unidentified month of 2025.
“Chicken wrap 0x.02.2025,” Popeyes said on May 30th.
On June 3, McDonald’s published “Snack Wrap 07.10.2025” on X, followed by a long post, looking backstage how he made his decision to get his snack wrap back.
Popeyes responded to the post on the same day as another McDonald’s jab.
Popeyes also took her to another social media platform, Instagram, to get her fun on McDonald’s. Popeyes was the first to comment on the release of the McDonald’s post, which said in a laughing emoji, “I’m happy to be able to make something happy.”
In addition to the brands they do to each other on social media, customers have expressed excitement about both menu items.
Other chains with chicken wrap
Though not part of the current Chicken Wrap War, fast food chains such as Wendy, Chickfil A and the Queen of Dairy all offer offerings on their menu. Places like Burger King and Taco Bell tried out chicken wraps at one point, but eventually stopped off the menu.
