Video of high-speed crash involving Vince McMahon released
Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon was charged with reckless driving in connection with the incident. The case has since been dismissed, his lawyer said.
Newly released police body camera footage shows the aftermath of a July 2025 car crash in which former WWE CEO Vince McMahon was charged with reckless driving.
In a video obtained by USA TODAY through a public records request, a police officer asks McMahon, “Why were you driving over 100 mph?” Then he answered, “It’s my granddaughter’s birthday.”
Asked if he saw the police car with its emergency lights on, McMahon said: “I wasn’t trying to pass him.”
“I haven’t driven this car in a long time,” McMahon said after turning down the ambulance. The officer said, “That’s fast, I’ll tell you,” to which McMahon responded, “Oh, (expletive) too fast.”
According to a police report obtained by USA TODAY, on July 24, 2025, McMahon was driving on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, Conn., when he was involved in a three-vehicle crash that severely damaged his vehicle.
McMahon was driving north on Route 15 when he collided with the rear of another vehicle, which caused him to crash into a wooden beam guardrail in the median. A third vehicle traveling southbound was struck by “debris extending over the median” from McMahon’s vehicle, the report said.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and there were no passengers in the affected vehicle. The crash caused the airbags in all vehicles to deploy.
Vince McMahon’s reckless driving lawsuit dismissed, lawyer says
McMahon was charged with misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and following too closely, causing an accident. At the time, he was released on $500 bail.
In October 2025, a Connecticut Superior Court judge ruled that McMahon could resolve the charges by participating in a pretrial program, the Associated Press reported.
McMahon’s attorney, Mark Sherman, confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that the court granted the motion to suspend and dismiss the case.
“Mr. Vince’s primary concern in this case was for the other drivers, and we are grateful that the court deemed this an accident rather than an indictable crime,” the statement said.
Vince McMahon’s car crash happened on the same day as Hulk Hogan’s death
The former WWE boss took over the reins of professional wrestling from his father, Vince McMahon Sr., in 1982 and helped grow professional wrestling into a global phenomenon, transforming the world’s stars into larger-than-life characters and celebrities.
McMahon was at the helm of the company for nearly 40 years before stepping down as CEO in 2022 following reports that he paid more than $12 million over 16 years to four women to settle allegations of sexual misconduct.
In 2024, he resigned as executive chairman and director of WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, one day after a former employee filed a lawsuit alleging sex trafficking and assault. As of February 26, the lawsuit is still pending.
Coincidentally, McMahon’s car accident occurred on the same day that WWE icon Hulk Hogan passed away at the age of 71. In a statement, McMahon called Hogan “the greatest WWE Superstar of all time.”
“His grit and unquenchable thirst for success are unparalleled, which made him the perfect performer,” McMahon added.
