The longtime late night host was just one of many celebrities in attendance at the star-studded grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18th.
For the historic occasion, Colbert wore a light tan suit with a blue and gray striped tie. The suit appears to be a nod to former President Barack Obama’s infamous and controversial tan suit worn during a 2014 press conference discussing the US military’s response to the Islamic State group in Syria. At the time, the case caused a media uproar, with people thinking the tanned look was “too casual” or “inappropriate” for presidential duties.
President Obama’s tan suit moment remains an example of unfair criticism for his supporters, but nearly a decade later, the suit itself has become an iconic fashion item.
Unfortunately for visitors who expected to see the famous suit at the Presidential Center, museum organizers announced earlier this month that the tan suit was given away by President Obama and is no longer on display at the museum.
Colbert, whose CBS show was recently canceled, appeared to be in good spirits as he greeted celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Mark Hamill, LL Cool J and David Letterman, who also caught attention in a cool tan blazer.しかしコルベールとレターマンだけではなかった。 Later in the ceremony, Obama Foundation Board Chairman Marty Nesbitt sported a tan suit while addressing the crowd.
“This was inspired by a very good friend of mine who made the tan suit famous,” Nesbitt said. “And I don’t know about anyone else, but I thought the clothes he was wearing looked really good on him, so I decided to try them on myself.”
In addition to Hollywood guests, politicians also came out to support the opening of the new center, including former President Joe Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton.
As the museum’s opening ceremony begins, President Obama will take to the stage with former first lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia, while enjoying celebratory performances by music sensations including Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, U2’s Bono, The Edge and more.
